An occasionally fun but extraordinarily shallow experience.

The open world in this game is beautiful and detailed, with great graphics and decent enough performance. Although ray tracing is completely broken, at least on my PC.

That being said apart from the visuals the world feels very empty and sterile. The characters barely deserve to be described as such, the dialogue and the a lot of the voice acting are unnatural at best and most of the side quests and even a lot of the main quests feel like chores. I get that some quests involve completing tasks for classes in the game, but if they feel about a enticing as doing literal homework back in school the developers went wrong somewhere.
Occasionally the game seems to set up what could be interconnected, branching quests with intriguing premises, only for them to resolve after getting x thing from x place with two lines of placeholder dialogue never to be mentioned again. I think a pretty good early example is a student inviting you to an illegal dueling club after you beat him in a spell duel in class. Sounds rather intriguing right? Definitely some potential for an interesting narrative here right? Except all that happens is you go there, win 3 duels against random people, have an NPC tell you that you did well and that's literally it. It's a similar story with almost every single side quest I played in the game.

The main story can best be described as straightforward and utterly unremarkable. Up to around the halfway mark you're still hoping for something to shake things up, surely some intricate plot twist is gonna unfold soon, I can't wait for the web of intrigue they're spinning to reveal itself. Unfortunately this is not the case and you eventually just resign and accept that that's simply the way the game is.
The main character also has the charisma and personality of a wet paper bag. This is further emphasized by both the female and male character's voice acting which sounds beyond phoned in. It is almost as though they were intentionally trying their hardest to not give them any sort of personality. Now if this was branching CRPG with really far reaching choices where the main character is mostly an avatar for the player to project themselves unto, I could somewhat see why they did it. In a straightforward action RPG where choices are mostly window dressing there is no excuse for it, there are just too many games that have done it better.

To some extend the game is saved by the beautiful open world and a solid combat system, but those can only get you so far and oh boy is it a slog otherwise. In a lot of ways it feels like the worst parts of the newer Assassin's Creed games with very little of the good things in them.
Overall I enjoyed my time with the game somewhat, but it's definitely the kind of game where I'd recommend watching a show on a second screen or listening to a podcast in the background while you're playing it.

This is the epitome of Ubisoft's copy-paste open-world style, complete with meaningless side quests, uninteresting NPCs, and an overwhelming number of collectibles that serve no purpose. The constant barrage of notifications is akin to a national emergency alert on your phone. Unfortunately, a neutral rating is not an option on Steam, and sadly I must give this game a thumbs down.

The poor dialogue and open-world design, leave much to be desired. Despite being somewhat enjoyable, this game is frustrating due to its missed potential.

The incredible art style is overshadowed by the lack of good design direction, ultimately leading to disappointment. This game serves as a prime example of the shortcomings of the open-world style, and its issues are indicative of a wider problem in the gaming industry. If you can't do an Elden Ring or BoTW style open world type game, don't even try.

It's clear that not every game can deliver an open world experience like Elden Ring, and those that can't should consider a different approach. Rather than filling their game with endless amounts of copy-pasted content, they should focus on delivering a simple, streamlined experience with engaging gameplay. In fact, in today's gaming landscape, the length of a game can often be more of a negative than a positive, as it serve as a proxy for the amount of copy-pasted trash content. Too often, open world games rely on the quantity of content rather than its quality, resulting in a bloated and underwhelming experience.

    Positives:

The world-building in Hogwarts and Hogsmeade is well done.
Combat is better than expected (after the initial tutorial)
The game features good music, visuals, voice acting, and atmosphere in certain areas.
Broad strokes of the story are interesting
    Open world looks amazing.

