Aside from just being a bad game (see all the other user reviews), Homefront actually starts to feel like some kind of bizarre propaganda tool within the first 5 minutes of the campaign. If some creepy midwestern militia ever published a game, it would look startlingly like this. I'm almost afraid part of the 7 bucks I paid went to some radical fringe organization.

Wow...where to begin? Well it looks like a project that had a timeline that the developers couldn't meet.

    1) Spectacle: The world detail is really impressive, the color and lighting is well done. However, the model detail of the characters and enemies are really disappointing with oddly shaped characters. The blood spatters when the AI gets shot looks like an arcade game in your local mall that was designed 5+ years ago.

    2) Movement/Clipping: THIS IS HORRIBLE!!! You feel caged in by the world, the items in the world have large hit-boxes which halt your movement through the level. I am constantly getting held up in critical firefight moments by pieces of garbage lower than my knees, objects in the world have invisible force-fields that get in your way.

    3) Story: Good idea, very interesting, and I want to see how it turns out. The storyline is the only reason I made it 4 chapters into the game before I got entirely fed up and quit.

    4) Interaction/Triggers: This is another thing which I really REALLY hated! I am constantly being held back from moving into the next part of the level by closed doors and barricades which only the friendly AI can move, which wouldn't be bad if they weren't so clumsy at it! The AI moves along predetermined paths and takes forever to progress to the next thing. I literally counted 8 toggles between crouch and standing of one of the characters while we were in a burning building before he successfully moved into position to remove the barrier. I am ALWAYS the last person to pass through any transition, because the level will not let me progress until all the other AI have made their clumsy, awkward, and totally unnatural way through.

    5) Weapons/Ammo: Decent weapon selection with an interesting variety of mods. HOWEVER, you never can carry enough ammo. 90 rounds at the most for assault rifles and submachine guns, 200 rounds for light machine guns. NOT ENOUGH AMMO!!! I am constantly having to swap my weapons for a dead enemy's weapon just so I can keep enough ammo to fight on. An attempt at realism for limited carry-on capacity? Maybe, but the result for me as a gamer is complete frustration at having to drop a weapon I like in order to pick up one I don't care for just because it has ammo.

    6) Missions: Frustrating. Looks more like an attempt to make an interactive movie than a good game. If they made this story a movie (and it was handled by ANYONE other than the people who had a hand in this game), I would go see it. The outnumbered situations with impossible odds doesn't bother me. What DOES bother me is the limited movement within level with terrible and ineffective friendly AI.

    7) Developer Suggestions: Don't try to fix this one...it is too broken. There is no amount of patching that can save this game. If you want the story and the idea to carry on, change the name of the game, modify the story enough to pass as something new, and start from ground zero. I would like to know what engine they used, if it was proprietary, it shows. If it was a mainline engine such as Quake Engine, it was a buffoonish handling of it. Take some queues from games like Call of Duty, World At War and newer if you want a linear Single Player Campaign. I like open-world games like Borderlands, Grand Theft Auto, and the like. I hate feeling caged in because it robs credibility from the realism. Sorry, but try again.

Final Thoughts: I you read this far, you should already know that my suggestion is: Don't waste your money...go rummage in someone's garbage if you want to find this game, or wait for a yard sale 2 months down the road and pick it up for $0.50 if you want your blood pressure to rise and are masochistic.

I didin't know what to expect when i first bought this game. Never played the demo (maybe because it didin"t even have one!!) And now i know that this is a complete waste of money! Everything about this game is BAD.
The only reason that i rated this a 2 is because the multiplayer is pretty fun for a while.

