    I played Gears 4, and now Gears 5 - I can say that Gears 5 evolve in every way from the predecessor: graphics, intense action, violence, history, scenarios. What I was more surprised with, was the history's drama and how attentive they were in regards to the history and the character development. The scenarios were also different enough to feel the difference from each chapter. AmazingI played Gears 4, and now Gears 5 - I can say that Gears 5 evolve in every way from the predecessor: graphics, intense action, violence, history, scenarios.     Gears 5 sports an interesting and engaging campaign with acting and cinematography worthy of its triple-A title. It is also made with impressive levels of optimisation while still being visual appealing. Gears 5 is fun, chaotic, and engaging; I don't see why anyone who likes to play third person cover shooters wouldn't buy this, franchise newcomers and veterans alike.

    I enjoyed it. It was much like all the other gears games. Not much different mechanically. But the story was interesting. I'd like to see them finally ditch the 3rd person view and go with a 1st person view to mix things up a bit and try something more refreshing to the series.

    Хорошо оптимизированный с супер крутой графикой 5 часть шутера про перекатывания и укрытия. Разрабы решили разбавить геймплей тактичностью и добавили дрона, без которого не обойтись, т.к он октрывает вам все проходы. Но и в бою он пригодится, т.к может ослеплять врагов, давать броню и т.д. Кста если играть в коопе, то можно и играть за самого дрона. Разрабы явно вдохновились 4Хорошо оптимизированный с супер крутой графикой 5 часть шутера про перекатывания и укрытия. Разрабы явно вдохновились 4 анчартатодом, т.к 2 акта в игре происходит в открытом мире и вам надо передвигается на каких то воздушных санях. Мир естественно пустой, но красив и в некоторых местах бывает песчаные бури с молниями или буран. Кста песчанные бури напоминают безумного макса. Есть побочные задания, но они просты и коротки, типо включить маяк, станцию или помочь челикам. За выполнение побочек, вам дают топ стволы или улучшения для дрона. Кста дрон можно и нужно прокачивать т.к они полезен в бою. Мультиплеер на любителя, не каждому зайдет играть в сетевую где 99% процентов игроков с дробовиками, а большинство оружия мусор, т.к медленно убивают. Вы можете раз 10 в чела попасть, а он подбежит и ваншотнет вас с дроба. Орда интересный режим, можно на релаксичах побегать пострелять. Новый режим побег интересен, но быстро надоедает. Сюжет простой, но интересный и затягивает, а в конце будет неожиданный поворот. В итоге хочу сказать что игра хорошая, и очень красивая. Ждем продолжения… Expand

    Me hizo emocionar con su gran historia, tiroteos dignos de la franquicia, pura diversión, lamentablemente me pasé la campaña con el bug de texturas borrosas, entorpeciendo el disfrute visual.

    Que pedazo de trolls dando ceros,este juego es de un 8 os guste o no es un muy buen juego en muchos sentidos,los puntos negativos son una mala IA de compañeros que aveces estorban mas que ayudan y un poco ya obsoleto sistema de combate pero con todo eso es un excelente juego de acción que para nada se merece un cero.

    The game has a good coop campaign and after playing borderlands 3, I can only say that the devs have outdone themselfs in therms of performance. It looks beautiful and it runs awesome. The reason why this is only an 8 is because they hyped the escape mode way too much, for what it actually is.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This review is 90% campaign (on INSANE mode), and 10% multiplayer. Gears 5 is a good game.

    Easy stuff first. Soundtrack is okay. Sound design is very good (you never get tired of the meaty CRUNCH of headshot kills; guns sound good). Graphics are really really good - optimization is surprisingly good, too (ran at +80 FPS on my GTX1070 and i7-8700k). On top of graphics, world design is really really good - every place you visit is screenshot-worthy; there is so much detail to look at in the world around you. The bases, offices, and rooms you visit all look like they actually were functioning once. Gameplay is great - it never gets tiring to run, hide behind cover, and pop some monster heads. The story is...very meh. I'll talk more about the story below. All in all, this is a very fun single-player experience. The gameplay and the beautifully realized world the devs built keep you coming back for more...even if the story sucks. The multiplayer is icing on the cake, in case you want more Gears of War gaming even after you've finished the campaign.

    So the story. It's...not very good. There are many, many moments that really break your immersion. For example, why does Kait and her gang have so much freedom? They're part of a military organization! I'm not a military employee or something; but even as a civilian, I look at the things that Kait and co. are free to do and I'm like "WTF? Don't they need clearance to do that? Can't they get court-martial-ed for disobeying orders?". Additionally, the things Kait and company are doing are actually EXTREMELY important for the survival of mankind, so...where is the rest of COG? Why don't they help? Why doesn't the chain of command bother to know or even care about what's happening?
    More story issues. In chapter 2, Kait decides to go AWOL and they just...let her? Don't get me wrong, Kait clearly has telepathic links to the Swarm, so yes, THE AUDIENCE knows that she has a good reason...but in the game, she literally does NOT explain this to JD and the gang. She effectively just says "I'm going and that's THAT! Because reasons!!!" and JD kinda just goes..."But!...okay, I guess.". It's really, really, dumb writing. And then there's this weird decision to make you play chapter 1 as JD...only to shift the story to Kait at chapter 2. The narrative disconnect between chapter 1 and 2 is MASSIVE. The only meaningful thing that happened in chapter 1 is that JD took a tactical risk that got Carmine killed, which made him a stone-cold, by-the-books kind of soldier. This stuff about JD's character development sounds good, until we see him again in chapter 3 and...he's pretty much the same? Throughout chapter 2, Kait and Del are saying stuff like "man, will JD ever be the same again?...", "JD took Carmine's death really hard..."; but when you see him again he is LITERALLY the same again. He is the exact same JD from chapter 1. The only thing different about him now is his arm is burnt and he's bald, which is cool, I guess? Basically once you hit chapter 3, you realize chapter 1 was a wasted narrative.
    And then!!! You hit chapter 4. You have to make a terrible choice - save Del or JD? But...why? Literally, why??? This choice scene starts with an earthquake which robs Del, JD, and Kait of all NINE OF THEIR MAG-LOCKED WEAPONS. After all the tumbling, rolling, and falling you have done for THREE CHAPTERS, YOUR WEAPONS HAVE NEVER EVER FALLEN OFF YOUR BACK OR HIP. So now the audience is just supposed to accept that "oh no! all are magnetically-locked weapons on our armor were shaken of by an earthquake! we are weaponless now! the tension is SO HIGH!"...stupid stupid writing. So yeah, defenseless, the Swarm Queen (using Kait's mom's body) or something approaches Kait. Swarm Queen attacks Del, JD, and Kait. She has her deadly tentacles around their necks, and she has them cornered. She can kill them now, easily, if she wanted. But for some reason, when she sees you have a knife, she gives you a choice? Save JD or Del? And then after you make your choice, she says "you made your choice! NOW DIE WITH IT!". Huh??? She made you choose who to save, then will kill you BOTH anyway? So many questions! Why did she give us a choice in the first place, only to leave us to die anyway? Why approach Kait without making her intentions clear? What was the point of all of this? This whole scene was so abruptly stupid that I scoffed when I watched it happen. It almost feels like some executive sat-in one day and had "this really cool idea for the story" and the devs were forced to implement it last-minute. It's so freaking dumb. To add insult to narrative injury, once you are buried by the earthquake, YOU AND JD/DEL HAVE PISTOLS AGAIN. My goodness!

