FazA.Oct 11, 2007Simlpy amazing, supasses hl2 and ep1 and in fact anything on the market, although its only 6-7hrs can't help feel that its the perfect balance, just hope they don't end the story at ep3!!
-
-
NefariousB.Oct 11, 2007Valve delivers the goods for sure. Enjoyed every minute of it. Now, if I could just start playing Episode 3 today.
-
-
GustavoD.Oct 11, 2007The game was worth waiting for.Awsome graphics and story line is never broken.Where one ends another picks up at that moment.I just hope valve is working on episode 3 now. Can't wait. Awsome job guys.

PatrickT.Nov 12, 2007Arguably better than Half-Life 2, Episode 2 does not disappoint. It's short, but it's action-packed and tons of fun. It does make a few addition to the Half-Life 2 combat, so it's not just more Half-Life 2. Along with the other Orange Box games, money spent on Half-Life 2 Episode 2 is well spent.
-
-
DanielA.Nov 15, 2007Episode 2 makes Half-life 2 a must to everyone who likes FPS. The story-telling is simply amazing, the action is overwhelming and the graphics tough little out-of-date are drooling.
-
-
LarsH.Nov 20, 2007Best release in the HL family so far, so much fun and gives you a wonderful tense feeling with all the nice gfx.
-
-
JimB.Oct 12, 2007It was worth every minute of the wait. Every. Single. Minute.
-
-
NickS.Oct 12, 2007The ending was by far the best thing I have ever seen. I was sitting on the end of my seat with both hands to my mouth, watching it, and the twists kept on coming. I rate this a 10, by far the best ever game for its time.
-
-
AlexS.Oct 12, 2007Outstanding single-player experience. It doesn't *need* to be any longer, as a single episode in a trilogy it works fine as it is.
-
-
BobJ.Oct 12, 2007Great installment to the story, but unfortunately too short and a little lacking in the choreography department - but the latter was only noticeable in the begging. Otherwise it was worth it's price in dollars. Buy it!

-
[Anonymous]Oct 12, 2007Great game, but still to short of gameplay.
-
-
JeanN.Oct 12, 2007Cool, great graphics and full action.
-
-
AnonymousMCOct 13, 2007The story continuation from Half Life 2 and Episode 1 was very well done here. The gameplay was amazing with newly updated graphics and textures, incredible sound, and suprisingly smart AI.
The new enemies were fun to kill and get killed by.
Full of story twists and turns, and an incredibly powerful ending make Half Life 2: Episode 2 the best game I have ever played. -
-
DominiqueGingrasOct 13, 2007Half Life 2 and predecessor have always been excellent products in my book. This orange box package is another proof that games dont have to be as expensive as others and still be of the highest quality. Valve, you have my vote! Keep the excellent work going... and enjoy that cake!
-
-
PhilippOct 13, 2007One of the greatest games ever played... real grafics and effects... great story and gameplay!
-
-
RessourectoRCsrinruOct 13, 2007It's just as awesome as I, truly someone who adores the series, expected it to be. Mind-blowing action and storyline, cinema-exceeding drama. Another step towards the future of video games that are beginning to compete with great movies in feeling, emotions and atmosphere.
-
-
DustinW.Oct 13, 2007Very good story progression and graphics. The game seemed a little short, and easy.
-
-
HelenB.Oct 13, 2007Very interesting game, fascinating gameplay but it's very very little.
-
-
JohanL.Oct 14, 2007This is a great game but improvements may be needed... We all love the lighting and all that I would like fully dynamic lighting in wich I mean that ordinary lights should cast dynamic lighting also. But it's a very fun and good game love it all my spine shivered through the whole game of excitement! Nice work valve keep this up on ep3!

-
BrandonS.Oct 14, 2007Half-Life 2 Episode Two is an amazing game. I believe that it is easily comparable to Half-Life 2, the only drawback being that it is not as long. The game continues the series's gripping storyline and amazing gameplay.

-
AlexG.Oct 15, 2007An excellent and thoroughly enjoyable addition to the trilogy. The Antlion fight is one of the best bits of gameplay i've ever experianced. Can't wait for the next.
-
-
DustinCokerOct 15, 2007Simply put, another masterpiece from Valve for this series. To improve on a game engine that was already the best ever made for any game is astounding. I am halfway through it, and I don't need to finish this chapter to know that this one gets a 10!

ChifangC.Oct 15, 2007The game play is really good, but I was expecting a longer game and more of the combats in the white forest like the trailers have showed.
-
-
JackPancakeNov 6, 2007I know I could have got this game by it'self but I'm glad I got the orange box. But this was the main reason I bought the OB and it in no way disappointed me, leaving me desperately wanting ep3. The gameplay is the best yet from hl2 and the graphics have had a nice touch up. For some reason though I didn't feel that i wanted to play through again like I had done with hl2 and ep1.
-
-
MikelOct 16, 2007Very good game with a good story! Only downside is that it's far too short! I hope the third part is longer because I was very disappointed that it was over so fast! For the short gameplay I give it 2 points less as it should get!

