    This game looks daunting, but much like a long book, you are rewarded if you just plow through the first few times. This is a result of how great the game, not a problem with the game. If you are looking for call of duty or angry birds this is NOT it. High levels of detail, but doesn't really force micromanagement. To best experience the game, dive into the Forums and discussions and read some AAR's.     Game has many shortcomings - broken logistics, poor combat mechanics and air-warfare, managing commanders and command structure isn't well though off either, but I have played this game for over year, most of the days spending around 2h moving counters forward and backwards and most of the times it was great fun.     While this game may scare a lot of newer players away, it shouldn't. It can be learned in 15 minutes, but is deep enough that even after several hundred hours of playing, you will still learn new things.     Great game at the grognard level. Maybe a little too complex. There are some concepts, like the TOE (tables of equipment), that i feel could be dropped. Interface is good, but not great. Some menus are hard find, on the beginning.

    Concept of airbases HQ, i am not sure it is the best, they have changed it with War in the West. But for someone who wants the whole eastern campaign    Great game at the grognard level.     This is a hard, complex and long to play wargame (if you go with the entire campaign at least), but quite satisfactory when you get into it. Good to learn about the conflict and reason because some things happened that way. Has some flaws, but still very worth of playing.

    There are not as many games like this as there used to be, and hardly any that have the kind scope on display in War in the East. It is a good, very detailed example of the classic hex-based operational wargame.