    Anyway, yeah. The gameplay is SO GOOD that the game gets a hard pass for it's atrociously bad story. Play it. Turn off your brain, alt-tab when there are cutscenes, and just enjoy the gameplay.    … Expand

    Сюжетная кампания куда веселее и увлекательнее, чем в «Gears of War 4», которую прошел год тому назад. В целом всё куда разнообразнее в плане локаций, ситуаций и прочего. Есть пара-тройка новых механик, которые неплохо смотрятся, но реализованы довольно слабо, что стелс, что опенворлд. Остается надеяться, что условная 6-рка продвинется в этом аспекте куда дальше и    «Gears 5» в целом ОК.

    Сюжетная кампания куда веселее и увлекательнее, чем в «Gears of War 4», которую прошел год тому назад. В целом всё куда разнообразнее в плане локаций, ситуаций и прочего. Есть пара-тройка новых механик, которые неплохо смотрятся, но реализованы довольно слабо, что стелс, что опенворлд. Остается надеяться, что условная 6-рка продвинется в этом аспекте куда дальше и лучше. Ну и да, финал типичной трилогии или чего такого оставляет смешанные впечатления от оборванного клиффхэнгера и условного “to be continued”, которое придется ждать года 3. Ну и дизайн новой трилогии всё так же не цепляет.

    Неплохо освежили мультиплеер. Никогда не любил «Horde», к нему же отправляется «Escape», вроде любопытный новый режим, но не для меня. А вот классический «Versus» за счет повышенной скорости и TTK прям заиграл новыми красками, дико протащился с этого режима, хотя раньше не особо ценил мультиплеер серии.

    Спорная техническая составляющая ПК-версии периодически портила впечатления.    … Expand

    I played early acces and I must say its very very good optimized.. like insanely good. Love the game.. only downpart is that the servers and loading stats after a match a really wonky..

    - Game has so many anger inducing wtf moments where you will get instantly killed or something doesn't work properly

    I mainly bought the game for Horde and Escape which I really enjoy, and have put a lot more hours in than I was expecting.
    The developers regularly update the game, adding new maps, characters and balance changes (pretty much all buffs)
    Also recently added a new currency you can earn in-game quite easily that you can use in the store for cosmetics.

    I would recommend buying this game on sale if you wanted to mostly play Horde or escape with a little of versus or campaign on the side. Bonus points to buy it if you wanted to play the campaign in co-op!    … Expand

This is one of the best looking games on PC. It also performs amazingly well. Great optimization.

    However, you should ignore the massive influx of 10/10 user reviews that have shown up on Xbox One version of the game and may show up here. On September 7 the Xbox One version of this game had 549 user reviews, most of them 10s, and 851 ratings. This would mean 2/3rds of the people who rated the game left reviews(most of them 10s), which simply doesn't happen, especially since there aren't enough Xbox One fans to leave so many reviews in such a short time. These are undoubtably paid shills probably using bots to leave huge amounts of positive reviews. It's simply impossible to trust Metacritic scores any more now that shilling has become such a big business on the internet and Metacritic is the perfect place for it.

    That said, some people will love this game. And if you want something to melt your new RTX GPU, you can't go wrong with this.    … Expand

    And XBOX used their best game this generation to do it.

    If you haven't figured it out yet Kait is Gears new lead. Not just Gears 5 but seemingly Gears of War itself. The Coalition decided that Kait, not JD Fenix or his best friend Dell, is the successor to the Lancer wielding, curb stomping, Marcus Fenix legacy. For reasons that are not too hard to imagine in a western world obsessed with politically correct sentiment.

    It's not hard to envision development teams and even executive boardrooms filled with castrated males trying not to offend the women around them when it comes to the creation of a narrative like this. It is obvious that female inclusion and visibility, no matter how masculine the premise, is all that matters and it's brotherhood be damned from here on out.

    In fact, they are so serious about this, they force you the player to be complicit in killing off brotherhood in Gears 5 by literally having you choose... Spoiler Incoming

    which bro's neck to break so that a woman has a place on the two man squad forever. Making the overwhelmingly male player base (especially the young ones) an accomplice to the death of brotherhood is psychologically masterful. Showing how serious modern developers are in their activism.
    Gears campaign from it's inception was built upon the hyper masculine. It was a Band of Brothers on a colony world. And now... It's a vehicle used to preach female empowerment to young impressionable males under the guise of diversity. It's obvious that a growing number of developers consider masculinity and brotherhood toxic and The Coalition is no exception. Meaning to correct it by any means necessary even it means gambling their best game in years to do it.    … Expand

    funnier and a bit improved and better version of gears 4. i liked gears 4 so i will give 8 points. Game is pure action and will be forgotten but the game is great.

