Good graphics and entertaining missions but somewhat short.
-
Total PC GamingFlying at an altitude combat flight sim aficionados will appreciate. [Issue#26, p.53]
-
PC Zone UKProvides a simple, but pleasing action experience, with a refreshingly polished veneer. [Dec 2009, p.74]
-
Multiplayer modes are limited, though the dogfights and team battles for up to 16 players are still quite fun. It's satisfying taking down an enemy plane when you know there's a human cursing you out from his burning cockpit on the other end.
-
PC PowerPlayRepetitive and lacking in depth, but good solid fun while it lasts. [Dec 2009, p.59]
-
PC Gamer UKThe closest thing HoE has to a distinguishing feature is something called the 'ace kill.' [Dec 2009, p.105]
-
It may be a simple game with unspectacular graphics, a thin story and an out-of-date presentation, but it's still good enough to be played occasionally. If you liked Blazing Angels, you can't go wrong with Heroes over Europe.
-
Heroes over Europe can't deny its roots as a console game - especially in terms of controls. The real downfall for this title though are the missions which seem endless - despite the fact, that the game is actually rather short.
-
Game InformerStrange missteps abound in Heroes Over Europe, but glimmers of fun WWII arcade flight shooting shine through from time to time. [Oct 2009, p.90]
-
Heroes over Europe is an enjoyable and entertaining title during the first hours, but in the long run it becomes increasingly repetitive and limited in its gameplay experience.
-
The single player missions can be fun, but it's short lived even when you're rewarded with new planes that don't vary that much from the last plane you just flew.
-
For all it offers in terms of forgiving controls, it lacks in diversity of handling across the available plane models, making the tedium of its mission goals and awkwardness of its special attack features all the more pronounced.
-
As an arcade blaster it does a reasonable job, but repetition ensures that even the ridiculous-but-fun Ace Kills get old quickly.
-
If you are a simulation fan, then Heroes Over Europe is definitely not for you. However, if just like to have fun with a decent action game, you will be happily surprised as the use of bullet time and the breathtaking challenges hundreds of meters in height will be almost worth the while.
-
Heroes Over Europe is a good “arcady” flight sim and what it lacks in realism it makes up for in sheer entertainment. It’s a bit too short though, but still a great buy for gamers who love dog fights and air to ground combat.
-
LEVEL (Czech Republic)Too easy for experienced virtual pilots though Heroes over Europe can offer good action with fast paced arcade dogfights high in the skies for all FPS fans. [Nov 2009]
-
If you're a PC gamer that is a bit intimidated by IL-2 Sturmovik and are sick of playing H.A.W.X., then Heroes Over Europe might be worth a look. If you're expecting it to completely fulfill your air combat needs though, you'll be disappointed.
-
PC FormatThere may not be many air combat games around these days, but that's no excuse for picking up this lukewarm offering. [Dec 2009, p.58]
-
It's a disappointment to see a promising series end in this way, especially now that Transmission Games is no longer around to potentially fix issues in a sequel. Flight sim fanatics who are eager to take a break from reality and fly around in an action-packed arcade shooter on the PC may still want to give Heroes Over Europe a whirl. They'll just have to put up with its sometimes annoying characters, its total disregard for realism, and its lack of basic gauges and indicators.
-
Heroes Over Europe is a stripped down game and will be fairly forgotten with all the great games coming out this fall. Only the die-hard WWII and airplane fans will find this a great game to fly with the Spitfire or the Messerschmitt. The rest of the world will find this game very disappointing and probably won’t be interested. The missions are mostly the same and aren’t very exiting. The Ace Kills can be taken out of the game, and the game is not very pretty.
