NiklasJ.Nov 2, 2007Is a very good game on paper, but unforunately, doesn't work well in practice. The gameplay is mediocare but very stiff and easily becomes boring in the long run. The graphics & sounds are acceptable but could be quite much better. The animations however, are terrible. Overall it's not a very good game unless you have a lot friends to party up with.

MarcoH.Nov 3, 2007A big disappointment after all those gorgeous screenshots. Art won't save ordinary graphics. There are too much recycled sets. Combats are easy and nothing special. Expensive upgrades are almost a fraud. There are also unexpected bugs and the interface is poorly implemented. Doesn't deserve all those fishy biased "10" rating :(

EreldNov 8, 2007Lots of annoying bugs, and few actually that prevent you to follow the main storyline in the single player campaign. I've personnaly never see this in any game, and I've never been stuck and forced to wait a patch to continue a game, which is , finally, very frustrating. It can be a good game, but the bugs, that seem to extend in time with no fix, will kill it very fast.

JoelEOct 31, 2007Graphics won't help you enjoy this let down. Lacks appeal on gameplay and technical aspect. Sound is extremely buggy and glitchy. I base my comments on the demo, and from my experience I can tell that the actual game won't be very different

JohnS.Nov 2, 2007Very poor quality control (buggy) for a major title from well-known developers. Boring, pointless quests. Many levels/locations look alike - randomization is not a substitute for good level design. Subscriptions still not working three days after launch, but this is no great loss since my interest in subscribing has dropped to nil.

AndrewBallingerOct 30, 2007Based on the demo alone, I have a single piece of advice to anybody considering getting this game.
Don't.
Go load up your old copy of diablo 2 / Buy a new copy of diablo 2.
Diablo 2 is a more polished and action packed game that already comes packed with a large community and lots of features. The game play is the same, only the world is much richer. -

ArnoldS.Nov 17, 2007The game is almost, but not quite, fun. No amount of bug fixing/patching is gonna change the fact that: a) the skills are uninteresting compared to D2/WoW b) not enough item variety c) the maps are all too similar d) the combat is monotonous e) leveling is tedious grinding f) almost no replayabiity This game has no future. Fail. Next.

DravenS.Oct 31, 2007Not that great of a game. I was in the Beta. The fixes they said would be coming never came in the retail. They left out some of the things in the game during beta that made it stand out. I cancelled my pre-order because of the lack of content for subscribers and the lack of general good game items for non-subscribers.

ElwoodH.Nov 4, 2007Such a disappointment. So many core gameplay issues from not knowing how much damage your character causes to not being able to split stacks to one of the worst UIs I've ever seen to absolutely no story whatsoever. Expected this to be the next Diablo 2. Now I think it has a ways to go before it becomes the next Titan Quest.

ndNov 12, 2007Game didn't even come close to it hype and the devs relied on "WE R DIABLO2 MAKERS LOLZZZ!" to sell their game and it ended up pretty crappy. Game has maximum 40 hours of play time and 0 replayability. Is 40 hours worth the 50$? Up to you.

RyanNov 15, 2007Great fundamental concept (since it's the Diablo concept) but execution completely fails in every facet: network connectivity, user interface, variety in locations monsters and NPCs, and community relations. Sorry Bill, try again.

DougS.Nov 14, 2007A couple of good ideas, well implemented. A lot of good ideas, very poorly implemented. A few really bad ideas. And a crapload of bugs and coding issues. Send this one back to beta, fix the bugs, and playtest it properly so it's fun.

-
DavidL.Nov 14, 2007As a beta 1 year from release it's pretty good. As a retail version costing box, subscription, and in game advertisements, the game is a shameful scam to get your money without delivering much. Bugs abound. The story line and content are paper thin, shallow as a puddle. You can play through it in a week and be done with it. The conveniences that make a game playable aren

PeterS.Nov 5, 2007A disappointment. A boring if possibly addictive gameplay, very weak art... It looks and plays like some sort of a glued-together hybrid of Tabula Rasa and Alien Shooter 2. And although that may make for an excellent game under other circumstances, Hellgate is not one.
-

TaeraL.Dec 5, 2007Shallow, unfinished, buggy, pointless.

PeteF.Oct 31, 2007For two years I looked forward to this game. I can't remember being this disappointed in a computer game - ever. 3rd person interface is unresponsive. Bland graphics. Terrible voice acting. No story. But worst of all is having to pay $10 a month just for character slots, a 3rd difficulty, hardcore mode, and a shared stash. Electronic Arts ruined this game. What a shame.

BillMcCoyNov 27, 2007Most blatanlty rushed piece of crap ever. No story, atmosphere, variety, or fun for that matter. FSS messed up big time. They tried to make a hybrid of an ARPG and an MMO and failed miserably.

-
caffeinatedNov 8, 2007Buggy, unfinished and lacking in necessary information. Poorly designed UI, chat and grouping mechanics. Has fun moments, but you have to put up with too much unpleasantness to get to the fun. Needs a lot of work.

-
JackJ.Oct 31, 2007Disappointed. I almost never buy a game without trying it and I'm regretting it now for sure. This game is so mindless and dull. I was expecting action packed combat based off the trailers, and this game is nothing like that. It's just left-click, left-click, left-click again til all the monsters are gone. You seriously have to be horrible if you enjoy this.

LandonF.Nov 5, 2007I just played this game and turned it off. . I have never seen such horrible graphics for a video game for this time. .I was all hyped when i saw the starting video but once I played the game, the graphics reminded me of Doom, so linear, the character details are horrible. . . Then again I just started playing Clive Barker Jericho. . I cant compare . See for your self.

dragoneyes001Jan 10, 2008The story is chopped up to say the least more like half done and although the battle system is fun and entertaining there is pretty much no feel of accomplishment no way to mule items and no variety in builds for the pvp players so overall this game fails on 3 out of four of the main reasons to play an MMO.

GregD.Oct 26, 2007Poor graphics. Derivative gameplay. No respecs. Subscription plan is an absolute disaster. Paying $10 a month for the third difficulty level, hardcore mode, shared stash, and character slots is an outrage. This is not an MMO. There is no persistent world. They are trying to charge $10 a month for a Diablo 2 clone. That is absurd.

-
AnonyA.Nov 13, 2007Just paid good money for a load of crap... Don't waste your money... here is why... Do you know the FPS feeling of HL2 - well this game does not have it.... it feels more like a proto type... like the game is actually less playable than HL1. Also as for the RPG nature... what good is it, if the general playability of the game is so crap... can't believe I wasted my money.

PC GamerIt doesn't redefine the action RPG, but in a genre laden with derivative games, Hellgate is a refreshing concoction that's likely to have enduring appeal. [Dec 2007, p.48]
-
You might get sucked into the online world of competing slayers and level grinding for a while, but the tedium will kill you far quicker than any member of Hell's vast.

Pelit (Finland)Hellgate: London takes the elements that made the Diablo series classic, and puts them in new, invigorating setting of demonic threat, dark magic and high technology. The fresh world of Hellgate: London is its greatest asset, but sadly the game fails in capitalizing it properly, with quite shoddy plot and generic missions outside the main story. Nevertheless, Hellgate: London is a good action RPG with plenty to enjoy. How the multiplayer system works when the game hits stores will ultimately determine the staying power of the game. [Nov 2007]
