    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I must admit, when this game released in 2019 I slept on it. After gears 4 I wasn't really as interested in Gears as I had been during the original Trilogy. After playing it again in 2023 here are my takes:

    Pros:

    - The campaign is structured well. You begin act one in a linear classic Gears style following mission objectives. Act 2 onwards turns into a semi-open world adventure but keeps the main story linear and it still feels like gears of war.

    - The camera and model sizes of both you and enemies are scaled much better than they were in Gears 4. Everything feels bigger.

    - The story directly follows Gears 4's ending.

    - Horde mode has had a massive rework, it adds locust, lambent and swarm to the enemy pools and gives us plenty of classes and subclasses to work with.

    - Versus is still as clean as an arena-shooter can be, it leaves behind the arcade-y gnasher brawl for a more grounded and strategized game, with plenty of game modes.

    Cons:

    - The amount of additions to horde mode can feel somewhat overwhelming. The cards, map layouts, defences, enemy types, round modifiers, round objectives, classes and scoring can all become a bit confusing to a newer player.

    - The choice towards the end of Act 4 feels a bit redundant as it's clear one decision will be cannon with the release of a sequel. This also takes away from the choice in the first place. I'd rather they just made a choice of who to kill and went with it rather than have us choose.

    - The 'escape' game mode seems to get rather stale quickly. Once you've done it once it's more or less the exact same. it's a good concept but hasn't been built on enough for variation.    … Expand

    This game is a step back from Gears 4, I know most people say Gears 4 is worse but I disagree, while some scene does look good here, the story is a bit of a mess.

    Best XBOX first party in the whole 8th generation. That is not too good, if I'm being honest, but Gears 5 itself is a great game. I really hope that Gears 6 can improve what we saw here as much as Gears 5 improved on Gears 4.

    Pretty mediocre rip-off of gears. 4 was pretty bad, relegating all the good characters we like to 2nd rate support roles, but this one which replaces big gruff wise cracking Marcus with a whiny annoying passive aggressive girl is just offensive. Who can honestly say they thought this character was likeable?

    Voice Acting is great. Graphics are great. Gameplay physics and general mechanics are also great/smooth. Generally speaking this game, with a bit more creativity, could be great. Now...for the not-so-great. While the mechanics run well there's no depth to them.     Now...for the not-so-great.
    While the mechanics run well there's no depth to them. When you die it doesn't feel like you have to rethink the situation. You don't need to flank or switch guns or use any sort of 'better' strategy. You just need to get more headshots. The gun variations don't seem to play a particularly useful role. Basically, defeating enemies is rather boring and when/if you die it's probably because you've just been lulled into complacency by the lack of challenge.

    Compare this to the combat/gameplay of Mass Effect 3 / Androm you have to wonder if the Gears devs just kind of gave up.

    Story wise it's a bit slow, big generic. I'm at the beginning of ACT 3 so I'll update this if I end up changing my mind.    … Expand

    Putting that aside, the campaing was only ok, the open world areas are a waste, trying to be a filler to an uninteresting campaing. It has some good firefights but overall aren't worthy. The difficulty on this game is based on how many want to screw/punish you on Campaign/horde/escape.

    Graphics are good but the general performance at least on PC is irregular, random stuttering during matches 'cause probably it loads custom weapon skins when they're pick up, if the game is on HDD like on Xbox One, there's a high time response causing such stuttering, also when bosses spawns, is annoying. The first years was horrible with random crashes and most sometimes BSOD, alongside the GW502 error, the only game with worse performance was Gears of War 4, common denominator: TC poor programming.

    Campaign DLC is very short, tasteless, you're about to get action too late. Too many sections where you only walk without sprint, you can't skip some of those dialogues ingame.

    Escape mode is entertaining but abuses on pretty generic assets, if isn't on ice levels, are factory levels, too boring see the same maps accommodated in different ways. The majority of claases aren't suitables for many hives, forcing you use some specific classes, for those skilled players isn't a issue, but actually if you like for example some class and want to use it on hives with huge disavantage, it won't be enjoyable after all. Those who beat all hives with the "worst" classes doesn't represent the average player trying to have fun in a sense not everybody have the same skill.