DanielP.Oct 16, 2007Awesome game! I truly loved it, but hated how short it was. The new additions were fun and interesting. If it wasn't for the shortness I would have given it a 10.
-
-
AnonymousMCOct 16, 2007Even at its current high score isn't high enough. You just don't find other games polished to this degree next gen or not. I read some reviews knocking it about having the same old game play, but I have to wonder if they actually played the Strider Attack sequence--which is like Mad Max meets War of the Worlds. Valve gives a lot of damn about every second of their games and it shows.
-
-
TechnichaOct 17, 2007Amazing game.. Improved graphics, New gameplay, and the awesome storyline continues! For a Episodic game it's length is perfect. Much improvements compared to Episode 1.
-
-
JasonB.Oct 17, 2007What can i say?........ Yet again Valve expand the story within the Half life universe , opening more question, answering them too, but leaving the player gagging for more after completion, with yet more cliff hangers. I want more!!!! One downside....still a little fast in completing, but i suppose thats what you get for episodic games!
-
-
SeanH.Oct 17, 2007My only complaint is that it was too short. I take my time playing through games and it only took me 5.6 hours to beat.
-
-
AnttiK.Oct 17, 2007Entertainment with best attitude! Must play and see!
-
-
GordonJ.Oct 17, 2007It's not just another ep1, everything is ramped up a few notches from action to new concepts. Only downfall is the shortness, but such is the way of "Episodic" releases.

SigurjonH.Oct 18, 2007Half-Life 2 Episode 2 is a great continue for the half-life series i think and does make a great entertainment for all player becous it has every thing in it, fun parts, cool parts, action parts, fast parts and sad parts.
-
-
JonH.Oct 18, 2007Wow, Valve sure does like leaving me on the edge of my seat wanting more. It happened with Half Life 2 and Episode 1, now Episode 2 has done the same and left me without another installment to play.
-
-
KentY.Oct 19, 2007The VALVE TEAM has done it again!! There has been nothing in recent history I have waited so much for and NOT been dissapointeted about!!! I love the involved storyline, the the immersion into the game is incredible...You guys ROCK!!! Keep them coming!!!
-
-
TrustME!Dec 12, 2007Pro: Great sequal, look, worth playing, sounds, physics, and a great continuing sequal. Con: Short.
-
-
AdamG.Dec 15, 2007Awesome continuation of the Half-Life series!! Keeps you involved with cutting-edge gameplay and an enthralling storyline all the way through! If you haven't played Half-Life, you're missing out on an epic adventure!!
-
-
TimothyP.Dec 21, 2007The dynamic and non-linear gameplay, source engine improvements (resulting in expansive and impressive scenery), and narrative development make the game stand out from the rest of the series and from all others.
-
-
BogdanD.Oct 22, 2007I expected more from this game. It could be a little bit more difficult and with longer gameplay time. Of course, with this episode the game made a big step forward in graphically opinion but I expected something fresher.
-
-
JustinK.Dec 23, 2007
-
-
ErikS.Dec 23, 2007Better than episode 1, primarily because the gravity gun affects more objects in a rational matter; in Ep1, objects that shouls have been affected were not, and it was quite irritating. Also, the re-insertion of Dr. Magnussen, as well as Uriah the Vort as a real character made this a wonderful game.
-
-
RedD.Dec 24, 2007I like the glimpses of the monsters - makes you go "what was that!"
-
-
KarimZ.Dec 25, 2007A great follow-up and an adequate compensation for Episode One's shortcomings.
-
-
BillB.Dec 6, 2007While not as well designed as episode one, episode two shines in its own right with sprawling enviroments, interesting characters and intense yet entertaining combat with a fair number of puzzles to break up the action!
-
-
JoeA.Oct 27, 2007This game is absolutely amazing, What you wold expect from a half life game plus a whole new level of story and emotion down right the best game i have played and i can't wait for more.
-
-
JoeB.Oct 27, 2007It may be short but the high impact drama of the game was more than worth the price i would pay 50bucks for this game it was absolutely fantastic.

GregW.Oct 29, 2007It was a great episode and definitely pushed the story further. I left me wanting for the next episode to come out. However, I did think that it was shorten that I was expecting. Episode One seemed to be longer for me than this one. Still, I enjoyed it.
-
-
PaulP.Jan 13, 2008Amazing graphics, amazing gameplay, what could you ask more for a another amazing episode for Half-Life 2, round of applause, Valve.
-
-
FlorianK.Jan 15, 2008Great Game, it' a great game. Great Graphics and a wonderfull Story. Good job Valve!!!
-
-
CharlesMOct 23, 2008Absolutely amazing game. Achievements added a whole new dimension to the gameplay experience. The emotions of the characters felt so real...I cried at the end & really developed an affection for Alyx. The downside...valve takes FOREVER to make the most AMAZING games!!!! But the wait is soooo worth it when they finally release the game.

tonysantosNov 19, 2007The story line of episode II is definitely more developed than episode I. The game play has improved significantly, and the new means of transportation, a rusty muscle car, is very thrilling. Overall the game is a must for half life fans... the only drawlback is the short gameplay.

