If playing for 15 mins per day counts as fun i would rate 9/10. Considering it does not count as fun for me, I will give this game a 0 because the game forces you to be unable to play after only 15 mins of game time by having nothing to do.

Good game in the early run but in the end you see how greedy of a company mihoyo is
-Outrageous prices, 200 dollars for 1 character thats crazy
-a stamina system that stops you from playing the way you want doesnt belong on pc
    -useless battlepass

Exploration is fun. I found it addictive and somewhat rewarding. The start of the game is easily 9 of 10 if not a full 10. Then the gacha mechanics start to kick in. The elemental combat system has been done and swapping characters to get elemental combos isn't really fun. The end game spiral abyss takes this mechanic to 11 requiring 2 teams to beat each floor.

    Again, it's probably

Again, it's probably a 9/10 if you just play for a while and quit when you get to end game (til a major content patch). Otherwise, there are better, cheaper games with similar end game. 1/10 for end game.

-Uninspired this is one of the biggest gripe i had with the game ,this might very well be the most uninspired game of this generation ,which says alot since this generation is so filled with uninspired games even worse than dark souls clone ,this however takes it to ridiculous heights even the damn map looks almost exactly the same as Botw ,it tries to steal so many gameplay mechanics from breath of the wild and sure this really does sound great on paper it ultimately fails miserably i will explain later on in this review ,it even steals some animations from nier automata and it has an uninspired anime artstyle to pander to weebs because they are the ultimate simps who will spend their money on an anime waifu.

-Gameplay mechanics are shallow and just dont work well together ,like the characters can do all sorts of flashy moves but god forbid if they sprint or climb their stamina will deplete ,this is kind of like the opposite of what nintendo does ,nintendo adds few gameplay mechanics and build an entire game around it ,GI however just shoehornes mechanics from very popular games and add gacha on top of it and just expects it to work ,elemental combos started out great but later on it just became awful ,same with RPG mechanics do you know why? because these mechanics have not been worked upon lack depth and are just added for the sake of more content.

-It just baffles me that reviewers and many people praise the story, im not expecting planescape torment or Disco Elysium but has the bar really been this low? the story is the most generic anime garbage i have seen in a while and unless you enjoy that stuff im not judging ofc ,the praise for this games story is as empty as this game.

-Awful dungeon and boss design this is part of my complaint on how the game shoehornes uninspired gameplay mechanics and expects it to work ,the dungeons suffer from the same thing.

-Enemies lack variety and are poorly designed

-side content/quest are mediocre at best ,poorly designed and will get repetitive later on

**** Endgame and resin system if you read most reviews here you will get what im saying so i dont think i will need to echo what everyone has already said countless of times.

Overall i only recommend this game if you want something for free and have literally NO game in the backlog you might even enjoy the first part of the game but ultimately it will fall apart later on ,i hope next time we see something that is original and has depth unlike this mess of a game

    Short answer:

It's a predatory microtransaction-riddled mess that lures people via the first few hours being decent. But it's actually a surprisingly shallow cashgrab for the gullible. It's genuinely not a good "game" and don't lt anyone tell you otherwise because it has fundamental core problems. Long Answer: The gameplay is one-dimensional and becomes stale shockingly fast.

    Long Answer:

The gameplay is one-dimensional and becomes stale shockingly fast.

It has no real identity of its own because it blatantly absorbs aspects from other games to try and have as much mass-appeal as possible to lure people in. A result of this is that it's all surface-level and most people realize this by the time they reach "Adventure Rank 30". Aka the ranking system from Pokemon Mystery Dungeon except turned into a slightly annoying grind instead of a tangible accomplishment.

It's literally a Mobile game. Right down to the oversimplified braindead controls and some awkward camera issues on mouse/keyboard. The graphics are also an obvious holdback of this too but less important. However. HOWEVER. Being a mobile game also means something else...

Lootboxes. The game is fully designed around lootboxes and trying to force the player to spend money. This is probably the single worst offender for this practice because it lures people in with the façade of a good game that doesn't really exist and then stonewalls progression if they get invested.

It is genuinely not a good game. Anyone who has a gambling addiction or suspected vulnerability towards it... Never play this "game". Keep children away from it. Keep everyone you can away from it. It sets a very bad precedent for game development.

