This game can be considered "Curse of the Moon 3", the game is very similar; you can switch characters on the fly, you can fight close or from a distance, and you have different paths you can explore after you gain new sub-weapons. Also, you have a "casual" mode that prevents the game from having the absurd and artificial difficulty from the old NES games its based on.

The pixelart is great, although this might be the first problem this game has; the artstyle is not for everybody.
It should be obvious just by seeing the store page, but this is basically "Castlevania III with waifus" (unless you consider Sypha a waifu).
I personally dont have a problem with that, but some might, and is not only the characters in game, the images showing the game's story show very "interesting" angles, the game is not shy about this game being extremely "kawai".
And this leads to the second problem, which is the biggest; the audio.
I know the "people of culture" who like these types of anime is not only because of the art, but also for the voices, and for these people, well, the game delivers, the sisters are constantly screaming in really "weird" ways, while they also keep screaming things like "onii-chan" and that kind of stuff, you know, the "classics"...the game has the option to put english voices, but why would you play a game with this artstyle with english voices? what this game doesnt have are options when it comes to audio, while they should add an option to turn off the constant screaming, I think in this day and age is a given games should have an option to turn down the master audio...you better lower the speakers before starting this bad boy or your neighbors are calling the FBI.
In short, amazing plataformer, just as good as the Curse of the Moon games, but is not for everybody...I would suggest trying it out before buying, or wait for a sale, considering I think is a matter of time before they put some audio options.

Gal Guardians: Demon Purge is a game that will delight fans of 2D direct action. Excellent gameplay, outstanding final bosses and a set of charismatic characters and dialogues as witty as the Gal*Gun saga. A fun experience that lacks more creativity in level design, but the dynamism of its proposal and the good work in the genre of its developers elevate this remarkable game.

In most ways, Gal Guardians Demon Purge sticks very close to the retro-Castlevania template. The best parts of the game are those ideas and mechanics which add something new, like the swappable sisters with unique strengths. For those gamers tired of uber-challenging action platformers, Gal Guardians Demon Purge’s streamlined gameplay and accessible difficulty might be a welcome change, if not a particularly revelatory experience.

This Gal Gun spin-off threatens to outshine the series that inspired it thanks to taut, timeless, two-dimension action. Soloists can trade off between the gun-toting Shinobu and her melee-combo-using sister, Maya. However, having a partner for local co-op play makes Grim Guardians: Demon Purge truly shine.