    Horde mode with daily modifiers present the same problem with only using certain classes to beat it more easily, despite that, is a disaster play a team based game with people that play the opposite, for example, an assault class that uses explosives, some players use it entirely as engineer, all because this bad game design is so open causing any player do whatever they want, not matter if they do it to the detriment of the team.

    Versus is a total mess, I didn't mention that PVE had several changes, some positives, other were for worst, in versus was the worst, the gunplay doesn't feel enjoyable, all related with competitive like earn rewards, rankings, etc. feels more like a full time job than actually enjoying a game.
    Maps designs only improved with the latest released, the rest are just generic artistically.

    The service model on this game is predatory, exclusive expensive skins and the majority of them are incomplete due the scorcher was added after. If you don't buy them, you can earn coins in an insane grind. The Iron is useless, only if you want to get the skins asap 1 week before the rest can earn them through playing, and you can't use it to get those exclusive skins like Chrome Steel.

    Talking about coins and iron, TC made something called boost, mainly to make more players addicted on focus only on level up asap, they made less events to make players buy this boost, otherwise it'll take a lot of time to level up, and there's some achievements for level up, so, basically pay for earn it.

    The grind to level up classes and cards are ridiculous, some necessary cards are unlocked after a lot of hours playing, if you want to go on faster, you need to play on Master, but of course if you play it without cards you'll be punished horribly, so playing in lower difficulties doesn't help due the horrible reward system, giving you repeated cards you don't need. In the first years of this game it was worse.

    Overall game only can be enjoyed with a close group of friends, but after all disasters there's no real incentive to play. TC made a bunch of players only focused on unlock stuffs, play for rewards instead of play for fun.

    In conclussion, is a irregular game, but with a very bad developer behind, poor costumer support, poor treatment to the user, random stuttering/crashes on high end PCs but being a minority, who cares? And finally the constant changes since the game was launched, different versus tuning, the change from heroes to classes, adding/removing stuffs in skill cards, etc. It just shows they have no f#@!cking idea on what to do. La jugabilidad está algo mejorada, pero en buena medida sigue siendo el mismo coger cobertura-disparar-moverse aJugué en su momento al Gears of War 1 y me pareció que su jugabilidad era aburrida y su historia poco interesante. Ahora, con la quinta parte, y tras haber disfrutado de Gears Tactics, decidí darle otra oportunidad a la saga y ver qué tal había evolucionado, y ha sido un error. La jugabilidad está algo mejorada, pero en buena medida sigue siendo el mismo coger cobertura-disparar-moverse a siguiente cobertura y poco más. Añade a eso que, si lo juegas en singleplayer, tienes que lidiar con que la IA de tus compañeros es extremadamente estúpida, a niveles de pegarse un tiro. La historia no está mal, pero tampoco es nada del otro mundo. El multijugador me ha parecido más interesante, especialmente el modo hordas y el sistema de progresión, pero acaba haciéndose repetitivo muy rápido.

    Gráficamente el juego cumple, pero personalmente nunca me gustó demasiado el diseño de personajes ni enemigos del universo Gears. El sonido también cumple bien. Y entonces llega la peor parte: los bugs. En PC, la optimización es nefasta, haciendo que el juego consuma una cantidad de recursos locos, se buguea de vez en cuando, los personajes se traban, etc. Y llegó al punto absurdo de que la cinemática del comienzo del acto 3 literalmente me cuelga el juego, aunque cambie la configuración y todo, haciendo imposible avanzar en la campaña pasado ese punto. Añade a eso unos controles que, en el mejor caso, se podrían definir como "caprichosos" y tienes un juego que, sin duda, se queda muy lejos de ser un buen juego.

    We played together with my wife.
    It was a lot of fun. I liked the game.
    The graphics are excellent, exciting battles, a lot of spectacular moments.
    The plot is difficult to evaluate, since I did not play the previous parts.