Everything you want/need to do requires resin. Resin is their "Energy System" allowing for players to do content. EVERYTHING "meaningful" in this game requires resin. And even if you were to spend all your resin, you get like 20 minutes of game out of it a day. Trying to upgrade your characters is horrendous, there is no incentive on getting new chars because you can't even level them up. That's also gated behind resin, yes. As is gold. And character evolution mats. And weapon evolution mats. And talent upgrade mats. Even the WEEKLY bosses cost resin. Half of your daily maximum, mind you. The game forcefully limits the players to only playing around 20 minutes a day, doing "reasonable" progress, which pretty much diminishes to nothingness once you get to AR40. I do not recommend this game, in it's current state to anyone. In this worldwide pandemic we're currently in, they also put a gacha system in the game. New 5* characters cost approx. 400$ if you're really unlucky. That's a PS5. For one single unit. Did I mention that you need 7 copies of one character to max them out? So if you have really bad luck, you'd have to pay 2.8k $ to get one single 5* maxed. And then you gotta spend another truckload of cash to level them, get them gear and upgrade their talents. In this worldwide pandemic which has causes millions to lose their jobs. First causing a worldwide pandemic and then making a new shiny game with ridiculously predatory systems in it. Well played china, well played... Expand

The game is pro actively discouraging people from playing the game by barring content behind said stamina system and you only get to play the game for like 30mn daily. The system needs to be fixed before anyone can enjoy the game. Not even p2w in this game works because you have a limited amount of refreshes on the stamina. The studio got an insane amount of feedback on how bad the stamina system is during closed beta and yet they managed to make it worse on live. The game seems very promising but leaves a loooooooooooooooot to be desired.
The gacha system leaves a lot to be desired and pretty much gates you from playing new characters. For most content you can do it with the basic characters given for free to players but for the endgame (spiralling abyss), if you don't land some lucky rolls you are stuck in a wall and can't progress any further at which point even skill doesn't matter and the game becomes about which characters you acquired from the gacha.
Came with expectations, left with disappointment

For new players or people not used to the resin system is a stamina system, where you get 180 stamina/day with a cap of 120 (now a 160 with the next update). Basic activities require 20 resin, bosses are 40 and weekly bosses wich you can only fight once a week need 60 resin (yeah, they are gated with both time and resin). Once you are done with your resin all you can do is your daily quests, 4/day, wich are basic quests with a "go there, get/kill that, come back", about 10 min of actual gameplay. Then all you have is run arround the world and gather stuff/look for world chests. Thats it. Thats the game. Run away.

I enjoyed it as long as I could and I loved every minute I was able to. The music, the graphics, the sounds, the combat, the exploration, the secrets, the collectables, the achievements, it was all fun and I’ll always remember the positive points of my experience with Genshin Impact.

However I’m writing this to speak plainly about issues the game has had since Day 1. Issues that have yet to be fully addressed, explained, or resolved. The number one issue that’s been a hot topic for weeks now is Original Resin. Lackthereof or otherwise, this system is the largest obstacle for players to overcome once they reach a certain level, making it nearly impossible to progress meaningfully. There are a few other issues I would like to address as well.

    1: Original Resin
2: Low Gacha Rates / Wish System
    3: Lack of F2P PrimoGems
4: Lack of meaningful co-op experience
5: Lack of communication from Development Team/Staff

As of 10/22/2020, The developer conference post mentioned that Original Resin will be boosted from 120 to 160, and the required amount used for the weekly battlepass will be lowered. That’s all well and dandy, but I’d like to explain why this solution isn’t beneficial to the players or the game, and what could be done instead.

At the current regeneration rate, we receive 1 resin per 8 minutes. Even if the amount of resin we receive increases to 160, we are still capable of regenerating nearly 180 resin every 24 hours. While the new rate of 160 is nice, as it allows us to complete our daily mission in our battle pass, it does not actually allow for more game time due to resin costs being very high and regeneration being so slow. (Regeneration is so slow in-fact, I can often go to sleep and wake up and still not have my resin completely replenished. Adding a higher cap will only exacerbate this issue.)

Yes, I could refresh my resin with Fragile Resin but once I run out of fragile resin, refreshing takes primogems, which I barely have. I can rarely even make a single wish.

I do not want to waste my primogems on energy.

No one WANTS to waste their primogems on the energy system. And that’s where the problem lies. There is no REASONABLE incentive to spend the gems, therefore people won’t.

It really is a shame because I enjoy playing this game so much and I would love to spend more time with it, but once I complete my daily commissions and burn my resin, I am left with nothing to do other than gather random materials.

Because of the current limitations, I have been forced to explore every corner of Teyvat and I have found so many chests, seelies, and materials, that my world is almost ghostly. There is nothing left for me in my world. Unfortunately, this means I have nothing to do anymore. Since once my resin is used, I can’t farm character ascension materials of any kind.

All meaningful rewards are trapped behind resin. Exp, Mora, Talent Books, Weapon materials, character materials, etc. I have hundreds of all of the materials that I could possibly gather that don’t require resin simply because I am -forced- to do this if I want to keep spending time with the game. This by design, punishes the player who has the time to play for long sessions.