    Negatives:

The open-world content is basic and identical, with numerous copy-pasted cairn dungeons that lack variety and offer little in the way of exploration or challenge.
Combat becomes repetitive towards the latter half of the game, with few enemy types and limited customization. The stat system is flawed, with a level difference between a player and enemy making a significant difference in gameplay difficulty.
Generic and unitersting npcs with forced and unnatural dialog and most quests are explained like you are mentally retarded.
Very little enemy variety, with combat designed for boss battles, you still fight trash mobs 99% of the time.
You play the map, not the game for the majority of the game as the game encourages quick travel and following the map blindly, with too little time spent in Hogwarts.
The accessibility settings are not well designed, with a lack of options for players seeking to play without assistance.
Hogsmeade is underwhelming, with only shops and repetitive puzzles.
The player's choice of Hogwarts house has no significant impact on the game.
The game's plot would have been better suited for a regular RPG focused on Hogwarts and immediate surroundings, with a regular character experiencing Hogwarts for the first time rather than a fifth-year student who excels at everything.
The game does not offer the player any meaningful choices or the option to pursue a darker path.
No humor, nothing memorable, it's just kinda meh and forgettable.

Overall I give this a 6/10. About what you can expect from a western open world style game, with the added point for the nice harry potter atmosphere.

No he podido acabarlo al 100%.

The combat is okay, there's a good flow to it and you've got lots of options, but many of the options do essentially the same thing. The spell combo system has some fun parts, but it can get VERY repetitive. There's not a huge variety of enemy types, and they all respond in pretty much the same way. Dial the difficulty up, because it gives you a LOT of time to dodge/counter otherwise and it really makes it less fun.

The exploration is alright, but it's stuffed like a bad Ubisoft title with the collecting. Progression is pretty simple--XP gives you points in terms of HP bonuses and talents, but a few of the talents are INCREDIBLY overpowered and make everything else a bit too easy. Other than that, collecting things, finishing challenges, etc. mostly lead to cosmetic unlocks and nothing that changes gameplay.

I found the music kind of dull--it didn't have the same brightness as the film soundtracks. Graphically it was okay, but I found most of the characters fairly dull looking. It had some FPS drops and a few glitches in the inexplicable underwater sections--not even sure why those were necessary. The flying was REALLY not fun for me, and the crafting was basic.

This feels like a game that you'd buy a younger person to get them more interested in gaming, but the experience of it wasn't something I enjoyed too much.

The game gives a pretend freedom of decision through the dialogues, but in reality 99% of our answers do not affect the story. The chosen House does not affect the story, nor the personality of your character and his classmates. Not the ones by people who forgot that you're not supposed to iron the folds out of your brain and complain about wokeness and "AgeNDa", but the ones by people who actually break down the good and bad aspects of the game.

If you stripped out the Harry Potter name and theming of the game, you're left with a mediocre product at best. Once you've played the first 4 or so hours of the game, you've already experienced everything the game has to offer; the remaining 16 or so are just the first part but copy/pasted with a bit of variation.

If you just want to experience Hogwarts and have fun casting spells, this is a great game for that. If you want an immersive and interesting story, world, or characters, this falls way short. It's worth playing, but I would definitely wait until it goes on sale before picking it up.

    * Game uses Epic Online Services - the presence of this means I will never purchase the game
    * Woke / alphabet agenda with trans / crossdressing / homo content present in a number of places in the game whereby they just have to make a point of making sure you know they're gay, trans, etc. Heck, one of the side quests is seemingly designed to drum up sympathy for the crossdressing character...sigh. We need to stop enabling & encouraging so much mental illness in our culture; this is one of the key reasons so many people are on anti-depressants these days. The presence of this type of content likewise means I will never purchase a personal copy of the game
    * Awful game performance even on a high end rig with an RTX 3090 (poor optimization, effectively)
    * Even the deepest masculine voice for the character sounds like an effeminate boy
    * Once you get past the game's fantastic graphics, it's honestly kinda boring... the combat is mediocre and gets repetitive VERY quickly
    * No romance options in the game - and don't get me wrong, not saying there should be sexually explicit scenes or anything like The Witcher since this isn't an adult game, but you are playing the game as a teenager, and romantic relationships are a pretty big part of that part of a person's life - it can create dramatic situations and dynamics as well between other characters who may be competing for the same girl, etc. They could introduce this in a follow-up sequel when the main character sees some of his friends again that he developed good friendships with such as Poppy Sweeting, etc.
    * I'm admittedly baffled by the really high praise reviews; again not saying this is an awful game, but it's really nothing spectacular when you get past the graphics / animation quality and attention to the world itself. The actual game mechanics are not very impressive. It's just another open-world RPG style game like Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, etc. just in the Harry Potter universe.
    * The day / night cycle in the game is like a lot of open world games nowadays where the day cycle is way too short
    * Game feels a little dead in terms of the cast / environment and what I mean by that is while it's very pretty aesthetically, and there is a large cast of characters, they aren't really developed very well and so it feels somewhat empty. For example you might do a side quest for one character in the school, a fellow student...and you work with them on the quest and complete it. But then you never really interact with that student again despite going to school at Hogwarts every day with them. So it feels very sterile as far as the cast - you need to have fairly frequent contact with characters in order to generate a feeling for the player like they are there, and that the world really is alive. It's missing that feeling from Harry Potter movies where Harry, Ron, Hermione, etc. were frequently together working on things, and in this game you rarely see the main character with a similar group of people outside of some specific side quests.
    * Game has an exclusive quest locked down to Playstation - so chalk that up to anti-consumer behavior from the developer / publisher
    * Way too many cosmetics as the rewards for completing quests, challenges, etc. You'll complete certain challenges throughout the game, and worthless cosmetics seem to be overwhelmingly common - should have more narrative / dialogue as rewards, or something actually useful