KyleDec 13, 2007I believe this game and its predecessor's were truly magnificently done. I'm not a huge gamer or very serious one but I was interested in the story line of the game. After playing all three Half-Lifes' i think in my own opinion Episode 2 was the best because it left the story a great setup for the third and perhaps final episode. Good job Valve.

AnonymousMCDec 27, 2007its a good game, could be longer, or they could put all 3 episodes into 1 giant game. take up a helluva lotta space on my tech deck sized drive though, and i have no space as it is. so if im gettin episode 3, and i KNOW i am(im buying it with my best buy gift card) ill have to get rid of gmod or sims 2. the part i liked best though would be killin off the huge ass load of striders near the end

Sep 24, 2010I was blown away by how awesome this game was. I had only played Episode 1, but this overtook my wildest expectations. It had everything; graphics, gameplay and story. Sometimes the game got hard, but other than that, great game.
-
Apr 4, 2011Gameplay - 9.5 , Graphics - 8.5 , Story - 9.0 , Playing time - 6~8 hours. I would be perfect if the graphics had lived up to the standard of Half-Life 2.

Oct 23, 2012Half Life 2: Episode Two has the best gameplay in any Half Life Game by far. And there have been some pretty decent games in the series. The cliffhanger ending was amazing. The action was mostly enjoyable. The puzzles were as good as ever. There's just one thing stopping me from giving it a 10, and that's the length of the game. The game could've easily gone on for another few hours
-
Jul 25, 2011Episode Two took all of Episode One's flaws into account and returned to the level of the original game. Instead of the cramped Citadel, the setting is placed among wide open forests and eerie caves. The Hunters are some of the toughest enemies you will ever face (with a surprising weak spot). And the final battle is one of the most challenging and (when completed) satisfying of the series.

Dec 22, 2011Great game that stays more true to HL2 than episode one. The length is not too bad either. It would have been cool if they had added in another gun or something but it's still enjoyable and you can pick it up practically for free on Steam in sales. In fact I did get a free copy from Steam.
-
Jan 20, 2012Better than episode 1 and also slightly longer. When combined with the orange box package this is definietly a must have, as is the whole half life series (HL1 Expansions excluded, maybe).

Jun 6, 2012Fantastic addition to the series and really cannot wait for the next instalment. The time spent in the Half-Life 2 series has been the most fun I have ever had in a game and I continue to replay from time to time reliving the great moments that make the Half-Life story what it is.
-
May 14, 2012I feel obligated to finish this game - this is why I won't give a 10. But the gameplay is still amazing as ever! So don't let this down... go finish the series like a true Half-Life fan!

-
Jun 7, 2013Perfect. Just perfect. Episode Two has not a friggin' single flaw. This game is pure awesomeness from the beginning to the very last scene.
Just... wow. -
Jan 22, 2018Все еще надеюсь что история Фримена на этом не закончится.
-
Mar 12, 2014I think the first two chapters are a little bit worse than the rest, because it has little variety in environment and enemies. I also thought that the last big combine attack would be more spectacular. Everything else is excellent (story, characters, enemies, weapons, ...)!
-
Feb 3, 2014Story: 8 out of 10, Graphics: 9 out of 10, Fun: 9 out of 10, Controls: 9 out of 10, Ease to Learn: 8 out of 10, Length: 4 out of 10, Re-play: 3 out of 10, Value: 7 out of 10

Jan 9, 2014Does a great job of improving over the already genius Half-Life 2 formula. New weapons, new puzzles, new game mechanics (the use of your flashlight), new cool enemies, a great story and absolutely magnificent locations and events (cf. the hunter-trap in the shed). Way better than Episode One.

Jun 11, 2022Episode Two offers some of the best Half-Life experiences anyone can ever ask for.
-
Sep 23, 2014A great expansion to half life 2. The story in this one is great and is better than episode 1's, combat is pretty much the same but thats good. I recommend getting this if you liked Half life 2.
Awards & Rankings
-
Any way you look at it, Episode Two stands out, even among the Half-Life series, as something special. It may be shorter than the original, but it's a burly experience packed into roughly six hours or so that offers up all the diversity, level design, and thoughtful gameplay we've known while making sure to propel the story forward and leave us wanting more.
-
More great story blended with improved AI and better firefights. It's starting to retread old ground though.
-
Episode Two is the most sumptuous chapter of the Half-Life saga, and by a country mile. It's as if Valve's tech and art teams are trying to outdo each other: the Source engine has had a striking technical overhaul that renders textures, materials and curves uncannily well, and the artists clearly relish having a fresh palette to work with.
