Maybe the best computer game ever made, for any system. You certainly could argue it. I've played all the GTAs, each one right at release and again and again repeatedly over the years, and I've been a huge fan since the very first top down GTA way back when, and this is still the best GTA ever. Maybe the best computer game ever made, for any system. You certainly could argue it. I've played all the GTAs, each one right at release and again and again repeatedly over the years, and I've been a huge fan since the very first top down GTA way back when, and this is still the best GTA ever. It's so good it's almost literally unbelievable.

The PC port is clearly the best version of V, with an almost surreal amount of refinement, graphics options, control tweaks, full Surround/Eyefinity support that even includes HUD movement to prevent bezel interference, and the much lauded and stunningly amazing First Person Mode. The open world is alive and constantly in motion, the game is absolutely beautiful, the dialog is sharp and accurate, and the amount of content is gigantic bordering on ridiculous. The minigames are better than, or at least very comparable to, the full game titles that inspired them, and there's so many!

The game does require a very powerful system to appreciate fully, but since when is that a negative? I'm extremely pleased that Rockstar pushed the envelope of what was possible, because the results speak for themselves. With the review system (specs below) I get steady 30fps through most every type of scene and location in the game, and that's with everything maxed out and vsync ON, except for FXAA instead of MSAA, and no reflection MSAA. Everything else totally maxed out and still 30fps @ 6040x1080. I think that at least merits a o_0, don't you? It's not a bad port at all, it's just got very high hardware requirements and people expect too much out of their old rigs.

I've only played the game 13 hours so far (a drop in the bucket considering how endless the game is) but the adventures I've had already were so insane and numerous that I can barely recount them all. Spontaneous Burt Reynolds two wheeled flat spinning pistol blazing police chases. Rush hour fender benders that resulted in multiple (hilarious) vehicular manslaughters. Moody train rides across the countryside. Fistfights with angry winos. Giving anyone and everyone The Finger. The first jewely store heist that by itself makes Payday 2 look like an insulting pile of crap. And these are just the first few bites of a massive, 27 course, impeccably prepared banquet of video gaming destruction.

So many developers getting lazy and greedy these days, but like Elzar the Neptunian Master Chef, Rockstar keep kicking it up another notch. BAM! Best 60 bucks I've ever spent on entertainment. I will play this masterpiece 300 hours or more... by next weekend. Truly GOTY, and one of the best video games of all time. For once, you can believe the hype.

    Review system: i2500k @ 4ghz, ASUS STRIX GTX 980 @ 6040x1080 bezel corrected, 16gb DDR3 1600, Intel 730 SSD, HTOMEGA Striker 7.1, Win7 x64

    ---------------

UPDATE 6/18/2015: 425 hours later I've beat the single player game and almost 100% it, leveled up my online character to level 121... and I still love GTA V to death.

Sure, Rockstar has failed miserably to curb online hacking, they don't listen to their own community, their patches add very little, the "exclusive content" they reserved for returning players is an insult and a slap in the face to those that have supported them for so long, multiplayer is a buggy and hacker filled mess with far too little exclusive content, the game itself still regularly freezes up on me for absolutely no reason at all, and they've been incredibly cynical about marketing their stupid cash cards that cost a fortune and add absolutely nothing to the game...

...but GTA V is still incredibly awesome. You simply can't deny how awesome it is. Sorry. Can't be done. Best GTA ever, one of the best PC games ever, the end.

The PC GTA V is hands down easily the best version with 60fps, 4k compatibility, technically the most sound, and with tons of flexibility and features that you simply do not get on the consoles.

