God Mode is a wave shooter with some unique mechanics, that sadly falls short in many ways. It is broken, way too slow and gets repetitive quick because of the lack of content.

You play as a random dude from the modern age, that tries to escape the Greek underworld and eternal damnation by Hades. To achieve this, he needs to battle his way through a map with different waves of enemies. While I really liked the Greek atmosphere and enemies, it is a little misplaced that a random guy, without any backstory or ties to ancient Greece (as far as I can tell) is trapped there.

Although a simple wave shooter, God Mode has some unique features. At the start of a match, you can choose some passive penalties called oaths, which decrease ammo pickups, decrease your damage done or poisoning you when you take damage. The rewards for completing a stage with these oaths enabled is extra XP and gold, depending on the severity of the penalty.

Also, in each wave, a “Test of Faith” activates, giving you a penalty or bonus in that wave which can really help you out, but more commonly screws you over with sh!t like “one hit deaths for you and the monsters”, “Skeletons are much bigger and stronger”, “your ammo drains away” and many more.

Speaking of ammo, this is one of the biggest catastrophes of this game. You run out of it in seconds, can hold a pathetic amount of bullets and when you are out, it is game over. There are pickups, but on higher difficulties, it is still insultingly low what you get.

There is a serious lack of content in God Mode. You can choose six different maps and that’s it. No extra modes, no different approaches, just choose a map and go. After you played every map, the game becomes repetitive and boring, especially because you reach level 24 in no time.

The character models and the enemies are all greatly done. You got Minotaur’s, Cyclops, gladiators, ghouls and skeletons. Their detail, and the detail in the environment is incredible and it is such a shame that these amazing graphics and this level of artwork are used in such a bad game.

God Mode is plagued by stability issues. Game crashes, stuck loading screens, it is terrible. There is a fix however. Not a patch, not some sort of tweak, no, just set your graphics settings on low and you are good. Wait what? I never heard of a fix in which the graphics make the game playable.

The absolute worst aspect of this game, is the movement speed of your character. It is the slowest movement cycle I have ever experienced. The walk to the first portal on the Basilisk Pit level, in which you start the first wave, takes ten seconds, even tough it is right in front of you. A constipated sloth is faster than you and, I am sure that my own fat ass could outrun the playable character while crawling, with a bag of bricks tied to my back.

Then, after almost five years (with some breaks) that I owned, and sometimes played this game, I found out that you can sprint by holding down the space bar, which is used for rolls. The universe passed me by and new opportunities arose. Now, I could finally move faster and maybe last longer than five minutes. My hopes were in vain. When I sprinted through a level, with a horde of murderous cryptids behind me, I wanted to turn around to thin out the horde, but when turning, twenty spears, five axes and a mace were already planted deep in my face, all the enemies stuck to my butt like flies on a pile of sh!t. Not one inch of space was created by sprinting away from them..

I want to make a special note for the hit recovery time. It is just as bad as X-blades. You get clubbed down like a baby seal by the tree of a Cyclops and need to get back up. The animation that follows takes hours and hours. You slowly sit up right, you press your hand against the floor to lift yourself up, stand on one leg while the other is still getting up, finally stand up straight and after that, wiggle your head to shake of the dizziness. Do I need to explain what happened in the meantime? Of course, hundreds and hundreds of enemies are nicely rounded up in a circle around you and are sharpening their weapons; patiently waiting for you to finish your little act. When the animation is over, the club of the club of the Cyclops is violently rammed so hard into your rectum, that you do not even feel the forty spears and axes anymore, that mutilated your face and legs. The worst part about it is that you just know that it is over, but still need to watch the animation that is five seconds away from your violent death. It is just bad game design at another level.

So in the end, I liked the artwork, the graphics and fluent animations, but the game is just too repetitive, boring, sloooooow, blend and empty.

For this reason, I cannot recommend this game.

Plusem jest natomiast ogólny „lekki” klimat gry, który w połączeniu z zabawnym głosem narratora może się podobać. Although i haven't played God Mode, I did see the trailer on Steam. In the trailer, it showed beautiful maps, with a Greek mythology feel. I could easily see it as a cool adventure game. But then, I saw the gameplay. The game had the players be modern day solders, fighting against these zombie looking creatures, with modern day guns. The game is enjoyable in single-player mode in short bursts, but becomes quite repetitive. You're tasked with moving from arena to arena killing the demonic hordes it spawns, usually culminating in a boss fight. The game has 'mutators' that are randomly generated before each arena that lend the game some variety. The game is certainly best played co-operatively. It's worth noting that the difficulty does scale with the increase in player numbers. There are four(4) difficulty settings (fully updated game), six(6) different maps with four(4) arenas per map. The enemy variety is very good for a game of this kind. The gameplay tends to reflect realism more than arcade gameplay (slower reloading and evading animations); which can be a good or bad thing, depending on one's tastes. I recommend this game for those intending to play it with at least one co-operative partner. The game resembles the third-person arcade shooter game 'The Club'. Expand

