Really took me back to San Andreas in its whole style. My favourite protagonist since CJ and some great dialogue, characters and missions. Definitely worth it and much better than The Lost and The Damned.

The plot is great and fun, with lots of new interesting characters, as well as cameos from the original game. The relations between Lois (the main character) and Gay Tony (his boss) are a very well-presented story of a friendship. If you own a GTA IV, or you just consider yourself a GTA fan, this one is a must-buy. Expand

The story is ok. It's not as good as TLAD and IV, but it's not bad. The changes in this game since IV are: Bass Jumping which is fun at first, then I never did it again, and Clubbing: I never would have thought how fun clubbing would be in a GTA game, but it is. There are lless problems than the PC port of IV, but there are still more than TLAD.

It's like GTA4 with extra spice. The colorful and lively night club setting in this expansion could not have been done any better. To no surprise, Rockstar games doesn't skimp out on interesting characters, dialogue and missions. Easily the best expansion for any GTA game ever, even over The Lost and Damned.

Rockstar have nailed it again. Finally, it's out of the testing grounds for the generation upgrade and into the real core of Grand Theft Auto. TBoGT is in every sense a true GTA game. In terms of mechanics, this is by far the best GTA game. The game engine is not only well-utilised in every sense, but the game design is also very intuitive. TBoGT is in every sense a true GTA game. In terms of mechanics, this is by far the best GTA game. The game engine is not only well-utilised in every sense, but the game design is also very intuitive. In terms of context, the characters are good, the story is definitely Grand Theft Auto and reflects the time it was released (2010) in its radio stations and dialogue. Controls are very solid (both keyboard-mouse and controller), shooting mechanics are fantastic, with the best ragdoll physics around. Driving mechanics are not realistic, but they are very fun and quite advanced for an open-world game. The new cars handle exactly how they should, given the real-life vehicles they're based on. "Trip skip", as known in San Andreas, is utilised to the max; checkpoints are placed sensibly and cutscenes are shown when you fail, rather than ending the level immediately. Graphics are actually improved on GTA IV (which already was one of the best looking open world games). They look sharper, more detailed from distance and much more colourful. But what really makes this game a big "wow" is that it adopts the modern convention of scoring you on each level, giving you benchmark challenges to beat for a high score (which go towards an achievement and leaderboard positions). Given the rich variety in level design for Grand Theft Auto games, this is an excellent addition which adds a lot of replay value to what would otherwise be an ordinary expansion (such as TLAD a five hour game at most). Criticisms? Given that it's an expansion, there's not much that isn't perfect. Compared to the original game, it's probably the best "additional content" ever conceived in gaming history. If you're a GTA fan, you will not be disappointed, regardless of how much you enjoyed GTA IV (unless you dislike the game mechanics & controls). The only thing you should watch out for is that some of the levels have annoying objectives which can be buggy at times. It feels different to GTA IV yet adopts its core gameplay. The whole scoring thing does seem odd in a GTA game if you're used to exploring at a leisurely pace and listening to all the dialogue etc. rather than trying to do it fast; but then again it does mean you can have two playthroughs and be satisfied. Don't get me wrong, this is definitely not San Andreas; don't be expecting godlike levels of variety or anything. There are side missions, but they're generally more focused on the context of the game's setting (as in GTA IV and TLAD) rather than a vast expanse to explore. The game feels like a more modern Scarface; kinda like Vice City but with a focus on nightclubs. TBoGT is very much focused on what's shown in the trailer. But if this is what Rockstar has to offer as a DLC rather than a full title, they really have outdone themselves. Expand

Rockstar has really disappointed this time. I was really enjoying this DLC but about 8 missions in a mission with Luis' mother (Momma's boy) the game has a glitch where the game will load indefinitely after the cutscene. Just a meh, cliche and far fetched story. The biggest disappointment for me with GTA IV and its DLC is the fact that the game presents itself as a gritty, realistic NY portrait but its missions are laughable and improbable. In the BoGT, Luis's mom borrows money from some douche and then you owe him... Then in the middle of a conversation the Chinese guy starts shooting. Just lame and boring.

Another good addition to GTA IV's already amazing package. This one takes a whole other tone compared to GTA IV with more humour and some pretty over the top missions that we used to have in San Andreas. Also here its interesting to see now all 3 main protagonists of GTA IV series crossing paths and seeing the main events of GTA IV and TLAD from Luis' view point.

Changing the usual mood of sillines, carelessness and craziness we got so used to in GTA franchise to the more grittier and reaslistic one in GTA IV was a brave move. Not everyone appreciated it though which didn't stop the game from becoming the best game of 2008. Many still consider GTA IV to have the best story and the best main character in the franchise but as much as some love this installment of GTA some really refuse to accept its "seriousness". So "The Ballad of Gay Tony" definitely was made with purpose to appeal to all the old GTA fans who are used more to over the top characters and holywood-like action sequnces and this DLC gives them exactly that. Mission-wise "The Lost and Damned" I still consider to be the strongest one among the "trilogy" but if we are talking about characters and story "TBoGT" is just head above everything else. Of course we also meet here already familiar characters to us from the main game and from "TLaD", tie all the loose ends and get answers to all the "plot holes" which were left open in the main game (as for example where did the diamonds go and who "stole" them?).

After completing "The Ballad of Gay Tony" you realize that you haven't just finished another DLC or another add-on to a main game, no - you realize you have finally, this time for sure, completed the whole game - a game which isn't called "GTA IV" but which is called "GTA IV: Episodes From Liberty City". In the end of the day "TLaD" and "TBoGT" don't feel like a cheap expansions of some main title - no, they are as good and as important as the main game with only one minor difference - the length. Sure, Nico Belic's story is as twice long as the both add-ons combined but I am not sure it really benefits from that. Maybe GTA IV could be a much better expereince if all the three stories were treated equally and had about the same length of about 15 hours each.

The novelties of this expansion are among other things: New songs, new vehicles, minigames, fighting, triathlons, base jumping, drug wars, club management and also the graphics improved in all its versions compared to gta iv and tlad

And also added new modes and features to online mode

This expansion closes the fantastic story of niko's gta iv, with the stories of the biker Johnny and the manager Luis López. Mixing three stories of liberty city where people are crazy and anything can happen.

The pc version has some optimization problems but it is fully playable and with the obvious improvements of pc it is the best platform to enjoy gta iv and its expansions

I think I'll play it again, I love it

GTA returns to its utmost craziness through a great and charming story.
  2. The tone of the story is, after all, quite a departure from the franchise's previous two outings. However, the amusing dialogue, fun gameplay, and delightfully absurd missions make this a must-buy for everyone, whether by download (in which case it requires a copy of GTA IV to run) or on disc with The Lost and Damned.