The beginning is uncreative, just casually showing you what happened in the last 30 years as if your watching the history channel. the game does a poor job introducing the main character of the story, and quickly nudges you through until out of no where some unknown rebels help you, and drag you to a secret base, so basically the game doesnt give any detail or background to any of the characters. the game is also extremely predictable. Its pretty bad when your 5 year old cousin knows whats coming up next. rpg explodes here, trigger happy guy goes crazy there, grenade flies in and kills half your guys here...very little creativity went into this game, period. also did i mention that it looks like a 8 year old made the graphics of this thing? seriously, the graphics in mario are better. And finally, IT ONLY HAS ABOUT 3 HOURS OF GAMEPLAY....WHAT!! i feel like i was playing the demo instead of playing the game. overall, homefront is one of the worst games ive played in awhile, possibly that i have ever played. the only reason i am even giving it a point is i like the concept, too bad it was horribly executed.. All this talk of a great storyline and it being penned by John Milius, what a gimmick seems more likely that he wrote a paragraph on a napkin and these monkeys tried to turn it into a game. There was also alot of talk about how the vehicle controls are going to be with beginner, intermediate, and ace settings. Novel idea except when you can somehow throw away all decent helicopter physics, last time I checked choppers didn't have a forward and reverse gear as well as an up and down. Not to mention the rudder and strafe are mixed up and the tilt of the helicopter has literally nothing to do with movement. Gotta love it when they can take a vehicle that operates off a stick, and consolize so much that its completely useless to use a stick. Seems as if Kaos failed physics class as there is no decent physics work to be seen. Multiplayer is pretty generic nothing groundbreaking except the amount of invisible walls or the fact the server browser is one of the worst I've ever had the displeasure to use. Nothing like joining a server with 24 people only to find out the server is actually empty. These high reviews seem to come from the ones who will buy whatever comes out next because its put in-front of them, with no real expectations of improvement. I wanted this game to be great but sad to say it wasn't even close to what was hyped. Maybe buy it if its under $5 buy it, but then again you'd get more out of the dollar menu. Expand

The game was OK, nothing ground breaking. What killed it for me was technical issues. Excessive screen tearing and artifacting at high resolutions and max settings, even with the latest drivers and every known fix, still made the game almost unplayable. I've never had technical issues this bad with a game before. I am an A+ certified technician so I do know what I'm doing technical wise.

I thank the piratebay, for allowing me to sample the SP before i poured my money into it for the full game. Because i dont know what i could possibly do with the Disc and case that wouldve been worth the 60 dollars i wouldve paid. setting a disc and case on fire isnt something id pay 60 bucks for.

But heres WHY. Its the same old shallow gameplay mechanics from COD, once they and most of the FPS genre adopted it, in the worst format ive seen, it has the shortest campaign ive ever seen on a FPS.....or ANY game for that matter, it has bugs bursting from the seams, and its a wonderful thing this game didnt sell well. THQ lost BIG bucks on this game, and rightfully so. With that ad campaign that showed it as another best seller, then delivering this worthless pile of super-discount-bin material, they deserve it. its not all bad though. At least it will show companies what churning out something as awful as this will end up earning them, especially after that phony ad campaign.

The multiplayer on console was good, it was rather balanced, and never seemed unfair, a few years ago... Now on to PC multiplayer as of 2015:

My score 1/10 reflects this most of all because as with any shooter it's the MP that gives a game longevity and weight. Firstly, this game has no more developer nor publisher support - it is done. What you see is what you get. And you get what the fan-run server gives you; though the servers are VERY few with no more that 30-odd players on at peak times in the EU.

A typical game involves spawning, and getting shot. Or, it involves you running forward, and getting shot. You have to realise that elite players have been playing a long time, and they are maxed-out, know the maps very well, and use only the best weapons - yes obviously some are much better than others and remember, no updates nor patches will change anything ever again.

All you are left with is a grind - a grind to get somewhere near the top alongside the other elite players. Be prepared to be slaughtered by certain players who are often on, and be prepared to have to work very hard to take pleasure in this.

In the past, the console versions were great. But this leftover, unmoderated, with no more patches nor balance fixes game, is quite simply rubbish unless you are one of those elite players enjoying farming uneccessary XP from you.

The controls actually feel as if they were tweaked for the PC. You can literally grab a SMG and do short burst and hit someone's head meters away with only a few pixels to target.

Overall this has long been overdue for the FPS PC gamers, I normally never right reviews and this is in fact my first one.

bottom line, If you like BF2, COD4, there's a good chance you'll cherish the fine work the CHAOS team did.