It lacks choice for the character, it's very hard to make it "yours", and all your weapon-upgrades (which are highly necessary if you want to progress in this game at all...) are very expensive and locked both by price and the level of your character. The AI is so-so, controls are sluggish and slow, and battles easily become just a blur of effects and explosions an easy way to cover up that they aren't all that tactical or involving.
Buy if you must, it's good for a few hours of fun, but don't expect to be blown completely away with the level of gameplay here.

This game is TRASH. I have never been quite so upset as i have been from this game. From the day it came out players, including i, were having problems getting the game to work correctly. I spent hours trying to get it to work, when it finally would for a short stint, i would usually end up stuck in perpetual matchmaking due to the lack of other players online either due to the bad rap it had already received because of the issues with operation, or because of those issues themselves.

Now, the short amount of game time from the obscene amount of time i spent trying to play, was fairly decent. It's basically like any 3rd person arcade shooter really. There are a handful of purchasable upgrades, but nothing innovative about it. It could satisfy a shoot-em-up fix, that is if you could ever sit there long enough to actually be able to play. (i literally left the game on for 7+ hours one night when i fell asleep with it match making, it never found a match...)

After being able to actually play it for a little amount of sustained time a "patch" completely broke the game and now i can't even get to the main menu. Not like it would matter since i'm positive i still wouldn't ever be able to find a match. I'm so sick of the thought of this game anymore. Steam refuses to give a refund for this widely known-to-be-broken piece of trash. They basically responded by telling my to modify the source code, which besides being ridiculous to ask when i PAID FOR THE GAME, wouldn't even be possible if i didn't have visual studio already for the engineering classes i'm in. Oh, steam also deleted my thread on the game forums where i was pointing out that a refund needed to be supplied for this obviously broken game. It is not okay to expect your customers to fix your broken game when they paid good money for it, devs. Steam, it's not okay to sell a broken game and not stand behind the products you endorse.

Supreme disappointment abounds from this game. I must say, in that it's a pretty unique game.

Really surprised at the low scores for this game. I picked it up on Steam and have put in over 20 hours, maxing out level, acquiring God Mode, and maxing most weapons and abilities. It's a solid experience: simple, straightforward mechanics (run & gun), and a blast to play with friends. Reminds me of Warhammer 40K: Space Marine, in the way that it handles, which, for me, is a good thing. IReally surprised at the low scores for this game. You can increase the difficulty by tier (bronze, silver or gold) or by toggling modifiers (no for a greater challenge, with greater rewards. It looks good, it plays really, really well, and it's only $10. One concern, in it being multiplayer only, is availability of matches in the future if no one is playing. In the middle of writing this, I actually jumped on and was able to find a couple matches, which is a good sign.

It's hard to gauge what peoples expectations are on this, and most obscure, indie titles. Apparently, some people want it to be 'finished' or 'fleshed out', like it's some sort of incomplete project. I think it's exactly what the developers designed it to be, but maybe it's difficult for people to objectively analyze a game that doesn't fit the molds that they are used to. Unfortunate. If you are on the fence, I'd say give it a try. It's about or less than the cost of a 2 hour theatrical movie, depending on your region. Talk a friend into playing it with you, if you need to, but I think you'll find that it's time and money well spent.

First of all, despite my rating and complaints, I am having a blast playing this game. However, a few simple things keep this game from being amazing regardless of its price. Most of all is the matchmaking system, the queue times get extremely tedious way too fast. Second is the completely ridiculous fact that you get booted from a match if/when your last partner decides to leave. This is ridiculous, happens way too often, and will be the reason I stop playing God Mode. That being said, the very simple gameplay winds up being extraordinarily fun, they added some really intuitive touches to the arena style matches that make them unique. I also really like the "Oaths" system that allows you to handicap yourself for greater potential reward. Overall, for a 10 dollar game, this game could be a 9/10 if it fixed the two major issues involving co-op matches and matchmaking queues. It is just too important and annoying in a 100% co-op style game like this. I would also like to see much more customization and equipment options. I am disappointed in the lack of selection. Even for 10 bucks, these things need to be addressed in order to be a worthy rated game.

