Poor graphics, bugs that carried over from the beta, horrible memory leaks, and boring, derivative quests and gameplay doom this one to the mire of average at best games.

This game is the first online game that has actually been fun since the WoW expansion. It definitely takes the Diablo concept to the next level, and the quality of the past Diablo releases has carried forward to this release.

Gets boring to fast. I dont like the idea of charging people either. Graphics are ok, but was looking more for an adventurous game. This game is all hack and slash and nothing else. Dont waste your money.

Game is beautiful, and if you are worrying about the subscription fee. You're paying for constant "expansions" onto the game, new levels, new features and etc. They charge a subscription fee to those who chose to subscribe so that they can access new content, and be involved in other sorts of goodies.

If you're looking for Diablo 3, this is it. No it's not an MMO with open persistent worlds, but it is a highly addictive hack and slash treasure hunt game. Honestly, don't listen to the naysayers, if you loved Diablo 2 for years and years like I did, you'll love Hellgate London.

This game was a major disappointment to me. The randomized maps are a good idea, but for some reason seem repetative after a short while. Instead of this mish-mash, I would rather play a real MMO like WoW, a real action RPG like Titan Quest, Sacred, or Diablo 2, or a real FPS like Unreal Tournament 3 or Battlefield 2 / 2142. The subscription fee for the "elite" content is also a major rip-off. Guild Wars contains everything that HGL does, and there is no subscription fee. Expand

Actually more like a 9.2 or 9.3. Hellgate is a tough game to review since it combines different genres, hence it could have different point of views whether it's good or not. For two years I looked forward to this game. I can't remember being this disappointed in a computer game - ever. 3rd person interface is unresponsive. Bland graphics. Terrible voice acting. No story. But worst of all is having to pay $10 a month just for character slots, a 3rd difficulty, hardcore mode, and a shared stash. Electronic Arts ruined this game. What a shame.

Flagship is NOT Blizzard... they listened to their Beta testers and allowed us to help them create an enjoyable game. That speaks volumes for the franchise in thefuture. DX10 1920 X 1200 everything maxed = the best graphics on the PC to date. Simply a breathtaking experience. Some are worried about the repetitive nature of some of the quests, the hack and slash of some instances and the "kill X many of Y beast to collect Z." Isn't that what this genre is about? Getting lost in a "dungeon" for a bit with a few online buddies and hack/slashing around for some legendaries while getting xp and lev'ing up? Maybe not to all. But for me, this is just what the doc ordered :) Ty Flagship for breathing new life into a genre that only you could. Expand

Based on the demo alone, I have a single piece of advice to anybody considering getting this game.
    Don't.

Go load up your old copy of diablo 2 / Buy a new copy of diablo 2.

Diablo 2 is a more polished and action packed game that already comes packed with a large community and lots of features. The game play is the same, only the world is much richer.

Flawed Diamond. Needs work still, especially multiplayer, but the core game is excellent. Playing as an Evoker (the game's high damage magic class) I regularly use almost every spell the class has, each in a different situation - not just TheBestSpell endlessly like in Diablo or Titan Quest.

The core gameplay is functional; however, it's not deep at all and revolves primarily around item-hunting and item-upgrading. As such, the only replay value this game has is in trying to top-out your current gear stats. The Multiplayer is completely dysfunctional. You currently can't even see certain party members due to a bug. And even if you could, group mechanics are not necessary to beat this game or even to be competitive. The whole game is soloable. Online multiplayer amounts to nothing more then giving you someone to trade your items with. The chat interface is a TOGGLE, not imbedded - which further disrupts any sense of online multiplayer component. They also offer a Subscription fee so you can create more then 3 characters at a time online and get an extra 6X8 stash in your inventory. In other words, it's EXTORTION. There's no reason for this game to have a subscription model - everything is instanced and nothing is persistant. They claim they'll add an Auction House and/or in-game mail EVENTUALLY - but it's alredy too late for me. My advice - don't buy this game until MAYBE 2008 - by then, it might actually be a Post-Beta product. Expand

Hellgate: London takes the elements that made the Diablo series classic, and puts them in new, invigorating setting of demonic threat, dark magic and high technology. The fresh world of Hellgate: London is its greatest asset, but sadly the game fails in capitalizing it properly, with quite shoddy plot and generic missions outside the main story. Nevertheless, Hellgate: London is a good action RPG with plenty to enjoy. How the multiplayer system works when the game hits stores will ultimately determine the staying power of the game. [Nov 2007]