    Pros:

    * Kudos for only giving (2) options during character creation for the Wizard / Witch and not trying to define the make-believe notion that there are more than two genders
    * Graphics are pretty darn good, they dedicated a lot of attention to detail when designing the world which is great to see. This is probably the highlight of the game
    * Lots of little events as you're walking around with things happening in the world - the animation work is fantastic by the development team. They really put monumental effort into constructing the world, and they deserve the absolute highest praise for that.
    * Relatively solid, yet nothing ground-breaking, main questline story. The end of the game sets up well for a sequel where, like the Harry Potter movies / books, the main character can return to Hogwarts for the 6th year and have more things to look forward to.

Game Length: 59 Hours - I did probably ~95% of the game. I didn't pick up all of the treausre chests, but did basically everything else - every side quest that was available, all of the Merlin Trials (quite tedious as there are like 95 of them), all of the star constellation tasks, completed the field guide, etc.

    Final Rating: 5/10.

I am about 19 hours in and maybe level 22 and while I have enjoyed some of the game, overall it is a major best part of the game is the initial roaming of Hogwarts and in the combat system. Otherwise everything seems either half baked or flat and hollow. I really think the open world aspect actually hurts this game for the most part. I’ll probably play through the main story some more and possibly to the end but mostly I’ll play because my kids enjoy it. Save your money for a deep discount one day or pass it by. Expand

Plus, the usual hand-holding, non-stop cutscenes, overly long cringe dialogue, invisible walls, pointless fetch quests that ask you to run from point A to point B and then back to point A again, main character constantly narrating what you're supposed to do, etc.

The NPCs literally tell you "check the to do list and get back to me to advance the quest".. like.. they don't even bother. The game tells the player to check the quest log, do the chores, and come back. It really feels like a rigid videogame, and a tedious one at that.

The combat is okay, and so are the puzzles.

As for the exploration, it's kinda fun if you can put aside the atrocious map you're obligated to deal with to understand where to go and/or warp. What were they thinking?! Baffingly bad.

Finally, the controls aren't very intuitive, questionable even, and for people hooked on aCcEsSiBiLiTy there's no option to remap the buttons. WHY.

All and all not the worst experience, but certainly nothing special. Constantly varies from cool little moments to extremely boring, clunky, or annoying parts.

Aren't game developers tired of playing it safe and always doing the same goddamn game that caters to the lowest common denominator?

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Hogwarts Legacy ending has you become the only Keeper, either absorbing or hiding Isidora’s magic under Hogwarts. It doesn’t matter which choice you make.

In the good ending, you hide Isidora’s magic away from the Wizarding World, hoping that no one will ever find and abuse the power for themselves. In the bad ending, you decide to use it for ‘good’, absorbing it yourself. Either way, Professor Fig meets his demise, and Ranrok is killed.

Afterwards, both endings have the school hall packed with students, hearing Professor Weasley’s eulogy of Professor Fig. However, school isn’t over just yet, and you need to complete the Hogwarts Legacy side quests and fill in your field guide to complete your O.W.Ls.