This lack of content leads to people stop playing soon after reaching the max level, this for it's side, leads to many time waiting in quick match room.
Or you find some friends to play or head to community hub on steam and wait to others on chat room for it's dedicated forum.
Still, the game really should be played and the makers really should release more content, from maps to weapons, enemies. Sure, nerfing some guns which are totally overpowered.
Also increasing it's overall difficulty, adding more foes as more people play together.
The highly number of crashes could be annoying, but they're being addressed with patches. And the voice chat should really be worked.

The game it's still good though and it simply plays as a co-op shooters against waves of enemies, in short arenas that will also give you these "tests" in which will give you buffs or debuffs, and in total a normal match will last around 20 or 30 minutes, even less. We have a good variety of weapons to use, from the simple shotgun to the minigun, and we will also be able to set a rage skill such as shield, healing, area damage, etc. And for last, we have the customization of the characters themselves, which is lacking but gives you enough to variate. That's all, and while it seems like a huge game, it's definitely simple and really short, and the content is just too few! There are only 5 matches in total, which are basically different from the themes more than the actual levels, and the matches, while being splitted into 3 difficulties, they are really far from being extremely hard. Infact, the only way to make the game hard, is to use the "pacts", which are self-indured debuffs that will give you much more money and exp, but will grant you some nasty debilitations that can make you weaker, like no armor, no skill, less ammmo, etc (and this is probably thought for some true co-op gaming with clans and such. I think). The weapon variety is good and we can also upgrade them with the gold we get during the matches (and at the end, with a test called Goldrush), but only a very few are good...and unfortunely you won't notice until you test them out, resulting on sticking with only a few weapons. The customization is barely decent, simply because the options are basically the same, just slightly modified, so be ready to see lots of clones! Aside from these lacks, I also can't stand some choices they took: you cannot mute your microphone for some reasons, which means that, usually, EVERY SINGLE PLAYER WILL MAKE AN UNBEARABLE AND UNSTOPPING NOISE, FOR ALL THE ENTIRE MATCH! Really? No mute choice? at least 90% of my matches I was listening to some rambling, to some people argueing in the back...and to the American Dad's theme??? This is a really simple option that should be granted, and not only that we really have to endure 30 minutes of random talks and stati noises. Also, you cannot write anything on the keyboard (at least I could never do that), and so the only way to communicate is using your microphone. Just like on consoles. Another issue, although not as big as the others, is that even if it's co-op, basically you're all all versus all, because the experience and the gold gained IS NOT SHARED! If it was intentional, well, I don't get it. We could have also used some kind of energy bars upon the others to see at least their health and armor, since a lot of times you can't understand if they are hurt or not, resulting in a lot of health/armor/ammo (and gold) thefts. With that said, it's not very bad and I do hope for some (good) upgrades in the futures, but as for now it's definitely lacking and really has some issues that could have be solved at launch. If you usually play with friends, this game can probably grant some good hours of fun. However, if you're a loner, you might get bored pretty quickly and this game won't last for long. Not horrible, but far from being complete, but for that price, I won't complain much more (at least a microphone mute option, pleaaaase!). Expand

Good game for the price, but many bugs (some game-breaking) and lack of content hold this back. As of now I'd give it a 6, if they fix the bugs and add a little more content (some more cosmetic upgrades and another weapon or two), and add dedicated servers and/or better matchmaking (right now it's only random quickmatch...acceptable for a console, but definitely not for a PC game) I'd giveGood game for the price, but many bugs (some game-breaking) and lack of content hold this back. Pros: Great graphics for a budget title, fun and fast paced horde-mode gameplay (waves of enemies coming at you), great game to play with 4 players

Cons: BUGS!!!!, poor matchmaking system severely limiting replayability, lack of content

I've been playing coop with a few friends; we've all played dozens if not hundreds of hours of Killing Floor. We can take and leave aspects from both games, but we've agreed the sum of all parts is about equally between the two games. I saw how badly this game scored on here and thought I'd chime in:

    Cons:
    - Always-on mic: Mute the other players. I know they should have added an option, but that's a simple solution.
    - Crashing: It's crashed probably once every 2 hours.
    - Somewhat weird level structure. Some maps have bosses; some don't.
    - Only 5 maps to choose from.