    İlk bitirdiğim gears oyunuydu .Seriyi bu oyunla sevdim başladım ama diğer gearslara göre daha vasat olduğunu düşünüyorum artık yinede kötü kesinlikle değil.

I admit that I made the mistake of starting the franchise with Gears 5, I should have at least started with 4, but then again, due to the introduction of Gears 5, I didn't think the story of 4 was a big deal. As for the original trilogy, I can't say anything about it.

    The story has a good pace and follows unexpected paths. The characters' relationships are very important in the story and the interactions between them, although brief, are good. And the characters themselves are nice. The choice of death between the two characters is very stupid, just to screw it up and we don't have a canonical history until the sixth game comes out.    … Expand

    Что понравилось
    - графика(4к текстуры кайф), - пафос - стрельба - Цена ( взял по скидке с -70%) - 1 и 4 акт Что не понравилось - 2 акт(как сюжет было интересно но бляха как-то так растянули что меня аж бесило слегка), - Ласт босс, как-то очень скучно. Вот 2 босс был очень интересный и ласт что-то вообще иззи - Как-то сюжет    Проходил игру на норме и наиграл около 20часов.

    La Historia esta entretenida como todas las anteriores dando progreso a la saga. Multiplayer lo mejor y mas divertido , modos y mapas clasicos.

    Como jugador ya veterano en la saga y habiéndome pasado todos y cada uno de los títulos tengo que decir que esté juego en especial sobretodo la historia me parece el que más innova de toda la saga.

    Quiero empezar resaltando el apartado gráfico que ya se nota que es una auténtica pasada al segundo, el esmero que ponen para cada entrega en este aspecto es un claro sobresaliente. Como    Como jugador ya veterano en la saga y habiéndome pasado todos y cada uno de los títulos tengo que decir que esté juego en especial sobretodo la historia me parece el que más innova de toda la saga.

    Quiero empezar resaltando el apartado gráfico que ya se nota que es una auténtica pasada al segundo, el esmero que ponen para cada entrega en este aspecto es un claro sobresaliente.

    Como novedades destaco la libertad que te da para que explores y te invita hacerlo en cada pantalla para ir mejorando a tu acompañante Jack o encontrar los diferentes coleccionables, o enemigos "élites" que tienen "barra de vida" y por supuesto el semi mundo abierto.

    Jugablemente es más de lo mismo que las otras entregas y no me quejo, si que en el online noté que la motosierra de la Lancer estaba bastante OP, llegué a ver alguna partida de gente que solo usaba la motosierra en el online y rompe bastante el juego.

    También hay una clara mejora en el sonido en especial el ambiental.

    Si te gusta la saga te gustará a pesar de todas las cosas innovadoras, que ya veremos si se quedan o no en el próximo título de la campaña, te deja con ganas de más y eso ya habla muy bien de este juego.    … Expand

    Gears of Opinionated Alt-Chick" is not what fans of the series want. Get woke, go broke. If you want to be successful, you have to cater to the fanbase that brought you the success you had, instead of catering to SJW's who don't even buy your games. There is nothing cringier than being forced to play some feminist savior in a game that used to be about testosterone and war.

    Amazing! The new elements make the experience much richer and more interesting. The best of all so far. Great mechanics, combat got much better and the story got deeper and deeper.

    When I think of a forgettable game I remember gears 5. I don't know if I played 4 just before 5 made me sick of the gameplay, which is almost the same, it's a good game, it applied a little exploration and such. But it's an average forgettable game.

The character roster is greatly expanded and far closer to the depth of previous installments than its barren state at launch. Previously retired store items can now be bought with coins, so FOMO is less of a concern now. Characters are now unlocked immediately when a skin is acquired and the Totem system is gone (thankfully). And perhaps most notably, Horde/Escape classes have been decoupled from characters. I gave this game a 5/10 at launch and I couldn't be happier to bump that up to a 9 now. It's incredibly refreshing to see a AAA developer listen to the community and steer a game in such a positive, consumer-friendly direction. If you've been gone from Gears for a while now, now is a great time to hop back on and check out the changes.… Expand

    Cool Game! Love the Campaign and adore the nee old Multiplayer modes! Runs super smooth on my PC and never had any issues except some small connection issues here and there.
    This game is gorgeous I mean the story mode is just perfect one of the best looking games of this generation.