    I finished game a few days ago I love the story its not perfect but its good.The game mechanics are as it's supposed to be in a shooter.its not perfect buts its a good game.You should play it.

    İlk bitirdiğim gears oyunuydu .Seriyi bu oyunla sevdim başladım ama diğer gearslara göre daha vasat olduğunu düşünüyorum artık yinede kötü kesinlikle değil.

    Como jugador ya veterano en la saga y habiéndome pasado todos y cada uno de los títulos tengo que decir que esté juego en especial sobretodo la historia me parece el que más innova de toda la saga.

    Quiero empezar resaltando el apartado gráfico que ya se nota que es una auténtica pasada al segundo, el esmero que ponen para cada entrega en este aspecto es un claro sobresaliente. Como    Como jugador ya veterano en la saga y habiéndome pasado todos y cada uno de los títulos tengo que decir que esté juego en especial sobretodo la historia me parece el que más innova de toda la saga.

    Quiero empezar resaltando el apartado gráfico que ya se nota que es una auténtica pasada al segundo, el esmero que ponen para cada entrega en este aspecto es un claro sobresaliente.

    Como novedades destaco la libertad que te da para que explores y te invita hacerlo en cada pantalla para ir mejorando a tu acompañante Jack o encontrar los diferentes coleccionables, o enemigos "élites" que tienen "barra de vida" y por supuesto el semi mundo abierto.

    Jugablemente es más de lo mismo que las otras entregas y no me quejo, si que en el online noté que la motosierra de la Lancer estaba bastante OP, llegué a ver alguna partida de gente que solo usaba la motosierra en el online y rompe bastante el juego.

    También hay una clara mejora en el sonido en especial el ambiental.

    Si te gusta la saga te gustará a pesar de todas las cosas innovadoras, que ya veremos si se quedan o no en el próximo título de la campaña, te deja con ganas de más y eso ya habla muy bien de este juego.    … Expand

    Este Gers 5 gana a su antecesor en todos los aspectos(Bosses, dificultad, espectacularidad, historia...) gráficamente es uno de los mejores juegos del año y resulta muy divertido.
    Mantiene, a mi parecer, los mismos "defectos" de esta IP como son:
    - Pasa por la historia de forma superficial( Creo que este universo tiene un "lore" tremendo muy desaprovechado). Me hubiera encantado saber más de Kate (y su relación con el enjambre) y sobre todo de JD y su cambio de personalidad.
    - Lo injustificado de ciertas situaciones( El problema no es estar toda la partida de tiroteo en tiroteo porque son geniales, el problema es la (no) justificación de estar permanentemente haciendo frente a oleadas de enemigos.). Si bien es cierto que en los capítulos 2 y 3 con escenarios más abiertos esto está más acotado.

    Un juego tremendo, muy bien llevado y muy entretenido. Recomendado para pasar buenos ratos, disfrutar de su espectacularidad y no calentarse mucho la cabeza.    … Expand

    Stále ta stejná drsná rubačka jako dříve a konečně na Steamu. Gears 5 je opět jedna z nejlepších akčních her z pohledu třetí osoby a jedna z nejlepších tower defence akcí na trhu. Multiplayer skvělí, kampaň na insane obtížnost skoro nehratelná. Vskutku skvělá akční hra s výbornou grafikou i když má pár bolístek, na které rád upozorním.
    Totálně nepřehledné prostředí v menu pro začátečníky    Stále ta stejná drsná rubačka jako dříve a konečně na Steamu. Gears 5 je opět jedna z nejlepších akčních her z pohledu třetí osoby a jedna z nejlepších tower defence akcí na trhu. Multiplayer skvělí, kampaň na insane obtížnost skoro nehratelná. Vskutku skvělá akční hra s výbornou grafikou i když má pár bolístek, na které rád upozorním.
    Totálně nepřehledné prostředí v menu pro začátečníky a naprosto stupidní tutoriál zcela zbytečný. Matchmaking nefunkční. Crossplay, který měl hře pomoci, ji spíše topí. Poslední blbina je Store kde opravdu vše nestojí zato.
    Hodně promyslete jestli si Gears 5 koupíte a když nemáte kámoše ušetřím vám čas, nekupujte to.    … Expand

    Поставил 8, но реальная оценка игре 7.5/10. Попытка ответить крупным сюжетным сингплеерным «эксклюзивом» на сониевские неплоха, но ей не хватает вылизанности, какой-то завершенности оных. Когда прошел финальный боссфайт я думал, что игра пойдет дальше, но оказалось это финал, как-то неожиданно сюжет обрубили. Очевидно, что это жирнючий намек на продолжение, но могли бы как-то поизящнейПоставил 8, но реальная оценка игре 7.5/10. Попытка ответить крупным сюжетным сингплеерным «эксклюзивом» на сониевские неплоха, но ей не хватает вылизанности, какой-то завершенности оных.     Campanha bem legal, com ótimo combate. A Kate é uma excelente personagem, pena que está rodeada de outros não tão interessantes. As fases são bem legais, compensa a parte mundo aberto, que já é bem desinteressante.
    Joguei pouco o multiplayer, então não considerei.

    Best XBOX first party in the whole 8th generation. That is not too good, if I'm being honest, but Gears 5 itself is a great game. I really hope that Gears 6 can improve what we saw here as much as Gears 5 improved on Gears 4.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I must admit, when this game released in 2019 I slept on it. After gears 4 I wasn't really as interested in Gears as I had been during the original Trilogy. After playing it again in 2023 here are my takes:

    Pros:

    - The campaign is structured well. You begin act one in a linear classic Gears style following mission objectives. Act 2 onwards turns into a semi-open world adventure but keeps the main story linear and it still feels like gears of war.