When I heard THQ was developing another game I was hoping for a sequel without the glitches, lag, etc. Like many of you I was checking the status of this greatly anticipated game on youtube and various other websites for all the information I could get. When the release date was set I began counting down the days only to have it pushed back again and again. "Okay" I thought, I'd rather see a delay then for them to release a game of poor quality. I was wrong, regrettably very wrong! Homefront could have been great; Homefront could have been ground breaking both in premise and game play. Like I said earlier; Frontlines was fantastic, so good in fact the "Big Guys"copied ideas from it such as drones etc. The battle point system was a welcome addition instead of kill streaks which more than likely will and should be copied by other developers. The single player is way to short, the graphics are average to say the least while the movement of your character is like he has a twenty pound dump in his pants! His movements are slow, methodical not at all crisp or sharp like other FPS games. Multiplayer is a joke, that's if you can get in a game at all, joining friends is virtually impossible. It went from dedicated servers to P2P because they underestimated the online attraction; they're in the gaming industry right? MP is what many people play day in and day out and these guys are not prepared? All 16 player games will now be hosted on P2P not dedicated. Make no mistake; multiplayer is a camper / sniper haven which kills it right off the bat, the weapon selection is poor and the fact you can't add more than one attachment to your weapon is a joke. No sight and silencer combo WTF? Why Not? All the while your character is still running around with that dump in his pants! Overall this game is a failure in every way possible, with such high hopes it pales in comparison to other FPS games past or present. I mean really THQ what were you thinking? To add insult to injury if you buy used or rent you have to pay 10 bucks to play online past level 5! This was done of course to prevent people from just renting the game and also brings in a few extra bucks to boot. Like paying 60 dollars for this crap wasn't enough THQ. Put your greedy little hands back in your pockets and try developing a game we were all hoping you would! Save your money and rent if you must. Don't spend 60.00 or even 20.00 for this game, soon enough it will be in the bargain bin or on ebay for 8.00 to 10.00 dollars. Complete and utter fail THQ you should be embarrassed and ashamed! The gamers have spoken and we're not going to take this anymore it's unacceptable, a patch for this, a download for that, a quick fix for the other thing. When are you developers going to get it right? Its no wonder your stock dropped 25 percent the day of release! Thats our way of saying "Congratulations on a job well done" Expand

But in my opinion, that really backfired on them because the things they use to TRY to make me feel sorry for the americans in A GAME, are the things they are doing right now to other countries IN REAL.
Ok, got that out of my system :D
Now for the gameplay, most of the 2 missions i got to play were dragged on by cut scenes and waiting for an enemy to pass 2 meters in front of you without seeing you. And when you Finally get to play a little, the controls are buggy aiming is slow to respond, movement feels like you are superman on holiday casually floating in the air with a gun stuck on your face.
In short, it has a bad story, fails to make you feel anything for anyone, because face it, if you let your continent get invaded by sea so easily, then you probably deserve it. Its a game that you forget about it 5 minutes after you stop playing it, all i can still remember about it at this point(1 day after playing) are some videos taken from real life but even in those i'm not sure what they were talking about.

It's a bad first person shooter, where enemies take 2 bullets to get killed, and you take it one clip like Rambo then just hide behind a wall and eat dirt to regenerate health (Let's say in the plot maybe that's why USA got invaded ... for it's great health regenerating dirt, in which case the enemy did a bad job with all of them wearing helmets making it impossible for them to take advantage of that)

This game is nothing but a steaming pile of hot garbage. The tepid attempts to try and add "tension" or "emotion" to the game is tossed out the window due to arenas with noticeable spawn points, characters you couldn't care less about, and a boring, piss poor story. The multiplayer was a horrid example of what a multiplayer should be. From "random" spawn points (in the same spot) and camp sites (pretty much with outhouses and firepits already built in) you will spend most of your experience watching the respawn screen due to the amount of sniper fire that happens the second you show back up. We use this game as a joke amongst our gaming group as what not to do with a game, spending anything more than 5$ on this game is still a rip off, the hype behind it also created what we call "getting homefronted" now.
"wow, i year a lot of good things about this game, lots of reviews before the game is launched...somebody spent a lot of money on advertising"
    "probably going to get homefronted"

Bottom line, dont even waste your time, you could be doing better things with your time than playing this STD on my steam account. Synchronized vomiting, rash sculpting, and freestyle suicide comes to mind

A terrible game with no characters worth remembering that gunned down so many civilians in the cheapest and easily worst attempt to pull emotion from the player I have experienced in any game.