The Genshin community has repeatedly done the math and the amount of materials required to max even a single character is weeks of grinding materials. With a roster of 20+ characters and growing, it would take a year or two for me to see the roster all at the same level. Players can’t use the characters they paid you for simply because they do not have the resources available to them.

PS. Kudos on Nook from official discord who is wrote this. I just copy pasted a part from his doc.

Imagine a team of talented artists making a gorgeous game, but the game is unfortunately directed by the most out of touch director/team there is. The part where they copied from Breath of the Wild is awesome as expected, but every other part where there's business involved is awful.

The game expects you to pay, I mean it is balanced around players paying for its paid perks. If you don't, you'll just never have enough. They even had weekly quests that required you to pay to play more than their daily limit if you wanted to complete it, yes, there's a LIMIT to how many activities you can do daily. It's like they don't want players to play their game.

The gacha system itself isn't bad, but they chose to put atrocious rates. So expect to pay up to $200+ to have a 75% chance at getting a character you want. And then you probably won't have resources to use them, because they come at level 1 and your enemies will much stronger, and the only feasible way to level is to do your very LIMITED daily activities. So you have to choose to either spend your activities to level your new character, or continue leveling your high level ones who are probably doing all the heavy-lifting already to clear the same activities.

The pay to win in this game is, unfortunately, too much. You can see in many games where paying gives players a small boost/advantage to catch up with others and in my humble opinion that's fine, gives players who doesn't have too much time to play a way to keep up, but in Genshin there are items/systems that are only designed for PAYING players. There's a bunch of items that the only way to obtain is by paying, as well as skills/level-ups that are also only available if you pay (and pay a LOT by the way).

Their balance is also out of whack, in nearly everything they give as low resources as possible, you'll never have enough of anything to level your characters and their multiple systems that require leveling up, and there's a bunch of ways to purchase (real money) these resources you desperately need just to feel you're not being left behind. Enemies will keep getting stronger, and so must you, but you'll struggle to keep up unless you pay, that's how it's balanced.

The game is still in its infant stages, but a lot of these are complaints from players ever since their beta began and their direction did nothing to address these, so I hold very little hope they'll improve any time soon. Probably when their player base/profits sink so much then maybe they'll take a second look at these complaints again.

In short, it's a beautiful game with great gameplay (copied from a critically acclaimed game afterall) filled with poorly business decisions trying to squeeze money from players in every possible way.
It is free to play, but expect the usual scummy cheap mobile game money grabbing tactics limiting you to play in every way unless you pay. Just stay away from this for a couple years when they improve their game and check if it became a whale-only territory with 20 players online or an actually decent game.

But what does the game turn into after level 30? Stopped in, completed 4 daily quests, spent 120 resins, came in again in the evening and spent the remaining resin. That's all, that's all you can do here in lategame. And the company is very stingy with rewards after level 15, when you buy a monthly card, you will receive 150 stars per day, one spin costs 160. And events give you about 1-2 rolls. The chance of a 5 * hero is 0.6%, a guaranteed 5 * hero (or weapon) will fall to you only after 90 rolls, it's over 3 months! Well, and resin, which is simply never enough. 180 resin are given per day, this is enough for 9 dungeons or 3.5 elite bosses, and bosses and dungeons are completed in 2-5 minutes each. Therefore, everything is not as cool as it seems at first glance.

I'm currently AR lvl 38, almost 39. I've done most of the content that game offers, except abyssal dungeon (currently on floor 7-3). All story content ends at level 34 so you're left with 4 daily quests each day and 10 randomly spawned world events, if you've collected most of the games loot chests and other collectibles (geo fragments etc.)

I haven't used any money to this game and neither should you. The current way how the system works, you need constantly resin (this games energy). As a free to play player, you'll run out of resin within 15-30 minutes of gameplay (daily). It'll take 15 hours to recharge full energy. If you want to buy gems (premium currency) to get more resin, even with 100 euros purchase you'd run out of resin approx in span of a few hours if you're hardcore player.

The current monthly "subcription" that gives 90 primo gems daily feels borderline insulting if you think about the fact that it's only enough to refill your resin gauge by 60 points. Thats approx 1 elite boss, or 3 dungeons or 3 experience or money orbs that you can do / daily. You have to choose which content you're going to do, as energy isn't enough for all of it. All in all, that's about 15 minutes extra gameplay (daily).

I'll update my review score if things change for the better. This game would easily get 8/10 but as it currently stands I give it 4/10. I'd love to give some money to the developers to support otherwise fun and well crafted game, but the way they are currently handling games energy system it feels very predatory and unfair.

Trash monitization and greedy Chinese developers kill any potential for this game.