    - The camera and model sizes of both you and enemies are scaled much better than they were in Gears 4. Everything feels bigger.

    - The story directly follows Gears 4's ending.

    - Horde mode has had a massive rework, it adds locust, lambent and swarm to the enemy pools and gives us plenty of classes and subclasses to work with.

    - Versus is still as clean as an arena-shooter can be, it leaves behind the arcade-y gnasher brawl for a more grounded and strategized game, with plenty of game modes.

    Cons:

    - The amount of additions to horde mode can feel somewhat overwhelming. The cards, map layouts, defences, enemy types, round modifiers, round objectives, classes and scoring can all become a bit confusing to a newer player.

    - The choice towards the end of Act 4 feels a bit redundant as it's clear one decision will be cannon with the release of a sequel. This also takes away from the choice in the first place. I'd rather they just made a choice of who to kill and went with it rather than have us choose.

    - The 'escape' game mode seems to get rather stale quickly. Once you've done it once it's more or less the exact same. it's a good concept but hasn't been built on enough for variation.    … Expand

    it is fun game with nice visuals.. This game is a great treat for Gears of War fans. Lots of shooting and intense action from beginning to the end. There is not much in Gears 5 that we have not seen it in previous Gears of War games. It is good game, just not great. The game is well optimized. it runs close to 60FPS @ 1080p on my Ryzen 3400g with Vega 11 integrated graphics.

    I remember in the xbox/ps2 era, i always wanted to play gears of war. i loved my ps2 and i wouldnt trade it for anything, but there always were some games from other consoles i'd like to play, right?
    well, like 15 years(?) have passed and i finally played a GoWar game.
    unfortunately i started with the worst one, according to reviews everywhere.
    still i can only imagine what the first one may have been, if it was anything like this one, i can totally understand the hype (then), and i can also understand the hate (now).
    just an okay game, for me. nothing memorable (except maybe the cruelty they throw at the player, making us choose, literally, who of our friends would die. thats a bold move.

    Secondly, the scrap system that unlocks certain things in the game is also pushing players to pay money by being very convoluted. You can play for two and a half hours in multiplayer and you might get 5 scrap. The cheapest unlocks are about 40 scrap. And the good basic unlocks are about 100. Also, fairly shady, Microsoft!

    Thirdly, long time Gears players could find themselves annoyed by the number of minor changes and subtle differences in gameplay in this installment until they become used to them.

    I wasn’t too attached or interested after the intial run down, but still hyped for the gameplay, the tutroal starts, the game is having me look up to determine my input preferences, that alone had me excited for how neat this game was going to be…
    But I just never was blown away…
    The story telling and level design is just so bland.. nothing took my breath away or made me feel like wow, this is what ive been missing all of these years… I do love the weapon variety.. but when it comes down to combat, controls here are so unintuitive that it just constantly pulls you out of the game…
    its okay to have the same control scheme as call of duty… they have it down… I don’t want to hold a buttown down to run, let me just click my stick… the fast reload mechanic makes you take your eye off of the action.. all of the mechanic decisions just makes me feel like Im juggling as Im shooting.
    Throughout this 12 hour campaign yo udo have a little squad with you that changes as the story progresses.. and these members can be controlled by real people locally and online…which is what I highly advise…
    As the ai here is completely useless…
    Dels the type of guy to yell “nows our chance shoot his back!” And not do ****
    Amking these drawnout unfun boss battles even more unfun and frustrating at times as you die over and over…

    That’s probably because im the only one of use shooting any bullets.
    Who isn’t useless though is your robot companion jack…
    He sticks with you through the end as youre searching the world to upgrade his abilities that are unlocked as the story progresses…
    back to the mechanics issues though.. shuffling through jacks abilities mid combat or even post or pre combat is unintuitive and feels like a jumbled jumbled mess
    but jack is easily my favorite part of this game…
    Its just a shame that jack is the only incentive to explore though…
    The world and level design here in Gears 5 again is just so bland, so uninteresting and boring…
    there are a couple open world sections of the game where you can go explore a little if youd like.. but again.. nothing about this world made me care to do so…
    another giant issue I had with this games campaign is its awful progression indicators in story…
    don’t dare pause the game and com back to it later, because youl lhave no idea what youre supposed to be doing… Gears 5 does put little markers on the map for you to go to… but I would much prefer they put them on items im supposed to be interacting with instead of running around in circles looking for a switch or door with a footprint or hand print on it… it breaks the flow, takes me out of the world.. its just bad game design…
    And when it comes to performance, Gears 5 is awful on PC..
    I ran into constant crashes and Act 2 made the game completely unplayable.. literally… after searching the internet, ive discovered that this is not an uncommon issue.. updating all of my drivers did fix the crashing issue for me, but the game still stutters when too much is going on on screen.. I missed half of the final cutscene because it was stuck… I had to go to youtube to rewatch the ending.. and wouldn’t you know their cutscene video was lagging too.
    Online here is pretty typical fun third person shooter competitive stuff…
    Entertaining, nothing really wrong with it but nothing here to keep me hooked.. I felt no urge to play after playing for review purposes.. again like the campaign really bland.
    Gears 5 is a good game… But as a flagship exclusive from microsoft… I feel that xbox loyalists deserve better
    Theres nothing here to incentivize a purchase other than the continuation of a beloved franchise…
    And If you are buying to continue the story, I would recommend the xbox version over the pc so you can actually see it all.

