The title takes everything that has ever been great about the series and elevates it to the next level. The changes revitalize the Heroes formula and provide more strategic gameplay than the series has ever offered.
-
HOMM4 will infect you with what I like to call the "Turn Based Sickness." Symptoms include loss of temporal perception and inability to perform other functions (including bodily) until "just one more turn" has been completed.
-
HMM4 present a great combination of the old addictive gameplay, a new spell, combat and hero system and perfectly designed 2D isometric (the so-called 2½D) graphics, inspiring music and magical atmosphere which kept me glued to the screen constantly for thirty hours until I finished the first of the ten campaigns.
-
Frankly, this game is heroin to its fans. Though seemingly simple, its complex depth will lead to many lost hours.
-
With tons of new features and careful attention given to the original formula, the series remains one of the best in the genre.
-
If you liked the first three games in the series, youre going to love Heroes of Might and Magic IV.
-
Game InformerA well-tuned engine firing on all cylinders. [June 2002, p.84]
-
It's really to New World Computing's credit that the developer was able to incorporate so many new and interesting features into this sequel while still making sure it kept all the core elements that made all the previous games so great.
-
The great balance and fabulous background of the game are simply outstanding.
-
While I dont think Heroes of Might and Magic IV is as good as "Heroes of Might and Magic III," its a game you can easily spend a month on, and there is enough variety in the game for it to be an entertaining month.
-
It took 3 years but it was worth the wait.
-
It plays almost like a new game, but with soothing familiarity that fans of the series will no doubt appreciate.
-
It is clear what each building and item does once you are familiar with them. If you ever forget, right clicking over anything on the world map gives a brief description. Did I mention how much I enjoy this feature?
-
The spark might be there, but it doesnt burn as bright as it has in the past.
-
The game is chock full of innovations, yet retains the addictive play of its predecessors.
-
PC GamerAn engaging turn-based strategy game that manages to retain the overall feel and flavor of the series while being distinct from its brethren. [Jan 2002, p.68]
-
What it lacks is the elegance of the original design.
-
Computer Gaming WorldThe new combat system is an almost unmitigated disaster. [July 2002, p.73]