There is three problems (at 29 October of 2020), that are scorching my impressions on this game after my "honey month". I am not a whale, but dolphin (bought monthly subscription for primogems after first two weeks of satisfied gameplay). I am gonna explain, why you should afraid of this game. At least, at this state.

    1) Gacha rates are bad. I know, that this is just "casino" under

I am not a whale, but dolphin (bought monthly subscription for primogems after first two weeks of satisfied gameplay). I am gonna explain, why you should afraid of this game. At least, at this state.

    1) Gacha rates are bad.
I know, that this is just "casino" under cover of nice ARPG with cute 3D anime girls and good OST, but... Rates are really abysmal even for that kind of game. There is Fate: Grand Order, Arcknights, Fire Emblem: Heroes, Azur Lane and Girls Frontline. They all has really good drop rates for good heroes. What about this abomination? 0.5% for 5* hero and 95% for 3* weapon? Here it is, Johnny boy! Also count of primogems, that can be found in the game was hugely cut off since CBT.
    * * *
Possible Solution: MiHoYo can just increase rates and give us more primogems. That's all.

    2) Resin system is sucks.
Remember that deprecated and annoying "stamina system" from old browser and mobile games? This is it. You will need a huge amount of that piece of junk resource just for almost every activity in the game. Wanna treasure from Ley Line? 20 resin. Wanna treasure from event? 40 resin. Wanna treasure from elite boss? 60 resin. "Nice", isn't? You have only 120 of that crap. And believe me or not, but regen rate is very slow as turtle in the desert. What "MiHoYo" is gonna do about it? They just want to increase it to 160. "Nice". We need water and you give us just bigger bottle. Wow! What a pun!
    * * *
Possible Solution: MiHoYo can just get rid of that system, but they never do that, because many whales are just too stupid to buy resin thru primogems.

    3) Difficulty spikes and grind isn't fun at all.
Many cool quests are contained behind "AR wall". Adventure Rank is equivalent of Mastery Rank in Warframe. Completed quests, opened chests and almost all activities can give you small amount of it. But certain AR's gonna raise your World Level (WL in future). It's 20 and 30. And you know, what WL is doing? Here it is: All enemies, including bosses, are now has really huge amount of HP and attack. You will regret about it. And here comes the "favorite" grind: mora (local analogue of money)(because you will need this for everything), exp books (for lv-up characters), ores (for lv-up weapons), artifacts (they leveling only thru duplicates) and special materials from dungeons and bosses just for ascends.Every WL will be a hardcore wall for casual players, that just loves photo-mode and wants to do nice quests. Also, if your WL is very high and enemies around level 80, then you messed up, 'cause if you are too lucky to obtain new cute meta waifu from gacha, she will be level 0, so... Grind again! "Fun"!
    * * *
Possible Solution: MiHoYo can just make WL's unlockable thru special trial dungeons, that will contain mobs with levels from that WL. And after that players just can activate any unlocked WL. Wanna "good" loot and "funnier" mobs? Go ahead. Why all players (both whales and f2p's) need to go thru this hell? There is good example, like Steel Path in Warframe, difficulties in Diablo 3 (also errands in every region) and OP levels from Digistruct Peak of Borderlands 2.

If Genshin Impact was only for mobile phones ("Come one, guys! Don't you have phones?"), then OK. This "gaming" platform is already dead for me. But Genshin Impact is out not only for this platform, but for PS4 and PC and it's going to Nintendo Switch. This is unforgivable, 'cause it's gonna ruin gaming industry more, that EA with UbiSoft and Bethesda...

At this broken state i can't recommend this game to anyone. Seriously. There is just "Zelda: Breath Of The Wild". I don't care, will you play it on Nintendo Switch or just thru emulator. This game is really better. Gosh, i want even buy full priced AAA game like Genshin Impact, but without casino, resin system and stupid world levels. Indie developers! Where are you, when people needs you?

Rather than a typical online game, Genshin Impact resembles a traditional single-player jRPG with a real-time combat. For a free-to-play title it is very impressive, but turns out to be pretty derivative and quickly slumps into monotony. [13/2020, p.52]

Oh, the joy of exploring this beautiful world. Oh, the clever combat, the great voice acting, the compelling story. This is one of the best RPGs of the year. And it’s almost beyond comprehension that you can get it for free.

Overall, in spite of things that should bring Genshin Impact down, the game is so much fun to play that the negatives are ultimately minor gripes. [...] The gameplay is smooth and simplistic, and it works great on all platforms - though I’m still not sure why the PlayStation version can’t be linked to a Mihoyo account so I could play on my phone when I’m not at home (PS Vita version please??) but it’s a small gripe to an otherwise terrific game.
