Grime II is a phenomenal video game. Every aspect of it is a huge improvement over the original. If you have some patience and love a good Metroidvania, Grime II is the best one I have played since the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. I cannot recommend it enough.

GRIME 2 perfectly embodies what it preaches. Its predecessor was near perfect, and so it would have been easy to stay safe and recreate that with the improvements time has allowed for. Instead, GRIME 2 offers atmosphere and combat that builds on the world and mechanics that made the first game tick. While I can honestly say I’m not a huge fan of the “parry or you’re toast” trend that this game personifies, I am happy that the combat here gives you the opportunity to free yourself with even more skills.

In a crowded genre like Metroidvania, it’s no easy feat to carve out a unique identity without imitating others and to stay true to it. Grime II does a fantastic job in that regard, delivering an experience that’s immensely fun to play and wonderfully bizarre.

Grime 2 has all the makings of a great metroidvania that overshadows the issues that make it frustrating. The world is beautiful, and the basic combat loop is a ton of fun. It can get obnoxious when fighting multiple enemies, and I wasn't a fan of navigation, but exploration feels rewarding with a solid progression system.

GRIME II from developer Clover Bite and publisher Kwalee is a massive Metroidvania that is driven by its creativity and storytelling, backed up by amazing visuals and soundtrack, and does everything on the gameplay side that you would expect from the genre it lives within. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s worthy of your time.

Grime 2 has decent progression and looks amazing, but it loses some of what made the original so weird and unique.

I came with high expectations, and I left disappointed: Grime II is not a bad game or, God forbid, bad, but it does have quite a few problems that, for me at least, were quite difficult to digest. There are some good decisions here, including a combat system that feels more fluid even when it's actually quite slow, a storyline that might enchant you, and exploration areas that are designed correctly as long as it doesn't involve Fast Travel. So is this a game I can recommend? Basically, yes, if you like the style and the fact that this is an Israeli game, I totally see a reason to invest your time and money in it, just know in advance that there are quite a few problems here, and that it's not exactly the standard of quality you expect.
