The game is beautiful and it is a very fun casual COH like RTS with a very unique setting. The issue is the game is NOT worth the price tag they have put and the game at launch is bare bones. There is barely any content to keep you playing more than just the campaign that takes about 20hours to finish

Problem is the game is "Full Released" with missing features, Devs waited 30hrs to respond with Roadmap, with Subject to change.

50$ for a EA game thats not going to be finished for least 2 months just to get the advertised features done. I rated a 3, for 1/3 game. Cause nothing is ever 10 thats just silly

Similar/identical infantry units for each faction, lacking unit/weapon upgrades, lack of base building elements(only 2 base structures, same on every faction as well), claims to be a slow pace RTS but its not, etc.

More importantly, the dev “full” released the game with many key features missing/not implemented in the game yet. There are no new maps since the beta, no rank play or ladder, no coop campaign/missions, no AI improvements, no steam achievements and so on.

This is extremely disappointing. Despite many players provide their suggestions and warnings to the dev before the full release, the dev barely changes or improves any aspects of the game. If the dev wants to keep improving or fixing the game overtime, they should brand the game as an early access title instead of publishing an unfinished game.

As a baker, I’m really disappointed and would not recommend this game for now to anyone who is interested.

Strategy that lost 90% of its steam audience in just one month! Slow, clunky gameplay, glitches, bad controls, old COH engine - unfortunately, beautiful arts often don't mean a great game.

I'm updating the review after almost 1 year since purchasing the game.

The game has now a solid player base also online, with season rewards and rankings. Not the most famous strategy game but I'm quite sure you can find someone online to play with. But, the learning curve is quite long and im playing mostly offline for that. Gameplay is slow, do not expect fast paced rts like aoe

But, the learning curve is quite long and im playing mostly offline for that.

Gameplay is slow, do not expect fast paced rts like aoe or starcraft, especially mechs can get a solid 3 to 5 mins to go from a side to the other of a map, the problm is that units do not cap speed at the lowest one in the group so if you don't pay attention mechs will arrive when the party is already over for good. Yet, the several kind of units and mechs make every battle different and unique.

A thing I really don't like is that the game is very badly optimized. I do run a 5700xt and ryz 2600 still can't get more than 30 fps in most of crowded situations. Is not a game that gets much better at 60 fps but a minimum of 30 would be really the standard; changing res (1440p) or quality does not change much so I guess is really a matter of optimization.
This thing got slighty better with latest updates but still not enough.

Boring and uninspired. For a game that supposedly took its inspiration from COH and is trying to woo that particular crowd, it learned nothing from it and is bereft of all the things that made COH popular. No powersBoring and uninspired. For a game that supposedly took its inspiration from COH and is trying to woo that particular crowd, it learned nothing from it and is bereft of all the things that made COH popular. The comparison with the vaunted COH franchise is only skin deep, the aesthetics in terms of color palette seems similar and IH has a cover system as well but that's about it. No powers you can use on the map and far less unit variety - VERY LITTLE difference when it comes to infantry from the various factions. For example, the anti armor unit is the same for each faction. No difference in terms of range, damage, firing rate, etc. Even the weapon used is the exact same graphic model, only the soldier model is different. Speaking about the cover system, it is not as deep as COH's. COH is able to create dynamic cover on the fly from explosions(eg craters) and wreckage. IH cover is only limited to preset pieces or sandbags that you can build.

Don't get me started on the skirmish AI. It is dumb as a brick even on the highest difficulty. It literally stops fighting early on if you so much as make an effort to play. Google and you can find a lot of such feedback from others. Even COH's easy AI makes a greater effort than IH's highest difficulty. The AI in the campaign is the same as well but it seems more adept because it can do shenanigans such as spawning large groups of enemies out of nowhere and ignore population capacity restrictions - ie highly scripted.

For some weird reason, the devs decided that it would be okay to have "input delay". If you order a unit to move to a particular spot, it takes a few seconds to register it. Same goes for attacking as well.

The multiplayer community is very small. Trying to find anything other than 1v1 will take a long time. For some reason, this game is server based only. That's to say, we can only play multiplayer through their servers, no peer to peer. I know they do not have a server in Australia or anywhere near my country because my ping is 300+ms. My mate lives in Perth and I Sydney but we both have to endure the same horrid latency that results in the worsening of the aforementioned input delay. I have seen some talk that they only have servers in Germany where the company is located

I would have held off my review to see if it went anywhere but since the community manager thinks the game is in a good enough state for him to go on the game's reddit to beg for positive reviews on metacritic, I decided to oblige him, though not with a positive one. Those bunch of positive reviews in the same period as mine were also made in response to that particular begging thread. Mate, if your game is good, it will receive praise from many in due course without needing you to beg for them. Begging for one is just putting the cart before the horse, not forgetting that it is poor form as well to beg for praise.