    Графика получилось отменной. Unrial Engine выдаёт просто ультраклассную картинку без всякой трассировки лучей или еще чего-нибудь супер новомодного. Но все красиво, сочно, прекрасно детализировано, гейм-дизайн уровней на высоте. И вообще видна ручная и кропотливая работа создателей.
    Очень понравился интерфейс. Простой, даже можно сказать, минималистичный, при этом информативный.
    Кто любит хорошие одиночные компании в шутерах, рекомендую к ознакомлению.    … Expand

    This is my first Gears game. The game looks stunning and runs great (RX580). Story seems OK, shooting mechanics are also OK. Don't think this game is worth $60 but I got it with gamepass so it's a fantastic deal.

J'ai quand même aimé le tournant de l'histoire mais la campagne en temps que tel au niveau de l'action ..... c'est vraiment pas a la hauteur des 3 premiers malheureusement. I admit that I made the mistake of starting the franchise with Gears 5, I should have at least started with 4, but then again, due to the introduction of Gears 5, I didn't think the story of 4 was a big deal. As for the original trilogy, I can't say anything about it.

    The story has a good pace and follows unexpected paths. The characters' relationships are very important in the story and the interactions between them, although brief, are good. And the characters themselves are nice. The choice of death between the two characters is very stupid, just to screw it up and we don't have a canonical history until the sixth game comes out.    … Expand

    When I think of a forgettable game I remember gears 5. I don't know if I played 4 just before 5 made me sick of the gameplay, which is almost the same, it's a good game, it applied a little exploration and such. But it's an average forgettable game.

    The single player is good , however I can't say the same for mp as it crashes way too frequent on my gtx 1060 card while playing ranked game, costed me a win on last round as it crashed right before the game score screen and didnt count my win.... Coalition please fix this asap!! untill then just stick to single player and endure its crashes...

    Voice Acting is great. Graphics are great. Gameplay physics and general mechanics are also great/smooth. Generally speaking this game, with a bit more creativity, could be great. Now...for the not-so-great. While the mechanics run well there's no depth to them. You don't need to flank or switch guns or use any sort of 'better' strategy. You just need to get more headshots. The gun variations don't seem to play a particularly useful role. Basically, defeating enemies is rather boring and when/if you die it's probably because you've just been lulled into complacency by the lack of challenge.

    Compare this to the combat/gameplay of Mass Effect 3 / Androm you have to wonder if the Gears devs just kind of gave up.

    Story wise it's a bit slow, big generic. I'm at the beginning of ACT 3 so I'll update this if I end up changing my mind.    … Expand

    My review: Its better than Gears 4 and the graphics is really top notch. However, the characters are extremely shallow and sometimes it feels like I am watching a bunch of teenagers stuck in big adult bodies.

    The story is immature when it needs to be mature. Sometimes a little maturity comes through, but as you enjoy the fresh air, it gets poisoned by some idiotic line or action a few seconds later. Its a lot of up and down weirdness that just makes you go. "Really?". Example: One scene Dave the robot receives love and care from a fellow team mate and then the next scene he is replaced by another robot and then suddenly nobody gives a **** about Dave. Sometimes it tried too hard to be deep, but instead, came off as pretentious.

    Levels look great, but its basically just that. Invisible walls, doors that can only be opened by a robot, and then suddenly the same door, just around the corner can be opened by the player makes you just go, "wtf?". It seemed they tried to combine some action types of sequences like we have seen with other major titles like Uncharted and God of War for example, but it feels half baked.

    I enjoyed the cutscenes, the explosions and all that. But boy, I hated the characters, the story in general and the annoying little things in the level design as mentioned above. One would think with all the money that goes into making the game look beautiful, at least some decent amount would be put aside for a proper writer...but that is clearly not the case.

    It has made some improvements and I think the idea was right. However, the execution is poor and I do not recommend paying full retail price. Get it on game pass or with a 50%+ discount.    … Expand

    Primero que nada, el juego en su modo historia es buenísimo.

    En cuanto a optimización está bastante bien. Tengo un i5-3570, 8GB de ram y una GTX 1050ti y me corre con casi todo en alto con las texturas HD instaladas a 60 fps muy estables (salvo en algunos momentos y en las cinemáticas). Tiene una buena historia, me dejó enganchado con ella y tiene un multijugador decente pero    Primero que nada, el juego en su modo historia es buenísimo.

    En cuanto a optimización está bastante bien. Tengo un i5-3570, 8GB de ram y una GTX 1050ti y me corre con casi todo en alto con las texturas HD instaladas a 60 fps muy estables (salvo en algunos momentos y en las cinemáticas).

    Tiene una buena historia, me dejó enganchado con ella y tiene un multijugador decente pero mejorable, pero hay una cosa que no tolero y es que el juego no me quiere entrar al menú principal si no tengo un Internet decente o si no tengo conexión ya que requiere autentificar e iniciar cesión en los servidores de Xbox.

    Solo quiero jugar el modo historia pero si mi conexión no es buena simplemente no me abre el pin**e menú o tarda una eternidad.
    Eso y que cuando se nos va el Internet y después regresa el juego ya no quiere conectar de nuevo y hay que reiniciarlo.

    Me gustaría que se pudiera desactivar el antialiasing, ya que eso consume recursos y en pc's de gama baja como la mía nos iría bien.

    En la jugabilidad.
    Sigo prefiriendo la del primer Gears, ahí no me fallaba y extraño poder pulsar 2 veces "W" para poder correr agazapado de inmediato después de dar una voltereta (igual el primer juego de la saga era muchísimo mas difícil que el resto, digo, ahí se acompleta el augurio y estas muerto).

    También tengo algunas quejas cuando se trate de las oberturas, me a pasado demasiadas veces que solo quiero dar una voltereta y lo que ocurre es que el personaje se ponga a cubierto cuando la cobertura esta algo lejos, pero cuando quiero que se cubra en una cobertura que está mas cerca no lo hace y da una voltereta.
    Tampoco me gusta mucho que se ponga a cubierto automáticamente cuándo estoy corriendo agazapado, ya que apenas toco una pared y se pone a cubierto.

