Short and sweet - It's the best way to race online. Though if you're looking for a single player experience it's just not worth it. The price is only justified if you're willing to compete online and only online.

Being releatively new to sim racing I can say I do not have the best opinion compared to pros but after 100 hours in iRacing I can say the game is amazing at what it does. It allows you to converse with others easily in races/practice and it allows you to check replays easily to see what I did wrong. This helps me improve. Negative marks for having zero rain options/features.
    Thank you

Graphics in VR and physics are great.
    BUT HERE IS A WARNING!
There is no way to play without Internet connection and no offline playing without payed subscription. That's not the worst. You pay for the track Nordschleife. But there is no way to play this track against AI. You have to buy the Grandprix track as well because in an AI race you are only allowed to race the combined course.

If you buy the (Legacy) Ferrari 488 GT3 cause it's a cheap option and want to race with this car online against others. Be adviced. In a month I haven't seen one lobby with this car. So buy this car only if you want to drive against AI.

Despite of the great simulation, but there are 2 downfall for this game:
    1. Subscription based game
    2. Pay-2-Win

iRacing is a pure Simulation, not an Arcade racer in any sense of the word. It's for the hardcore driving enthusiast. FromiRacing is a pure Simulation, not an Arcade racer in any sense of the word. It's for the hardcore driving enthusiast. The subscription service based platform makes it more costly than other options on the market, but due to their partnerships with real life racers, teams and sanctioning bodies, iRacing has access to more data than ever before to mimic the real life driving experience. From your local Saturday night dirt track, to NASCAR, to the world of Formula One and everything in between, iRacing offers an online, multiplayer experience unlike any other in the genre. Factually, no other simulation or game boasts the active community iRacing does, boasting over 5,000 active racers at any given time that you can jump into racing with on a moment's notice. There is never a time on this simulator you cannot find something to race against many other people.

iRacing painstakingly scans every car and track to within 1mm of visual and structural accuracy, then adds a higher level of data than ever before to give the user a truly one-of-a-kind experience across the wide array of disciplines in auto racing. Some sims may do one type of car accurately, iRacing does multiple types of racing accurately. There just is no peer in the world to what this simulator provides to the general public.

The user may pay a subscription and may need to buy extra cars and tracks (which DO cost a decent amount of money) however the User also sees more direct improvements made to this racing sim than any other in the genre by a factor of 10. The sim is realistic enough for me to say the following: "Instead of comparing iRacing to other 'Racing games' on the market, you need to be judging iRacing's overall cost versus buying an actual race car of your choice, whatever it may be. It's far cheaper to iRace, and you won't get hurt doing it.

iRacing is the single best option in the world if you want to race constantly against other real life people in a realistic environment. There is absolutely, unequivocally NO OTHER CHOICE.
With officially sanctioned events backed by the real life counterparts, iRacing offers at it's highest level the NASCAR iRacing Coca Cola Series with a Championship purse of $300,000. However eSports isn't the end all be all of this simulation. Whether you're looking to become a serious eSports racer, or just casually race the official series provided, or host single races or league championships with friends, iRacing.com is THE standard all others attempting to break into the world of Motorsports Simulation must compare themselves to and to date, no one has come close.

And the game itself feels like something from 2001-2002, not a modern racing game.

Also, since I've spoken on multiplayer - multiplayer is great if you don't mind random jumpings of other cars that also cause accidets.

Perhaps this is my fault for not looking into it further before buying, but I expect some game for my money, you know? Especially if I'm paying monthly. Imagine if WoW only gave you two classes and two races and made you pay $20 for every other one, only to find out that you have to pay even more if you want to explore the same areas on the map as your friends. All on top of spending $15 per month. The physics and gameplay seem good, but I can't justify giving this game anything over a 2 considering the poor value per dollar spent.

The refund policy is also unforgiving. I understand they have it stated in multiple places that they don't give refunds, but I asked for a refund on an additional 3 months merely one day after it autorenewed, because I had forgotten about the game entirely and had not played it for about 2 1/2 months. I had to fight with customer service over several emails to be granted a partial refund and have my account deactivated. I practically donated money to their company, given that I barely played the game, and they still acted like a partial refund on a service I wasn't going to use at all was some kind of enormous favor to me. Other subscription services have good customer service policy. This one does not. Just because their policy is 'clearly stated' does not mean it's a good policy immune to criticism. Its a shame that developers spent so much time on a decent racing game only to have micro transactions and bad business policy muddy their hard work.

Tire physics have morphed into an on-going project for the dev team, with cars changing rapidly from one build to the next. This is par for the course with the "games as a service" model, but for a company who claims to be at the forefront of auto racing simulation, handling characteristics drastically shifting from one extreme to the other with each passing build says more than any of their marketing ever could. You can try to bring this up in the forums, but the obsessed fans convinced this is their ticket into real NASCAR won't let you get very far. Expand

Am I a serious sim racer? No. I just like driving sims. Do I compete? Nope. I like doing personal best laps. Is iRacing the best sim I've come across to date? Yes. For sure. It's harsh, it wants you to DRIVE. It's multiplayer is awesome. Had some GREAT moments (3 abreast in Skip Barber around the 1st corner of brands!). Awesome, requires and expects commitment. Well worth it.

Could it be better? Sure. Everything can be "better". Define "better". Graphics could do with more, but regardless, iRacing is my benchmark. I always come back to it as a reference.

