Storyless boring dungeon crawl. No history or realms lore. Narrow long dungeons where your party constantly gets bottle necked or outright stuck. Kill a goblin then a skeleton the a zombie and it just goes on and on and on.

Icewind dale was obviously just a money making exercise riding of the success of baldurs gate. You can tell the developers hardly put anytime into making it compared

This game is just an infinity engine dungeon crawler with very little story. The problem? Well the infinity engine combat is really dated and obtuse. Even when you take the time to understand these games poorly communicated rulesets you still aren't left with a particularly interesting tactical combat experience. This is poison to a game like this that leans entirely onto those aspects. This game is just an infinity engine dungeon crawler with very little story. The problem? Canadians responsible for this edition restrained their own creativity almost completely, delivering a polished product true to the original game. [13/2014, p.63]

For someone looking for a game like the Baldur’s Gate titles but with more emphasis on spending time fighting monsters and delving through dungeons, this may be just the thing.

Icewind Dale isn’t a perfect game, but it’s one of the best RPGs of all times. Obviously, the Enhanced Edition is also among the best in the genre, but it only brings minor improvements into the mix.
