    It takes quite some time to get into the game and a lot of it will be spent loading saved games, but once you're over that stage, Hired Guns offers a lot of fun. The game feels like a graphically enhanced Jagged Alliance 2, which isn't bad - quite the opposite. Hired Guns has its weaknesses, but is appealing nontheless.

    Technically this is one noteworthy game, and it has a lot of customizing options for our troops, but the rest of the elements are not equally achieved.

    Hired Guns: Jagged Edge is only a copy of Jagged Alliance 2. And not a very good copy. The balancing in the game is awful and the graphics are bad. Fans should play the original and not the poor copy.

    Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge fails to achieve what it set out to do. It wanted to be a hugely tactical but still engaging squad-based affair, but the long-winded combat is boring and anything but tactical, while the audio is sure to drive you to turn the volume down and put some music on instead.

    If the difficulty levels were sorted, the turn-based combat system rehashed and the player was told with reasonable conviction what the hell is going on, Hired Guns could be quite enjoyable, but as it is it's a frustrating, indecisive, low-level strategy game.

    The depth    This is a very obvious remake of Jagged Alliance. Internally, you will even find the mercenary names of Ivan, Fidel, Shadow, Fox...

    The depth of the tactical combat is somewhat reduced from even the unmodded Jagged Alliance 2. While the mercs and equipment have perks / stats for visibility and loudness, these seem to have no practical purpose in the game. The english translation of this russian game is very painful to read and worse to listen to. They did not even bother to use a grammar-capable spellchecker and boy will you wish they had.

    Often the game is terribly unfair, like when you start on a very small map and 3 enemy soldiers are in range to shower you with grenades. And they get the first turn when they see you which is almost a given on the smallest maps. Never mind that every single NPC in the game has a perfect strength score of 100 so they can throw grenades easily as far as your initial weapons will reach. In short, this is Jagged Alliance LIGHT.

    A score of 7 may sound kind but the core gameplay works. No surprise there, seeing that it's a carbon copy of Jagged Alliance. The translation of ALL written text in the game is so bad I found it funny. Substract 2 points if you have no such tolerance for that. It is that bad.    … Full Review »