Rockstar is in a class almost exclusively of it's own. 10/10

    Worth the wait!
In this era of poor quality ports, it's refreshing to get something on PC that has had a lot of work put into it to let the advantages of PC gaming shine. The game looks spectacular, playing at 65fps @ 2560x1440 everything maxed (except grass & AA), it almost looks photorealistic at times. At least the city, environment, and cars. The people still look like rubber. Edit:

The people still look like rubber. Edit: My specs are core i5-3570k @ 4.4ghz, AMD R9 280x 3g VRAM, 8GB RAM, SSD, Qnix 2560x1440 monitor @ 120hz.
Gameplay is a blast. I've put in over 100 hours - on single player. And still haven't finished. I've been taking my time, exploring, enjoying the activities and adventures. The level of detail, quality of models and textures, care put in, is all amazing. Take Dying Light as a comparison -- there are about 4 different building types, and about 10 different objects inside buildings, all looking the same (chest, basket, drawer, closet, first aid cabinet.) Still a fun game, but in GTA V I don't see models and texture being reused over and over. The massive, sprawling world is full of unique little nooks and crannies.
The Online portion is fun, but sessions are often ruined by hackers. It's best to just play with friends. It loads painfully slow (on my SSD no less), and starting heists, the best activity, can be difficult and time consuming to get people invited and successfully started. Same with the random jobs. Even if you get someone to join you, it loads painfully slow, and if they glitch out, you bomb back to Freemode with yet another long load time. Sadly it seems most people in Freemode are just running around death matching.
I didn't buy it for the online, but I consider it a huge bonus. At its best, GTA V Online, doing heists with competent friends WITH MICROPHONES, can be a totally wild gaming experience. Unfortunately only about 10% of people seem to have microphones, and they are crucial for coordination. Not to mention the goobs who bail halfway through a heist and bomb you back to Freemode. At its worst, GTA V Online is still somewhat entertaining; driving around and shooting at people and ramming them.

One of the best PC releases to date.

If you are having problems, that sucks, it's few and far between.

It has been a flawless release so far, no bugs no glitches. Everything ultra with well over 60 fps.

Despite some people having problems (which is inevitable on PC as everybody has different rigs on different operating systems), Rockstar have been very quick to fix any bugs that managed to slip through on release. This is a beautiful game, and the fact that PC gamers get the added bonus of a movie maker mode is a really tasty bonus that Rockstar did not have to throw in.

It was a 10/10 game on it's original release on the 360, and I'm grateful that they took the time to work on improving the game to make the most of PC hardware. It has the best physics engine of any game I've played, there is so much attention to detail in the city, and the AI pedestrians really make the place feel alive. Stellar voice acting and writing (if a little puerile, but that's part of the charm). My only complaint is the loading times between multiplayer jobs, but the single player alone warrants 10.10, it seems silly to mark something down for having extra features.

Considering how well the game looks, I'm surprised. The optimization was done so well. Driving in general is tons of fun, missions are hilarious and well thought out and the combat system is fantastic. The addition of first person mode is also a welcome treat.

To the haters, time to upgrade your internet connection and start using steam.

This version is superior to the console versions in every way. Probably the best release on PC in years, maybe since Battlefield 2/Diablo 2/Half Life 2. The game is very well optimized and has already been patched 2 or 3 times in the 2 weeks since release to fix crashes/bugs/minor performance issues. This is Rockstar's best release in their history.

All server wait times are faster, I don't get kicked incessently. A few issues trying to get in servers with crew members but they might have been full or something. I've seen some janky cars around during some missions but other than that smooth as hell. Graphics are gorgeous, first person shooting and driving feels fantastic. First person shooting feels just about as good as dedicated FPS's, but the game has so much more.

Single player is fantastic, online is fantastic. Loving finally getting to play this game with my PC friends. Brought my character over from consoles, went nuts on the server, drove my mental state into the abyss and spent about $30k in ammo. Worth every penny. get this game...thru steam.

I don't care they took 1.5 years to make it to PC or delayed it for 2 month. It was well worth the wait, and I'm even glad I got a much better game than the console version thanks to that.

I had some hiccups cracking open the game to play for the first 2 hours but that memory is long gone thanks to what was inside the game.

In the sea of crappy AAA titles copy-pasted every year with gazillion DLCs to milk the gamers to death, this game shines like a diamond so I just HAD to make a review of it.

GTA has been around since 1998 and a core franchise of Rockstar but there have been only 5 main titles yet, which says something.

Thank you Rockstar, not just for the wonderful game, but for the respect you've shown to us. 11/10