    Algo negativo a medias son los subtítulos. Solo hay la opción de activarlos y desactivarlos, pero no nos deja escoger como los queremos, ya que solo hay subtítulos que también incluyen subtítulos gráficos y es un poco molesto para la mayoría que tenemos buena audición, ya que es molesto leer cosas como "la música se intensifica", "gemidos de esfuerzo" o "temblor". Se que para las personas con problemas de audición podría servirles de algo, pero es molesto para todos los demás, por que siempre hay un momento en el que a veces hablan pero por algún problema por la mezcla de sonido no podemos escuchar lo que dicen y activamos los subtitulos para no perdernos esa frase que están diciendo.

    ===Multijugador===

    Hay cosas que quisiera que regresaran.

    - Que regrese el "modo bestia" donde se puedan escoger uno de los enemigos grandes y peligrosos del modo historia, como por ejemplo la "Berserker", un "Carguero" o un "Alcaide" utilizando puntos ganados por bajas como creo que funciona en Gears 3 ya que no lo he jugado por la exclusividad y odio el joistick (o como se escriba eso) para los shooter's ya que se siente incomodo.

    - El emparejamiento es malísimo, me han tocado ocasiones en los que todo el equipo contrario son personas y en mi equipo solo somos como 2 personas y el resto son bots y eso lo hace casi imposible.

    Tambien ya no hay mucha gente, antes habian como 10,000 personas conectadas, ahora solo hay 400 por día.

    ===En cuanto a la versión "Ultimate edition"==

    Personalmente lo considero un robo, ya que solo incluye dos personajes y treinta días de impulso... todo por unos económicos 400 pesos mexicanos mas (como 21 dolares).
    Si tuviera algún tipo de pase de temporada podría valer la pena, pero prefiero pagar esos 1,400 pesos de salida que 1,800 por algo que no lo vale. Y personalmente recomiendo no comprar esa versión e irse por la versión normal.

    También que quiten las macr0transacciones, pagamos como 1,400 a 1,900 pesos mexicanos no mam3n.

    Todavía quieren que paguemos otros 100 pesos por una bandera o un personaje. Si lanzaron el juego en el game pass de lanzamiento ya es sus culpa (o que nos regalen monedas a los que si lo compramos o sea, a todos los de Steam).

    En conclusión, el juego lo recomendaría por sus virtudes, pero esos problemas de incomodidad de que el juego quiere abrirte en menú cuando se le da la gana me hace no querer recomendarlo.
    Si a eso le sumamos las macr0transacciones (por que de micro no tienen nada) a pesar de lo caro que es el juego, de momento no lo recomiendo hasta que arreglen eso este problema en cuanto a abrir el juego y que cargue el menú de inmediato ya que es una m*3rda que "Microsoft" solo piense que todos tenemos un internet como en la ciudad en la que se encuentra sus cede.

Le fait d'être une cible perpétuelle + le god shoot de l'IA qui te mettra régulièrement des balles (même de loin) qui font beaucoup trop mal (beaucoup plus mal que les tiennes) créé un sentiment de frustration qui te fais dire "purée, mais n'importe quel bot/IA aurait été meilleur que moi dans les missions, pourquoi vous m'envoyez, alors que je suis une victime ?"

    Au final, c'est jouable sans être génial. Un titre oubliable, malheureusement pour lui et l'aura que sa license dégage    … Expand

    Easily the worst game in the franchise. The open wolrd elements just drag out what's already a pretty dull and uninspired effort that more than outstays it's welcome. New mechanics don't really add much to the game and most boss fights are more tedious than ever.

    Second: I'm not reviewing the multiplayer. It's a crapload full of microtransactions. And I hate multiplayer games.
    I'm actually at the beginning of Chapter 3 of the game, third playthrough of the campaign (obviously), and I want to say right now I don't really like Kait as character and as a main protagonist of the game. I'm not a misoginist or a maschilist, in fact I've enjoyed a lot the tomb Raider reboot, with a fantastically renewed Lara Croft as main character. I just prefer the old guard, with Marcus, Baird, Cole. I find JD Fenix and Del just fine and charismatic, but not as much as the first trilogy chars. Kait is too masculine for my tastes, even if the story told in this game is fairly interesting. I don't really understand, anyway why Americans are so passionate of family struggles, in fact so many times as plots develop the heroes discover to be linked to the main villains, with strong bonds such as father-son or mother-daughter. But I'm really digressing now, I beg your pardon! As I was saying, the story is interesting enough to raise some curiosity to it, Even if there are hardly surprising moments. The gameplay is still very similar to the older games, but extremely more fluid, dynamic, with the possibility to use environment features to kill the swarm enemies. The game has wonderful graphics and really good animations, and Gears 5 has in particular a less linear development, in fact in Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 it is possible to do side missions scattered through fairly vast areas explorable via a strange skiff able to slide on Ice and Sand. The problem is that said side missions are extremely short, and very often they happen in very small "arenas", in which at the end of the fight it is possible to find some useful weapons or object to enhance Jack's (the robot) abilities; this companion is extremely useful to solve some little "problems" during exploration or to fight the enemies. Another big problem is that the big areas of Chapter 2 and 3 are quite empty, void of enemies or other encounters, and serve just as places to pass to go from point "A" to point "B". You can certainly get off the skiff and explore the environment by foot in a limited area around the skiff itself, but I can assure you it's extremely hard to find something interesting around! Chapter 1 and 4 are my favourites, in fact they are more linear and the story unfolds in a better way, without the blank moments in which there is nothing more than skiff riding and some lines of speech in between the characters. Another thing I disliked is the fact that in Chapter 2 and 3 Marcus and JD are nowhere to be seen, it is for 98% of the time just Kait and Del; the use of only 2 characters during the gameplay deletes the fun comments and discussions that were present in previous games, so that the experience is a little bit more boring. Yes, the overall experience for me has been a little underwhelming, But I really cannot say Gears 5 is a bad game! It is a solid game, with just a few bugs here and there, but nothing very annoying.