You get a secret third ending after completing reaching level 34, however, it’s just an announcement of the Hogwarts Legacy House Cup winner. Of course, the winner is whatever House you’re part of.

You're welcome. I just saved you 60 dollars.

While Hogwarts Legacy certainly lives up to the world it is set in, it fails to create a game strong in its mechanics and open world structure. In fact, the downfall of this game is that its elements are serviceable to a larger audience, therefore exceeding at nothing in particular.

Hogwarts Legacy brandishes itself as an "rpg". Technically, this is right considering the different dialogue choices and different endings. However, these "rpg" aspects are frankly disrespectful to the genre in their dullness. In most dialogue scenarios you have two options: Angel of God or complete **** Neither of which really affect anything in the game in particular. Furthermore, the dialogue in this game is actually painful to listen to, as if they found random kids on the street and held a knife at their throats while they voiced their characters. It feels so unnatural when compared to titles where good voice acting is one of the key components in their story (RDR2).

Speaking of the story, I couldn't find myself to care about any of it due to mainly the open world design and of course the dialogue. I wanted to; however, many games fall victim to a lack of urgency, especially Ubisoft titles like Far Cry. Essentially, the world is obviously in place for you to explore, however, sometimes it serves as more of distraction to the detriment of the main story. Let's say that you have to deliver some urgent goods from point A to point B. Typically, you'd believe that you have to go to Point B right away, however, no one really cares what you do and how long it actually takes you to get to point B. It's times like these where I feel like these types of game just don't take their story serious enough. Like seriously, I could not tell you anything about any story of Far Cry, AC, Horizon Zero Dawn, etc bc they do not care about strong and coherent story telling where as RDR2 and the Witcher 3 (although not perfectly) nail this idea of creating urgency on the head.

The open world itself is not good either. In fact, nothing is actually worth your time exploring the world. you will encounter all you need to see by exploring the first Region of the game and simply nothing more due to the copy and paste puzzles and areas of the map. Furthermore, the map in the game lists off all the boxes you need to check in order to complete a region, turning this fun game into a chore. This idea of copy and paste puzzles and areas of the map are downright lazy. Exploration is broken in this not only due to the repetitiveness of the map but because the loot system is awful as well.

Well, if all these parts of the game are bad surely the side quests must be good? No. They are easily the worst part of the game. Every single one of them is either go here kill this or go here, kill this, then return me this. Other, better, rpg games like Fallout NV use their side quests to either add to the main story or add to the worldbuilding. Hogwarts Legacy instead decided to implement these dry and easily replaceable side quests that could easily be implemented into any other game with very minor tweaking. You are better off ignoring the side quests altogether.

I understand I have pretty negative in my review so to clarify, what I value most in a video game is mostly strong story telling. I can overlook average gameplay/combat (Witcher 3) if the story is able to keep me engaged and wanting to play. However, this obviously wasn't the case for HL. I did, however, enjoy the combat in the game although it was stupidly easy. Being able to perform these cool combos never failed to make me feel like a badass.

As an avid HP fan, I will not deny the joy I felt getting sorted into my house for the first time and exploring Hogwarts. This initial rush of nostalgia and dopamine is easily the best area of the game. Hogwarts is beautifully crafted so much so that I'd consider one of my favorite set pieces in any game I have ever played. It is filled with secrets to uncover and areas to see from the movies and books. the game is also visually gorgeous, sometimes I sat in awe when looking at the castle from a distance.

However, when I turn around and face the rest of the map, I can't help but see a game filled with mediocrity and cut corners.

