    Great VR game!
    No, it doesn't reinvent the wheel, no, it's not perfect (but then, I think, that's not entirely possible with current gen VR headsets), but it shows what's possible with the current gen and pushes VR game quality to a new level.
    Also, it brought us a new story in the HL universe and promises even more.
    So, I give it 9 out of 10.

    I have been in the VR resurgence scene since early 2013. I've owned the Rift development kits 1 + 2, CV1, and been enjoying my Vive since not long after release. I've played everything there has been to play, watched the community and niche grow for years. I've talked to all the developers, and did some hobbyist development myself. I know how it all works. It's hard to be impressed with aI have been in the VR resurgence scene since early 2013. I've owned the Rift development kits 1 + 2, CV1, and been enjoying my Vive since not long after release. I've played everything there has been to play, watched the community and niche grow for years. I've talked to all the developers, and did some hobbyist development myself. I know how it all works. It's hard to be impressed with a lot of the output in recent years, let alone immersed. I have ridiculous standards at this point.

    And Half Life: Alyx is the best VR title I have ever played. It's nearly flawless. Do I wish there were more weapons? More modes? More enemy types? Absolutely. But the product, as it stands now, is flawless. This is the most robust engine I have seen for VR, ever. The embarrassingly-bad Boneworks cannot hold a candle to the sense of physical presence here. Sound is also a huge "presence"-enabler that is always, ALWAYS under-utilized in VR. It sounds so good here. So real. It's just wonderful. The ambiance you feel in every room is unrivaled. Incredible.

    And most of the negative reviews here are clearly from bitter little whiners who are mad that the new, official, canon HL game is on a format they don't have or can't afford. Don't be mad.    … Expand

    Played on VIVE Cosmos. And it´s incredible!!! You are inside Half-Life world, fantastic true graphics, physics and great new experience, even inside VR games, because it´s not only regular vr-project - you are entering inside this world, you´ve seen years ago in HL and HL2 series. 10/10.

    I bought a VR headset (Q2) specifically to play Alyx. Do I regret doing that? No I do not.

    Its a visually stunning, new look at the Half Life world. Its got everything half life had in terms of storytelling, and the VR is done really well. Maybe lay off (or improve on the VR hologram puzzles) Please can we have some more Mr Gabe. Soon. Like not 3 years. Or maybe portal 3 VR. Yes..     However, it's that scary that you must have some pretty big balls in order to finish it; I didn't.
    It's super realistic. It's a showcase of what future games should look like. It's more immersive than any other game. This is the future.

    A great follow up to the well known series. The game not only employs many mechanisms exclusive to VR, looks extremely great, but also remembers that the main hook of this franchise are well written characters and interesting storyline. I'm eagerly waiting for the next installment.

    This half life game, like the older games, really seems to fit into the half life franchise. It has great attention to detail, a lot of variety in gameplay and environments and is just generally really fun and diverse. It's so good that I can look past a few issues like not having the best shooter mechanics, the lack of sprinting, and a few other minor issues.     At first, i was angry that i had to buy into VR to play a Half Life game. In the end, this not only turned out to be the best VR game ever made, but one of my favorite games of all time. Absolutely loved the game from start to finish and worth the VR purchase. Highly recommended.

    I basically lived in City17 for 2 weeks. Still grabbing and playing over and over again. Its immersive, characters and world feels so alive! Thanks Valve for this! I can only imagine what crazy mods we will gonna see soon.

    Absolutely incredible. Valve did it again. The best VR game, and in my opinion, the best GAME out there. I am deeply in love with the Half-Life franchise, and this game took it even further into greatness.
    Beautifully optimized, incredible landscape, perfect story.
    Fantastic Masterpiece in every way shape or form.

    Amazing game! Played all the Half Life games in the past, but with VR you are transported inside the Half Life universe for the first time. The graphics are top notch and the gameplay with the gravity gloves and gunplay is super fun and tense. I played with an Index, but any lower cost headset like a Rift-S or Quest with Link cable should do fine as well. The game is really wellAmazing game! Played all the Half Life games in the past, but with VR you are transported inside the Half Life universe for the first time.     One of the most enjoyable games I have played in last 10 years of titles. Worth the price of admission on its own; anything else I get out of a VR headset is a bonus at this point. I full-on had a food critic from Ratatouille moment for the whole game.

    By far the best, most immersive VR game ever. Everything from the visuals, amazing sound design and combat, the only real negative I have is you cant physically damage enemies with melee weapons.

    This was a masterpiece. I had a blast going through City 17 again. There are games that does more with VR, but even boneworks is generally a clunky experience because of that. Alyx did was over the board with comfort options for beginners, but even that didn't ruin the overall experience for me.