It may become good one day but today is not that day.

I am very undiceded on which score I should give the game.

On one side, I do enjoy many parts of the game:
+ The visuals and designs of the mechs are great as well the voice over.
+ Gameplay mechanics are not deep yet still quiet skill based in execution.
+ The pace of the MP games is dynamic, does not stale often.
+ Campaign us overall very enjoyable. For my taste a little bit rushed and a bit too little world building but not to a significant amount.
+ Season challenges are a nice little addition
+ The challange missions are quit challenging, need a bit of skill and a plan
+ Devs did listen on community feedback about maps, appreciate that one. They have goten much better from the garbage state they were in beta, half of them have still serious issues.

On the other side, the game released as an Alpha/Early Acces, basic features not complete, many parts not polished:
    - Nonexistent AI. Just a script that breaks 30 sec into the match.
    - Blatantly did not release on many plattforms and for example the GoG version suffered platform releated issues.
    - Stem Store page was on release not up to date at all and still.
    - Achievements are all over the place and they did the Steam achivements not on release!? After the release was already delayed by almost a year, that is.
    - Had several issues with cutscenes skipping and voice over in wrong leguages, minor though.
    - More then half of their balance patches are poorly thought out. One unit that was too powerful was just deleted from any play by making it weaker and more expensive at the same time (Grozas Exosuits). Other unit was bad and was made into even something worse (Medics). Some mechs are just seriously bad overall and the was a small attempt to make only one of them, for some godforsaken reason, better but did nothing. That outcome was obvious, even by just looking at the numbers.
    - The game was not made with a clear idea how the tech progress should be. The reserve system is extremely prone to fall into a meta (it did already) and in most games it takes a lot of in game choices away, instead of countering oponents play one has to rush Reseves just because they are 3 times the resource value.
    - Devs do not posses the ability for hotfixes, I guess this is an internal workflow issue. Two units are currently completely overtuned and nothing is done about it. (Michal and Nakavalnya)
    - Co Op is a farse. It is just two people controlling the same army as in single player campaign mode. More then half the missions turn very questionable since there is a limited amount of units to use and one has to keep them together, there is just not enough micro for both players. It makes the experience ultimately worse. Even frckn hot keys are shared but one player does not get campaign progress!?
    - The ability to reverse move mechs is to this day not in the UI and thus not usable for people who use primarily the mouse (in this low micro game, it is totally an option, as well as WASD camera pan). And more importantly, new players just don't know about it.
    - I have yet not seen a single person who likes the comeback mechanic of getting 50 Victory Points for a decap of a flag. It was pure garbage in the Demo and is now still an afterthought. It does not actually work as a comeback mechanic but rather just outright takes any suspense out of many close late game fights.
    - Custom games search is just a check box, no lobby browser. People joining and leaving left and right since there is no way to see the setting previously/filter and one can be stuck in a loop of joining the same not wanted lobby.
    - there are a some unlockables like mech skins but one can only get them by playing versus a nonexistent AI. Forcing people to grind a bsolute garbage if they want that unstead of playing againdt other people and enjoying the game.
    - The patchnotes are not released on purpose, i put this under poor decisionmaking. Sometimes I feel the reason for this decision was that the devs have no overview of this already very simplistic game and just hope that if there is something broken, that people just won't find out about it.

As of my backround: I have played well over 100 hours since the beta released, played through the campaign, the challenges, all MP maps in all modes, discussed and watched competivie play.

That being said, I still do like the game and enjoying it for what it is. Still having hope that those negative points will be adressed properly. At the moment I can only recommend the game to either campaign players (who do not care about achievements, 1/3 of them don't work) or people who want to dive into a frsh multiplayer experience (raw in many parts and no ranked yet).

Funny enough I rated it a 7 when I wrote this piece but then looking at all the minus points I took it down by 1.

The core idea of the game and the potential of Gameplay mechanics: 9/10

This game is the perfect show what happens when the developers totally fail to understand and listen to there community. The community said that they want a game with a deep strategy, A lot of micro, and a lot of strategic options. Instead we got....... This.... Let me explain.

Compared to the wildly praised Men of war Assault Squad games this game is a complete joke. It feels like we are back in 2015 with how the units seem to be stuck together in a "Blob". You can't split them up and god help you if you try any micro what so ever. This is CoH in a Steam punk setting where you send blobs of troops against each other and just hope that one of them get a better dice roll to defeat the other. (More on that later)

Compare that to Men of War games where you could split up a squad of 8 soldiers into 8 separate soldiers (if you wanted) and move them around separately, But not in this no, Here we go with the old CoH gameplay where everyone is stuck in a "blob" together. Its sad to see in a game from 2020.

Also this dice throw regarding dmg in this is a complete joke, Once again, Compare this to men of war where units actually die IF they get shot. That means that there is no longer two squads standing on each side of a waist high stone wall shooting eachother in the face for 1 minute before one of the squads loose 2 soldiers. Its a complete joke.