The proposal of Hogwarts Legacy is to take the fan of the Harry Potter saga to the world he fell in love with. The game gives you all the references of the books and movies, besides touching on interesting points of the secret histories of the wizarding world. The fan of the famous saga will certainly feel pleased to pay 70 dollars to enter even more prolonged into the universe of magic they have always loved. Mainly because the Harry Potter fan does not need to be a "gamer". He doesn't need to know what an "RPG" or an "action game" is, he just wants to enjoy his enchanted wand while casting an "Avada Kedavra" against an enemy. There is no problem with that. However, for the slightly more conscientious "gamer" who doesn't usually tear up money, the $70 was expensive. Anyone who has seriously played a good RPG will not be able to love Hogwarts Legacy, a work that is a kind of shoddy copy of The Witcher 3 (2015). Besides being dated in many ways (from the graphics, to the characters' expressions, to the gameplay itself), the game fails to reach the level of detail required for a AAA, even when compared to "Skyrim" (2011). It's not hard, for a "gamer" with some background, to realize how Skyrim's quest system is infinitely more consistent than that of Hogwarts Legacy. It would even be mean to compare it to Rockstar's titles. GTA V (2013) and Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018) are frighteningly more imposing, interesting and consistent than the Warner Bros. game. With several quests with puny, tiresome and/or repetitive objectives, our character almost never faces real challenges. Moreover, other premises of RPGs are neglected: the background of our character basically does not exist; our actions and choices serve no purpose, they do not make a significant impact on the world (it is not even possible to be a dark wizard!!!); our house has no influence on the story; and the most shocking of all is that the world simply does not respond to our actions. Skyrim, in 2011, introduced a "revenge" system that consisted of mercenaries trying to kill us under contract if we had murdered some loved one of some other character. And that's just one example! Hogwarts Legacy is a mediocre game that will mean little or almost nothing to gaming posterity, if not as an example of "fan service", and nothing more. It's a shame that consumers are so satisfied with so little.

If you're a big harry potter fan I'm sure you can see some joy in it, but this really wasn't it dawg.

Hogwarts Legacy is an open world action RPG released in 2023. Before the release I read an article that said that you should only buy this game if you hate transistors and jews. So you can see why I was tempted, but in the end, cooler heads prevailed and I procured the game the usual way. I am very glad that I did, for this game is the worst dump of SJW crap that I have ever seen. ButHogwarts Legacy is an open world action RPG released in 2023. Before the release I read an article that said that you should only buy this game if you hate transistors and jews. So you can see why I was tempted, but in the end, cooler heads prevailed and I procured the game the usual way. I am very glad that I did, for this game is the worst dump of SJW crap that I have ever seen. But let’s start on a positive note. First of all the graphics is very nice, animations are splendid, all seems slick and smooth and polished. The castle itself is just fantastic. A lot of work and passion obviously went into building that castle. The animated paintings are also very cool and really help to build the atmosphere of the world of magic. It is a very nice start. The menu is very clear and the game font is likeable. So far I am impressed. As far as creative writing goes, I was only somewhat impressed by the shadow questline, it is the promise of what could have been. The dark atmosphere of the Salazar Scriptorium and the simple dark heart beat like music. Wow, that is very good, I wonder what will come next. Sadly what comes next is the ugandan questline and for some weird reason I was not as invested in that one. But let’s leave the SJW aside just for a little while longer and focus on the other negatives. For me the game was just too immature. I know it may sound weird and I know that the game and the whole HP world is meant primarily for children, but still, it was too simplistic, too bleak. The school houses do not play any role, students from all houses and seemingly of all ages simply mix everywhere, even in the classes. There was not even the slightest hint of anything sexual, even though a castle full of teenagers seems like a very good place for a little romance. But it is not just the story and characters that are simplistic, the gameplay as such is also very easy, there is no challenge even on hardest difficulty, the puzzles are a joke. That particularly is a pity, for I would think that the Hogwarts castle would be a perfect place to be filled with myriads of devilishly hard and hidden puzzles. The game also really relies on the movie adaptations a lot, and that is an understatement. If there is a Herbology class scene, of course you repotting Mandrakes. And it is like that with everything in this game. However I understand why that is so, because whenever the creators were forced to actually create something new by themselves, they created something bleak and uninteresting, something that did not fit the world of HP at all. The lighting in this game also needs some more work I would say. And finally we arrive at the SJW. It is truly ever present and so intrusive that it made me want to stop playing immediately a couple of times and at other times it was just so laughably clumsy and awkward. The innkeeper is the obvious example, but there is so much more, all the lesbians, Fatimas and other minorities. A NPC actually says: A gentleperson and a scholar, as if that is the most natural phrase that everyone uses. Wow. And what is best is that all this is supposed to be set in the 1800s, which makes it all the more bizarre. Why would you want to set your game in the 1800s when you also want to fill it with the demographics of 2023 London? Nobody even tries to speak like it is the 1800s. Ridiculous. Oh, and of course, you need to be educated on yet another matter. The bad guys are not only racists (obviously), but many are also poachers. You know, hunters, gun owners and meat eaters. The animals themselves are pretty likeable and fluffy and cool, true, but that cannot save this game, not in my eyes. I finished the game in about 50 hours on a PC playthrough. In the end, I could not be bothered to finish all the generic secondary quests and collections. This game features microtransactions and is riddled with SJW to a ridiculous point. To me this is immorality, this is depravity, this is abomination.

