This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The sequel to Hiveswap is out, and it's pretty cool!! There are some amazing parts of the game, such as the soundtrack, which is very colorful and silly, while also great at setting the tone. I still have ticket to ride stuck in my head lol. The soundtrack was done by the amazingly skilled James Roach and Toby Fox!

The graphics are also not as good as the first game. Something about the homey aspects of Dammek's Hive and Half-Harley Manor gave some cool vibes to the game, that aren't fully present in Hiveswap Act 2. The game felt very 2 dimensional, with it being in perfect straight lines the whole game. That however is not the whole story. Character sprites are excellent in the game, and each character has a lot of polish..

It also didn't hook me like the first game had game play wise. The items are fairly useless this time around, typically serving less as puzzle tools, and more as "person bluntly asked to trade for said items". I would have liked to see more Strifing in the game, the Conductor Strife was great, Azdaja's strife was also alright. The Trial was also fun, but it was just a little too-long for me, and it was also pretty un-intuitive. It seems that their intention was to wow us with dialogue however, which was a very good part of the game! The characters are all very charming and fun, even when they're antagonists! :o)

The ending was also, uhh... not good :(. You'll have to play it for yourself, but honestly seeing that cliffhanger made me worried, especially if we have to wait another 3 years for a sequel, especially after the last game and Friendsim AND Pesterquest had cliffhangers. (I guess it's arguable that pesterquest wasn't a cliffhanger but i digress). Anyways, it is all for storytelling, but it sucked doing all that work only to have a literal bombshell drop on the ending.

All in all I would say that it's worth the buy! Even if this one wasn't the best in the series, it was still quite good! Excited to see what else what pumpkin can make!

This game was a very pleasant experience!
Some things of note, including good things, bad things, and a bunch of other things in between
    - Great Soundtrack - Charming visuals - Great characters - Fun puzzles - Great characters - Much longer than the first act (about 7 hours compared to 3). However, the pacing is a much spottier than in the first one. There are no parts that i found

    - There is a fairly large section of the game that is heavily inspired by the ace attorney games. Although i found it fun, it definitely wont be everybody's cup of tea. It has little to do with the overall plot, and takes up about about a third of the game.
    - I am understanding with the games spotty pacing though, as it allows joey to get familiar with the basic structure of alternain society, which will in turn likely lead to more genuine characterization later on.
    - Noticeably lower stakes than the first act

Overall, i found this game very enjoyable, with occasional rough patches. It is definitely worth your time and money, and im hopeful for how act 3 will turn out.

After three years of development, Hiveswap: Act 2 is just fine. Hopefully the next instalment is stronger and will come earlier than 2023, but we’ll have to wait and see.