    From the very beginning, this game blew me away with its gameplay and combat. The way through which the game immerses you within its gunplay is something no other game has accomplished, as it not only feels realistic but also never stops feeling satisfying. In addition, the fact that the game allows you to force any object toward you (as if you are using the "Force") takes the experience to a whole new level, because it truly makes you feel as if you are an unstoppable being. Finally, all the little secrets the levels hide within them made it so exploration was never a chore, while at the same time rewarding players with even more tools to use at their disposal. In terms of pure gameplay, Half-Life Alyx is practically flawless.

    In terms of the game's narrative, I was pleasantly surprised with it. The dialogue always found ways to be entertaining, and the actual story elements felt very memorable. But what I really appreciated was how the gameplay was never interrupted by the dialogue, as the characters simply talk while you make your way through the levels. There are cutscenes here and there, but they never felt overly long and included enough spectacles to make them fun to watch. Also, the ending blew my mind, which only made my entire journey even more memorable. Overall, I would the story is great both for how it is presented and how amazing its elements ended up being.

    One of the other aspects of this game that I loved was the weapons and the upgrades. Throughout the game, you are given three different guns, which may seem small from the outside. Thankfully, the game makes up for this by having each gun be something completely different and allowing them to be upgraded in very meaningful ways. These upgrades include adding a better scope, automatically refilling the magazine, and giving a gun rapid fire. As for the rest of the game, the other great aspects would be the beautifully detailed levels, amazing level of freedom with fighting enemies, and the intuitive puzzle design. In terms of negative aspects, the only ones I could honestly think of would more so be issues with VR in general rather than the game itself. If I did give one complaint, it would be that occasionally the controls will not respond properly when trying to reload a gun, which may end up getting you killed during a critical moment. This is a very small complaint, but it is likely it will happen from time to time.

    At the end of the day, Half-Life Alyx is one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had with a video game. The masterful immersion and mind-blowing gameplay that it provides is something I've never gotten from any other game. Believe me when I say that it is worth buying a VR Headset just to play this game, as it is just that good. Half-Life Alyx is a truly unforgettable experience, which is why I have no problem calling this game a masterpiece.    … Expand

    one fo the best vr games i have ever played, very well polished with nice pacing, there is a lack of melee combat but there is a reason for that which is explained after the game ends. generally one of the greatest experiences the vr can offer, and is the game that needed in order to give confidence to more devs to invest in vr games.

    I'm not going to lie and say that half life: alyx is a perfect game. I'm not even going to say it is a perfect VR game, but damn does it get close (especially with the technology we have at our disposal currently). As far as I can tell, all the garbage does is stagger them. But for every small insignificant gripe I can give it, there are 10 pros I can give it. The game has the usual valve music we've come to love, the wonderful world building and story crafting of half life (and all story based valve games for that matter), and fun and addicting gameplay. It is a far cry from any other game on the market currently. The only vr game that can come anywhere close is boneworks, and that's still not a super amazing game like alyx is. This game definetly deserves a 10/10… Expand

    A very well made VR game. Was able to get about 15 hours out of the story and am going through a second playthrough. Game runs very well on my HTC Vive with no issues or frame drops on the highest settings.

    Story was interesting with great banter between Alyx and Russel and very unique environments that I have not seen in any other VR title.     I would have liked it if there was more weapons and more combat scenes with more enemies. Currently you only ever fight 2-3 combine at once and I would have liked to have fought more. This led to the game feeling too easy on the hardest difficulty for me.

    This is up there in my list of the greatest gaming experiences I have ever had. The level design is superb and the visuals jawdropping. Set pieces of this scale are almost never seen in VR and you appreciate them a lot more when you can really see them existing before you in the world. Overall they make great use of effects and mechanics and show why VR takes your gaming experience to the next level. I am really thankful for valve and their investment in VR.     Valve signe là un véritable grand, beau, long jeu VR sur la franchise HL. Je ne suis pas un fan d'HL, je ne les ai jamais finis. Pour autant, l'univers est très prenant, de ce que je connais d'HL c'est parfaitement intégré au lore de la franchise.
    C'est clairement LE jeu VR qui exploite le mieux cette fonction : il y a un très grand souci du détail, beaucoup d'interactions, ce qui pousse en avant le réalisme. Tout ça dans cette ambiance, c'est juste ...wahou !
    Malheureusement, le jeu n'est pas localisé autrement qu'en anglais, ce qui me fait lui enlever un point (oui c'est important pour moi. Les pro-VO râleurs peuvent toujours mettre le jeu en VO, alors que moi je n'ai pas le choix).