Is this the best HP game of all times? Probably, although that is not saying much. Do not get me wrong, the game does have its moments. Like when the boggart takes the form of a random black man. Talk about the magic of the unwanted. Final verdict: 44%

exploration is very boring, it's all the same: hundreds of tiny treasure caves, but there's only ~5 puzzles you need to solve to get the reward and they are pretty easy
you have so little enemies... it's so easy to defeat them even on very hard settings, spells are fun tho - almost the only good part about this game, but you can defeat every enemy with 2-3 spells, again, the game is to easy
    graphics is very nice though

I like the graphics, not because it's something next-gen or it looks like cyberpunk but because it gives me a fairytale feeling.
The intro was something I didn't expect. From the first minute we have action, some kind of mystery,death..
Music which have some sounds from the films and give you some nostalgic feeling.
    Char editor is good.

    What I not like.
The npc are all the same without their own character except sebastian who has the potential to became something like mini voldemort. They are no one who will bothering us like malfoy or Snape. Everybody is ohhh the new one help me you are the only one who can do it.
The spell and how you learn them. You going to the class and you expect to something inside it not just press 1 2 buttons and learn a new skill or go do this and came back to me. If I do everything outside the school why am I going on class? Some spells are the same with a little difference and you learning them all in the first hour of the game because you need them for the stupid side quests which you need them to open skins and buff something.
The missions are the same and the whole story are boring. I played 20 hours trying to find all the chest, to find this or that or open doors to get some clothes to get some more exp for my lvl but this is useless. Clothes with bigger stats are dropped all the time. Your lvl doesn't count in battles because they are chaotic. 10 goblins are firing and teleport at you at the same time and you must press O all the time and try to levitate the half of them to can kill the other half.
    Collect animals is useless.
There is no mystery, no jokes, no hate, this is a game for kids between 12 and 18 who never played games like witcher, dragon age, skyrim or even the old HP games. BUT the kids this age doesn't know the HP universe so good like us who are 28 29 30 yo. The grow up with marvel, pubg, fortnite and tiktok. So for who is this game made for?
I crying for my money and I happy I found the game cheaper and didn't pay the whole price.

I thought it would have some intricate combat system with complex combos with this being a game about magic attacks and spells but it’s literally just a mash fest. Spam the attack button and block when the indicator pops up. It’s so incredibly terrible. I regret buying this game. The only good part was the visuals and the world of hog warts itself. The story is a bit mid for a game based off the Harry potter universe they could've done a lot but decided to play it safe, the game is a 12 rated and it really feels like it, constantly reminding you what to do in puzzles with cringe dialog as well as hand holding throughout the story which becomes tiresome. I do not like the trials either which is the core of the story they are generic and boring.

Outside of the story there's your standard AAA fluff, trials, caves, puzzles, monsters den's etc. Very few monster types here though which is a shame considering the material they had to work from. There's a Pokémon mode that I'm not a fan of as the animals look ridiculous like something out of a 90s Disney movie. The flying is one of my favourite parts of the game, but as soon as the story starts they tell you quidditch is not in the game, you can tell the Devs ran out of time on that one because the quidditch pitch has been moddled to a very high detail, seems odd to have done that but no official mode for it

Edit: I'm lowering my score to a 4 since the Devs have failed to fix performance issues on pc after multiple patches and since the old gen versions are soon to release I highly doubt these will be resolved soon. Such a shame, all I wanted to do was explore hogwarts in high fidelity without bugs, maybe next year the game will be playable.

