Mar 30, 2026Grime II is a phenomenal video game. Every aspect of it is a huge improvement over the original. If you have some patience and love a good Metroidvania, Grime II is the best one I have played since the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown. I cannot recommend it enough.
-
Apr 1, 2026GRIME 2 perfectly embodies what it preaches. Its predecessor was near perfect, and so it would have been easy to stay safe and recreate that with the improvements time has allowed for. Instead, GRIME 2 offers atmosphere and combat that builds on the world and mechanics that made the first game tick. While I can honestly say I’m not a huge fan of the “parry or you’re toast” trend that this game personifies, I am happy that the combat here gives you the opportunity to free yourself with even more skills.

May 4, 2026In a crowded genre like Metroidvania, it’s no easy feat to carve out a unique identity without imitating others and to stay true to it. Grime II does a fantastic job in that regard, delivering an experience that’s immensely fun to play and wonderfully bizarre.

Mar 30, 2026I was a fan of Grime’s take on the Metroidvania/Soulslike formula. Grime 2 adds depth, polish, and variety to combat mechanics while making the experience a bit more accessible. Grime 2 literally begins with a question about how artists balance the new against what they’ve already done. Definitely a closely-related sequel and not a dramatic reinvention, there are a few frustrating platforming mechanics and a narrative that is only slightly less impenetrable. Grime 2 definitely deserves to break more fully into the mainstream this time around.
-
Mar 31, 2026GRIME 2 is a direct improvement to all aspects of its predecessor and doubles down on what makes it great in the first place. Featuring a unique aesthetic, deep combat systems, and textbook Metroidvania exploration, this is a title worth playing for fans of the genre.
-
Apr 14, 2026GRIME II is an excellent metroidvania/soulslike that builds on everything the original did well, delivering brutal, precise combat, well-designed bosses, and a striking aesthetic. It’s a great fit for fans of the genre who enjoy a challenge, mastering mechanics, and carefully exploring every corner of the map.
-
Apr 14, 2026Grime 2 confidently treads familiar metroidvania ground, embracing tried-and-true mechanics. While it doesn’t introduce anything particularly groundbreaking, fans of the genre will appreciate its deep combat system and challenging platforming sections, all supported by responsive and smooth controls. The entire experience is elevated by the imagination behind its vibrant world.
-
Apr 10, 2026GRIME II from developer Clover Bite and publisher Kwalee is a massive Metroidvania that is driven by its creativity and storytelling, backed up by amazing visuals and soundtrack, and does everything on the gameplay side that you would expect from the genre it lives within. It’s not perfect by any means, but it’s worthy of your time.
-
Mar 31, 2026Grime 2 has decent progression and looks amazing, but it loses some of what made the original so weird and unique.
-
Mar 30, 2026Grime 2 has all the makings of a great metroidvania that overshadows the issues that make it frustrating. The world is beautiful, and the basic combat loop is a ton of fun. It can get obnoxious when fighting multiple enemies, and I wasn't a fan of navigation, but exploration feels rewarding with a solid progression system.
-
Mar 30, 2026Grime II: The Righteous Cravings refines the original’s identity with exceptional combat depth, inventive enemy design, and a striking artistic vision, even if its narrative and exploration systems struggle to leave a lasting impact. The moment to moment gameplay shines through layered mechanics like Grasp and Force management, delivering consistently engaging encounters and challenging bosses, while its atmospheric world and distinct characters elevate immersion. However, uneven progression design, underwhelming rewards, and a loosely integrated exploration loop prevent it from reaching the full potential of its ideas, making it a strong but imperfect follow-up in the metroidvania space.
-
Apr 2, 2026GRIME II is bursting with imagination, from its surreal world to its flexible combat systems, but it rarely gives those ideas proper time to develop. The result is a visually striking metroidvania that is as frustrating as it is visually creative.

Mar 30, 2026So, to conclude! GRIME II is a fascinating, sometimes frustrating, but ultimately worthwhile experience. It builds on the original in meaningful ways, especially in its gameplay systems and world-building. The mold system, which absorbs enemies and turns them into tools, is a standout mechanic that adds both depth and identity. The world is rich, strange, and consistently intriguing. And the studio behind it clearly understands what makes this universe unique. But it’s not without its flaws. The lack of direct storytelling can make the experience feel distant at times, especially for players who prefer a more guided narrative. The difficulty curve, while not unexpected, can feel uneven. And the grind required for certain upgrades occasionally disrupts the flow. Still, there’s something here that sticks with you. Maybe it’s the atmosphere, maybe it’s the mechanics, or maybe it’s just the sheer commitment to doing something different. Whatever it is, GRIME II earns its place, not as a flawless sequel, but as a bold one.

Apr 6, 2026I came with high expectations, and I left disappointed: Grime II is not a bad game or, God forbid, bad, but it does have quite a few problems that, for me at least, were quite difficult to digest. There are some good decisions here, including a combat system that feels more fluid even when it's actually quite slow, a storyline that might enchant you, and exploration areas that are designed correctly as long as it doesn't involve Fast Travel. So is this a game I can recommend? Basically, yes, if you like the style and the fact that this is an Israeli game, I totally see a reason to invest your time and money in it, just know in advance that there are quite a few problems here, and that it's not exactly the standard of quality you expect.