    Pros:
    - The tests of faith are often humorous and keep things fresh.
    - If you're one of the people complaining about difficulty, buck the it. It's painfully easy on bronze difficulty. Oaths are nice because you get to earn additional XP and gold for handicapping your character for a map. This effectively allows two players has have a range of difficulty while playing coop with each other.
    - Graphics, animations and AI movement are much more polished than the main competitor, Killing Floor.
    - Value. 'Nuff said.

    Neutral:
    - "Poor" amount of enemy variety nothing worse that 90% of shooters.
    - Leveling up takes much less time than it does in Killing Floor.

This game deserved better. When I saw it was under "The War Z" in Steam's Top Sellers list, I was awe-struck. If you look at the history of several users giving negative reviews, you can see that they often expect too much from AAA and B games like.

7.5/10 (Adjusted for turds like Gene and Drlron)

It's perfect to one third person game, the graphics are not surprising however are not bad. The gameplay is not bad however could be better. The game is cool for co-op, the abilities that can be shared with friends, and upgrades.

This game is far from an 8 or a 9 in my opinion.
It's definitely around a 5 or 6, it's not very creative and has you grind for any sort of pros throughout the game. I thought this would have more of story than the boring "Test of Faith" (example) rounds but is just that, nothing about a certain character.. So if you like stories just avoid this one period.

It's basically your thrown into rooms with monsters and you fight them off with whichever weapon you have at the current time, and don't expect to upgrade or buy new weapons for a really long time.

TO ALL OF YOU THAT ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS GAME OR EVEN CURIOUS ABOUT IT:

So here is the thing, this game is not for everyone. But anyone who even slightly likes it can't complain. It is $9.99 and if you end up playing it for 5 hours you paid 2 dollars an hour. Not bad considering I can pay more than that at Dave and Busters and have less fun in a loud environment. This game is

This game is really simple and that is all it was going for. The games developers did not hide anything. Running and gunning, A relatively simple RPG gun upgrade tree, and chaos. That is all they promised and delivered. The game is very fun.

As far as the bugs are concerned, they are extremely tolerable and expected, since right now the game has been out less than a week, and I have no doubt that they will be slowly ironed out. The game does lack a little smoothness, for example, sprinting/dodging, but even still, if anyone paid full price for Dead Island they have more to complain about. Bottom line, if you like crazy chaotic games that support coop, get it. It is so worth it.

For the price it's a pretty good game there are a few issue with it ofc: 42 fps cap, can't adjust FoV, mic always on, can't mute players, no dedicated servers (P2P)...

overall it's a good game for the price... and devs said that they will fix some of these issues with a patch, so they are not trying to make a quick cash and then gtfo.

if they actually support the game it totally worth it.

Money saving time! No point in buying this game. Especially considering you can play games like Warframe for free (and it's better than this thing).

Low budget doesn't have to mean bad, but it really is an incoherent spamfest that you pretty much have to play coop in order for it not to be utterly ridiculous. I don't know why others were motivated to continue playing so many better

Haven't yet been able to play a co-op game since no one one my friends list purchased this crap, but I still feel that it will not change the boring game play what so ever. The leveling up weapon system is a big joke its seems like its only there to keep you interested in playing the game and without that it would fail even more. The way the maps are setup and where you can go and the enemy can be, you'll find yourself looking up on top of one the building fixtures trying to shoot a crappy ass weapon a long distance in order to kill them and unable able to reach them. You start with the worst weapon so get use to that until you can purchase a better one which takes a long while and alot of yawning. The game tries to bring a changed to each map by making the enemies smaller, or changing your weapon every so many seconds and other attempts to change the way you play, but still does not make this game fun at all. Save your money or wait for a 75% off sale this way you will not be upset when you play this junk. Expand

Boring, bland, poorly made multi-player only third person shooter.

You and three other crappily designed characters wander around a small area that looks like it belongs more in one of Painkiller's many shovelware standalone expansions. You stand in place mostly, waiting for the same few enemies to pop up to be killed, then you get to move on and do the same. This isn't a $10 game.

This isn't a $10 game. There's about 40 minutes worth of content and a surprisingly long list of bugs compared to that small amount of content. Overall I'd say asking anything more than $2.50 is ridiculous.

God Mode feels like a free-to-play game that somehow got released without a trace of microtransactions. If you want to kill tons of monsters in co-op, better get Serious Sam 3: BFE.

God Mode is a likable run-of-the-mill effort that can offer a couple of enjoyable hours, but nothing more. [CD-Action 07/2013, p.64]

God Mode tries to vary, but fails to do so completely. It comes down to being a game in which you'll shoot a lot of enemies, mindlessly running towards you. Which is as exciting and original as it sounds: not at all.