The rest however is pretty uninspired, it's a generic open world flooded with map markers, nothing really exciting to find and stupid chores. That's also where the focus of the game is - You are out in the wild murdering millions of goblins and people, you are rarely at Hogwarts and if you are you are mostly doing fetch quests for incapable NPCs or speedrunning classes. Nothing you do has any consequence whatsoever and there aren't any real choices. A lot of mechanics are in the game, although they are all too shallow for my taste. The game feels a lot like Ubisoft made this. Looks great, especially at the start but is so shallow and boring underneath that really makes it just average. The dungeons are very uninspired, every cave I've found leads to exactly one treasure chest. Loot is boring, everything is just average.

    - You can't even sleep at your Dorm. Can't sit or do other simple actions.
    - Character creation is EXTREMELY limited. You can only pick between presets. All MCs look the same. White complexion choices are limited. Majority are Black/Philippino/Asian/Indian.
    - The Character Creation character doesn't match the in-game character you see. It looks like the facial rig is bugged. All presets look the same in-game. Where is the "make any character you want" they advertised?
    - In-game character models look like PS2 era graphics.
    - Students and faculty disappear from existence at night. Students are not even at their Dorms. Hogwarts is just empty dead.
    - No curfew at night. You can enter the Restricted Section of the Library and nobody is there to stop you. It's just an abandoned castle. All NPCs disappear!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've come back to this rating after trying at it again. I regret doing so. It is a very bad game filled with very bad characters and quests. I really do not understand why people think it is so good. If it was possible, I would score this game negatively. Lots of bugs. A very boring start where you literally go to school and sit through dull and overly eager lessons. Massive and very unnecessary woke liberal assault at certain points of the game (some things JK Rowling is on record being opposed to and its her world. She made this world and whether you like her writing or opinions or not, changing somebody else's art is plain wrong). Quests are classic fetch and tell somebody about it stuff. Why is the only way to get xp by completing certain quests?!?! Not killing anything or learning new things. This removes so much interest and makes things more linear, a stupid decision. Limited inventory and itemisation so far, this feels rushed and incomplete. So many options that could have existed were lost. Why is everybody kind of nice? You can't become a power hungry crazy guy at all and I thought that was one of the things about RPGs. Be good, bad or indifferent is a key aspect. Why are there not gangs in Hogwarts? Groups of people who team up as friendships and have rival friendships? Why is bullying apparently normal and you can't do anything about it apart from fetch the bullied kids silly marbles? Why not have an option to go and have a little chat with the older kids of mistreat her. OR join them?!? Where is the gore? So much to complain about and for that much money it's really not good. I am not a HP fan, didn't really like the books, read a third of one and then put it down. Didn't enjoy the films much either. What I do like is RPGs and what I do respect is the original artist. This game fails at both. Expand

You can't choose between "good" and "bad" sides, although there are Curses and Dark Arts in the game... lol, yeah you can even use Avada Kedavra as a 15yo student. But you are still getting pipelined by a plot. Even House choice doesn't matter, there's no rivalry between houses, no intrigues, nothing.

It has an open world, yet it's too generic and empty, no variety of enemies is present, it's more like Ubisoft games-styled grinding for a sake of grinding. And some quests are level locked so the game forces you to grind stuff at some point.

Combat is okay, but not like "hard" or anything, it's basically LMB spam, abilities spam (with CD being the only limit, no mana in game) and dodge/block spam with laughable CD and no stamina being present in game either!

NPC are more like furniture, you can't interact with them, hit them, or get punished for anything. Feels unnatural and ruins the immersion. Side quests they give you is the most generic "go there, fetch this, kill 15 wolves" stuff you'd imagine.

If you are a very casual gamer, and/or die-hard HP universe fan, then you'll enjoy this game for sure. Otherwise try Bully Scholarship Edition, it's light years ahead "schoolboy sim" game compared to HL.

-Most secondary missions are so boring they hurt.
-Puzzles sections are sometimes ok, sometimes so obvious! And of course if you don't solve them in 1 minute the main character will say something that tells you what to do so no brain required at all.
-Combat is so and so. It is challenging and perhaps someone will like it.