    It was Characters and story were really lacking. I didn't care about the characters and the story was disappointing with poor writing.

    Your allies AI was really frustrating at times - I failed missions due to the AI running into enemies and such. I had the objective get stuck a couple of times so I couldn't proceed and had to start back at checkpoint.

A IA verdadeira, que é a da sua equipe, prova sua inutilidade. São mortos e capturados facilmente, e detalhe: quando isso acontece, perdemos o jogo. SIM, agora temos de ser baba de outros gears. Fora bugs onde não conseguimos prosseguir de uma etapa pra outra pq o jogo não percebeu que eu tinha matado todos os inimigos, ou aliados travados em partes do mapa.

    Enfim, assim fica dificil. Jogar numa dificldade elevada é frustrante pelo fato de que seus aliados são inuteis e os inimigos possuem muitas armas hitkill e 129081 de HP, se tornando muito entediante visto que você não tem o sentimento de que melhorou para passar de tal parte, só teve mais sorte. E a jogabilidade padrão gears - jogador pesado, armas que atiram nerf, tiros na cabeça ineficientes e mobilidade desengonçada - se mostra defasada cada vez mais, evitando a modernização como o proprio HALO 5 fez, tendo a melhor gameplay da franquia. Qual é, galera. Mesmo botão ser responsavel por rolar, correr e pegar cover é, no minimo, deprimente.

    Os graficos são bonitos, mas nada que realmente impressione - joguei no ultra, numa resolução acima de 2.5k -, a falta de detalhes num jogo deste orçamento incomoda. Jogos como Gears 2 eram mais destrutivos e mais intensos.

    A historia é bacana. Não há plots ou demais aprofundamento nos personagens, e desanima um pouco pro final, prolongando muito os atos, mas ainda sim prende um pouquinho.

    O jogo tentou ser mais dinamico, mas falha. O robo é legal e ajuda mais que seus aliados. Ademais, os combates ainda são repetitivos, onde ordas e ordas vem te atacar.    … Expand

PC players are also treated as second class citizens yet again with no ability to play Horde, Escape or Versus modes in split-screen. These features are available on Xbox and it's unacceptable that the PC versions has such limited replay value by comparison (especially when the price is identical).

    As a game, Gears 5 tries to do a couple new things with limited success. Jack's abilities are a welcome addition, however the UI makes them a nightmare to use in the heat of combat. Long, boring vehicle sections ruin the flow of the game and become frustrating after a few hours. Instead of sticking to what it does well (3rd person shooting) the game tries to do too many things that just don't end up adding to the experience (open world).

    Play this game with a cheap subscription to Xbox game pass on PC, it's not worth your 60-80 dollars.    … Expand

    Campaign is amazing. Otherwise this would be a 0/10. Multiplayer is too broken to even go on a rant about it, because the game doesn't deserve the words. Also the game crashes periodically and doesn't keep accurate track of stats.

    Yes, graphically it is excellent, but everything else is terrible. Characters do not cause any sympathy. They are not consistent, flat and boring. You cannot create a drama if a player does not give a damn about its participants.
    Fights are    What a waste ... I'm a longtime fan of the series. And the fourth part was good and promising, but this is a turn in the completely wrong direction.
    Yes, graphically it is excellent, but everything else is terrible. Characters do not cause any sympathy. They are not consistent, flat and boring. You cannot create a drama if a player does not give a damn about its participants.
    Fights are hellishly boring.
    Too many one-shots out of nowhere and too little enemy variety. There are a lot of enemies who are almost not dangerous, but require a long and tedious shooting at one point on their ass or somewhere else.
    Constant babysitting with ai companions, plus one-shots, plus checkpoints, plus boring shooting at large enemies at one point and you get at times the most incredibly hellishly boring repetitive gameplay.
    Open arenas are pointless timewasters.
    And oh god, hire good writers please.
     What is this miserable cliched “Luke I'm Your Father” plot? You destroy plot potentials for locusts! They could have had a centuries-old history, and now they have nothing.
    And, I laughed to the pain in my stomach over the choice that you suddenly give me. I see what you did here.     The game looks good, but nothing groundbreaking or up to the standards some have been advertising. Truth be told I find the material authoring and asset definition around the environment quite average, if not below expectation. Gameplay is pretty much the same as it has always been.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So I was playing Act I, genuinely enjoying a solid Gears experience. The combat has been tweaked a lot better this time around compared to Gears 4. You no longer have to spend half an hour on a miniboss(that's what it felt like). Minibosses have health bars and take far less to kill than before. It's not all good, though. Jumpers can totally waste you with barrages unless you hide behind tall cover to gradually whittle their health. They weren't AS aggressive in Gears 4, here it's barrage after barrage with no delay between.

    So yeah, I was thoroughly enjoying just about everything, the gameplay, the graphics, the story, when the game went FULL WOKE. We had a character assassination moment, because men bad, then you start Act II with the girl and this REALLY bothered me. Del never shuts up about how great she is, constantly kissing her ♥♥♥ and praising her, the Great Feminist Savior.

    Also, tell me if you've heard this woke story before: she is the ONE, she is the KEY to EVERYTHING. The retcon in Gears 5 is mighty strong, they're insinuating the Locust were just a science experiment created by Men. Men BAD, do you get it? Oh and JD returns in Act 3 and starts kissing her ♥♥♥ as well. ALL PRAISE THE WOMAN.

    The first act is classic gears, but Act 2 and 3 are open world Ubisoft crap filled with.....filler side missions. Yes, side missions in a Gears game.     Having only played the single player I can say that from a technical and visual standpoint the game is fantastic, but that's where the positives end.