    The Game is awesome, runs smooth, but has GPU crashes, error GW502 all the time, the new NVIDIA driver made it worse, for me now its not playable...what a waste.

    Campanha bem legal, com ótimo combate. A Kate é uma excelente personagem, pena que está rodeada de outros não tão interessantes. As fases são bem legais, compensa a parte mundo aberto, que já é bem desinteressante.
    Joguei pouco o multiplayer, então não considerei.

    Easily the worst game in the franchise. The open wolrd elements just drag out what's already a pretty dull and uninspired effort that more than outstays it's welcome. New mechanics don't really add much to the game and most boss fights are more tedious than ever.

    I really enjoyed it. Despite my RTX 2080 never reached the 20% mark, while my CPU was above 90%. Hope Gears 5 will use them both to the limit and deliver even more details.

For the first time in the series added some open world, which can not but rejoice. The graphics are just perfect! Online made very cool, you can probably play it for months. Every now and then an object would glitch hard and suddenly exist 5 times at once slightly shifted over eachother with different transparencies. But then Act 2 Chapter 5 happened and it applied to my entire screen. TheI give it 1/10 because that which I got to see of the story, I liked.     Gears is always a solid brand, the universe and lore is robust and hasn't really gone too far off track since its inception. The story is interesting and plays out like a soap opera and graphics for the most part are great. I also enjoy the ingenuity of the different types of guns, even though I usually just stuck with my trusty lancer and gnasher.     I'm having fun playing the campaign for the fifth installment of the game. So far I have been playing solo and it is still good. The story is interesting and Jack the drone is awesome as a support character. Its fun to find items to upgrade Jack. Though your AI friends are kinda dumb at certain point when I'm in pinch.     I mainly bought the game for Horde and Escape which I really enjoy, and have put a lot more hours in than I was expecting.
    The developers regularly update the game, adding new maps, characters and balance changes (pretty much all buffs)
    Also recently added a new currency you can earn in-game quite easily that you can use in the store for cosmetics.

    I would recommend buying this game on sale if you wanted to mostly play Horde or escape with a little of versus or campaign on the side. Bonus points to buy it if you wanted to play the campaign in co-op!    … Expand

Esta quinta parte retoma muchísimo de la anterior trilogía, espectacularidad, buenos gráficos, guión a la altura (con una gran narrativa), ritmo frenético, grandes combates y una jugabilidad muy depurada, la verdad es que si The Coallition sigue por este camino le esperan muy buenas entregas a la franquicia. Solo por poner dos puntos negativos estos serian 1) IA mejorable, especialmente en los aliados que van bastante a lo CoD, están hay para dar vida al guión pero en combate solo sirven para estorbar y pronunciar frases o advertencias obvias y 2) el juego se queda a mitad de la historia, esto no es del todo malo en mi opinión porque al menos no es como la historia del 4, que básicamente no entiendes que fue lo que quisieron mostrar (casi nada), pero si te deja con muchas ganas de más al finalizar la campaña y un deseo un poco insatisfecho de terminar y dar un cierre. Un juego que en mi opinión esta a la altura del 3 pero todavía no llega al 2 por lo anteriormente mencionado.… Expand