After 5 to 6 hours I don't find myself wanting to play anymore. The world is massive and curated but I don't want to visit it because there is nothing interesting to do.

Awful game design and controls. Huge pack of spells and only 4 keys for binding. Ok, you have sets of spells but they don't cover all spells anyway.
And why the character step forward each time when casts?
Broom control is even more painful. You can't control camera and look up and down. Sure Avalanche, this feature during flight is totally unnecessary. Good job. Moreover all characters

I read harry potter when I was in High School so I imagine that I am a part of the target demo for this game. That being said, I am also a gamer; and this game is pretty damned MID. Not to mention all of the hand holding that doesn't go away even by the time you make it to the late parts of the game. The game doesn't even really do a good job of recreating the magic of being a part of the hogwarts world. You start as a 5th year, and you don't get to take the train... You don't get to specify if you are a Muggle born or a Pure blood, you just are dropped into this story that really isn't all that interesting and are forced to play it out in a somewhat linear fashion. Being in a different house only really effects a couple NPC dialogue options and a single quest in the game (and the obvious stuff like your common room). The classes you take don't really feel like classes as much as they feel like tutorials for the 12 different spells in the game. Nothing in this game is unique or innovative and it seems to try to use its source material as nostalgia bait to try to hide that fact. The Performance of this game is a mess. Even with my very powerful computer; I had crashes and I lost my save file data more than a few times (I had to make multiple copies of each save to prevent losing my progress). FPS would randomly drop in certain areas while in others I would get a consistent 120 FPS (And the FPS wouldn't drop again in the same areas which made it seemingly random). The facial expressions in this game are absolutely ugly as hell; I had to remake my character twice because of how creepy they turned out looking in the cutscenes. This game could have been something really special but its just another mediocre movie game that also has terrible performance. If you are a die hard potter fan, you might enjoy this; but if you just want a good game, look somewhere else.

By far the worst performance I've experienced in a pc game. I'm using 2070 super, 16gb ram and 6 core and still have 5-10 fps drops and some parts of the game are unplayable. Beautiful world but no substance.
Another open world collect-athon with no emotion. All the criticism towards this game seems to be oriented towards the main protaonist low-energy soulless performance. So let me point out another huge fault that somehow avoided the attention of the intellect of most of the players.

The dialogues. I could not tell you how blank it is. No one seems to care about anything. Someone dies, let's just forget about that in a second. You just experienced a life threatening situation... that must've been awful, how's your tea by the way? Every character acts as non-offensive as possible, to the extent that their actions or reactions make no sense, which makes up for the most flat and boring dialogues I've ever seen in a game. And let me tell you, this time even the bad guys are flat as a plank. In the mind of Moira Squier a bad person means simply a rude jerk.

Gameplay is ok. A formula that has been here since skyrim, slightly twisted to fit the setting. The game is a looker and a nice virtual tour for the fans of the films. Yet, it will kill off the rest of your brain cells in the proicess.

Some conversations are disgusting and uncomfortable and definitely some people forced this ideology into the game. Games dont need this type of **** Gameplay is ok. One thing im not happy is extremely long time needed to start exploring freely. You get access to some content after many hours of storyline.

    Edit:
After 30hrs of playing i can tell you there are so boring side activities, only timewasters. Too long animation scenes that extened gameplay. 90% of Hogwarts teachers/shop vendors/ other npcs in this game are some colorful rainbow indians/africans/chinesee/japanesee. I have no immersion to british 19th century or HP world at all. Even side quest about tritons in the lake smells with this ****

One good thing is i dont encounter any bugs etc playin on 3080 and ryzen.

Beautiful, cozy and incredibly detailed, Hogwarts Legacy suffers from overabundance of side activities that offer no story, substance or good gameplay. [page 42]

The success of Hogwarts Legacy clearly shows that good sales and warm feedback from players are ensured not so much by the gameplay thought out to the smallest detail but by carefully reproducing the right atmosphere. But this is already a subtle moment, akin to real magic, and here the nameless developers of Avalanche Software succeeded.

Hogwarts Legacy is an altogether excellent port of Wizarding World to PC screens. It proudly belongs to the Young Adult fiction genre, which may make immersion difficult for older gamers.
