  1. Redeemed by its setting and style but in many other respects is a run-of-the-mill graphics-heavy 3D product that game companies can churn out in their sleep.
  2. Gladiators of Rome has ... well ... waiting, and waiting for what seems like an eternity in an action game.
  3. A quirky strategy game that's interesting to play--at least for a little while.

Controlling one gladiator is simple enough, but as soon as you add a few more, the game becomes almost impossible to manage.
  5. The idea is great, the execution poor. We can only hope that this is not the only treatment of the subject we'll see in computer gaming.

The game is simply not fun. There is too much of a clash between real time and turn-based strategy that translates into a magnitude of frustration.

There's little redeeming value to this poor knock-off. Maximus is spinning in his grave. [Jan 2003, p.106]

I give it a 5 out of 10 because: a) Cat Daddy gets props for creating a game on a cool idea (gladiators in ancient Rome); b) the selection of I give it a 5 out of 10 because: a) Cat Daddy gets props for creating a game on a cool idea (gladiators in ancient Rome); b) the selection of armor, slaves, and training options is good; c) your gladiator has lots of stats; d) its neat to zoom in and out on the arena during play, and the crowd does interact with your gladiators; e) it was $9.98 where I bought it. But it fails because: a) You have to right click and choose each time you want you gladiator to move/fight. For one guy, it's ok. For controlling three guys, it's stupid and impossible, especially when you're fighting five other guys and trying to defend someone else. b) Multiplayer is where this game would have rocked insanely, but sadly it's only single player. c) The graphics work your system hard if you have the average, storebought PC, even if it's brand new. d) Gladiator AI doesn't react when an enemy gladiator is two steps away, reaming him mercilessly. e) The game as a whole seems under-developed, incomplete, or something. Conclusion: It's good for road trips. Full Review »