Кста если играть в коопе, то можно и играть за самого дрона. Разрабы явно вдохновились 4Хорошо оптимизированный с супер крутой графикой 5 часть шутера про перекатывания и укрытия. Разрабы решили разбавить геймплей тактичностью и добавили дрона, без которого не обойтись, т.к он октрывает вам все проходы. Но и в бою он пригодится, т.к может ослеплять врагов, давать броню и т.д. Кста если играть в коопе, то можно и играть за самого дрона. Разрабы явно вдохновились 4 анчартатодом, т.к 2 акта в игре происходит в открытом мире и вам надо передвигается на каких то воздушных санях. Мир естественно пустой, но красив и в некоторых местах бывает песчаные бури с молниями или буран. Кста песчанные бури напоминают безумного макса. Есть побочные задания, но они просты и коротки, типо включить маяк, станцию или помочь челикам. За выполнение побочек, вам дают топ стволы или улучшения для дрона. Кста дрон можно и нужно прокачивать т.к они полезен в бою. Мультиплеер на любителя, не каждому зайдет играть в сетевую где 99% процентов игроков с дробовиками, а большинство оружия мусор, т.к медленно убивают. Вы можете раз 10 в чела попасть, а он подбежит и ваншотнет вас с дроба. Орда интересный режим, можно на релаксичах побегать пострелять. Новый режим побег интересен, но быстро надоедает. Сюжет простой, но интересный и затягивает, а в конце будет неожиданный поворот. В итоге хочу сказать что игра хорошая, и очень красивая. Ждем продолжения… Expand

    Pretty visuals, solid gunplay, tight pacing and likeable characters. Main issue, much like Gears 4 is the feeling that the stakes and villains are a notable downgrade from the originals. Gears 5 continues the sequel series' failure to capture the hopelessness and grandeur that made the original series so impactful. At least Kait is a better protag compared to JD.

    Incredibly clumsy controls make the most of the game difficulty. Last boss is difficult only because of terrible controls, character stuck and fail to run properly. This makes it annoying and not challenging experience.

    Que pedazo de trolls dando ceros,este juego es de un 8 os guste o no es un muy buen juego en muchos sentidos,los puntos negativos son una mala IA de compañeros que aveces estorban mas que ayudan y un poco ya obsoleto sistema de combate pero con todo eso es un excelente juego de acción que para nada se merece un cero.

    Podría insultar o tirar cosas de la rabia, pero han dejado pasar una enorme oportunidad. GRAN retroceso del Gears of War 4, que me pareció un juego EXCELENTE.
    Calificación: 5/10. Bien MEDIOCRE, olvidable y MUY mejorable.

    Game was unplayable on my Windows 7 computer. It ran as slideshow. If I ever buy a Microsoft game, it will have to be on Xbox, not on PC.

    I played Gears 4, and now Gears 5 - I can say that Gears 5 evolve in every way from the predecessor: graphics, intense action, violence, history, scenarios. What I was more surprised with, was the history's drama and how attentive they were in regards to the history and the character development. The scenarios were also different enough to feel the difference from each chapter.     This review contains spoilers. Fanboyism aside go and look on STEAM to see what people that actually own the game think. Spoiler alert, its not good. Makes me also really wonder why the critics gave it such high scores...Something fishy is going on.

    My review: Its better than Gears 4 and the graphics is really top notch. However, the characters are extremely shallow and sometimes it feels like I am watching a bunch of teenagers stuck in big adult bodies.

    The story is immature when it needs to be mature. Sometimes a little maturity comes through, but as you enjoy the fresh air, it gets poisoned by some idiotic line or action a few seconds later. Its a lot of up and down weirdness that just makes you go. "Really?". Example: One scene Dave the robot receives love and care from a fellow team mate and then the next scene he is replaced by another robot and then suddenly nobody gives a **** about Dave. Sometimes it tried too hard to be deep, but instead, came off as pretentious.

    Levels look great, but its basically just that. Invisible walls, doors that can only be opened by a robot, and then suddenly the same door, just around the corner can be opened by the player makes you just go, "wtf?". It seemed they tried to combine some action types of sequences like we have seen with other major titles like Uncharted and God of War for example, but it feels half baked.

    I enjoyed the cutscenes, the explosions and all that. But boy, I hated the characters, the story in general and the annoying little things in the level design as mentioned above. One would think with all the money that goes into making the game look beautiful, at least some decent amount would be put aside for a proper writer...but that is clearly not the case.

    It has made some improvements and I think the idea was right. However, the execution is poor and I do not recommend paying full retail price. Get it on game pass or with a 50%+ discount.    … Collapse