    Très bon point concernant l'optimisation. Le rendu global du jeu est propre, les vues proches et les textures sont extrêmement détaillées (les vues lointaines un peu moins. Mais au regard des performances nécessaires c'est un moindre mal). Je suis sur une génération de carte graphique inférieure (GTX 1070) et le jeu tourne comme un charme, détail élevés.

    Graphics, characters and animations look so real, story is awesome, gameplay is rewarding and fun. The best VR game in the market, one of the best game ever made. Easily lives up to crazy amount of hype Half-Life games have. This game is just FANTASTIC

    Brutal es un juego de 10. Tal vez hay mejores juegos en vr, pero ninguno representa, el hecho de que una saga de renombre como half life , que siempre a demostrado hacia donde se dirige el futuro de los videojuegos en cada nueva entrega ,ha elegido esta tecnología para marcar el camino. bien por valve.

    A must for VR fans and a great introduction for VR newcomers. A great sci-fi story with ambitious environments and mechanics. Mind bending experience for sure. Some things that could've been implemented are not here, like melee combat or more direct physical contact with the enemies and more physical puzzles. Also grabbing corners or objects to peek like in The Walking Dead Saints andA must for VR fans and a great introduction for VR newcomers.     Valve has done it again! One of the only companys that would push a medium that isnt widely adopted and making it a must buy. In a year where TLOU2 and Cyberpunk2077 will release, I can say without a doubt this will remain my GOTY.

The attention to detail in the graphics and the pure amount of interactivity are nothing short of spectacular. The way the gameplay is built around the grabbity gloves also is so intuitive and easy to use i had a blast anytime I had to use them (which is all the time)

    The story is suitably Half Life. HL oozes through every interaction of every character, level, voive and so on. The atmosphere is so enthralling that the game is hard to put down. Its so well done that its making me want to replay through HL 1 & 2 again just bc I am so sucked into the universe again. There are sections of the game that also go full horror and creep and its so much more immersive in VR.

    I played on the normal difficulty and found it a perfect balance of challenge and enjoyment. The game clocked in at around 13 hours for me which I found perfect. Any longer and I think it would have overstayed its welcome for a first time experience in VR.
    The gameplay CONSTANTLY throws new challenges at you. Every time youre just getting used to one mechanic, the game throws something new at you. it really keeps you on your toes.

    I could go on and on about the positives about the game. Its certainly not perfect though. While I'd say 95% of the game is extremely intuitive, there are definitely parts that you scratch your head as you figure out what to do next. The game barley gives any help at all and its up to you as an experienced gamer to figure out some of the puzzles yourself. Unless you are a total beginner at video games, you will eventually figure out what to do. But if youre a first time gamer and just jumping into this, good luck.

    Overall this game is a masterpiece in my eyes. To push the medium of VR to the next level and making this a reason to get VR is a serious accomplishment. I highly recommend this game to fans of the franchise and newcomers alike. The gameplay and atmosphere are too good to pass up.

    I've been playing video games since the Atari and NES, and have had some excellent gaming experiences, but this game is fantastic! I played this game using an HP Reverb G2. My system is an i7-10700k OC, 32gb Ram, NVME SSD, and RTX 3090. Getting the game to run 90hz at full settings and full resolution on the G2 was a challenge    Valve has taken things to the next level with this game.

Valve has definitely set the bar for what VR can achieve, I just hope other companies can create similar experiences, so far nothing comes close.

    It may be a bit expensive to get the full experience in this game, but if you can afford it, you owe it to yourself to get the setup just for this game.    … Expand

    Alyx is an amazing game. It's the first VR title that actually makes real use of the platform. It is immersive, engaging, and challenging with a defined story. I'm a fan and early adopter of VR tech, but I untill Alyx I was never blown away.

    Granted it's far shorter than I'd like, and the AI could use a little work. But it's a game changer!

    Fantastic visuals, combat and story. This game really shows that VR is not a gimmick but instead a tool to exasperate the gameplay and visuals to an amazing extent.

    It's definitely 10/10. For a long time, I thought that Valve doesn't make HL3 as there is no way to make it revolutionary as HL2 and HL were at its time. But Valve found the way. They made it VR. It is the real HL, not just some fancy fake. I have a feeling that I am playing the old good HL but now I am inside. And yes, I am absolutely in love with the fact it's VR but not a normal game. I feel so natural inside that I constantly forget about turning and walking with a joystick but start to move around the room (and the one is very small :( ).     A special mention should be made of the game's dialog, mainly consisting of Alyx herself and Russel, a scientist who Alex remains in constant communication with throughout the game. Their relationship feels genuine, the conversations between them are enjoyable, and almost all of the intended comedic moments land perfectly, which is something most video games seem to have trouble with.
