In short: You can avoid this game and your life won't be lacking. The only reason I can see to play this game would be if you REALLY love Gears of War and can't wait for the next installment to be released. Even then, I imagine you'd be happier replaying any of the GoW games. The only reason I can see to play this game would be if you REALLY love Gears of War and can't wait for the next installment to be released. Even then, I imagine you'd be happier replaying any of the GoW games. Inversion starts off with an intriguing premise, the idea of gravity affect tools, and then goes almost nowhere with it. Characters are 1 dimensional. Level design is poor. AI partner is a liability. Application of gravity tool fluctuates between superfluous and inconvenient. Cut-scenes ceaselessly interrupt gameplay. Checkpoints are usually inconvenient (i.e. - before a cut-scene, not after). Lack of shoulder aim switching makes combat tedious. Enemy types are very limited and poorly designed boss types are used repeatedly, sometimes in rapid succession. I did not play coop, which may have made the experience more enjoyable, but having played 4/5 of the game single player, I can't ask another person to play this game with a clear conscience. Expand

Unresponsive controls, repetitive bosses, game play doesn't feel smooth,no actual tutorial about how to use your gravity device ACTUALLY THERE IS but due to unresponsive controls it's useless. Seriously some good studio should really make republic commando 2 so SOME PEOPLE can learn how to design checkpoints and how resurrecting your teammate works(IT WORKS BOTH WAYS!!!)no seriously thoughUnresponsive controls, repetitive bosses, game play doesn't feel smooth,no actual tutorial about how to use your gravity device ACTUALLY THERE IS but due to unresponsive controls it's useless. Inversion is a game that i loathed every single second of. and not because it was bad if it was straight up bad i think id have liked it more but the whole game every aspect of it ( with a few hints of ingenuity scattered through out) is just over all passable and some how that is worst than bad .there is some praise i will give but i am just going to rip this game a new one.

Story: while i think the overall concept (post twist) was clever and could have made a decent game on its own in the right hands the story even had a strong start where did these people wearing broken road hockey goalie masks growing up Canadian i can identify that pretty easily . BUT other than that the plot is all over the place even within a single scene it dosent know what it wants the main character is annoying and an idiot the 2nd player character is the voice of reason but he was bland as all can be and the whole " gotta find my daughter" felt derivative, also there is the poor execution , terrible pacing and awful voice acting bogging the story down. 3rd person shooters are a great platform to tell a great story and inversion mixes good ideas with laughably poor story telling.
    Story : 1/10

World building: despite the actual plot being far less than adequate the world building was actually sort of inspired but i cant really talk about the world building without spoilers because the true world in this game is part of the twist but the actual world makes more sense than the plot and actualy adds it self to the game play and being apart of the twist like i said elevates the world higher than it should have been.
    world building: 6/10

Graphics: the game looks like uhm .....rescue heroes the models have big feet ? but the dont have big feet but the animations act as if they do have big feet. environments look good despite the chest high cover scattered through out feels much less dynamic that way. WHY FOR THE LOVE of gaming WHY give your main character a plain tee shirt terrible design choice he looks like a background cgi crown character from the latest high school anime but the anime is set in the rescue heros universe. the enviroments are perspective bending and that i liked i think if this idea was explored more then the game could have been MUCH better.( at least the guns looked good)
    Graphics; 5/10

Gameplay: slow paced, outdated game design and is almost clear copy of Gears of war minus the grit( this game is gorey as hell and it dose not have the same impact as gears dose. chest high cover ALL OVER( stop this) it makes the game predictable. the best part of the game was the anti grav wrist band thing picking enimies out from cover but they dont really do much with it besides the obvious
    gameplay 4/10

Sound design: Terrible voice acting repetitive gun sounds and forgettable music also the BORE that is the main menu music.
    sound design: 1/10

    1+6+5+4+1=17
    17/5= 3.4/10

this game is clearly just a big publisher trying to take advantage of trends that is to late to take advantage of and it was rushed out the door.

The game that wanted to be king but was afraid of making the right decisions – sometimes when you copy successful concepts from others and combine them with your own fresh ideas you just waste the potential. [Sept 2012]

Inversion is a heavily linear by-the-numbers cover shooter that fails to make the most of its few high points. [Nov 2012, p.72]

The potential for something strong was here- but the mediocre level design and the repetition of the mechanics, hold Inversion back from 'diamond' status. That's not to say that it's a bad game: the 9 or 10 hours of gameplay are fun, but only that… there's not enough thrill and excitement to hold you from other games. [September 2012]
