I really loved my time playing hotline miamai 2. The narritive is very rich, very confusing and strange. The biggest issue with this one, however, is that it is not as polished/tight to play as a the first game. The comvbat loop in 2 is slower, more enemy dense and I defintely expeienced more jank playing this tittle. Like dogs glitching in walls, getting stuck on the enviroment more.I really loved my time playing hotline miamai 2. The narritive is very rich, very confusing and strange.

This has been a decent ride with some up's and downs. The soundtrack was fire and most of the tracks were full of hardcore love , it made me feel like a Miami cop on his last days. The story was a cryptic bizzaro tale which can be pieced together if you pay close attention to the details and characters but that doesn't make it a good story it just makes it a decent one in my eyes. The gameplay is the same as the previous one which is mostly mastering the level layout and enemy AI by dying repeatably until you do , sadly a lot of it was ruined by bugs and sometimes a slower input on the controls. You can often get stuck on walls or doors for example and you might be required to restart the entire level all over again which can piss you off since some levels are pretty hard to beat. Expand

Fun game to finish. Fairer than the first one. The music is still awesome and the gameplay got more varieties. Not too care about the story. I just wish that there is option to always hold the Shift instead of always have to hold it.

Horrible level design, terrible bugs and broken mechanics, this game is a mess. You get sniped by enemies you can't even see, you cant hit enemies in a doorway, and Ash and Alex are a pain in the @ss to play. The aiming is so jittery and hard to control, and half the time you cant see your character, so you end up running into walls and getting killed.

a man goes to the doctor. says he's depressed. he says life seems harsh and cruel. says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. the doctor says "the treatment is simple. the great clown pagliacci is in town tonight. go and see him, that should pick you up." the man bursts into tears. he says "but doctor... i am pagliacci."

Hotline Miami 2 could be a good game if not for the terrible level design.
Floors have much bigger rooms, wider and longer corridors and more windows between rooms than in the original. It makes levels more open and this is a very bad thing in a game like this. A lot of the time enemies can shoot player from somewhere outside of the screen, making it almost impossible to play aggressively

Overall original Hotline Miami is pretty much the same game but much better and that makes the sequel pointless.

Fun game, but not as good as the first one. The story is pretty good but the writing is very corny, needed a lot more work. The art style is great as always and the music is even better than the first one, very well done in that regard. Playing this game more for the ambiance and feel is definitely what you want to go for, the gameplay is fun and all, but if you're going strictly for gameplay stick with the first one. Worth the money no question, but a little disappointing.

Still a great game, but if you only liked the gameplay of Hotline Miami then this is all it has to offer. The magic of the first game seems to be lost in this sequel and there has been not much improvement to the gameplay, so the AI still glitch up sometimes, and killing an enemy can cause them to show up through the walls.

Most people will probably consider this borderline unplayable due to the insane difficulty. I did beat it on Hard as well but overall I'd say some areas of this game seem like they got very little or no playtesting at all. Soundtrack is phenomenal.

The game is a sensual feast that leaves me exhausted after a while, even more so than the first game, with a soundtrack that's even more driving and mesmerizing. The new characters add a lot of variety, but there are some serious balance issues going on and it detracts somewhat from the simplicity that made the first one so smooth. From tight, confined experience to broader and messier, there are still a lot of things here I enjoyed, but it's simply not as memorable as the first game and remains one for the fans who want a little more. Non-essential gaming but intriguing for the curious and adrenaline-addicted.

A mixed bag that attempts to build on the strengths of the original but seems to struggle against its own design. I love how much larger the new maps are but that is also one of the games biggest issues; Much of the game is spent shift-looking far ahead of you to line up the perfect shot while hiding behind cover because a missed shot means a counter-shot from off screen can kill you. Too many of the maps were a complete joke with you spamming walls of shotgun fire off screen in the hopes of killing stuff (and actually succeeding) and rewarding you with a huge combo or punishing you with a bullet in the back from off screen. I guess rooms made out of entirely glass were popular in the 80s because there are also tons of windows this time around, meaning enemies from outside of your vision can shoot to kill from multiple rooms away. Melee is usually an option but with long corridors and tons of breakable windows its often unrealistic to melee everything everytime.

If the game was in a different engine (with some kind of first person option) or had a zoom feature I would've really loved this and it would've felt like a significant improvement over the original. New characters, bigger levels, more weapons, and a psychedelic story are great and all, but when the core gameplay is this frustrating and unwieldy it is difficult to recommend. If you enjoyed the original its worth picking up but I wouldn't recommend it for newcomers to the series despite being completely seperate from the original (outside of lore).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Instead of polishing the original game's hand-to-hand combat, HM2 became more gun-oriented.
Instead of making the game harder, HM2 became more unfair to player.
Instead of focusing on one character and developing him, HM2 introduces 7+ characters and kills them off quicker than you can start to sympathize with any of them.
Instead of sandbox-like ability to play any level with any mask, HM2 forces player to play a specific level with specific character.
Instead of fixing previous game's bugs, HM2 contains new ones.
Instead of being a great sequel, HM2 is an utter disappointment.
