Sep 14, 2020There’s little fat on this adventure. The aesthetic is unnerving and the audio production is second to none. What presents as a cute adventure quickly turns into an unsettling tale that might leave younger minds checking the closet for moving shadows. Just as you think things are starting to become mundane, Inmost unleashes a new twist. Whether that is a new character, a different enemy, or a new tale of woe, there’s no hanging around for filler. Inmost is short but the excellent proportion, charming visuals, and incredible audio all combine to make a truly enthralling experience. Grab it on a stormy night when you’re looking for something a little darker.

Sep 11, 2020The pixel art aesthetic of Inmost is one of its main protagonist, accompanying ideally the grim story.

Aug 30, 2020Somber, emotional, and allegoric, Inmost is more than the sum of its parts and a memorable experience, in spite of its short duration.

CD-ActionNov 16, 2020Each of Inmost’s three playable characters has been given not only their own narrative, but also distinctly different gameplay mechanics. The bearded man’s segment is a full-blooded platformer that reminded me of Hollow Knight (and that’s a huge compliment). The little girl’s gripping story took the form of a simple yet suspenseful adventure game. And then there’s the knight whose action-oriented section is dull and feels like it was grafted from a different title. Despite that disappointment, I’m not surprised by the awards this beautiful, memorable game won when it was initially released on mobile devices. [11/2020, p.70]

Oct 29, 2020What initially sold me on INMOST was the notion that it was inspired by the considerably more light-hearted To The Moon; while I wasn’t expecting such a tragic tale about pain and suffering, the developers definitively recaptured what made their muse great. Realistic depth of characters, discussion of topics oft overlooked yet extremely relatable, and a compelling narrative made for a captivating journey that will stick with me for a long time. INMOST will likely fall on my top 10 list of games released in 2020, and, as long as you have a controller and don’t mind the pricetag for a five hour experience, I’m confident you’ll feel similarly.

Oct 3, 2020Inmost is a mix of ideas that might feel strange, although that is what has made us fall in love with them. Add a great story and you’ll have one of the most unique games we’ve played this year.

Sep 16, 2020INMOST was a pleasant surprise. The game was a short experience with a powerful narrative with effects that can last so much longer. As for the gameplay itself, the fun puzzles and collaboration with the story helped to bring the game to life. Speaking of which, the game’s audio and visual elements also worked well together in setting the tone of the game. Overall, all the elements of the game come together in the end, much like its narrative, to provide players with a strong package.

Aug 27, 2020Pixels shouldn’t be this scary. Inmost is a short but very memorable metroidvania horror, full of cinematic lighting and intricate diorama-like levels. The visual storytelling is masterful, and it’s without doubt the most atmospheric 2D game since Hollow Knight. Grab some noise-cancelling headphones and turn off the lights, you’re in for a fright.
-
Aug 18, 2020Driven by a mastered artistic direction and a staging that hits the mark, Inmost is a dark and captivating tale that can be read in one go.
-
Aug 25, 2020It's possible that the hybridization of styles may it lose some steam, as it is a short experience, but there is no doubt that its essence is very intense. Solid. Intimate.
-
Sep 14, 2020INMOST is by no means the most original game, but players who appreciate simply being absorbed into a beautiful, frightening setting should enjoy it. The world is small but densely packed with details that truly conjure the feeling of exploring a shadowy realm by the light of the moon.

Nov 21, 2020Brevity (just 4 hours to credits roll!), serious subject matter, good sound design, easy platforming and accessible puzzles almost balance out the many shortcomings of Inmost, like its non-interactive climax, weird controls and empty talk in lengthy dialogues. But not the mind-numbingly dull knight episodes — those are beyond redemption.
-
Sep 12, 2020Inmost is a very sad and psychologically moving story about loss, personal experiences and pain, which gives players a hope for purification and redemption, showing a bright and love-filled ending. And hope is what we miss so much in a life filled with stress and nervous tension, especially this year.

Sep 18, 2020I’ve worried before when criticising such tales that I might be undermining the real-life experiences of a creator, who is trying to process through their creation. I feel reasonably secure that no one has ever gone through a situation as ridiculous as what’s eventually depicted here. It’s bothered me.
