While I would have much rather have seen the more accessible and modern, “Xrd” to see release on steam, AC+R serves as a great example of the series in its classic form and notorious depth.

Despite obsolete graphics, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R is a solid, challenging 2D fighting game.

Same lovable formula, but not much else.

Each character is completely different and unique, the music is fantastic, the sprites, the intro animations, the voice acting, and over all the presentation is great. The amount of freedom you have in playing a character is unbelievably huge. The netcode and overall online experience is flawless with barely any lag. And for the first time in fightimg game history, the single player content is also great! How?! The survival mode is one the most fun things you can do in this game, creating a completely broken version of your character. Do yourself a favor and buy this game, it might a bit difficult and complicated at first but please don't give up. Watch a few youtube guides and you're good to go. Full Review »

Finally, my favourite game in the series.

Guilty Gear XX is a gift from god himself Daisuke and we don't deserve this gift of a fighting game, beautiful sprites, the best soundtrack in the series pre-Strive, a VERY lengthy story mode and of course... anime hijinks.

Admittedly this game isn't perfect, it has SOME quirks that I guess I'll talk about out of obligation and my reviewing integrity for the 8 people who'll see this.

GGXXAC+R which is the best acronym ever by the way, has a Story Mode, kinda, it's just a glorified Arcade Mode, but it's very good mostly, the downside is the Path mechanic. To explain, Paths determine which ending you get, only one of which is canon, if any are at all, and you lock into these paths through certain choices you make or ways you beat the AI, for instance, some require you OHKO your opponent, some require you beat your opponent in a set amount of time, others need you to win without getting KO'd and NONE OF THESE ARE TOLD TO YOU IN GAME, you need to just keep playing forever until you get lucky and do it, despite how fun the gameplay is, I've fought I-No 49 times now and I'll be honest, her side-boob win pose has lost its APPEAL... ok no it hasn't it's still really hot.

Now that I've **** thoroughly, lets **** a little more, GGXXAC+R 2.5 HD Remix Birth By Sleep doesn't really accomplish anything plot wise, it's kind of like GOOD filler, it doesn't do anything important, but it's fun because you love these characters and their individual stories, but the story is put on hold until Overture, and that game sucks so maybe they were onto something here. Anyway the story is as follows; After the bounty hunt for Dizzy The Sexually Active 3 Year Old, she was entrusted to side character Johnny by Ky and Sol, Johnny leads a group of cute anime girls right out of a Moe blob anime called the Jellyfish pirates, including May, another side character and my mortal enemy with that blasted dolphin. Anyway, Dizzy is throw overboard because I-no can't stop being a terrible person, and the hunt for Dizzy starts again, she's eventually taken in by Ky, who does indeed marry and have a child with her, what's the legality of banging a 3 year old Gear who has physically and mentally matured into adulthood? I try not to think about it. The story is fine, but the focal point really is the character interaction around it and something you should experience first hand,

GGXXAC+R-H=GT is a great game, it's almost perfect but it has its quirks, I heavily recommend playing Story Mode, but only with a walkthrough so you know how to get the canon endings, but otherwise, it's great go play it, RIGHT NOW

The cast of characters is incredibly diverse, with some truly creative playstyles that I guarantee you haven't seen in any other fighting game. Yet somehow even with such wildly different characters, the game is stunningly well balanced, with literally every character being viable, and the difference between top and low tiers being small enough that it only matters for high-level tournament play. The universal system mechanics might seem like a lot at first, but as you play you realize what each option (burst, faultless defense, dead angle attacks, roman cancels, etc) is for, and every one basically uses a resource to bypass some omnipresent fighting game annoyance. Eat a launcher and get stuck in a long combo? Burst and you're out. Do a special attack that you wish had a followup? Roman cancel, now it does.

It's not the simplest game to get into, but I would argue that it's one of the most fun, even for newer players. While there might be many more options at any given moment than in Street Fighter, for example, that extra freedom means you're less likely to run into brainless counters like a DP every time you jump. Because here, you can jump, but then airdash forward, or double jump, or airdash backward, or use an air special to delay your landing, etc.

It's a truly impressive game that allows for boundless player expression. There's always something new to learn. If you've never given airdash fighters, anime fighters, or even 2d fighters a chance, pick this up for a few bucks and you won't look back. It regularly goes on sale for ~$3 USD, which is possibly the best deal I've ever heard of considering that the game has already given me a hundred hours of entertainment and I don't see that stopping any time soon. It also recently got rollback netcode added thanks to a community project, which is a fantastic update bringing best-in-class netcode to a genre that really needs it.