Absolute piece of stinky stinky cr*p. Good thing I pirated it instead of buying it. I do hope that I am one of the reasons the publisher went bankrupt, but that's probably not true.

I got this game for 8.00$ because of steam sale, and its still not worth it a single bit. I started out with the single player, which started out well. A couple cliches, but its forgivable because its pretty unique. The story made me want to play.

However, the first problem arose, no sound. The entire game was muted, which isn't too bad since I usually put on music while I play. Then I
I got this game for 8.00$ because of steam sale, and its still not worth it a single bit. I started out with the single player, which started out well. A couple cliches, but its forgivable because its pretty unique. The story made me want to play.

However, the first problem arose, no sound. The entire game was muted, which isn't too bad since I usually put on music while I play. Then I found problem number 2; the subtitles rarely worked. Only every couple minutes would there be random subtitles, obviously not enough to keep up with the story. It was as if the people coding the the subtitles gave up because of too many errors.

But whatever, I'm not that much of a story guy anyway. But the game forces you to go through painfully boring cinemas, which don't have sound or subtitles, and to make it worse. The cinema scenes are all of people talking.

The producers also make sure you dont just idle to let the scenes roll through, they make sure that you have to do dull stuff too. Like sprint for 30 seconds to make sure this isn't your first video game ever, then you have to wait 30 secs *for the soldiers to pass by* then sprint another 30 seconds, then wait another 30 ect.
The game tries so hard to make a emotional and realistic scenario, then completely **** on it by telling you that an entire korean army division dies to 3 rebels. I promptly gave up after being forced to listen (without sound or subtitles) to a random guy I dont know / didnt bond with for longer than two minutes.

After having such a negative experience I looked online to see what other people said, which was that multiplayer is a redeeming quality. So I decide sure, why not? I join a game and immediately get killed by who knows? Then I respawn, take two steps and see a little robot, which I shoot a good half-clip in before it turns around and kills me with two shots. I start using several different classes, alternating every time in not killed within 10 seconds.
After an hour, I finally tried all 6 classes, just to realize everyone only uses two; Assault and Sniper. Both of which I didn't have good weapons since I was still a noob. I got two kills in a row and got a barrage of random messages telling me I got 350 BP, 2430 GM, 100 PTV, 8008 SS. I have no clue what they mean, or how to use them. I finished one extremely painful hour long game, and level up once, which unlocked the tank, which I couldn't use because you need to get 20 kills in a row to get it. I'm sure you've seen everyone complain about the hitboxes so I'm not going to bother. Doom 1 has better hitboxes.
Now, I know im not the best at FPS's, but I know im not bad. I manage quite well because I buy every new fps that comes out. But I was left astonished at how clueless I was at how to do anything.

But one of the worst sins is the fact that you can buy weapons, forcing you to either spend even more money, or not be able to have fun in multiplayer. This game is universally bad, every aspect of it is crappy, I see no reason why you would get this game over Halo 1. The single player story is mind-numbingly boring (among an atrociously large number of other things), the Multiplayer is bugged, hacked, unfair, and stupendously mean to new players.
Hands down, this game is the worst game I've ever had the misfortune of playing, I would rather play Twilight:The game than this piece of garbage. I wouldnt even recommend buying it on ebay for a dollar, I feel like this game owes me money.

Worst and unfinished story, bulls**t dialogue and deaths, f**k KPA concept and Korean language, awful and terrible AI difficulty. Gameplay is terrible. I feel so rage and anger while I play this game. Don't buy this. This is the worst game than Dark Souls and Roguelikes. Instead of this game, play Crysis 1 and kill these KPA. PS. The lucky one is I played the crack version of this game.

I have a hard time recommending the PC version of Homefront. It's a decent game with a unique take on world events, and its fresh and fun new ideas for two-mode, bot-less, online only multiplayer kept me coming back long after I'd waved adieu to the single-player portion, but the performance and playability on this platform is far eclipsed by the stability found on consoles.

Very short but intense firefight shows not a very cheerful vision of the near future for North America. Game story is excellent but playability loses because of over-scripting. [Issue#203]

It's dreadfully average and far too quickly finished, providing nothing more than the most basic type of fun on the first run-through and little incentive to revisit. Not because it's broken; just because it's boring.