I know that iRacing is very popular. Having played it many hours, and having also played Project Cars in addition to racing real cars, I am sure I do not understand how iRacing stays in business.

I am using the Oculus Rift VR. Naturally, a VR "racing" experience is preferable to a flat screen, or any number of flat screens...IF the user interface of the "game" actually is usable. In the fullness of time iRacing eventually did condescend to support VR, but compared to others, like Project Cars, they did a very poor job of it.

Project Cars (PC) and Steam have just about gotten the VR interface functionality figured out. The RIFT interface in PC allows the user to do just about everything without ever removing the head gear. The Steam VR interface even allows the seating position to be adjusted, as it should, and navigation through the various car set ups, tracks, options, etc. is fairly intuitive and fast, for Project Cars. You never have to remove the VR headset with PC using the Steam interface.

NONE of these statements applies to iRacing. Their VR implementation appears to have been done just to ensure that no one is ever tempted to buy VR. Let me say, I am a person who WILL NOT spend many days screwing with an interface that has NO instructions, going on line to forums, searching the web endlessly for clues about how to make something work. I buy it. It is supposed to work. The folks at iRacing have always been unaware of that concept. Even the flat screen version is an endless pain to get set up with cars that behave...but in VR...well...Just don't even think about it. There are no readable instruments, you cant tell what gear you're in, you can't tell your speed, information "windows" are strewn broadly around the field of view, and you will be made to remove the headset and readjust the VR sensor positioning anytime you change cars or boot up with the RIFT not on your head. There is no way to access VR controls from within iRacing. Maybe there will be someday, but not now....8/22/2016.

So I attempted to get iRacing running using Steam. Since Steam VR seems to work so well with Project Cars, I thought, maybe there is hope for iRacing. There is a way to get iRacing activated under steam. If you look around long enough you will find the secrets buried deeply under the "My Account" button on iRacing. Ultimately that involves them giving you a ONE TIME key...that you have to use TWICE. Now, I didn't write the key down, and that is a fatal mistake unless you have a photographic memory.

The first time you use the ONE TIME KEY Steam will download and install iRacing. After all that, you will be told that you are all ready to go, but you are not. When you attempt to 'PLAY" iRacing in Steam, you will asked for the ONE TIME KEY again. And without it, you go no where. It didn't cost you anything but time, but you are totally screwed if you lost that KEY. So, I will never know if the Stream VR interface makes iRacing usable. If you get it working, let others know what you think.

iRacing has a few US tracks that are free, and that makes it attractive, but everything else costs a lot. Project Cars has a lot of tracks and cars that are included in the purchase, but there is no way to add new tracks or cars until they build them up and offer a DLC package. They have a few DLCs, reasonably priced, and all of them work.

iRacing offers a lot of flexible racing choices that you can pay more for, but the cost just keeps adding up. Since I prefer the VR world for SIM Racing, I am completely disappointed with iRacing. It is too painful to use for VR. I generously gave it a score of 4 because I know a LOT of hard work went into producing what little they have. If they had managed to make all the nifty graphics and physics actually usable, if they had a VR interface that worked, if I didn't have to spend more and more and more money just to get an experience that is inferior to Project Cars...I might have given it 6 stars.

ill get straight to the point this game is extremely expensive if you buy all the content working out to around $700 from what i remember from people who worked it out and then on top of that you have to pay a subscription which if you buy the subscription at the right time e.g Black Friday or other holidays but lets get this straight you do not need to buy everything for most people they will stick to either Oval Racing or Road Racing and have a little try of the other type of racing so that will save you a lot of money becasue you wont have to buy all the cars for oval racing which there are many and your average sim racer will keep to one car for a long time me personally i drive the Spec Racer Ford and have done for around 200 hours of play time and have only bought a few tracks and im happy with that and i will when i get board which wont be any time soon move on to a different car

    game play
this sim has some of the best racing i have ever been apart of with their IRating system you will always be matched up with people that are roughly the same skill as you and will increase when you do well in a race and decrease when you do badly

it isnt uncommon at least in the Spec Racer Ford to have 1st and 2nd in a photo finish i have been apart of many in other cars there can be bigger game due to how they race but generally you will be quite close to each other in races but one good thing about the price tag is that trolls and kids wont bother you ever because they wont want to spend that money and get banned or they dont have the money in the first place

    Physics
Iracing is not perfect in the physics department however its no bad its quite close to real life but not quite perfect the only car that i have come across that i question its physics is the Skip Barber the brakes just dont seem quite right if you even tap them you will most likely spin now i know about weight transfer affecting the can however this is just far to exaggeration however it has some of the most close racing in all of iracing

in conclusion if you enjoy racing and at that the closest racing you will ever have and can over look the very high price which if thought about can be bought over a long time the physics are not the best out there but it sure as hell close

one note if you do join dont give up during rookies its going to be hell but hold on once your out you will enjoy it a lot more i guarantee you that

what are you waiting for get out there

So realistic it's almost a professional tool more than a game. Still the best realistic racing experience out there.

An impressive game, but not one that will be to everyone's tastes, especially not those after a quick thrill. [Sept 2010, p.88]
  3. iRacing is a very tough simulation and can only be recommended to gamers immune to frustration. Only real motoring fans should pay a monthly fee and even more for additional packs. The graphics give the impression of an unfinished beta, but at least the atmosphere between the players is always friendly.