    Who thought it was a good idea to make the game semi-open world? Was it really the best they were able to come up with? It genuinely adds nothing to the experience other than to be an annoying, exhausting time sink. The dialogue...     The dialogue... Oh god... Whoever was responsible for the dialogue: You're not funny. Your jokes are not funny and your writing is cringe-inducing. The protagonists act like characters out of a teen drama novel. God forbid there would have been a single line of dialogue where they don't apologize for something, act insulted, or attempt to show their gratitude in the most exaggerated manner imaginable.
    I got Mass Effect Andromeda flashbacks while playing this game; that should tell you something about the quality of the writing.

    Great graphics, good game..if it would work! Too many frustrating bugs and a ridiculous AI what causes only problems: in some levels I needed to revive all team members every 2 seconds! Gears 5 would be the best episode in the franchise. But with missing quality control this game is only frustrating. Also: the woman Kait is talking by far too much!! Why I cannot choose a male character,Great graphics, good game..if it would work!     Mi dispiace dover lasciare 4 stelle ma il gioco ha diversi bug gravi, sia di salvataggio sia che impediscono il proseguo della campagna. L'ultimo è stato la goccia che ha fatto traboccare il vaso, un muro di pietra invalicabile che appare in una grotta dove il giocatore deve necessariamente passare; questo bug mi ha impedito in qualsiasi modo il proseguio dell'avventura (che mi stavaMi dispiace dover lasciare 4 stelle ma il gioco ha diversi bug gravi, sia di salvataggio sia che impediscono il proseguo della campagna. My connection is top notch and my ping is never over 60, yet damage doesn't register, character just sits there to get shot, it is a joke.
    The next big thing that breaks everything with the game is the ''micro'' transactions. TC is greedier than Activision. Their requirement to grind for items is just plain ridiculous. For a character online you have to grind for a week if not more, and even them it is not guaranteed you will get it, since they put a bunch of small things you have to do in escape and horde, which has to do with special character bosses, which may or may not spawn. Or spend $5 per character...see how easy this is. Disgrace! Greed and incompetence. There is no variety in multiplayer. There are 4 maps on rotation. That's it - 4! WTF is this?     No hay manera humana de saber que me falta, por que como ya dije, ya lo completé TODO, así que me toca volver a pasarlo ENTERO en locura, cosa difícil, para obtener el logro, y recoger TODOS las mejoras de nuevo, por que el juego no me ha marcado algunas.

    Me da igual que el juego sea de hace 4 días, es un fallo ENORME, que hace que tengas que repetirlo TODO.

    Como ya he dicho el juego se merecería un 8, pero la han cagado, y no se que pinta un mundo abierto en un shooter frenético, te saca de la tensión y el momento.

    LO BUENO:
    En los modos online no he encontrado problemas. Enfrentamiento esta muy bien, el modo horda.... es el modo horda, ¿que mas necesitas?, y el modo escape no es que me agrade personalmente, pero no esta mal, es distinto, y es una mecánica cuanto menos interesante.    … Expand

    The lack of meaningful gameplay iteration has never been more prominent than in    Gears 5, at least as far as the campaign is concerned, is unquestionably the worst in the series by a considerable margin. The Gears series as a whole is nothing if not consistently mediocre, making me wonder if there was something going on behind the curtain to cause the baffling issues present in Gears 5.

    The lack of meaningful gameplay iteration has never been more prominent than in 5. There are three new enemies, none of which are particularly threatening or interesting to fight. The general bullet-sponginess of the enemies, a long-standing personal criticism of the series, is the worst it's ever been. Two new guns were added, one of which is a clunkier Lancer and the other of which is irredeemably awful, to the point of being nearly unusable.

    However, credit where credit is due: now your robot friend can do things in battle. He can shock enemies, heal you, act as a mobile flashbang, temporarily bring enemies to your side, and do a few other things I can't be bothered to list. This added some interesting dynamics to fights. Unfortunately, the upgrades are unbalanced, and things like the heal and the enemy hacking upgrade are so good that you'd never want to use anything else.

    The other gameplay "feature" are open world segments, which bring absolutely nothing to the table. They come with side quests and optional areas to explore, none of which I bothered with because there's nothing the game could possibly reward me with. This is a Gears game. I don't earn EXP, there are no weapon upgrades, and I just don't care enough about the story. The open world segments serve as nothing more than a tedious "go from point A to B to advance the plot."

    Speaking of the plot, it's terrible. Like, Gears has never really been lauded for its deep, complex storyline, but the plot of 5 reads like a bad fanfiction. Nothing really happens, the plot is stagnated by constant (sometimes literal) roadblocks, there's a massive revelation that the plot skates right past and then never mentions again, the characters are less likeable than ever, everyone's response to everything is a snarky comment, and there's never any sense of urgency or tension or anything. Nobody feels like they have any idea what they're doing, there never feel like there are any stakes, and the characters are all so unlikeable that many story beats just don't land.

    Gameplay wise... it's a Gears game. It plays exactly the same as it did in the first. And that's fun, except when it's not, because Gears games have a bad habit of occasionally feeling very frustrating due to the numerous instakill mechanics. 5 is no exception, except the number of frustrating encounters was much higher than any of the other games. To add to it, there were a number of times where a combat encounter was teased and then... trivialized for comedic effect? It was baffling and broke what little tone the game had already established.

    And the last, and most strange part: the game suffered from numeous technical issues. There were many cases where enemy AI got stuck in a loop or broke entirely. Textures failed to load properly on several occasions, cutscenes bugged out in more than one case, and at one point a strange lighting bug caused everyone's hair to appear neon orange. There was also a baffling FOV bug that I have never seen in a video game before, where every time the first player in splitscreen was grabbed, his perspective narrowed inwards and stretched vertically until the next forced perspective change, rendering his screen unplayable until it fixed itself.

    In short, there is often little point in writing a review for a Gears of War game, because the reviews already came out in 2006 with the launch of the original game. For Gears 5, it is necessary to make an exception: it is a bad game, and a bad Gears game.    … Expand