What more, Compare to MEN OF WAR you can't micro what so ever, You can't pick up enemy weapons, you can't go up to "mech,s" and look at there inventory and maybe take the heavy MG off the mech and use it yourself or go up to a dead soldier, Grab his gun and some granades he havent used and throw them back at the enemy.

Men of War is THE kind of Strategy game this game SHOULD have been. Sadly its not and this is just a broken mess ala CoH. This could have been a damn MOD for CoH if anything.

Like in Men of War. You can go up to a destroyed tank, Grab the heavy MG from it and then use it yourself as a heavy MG from the wall you are hiding behind, But no not in this.. Here we are stuck in 2015 still.

That the devs of this game don't understood the possibilities of this game and what they could do with it was just sad to witness. But hey. Some devs are just not good at what they are doing. These devs are those kind of ppl.

Gameplay-wise the only thing it succeeds in is making me want to reinstall COH2. IH offers no improvement to that formula and it also has less depth. The friendly AI is bad, the cover system does not always work and the mechs, while cool, do not offer much of a new mechanic. The number of units one can comfortably control is similar to tactical games (your xcom, wasteland and the like) rather than an RTS, where you might control dozens of units. But, there is not enough control to justify a focus on so few units at a time, therefore, the experience is limited. Even the first COH offered better control and an experience that did not feel limited. Furthermore, UI suffers from quality of life issues that have been solved for at least a decade in the RTS world. For instance, why can't I shift click unit portraits to combine units? That's just silly.

But, I suppose, if you are new to this type of RTS, it is not terrible, per se. I'd give it maybe a 7 based on originality and gameplay.

Performance is another story. This game does not deserve to have such terrible performance. It's by no means ugly, but it does not look THAT much better than 10 year old games. I won't bore you with the details but my benchmark-level PC runs the game at around 50 FPS with not much going on; when explosions start, the game becomes unplayable; even clicking around menus results in noticeable performance dips. This is the first modern title to have this issue (one exception being RE Village but that has significant ray tracing and a documented memory leak). Folks with older graphics cards and CPUs are reporting almost exactly the same problem, with similar FPS, which suggests poor optimization rather than a hardware issue. Given that we're now in DLC territory, it seems that the game will never be properly optimized and that's a giant FU to customers.

If you're fan of the genre, you not going to be disappointed. But keep in mind, you really need to polish your strategic skills to be successful, because this game is not easy.

There are missions so incredibly hard even on medium difficulty, that you going to sweat blood while you finish it.

If you ever hit the RETREAT button, your entire army will run all the way across the map back to your base while you have zero control over them. You're just a spectator for like5 full minutes. Who's idea was that? In a very early mission you have to protect a train, but it's got literally ONE hit point. I instant-failed that mission 8 times because single men got through and shot the train. It suggested I build bunkers, but the game won't let you do that if you're maxed out on the number of you infantry (for some reason). So I had to intentionally kill a bunch of my men to build the bunkers to pass that stage. This is when the game was still trying to teach me how to play it! Amazing CoH-like rts game (meaning it resembles the mechanics of company of heroes [a superb game series if you haven't played it] closely while also maintaining its own unique identity)

This game is fun for both the casual rts player who doesn't play many of these types of games and for experienced rts players.
For the casual player, it offers a good campaign with well done cinematic scenes and good voice acting especially when playing in "native languages" mode. As well as a skirmish and scenarios mode that is full of challenges, rewards and unlockables. With plenty of new stuff being added through a season system which is free to participate in and you get all your rewards, no paywalls once the game is yours. Which is a breath of fresh air in today's dev cycle of games.

For the vets, it has casual multiplayer, and ranked multiplayer. A good amount of maps(with definitely more coming) and a variety of game modes. Each faction has its own deep tactical/unit pool and almost every match requires different tactics and units depending on your opponents play style. Unlike games like starcraft, if you are down, or lose a few large battles you are most certainly not out! The matches are a bit lengthier and there is a great comeback potential if you re-organize yourself and truly outwit your opponent, the game is balanced and fair overall.

I can highly recommend this game for anyone who enjoys rts, or even wants to get started in it. I suggest getting the deluxe edition as it will give you access to future dlc, as well as a current dlc campaign that's been released already. Finally, sadly no match history or theatre mode yet but i'm sure the devs will be adding these things in the future as it's still a very new game from a relatively small studio. They definitely deserve our support :) This game has amazing potential for the future, and is still currently a great game to play.

It's basically a casual and reskinned version of Company of Heroes.
The campaign is very dull. Multiplayer is just like CoH but simpler.
I was skeptical when they were making the game like 5 years ago and it did not surprise me. Is it based on a famous novel or something? CoH is not a popular genre and dev added even less popular factors like dieselpunk and alt-history into it. Nice
