Forspoken isn't perfect, owing to a middling campaign and a need for more optimization. Still, its spell combat system and parkour mechanics are top-notch, with landscapes and abilities that can truly amaze.

If you are looking for a new open world game to explore with an innovative but clunky combat system, and you have a high-end computer to get around the technical problems, Forspoken might be the game for you. However, you'd better not have high expectations regarding its story or dialogues, because at best they are not great, and at worst, you will even think about doing the unthinkable: skip the cinematics.

Neat action-adventure with role-playing elements, which surprises with many fresh ideas, while ultimately implementing them inconsistently.

Forspoken occasionally has small sparks of greatness, but then quickly douses itself in fear of ever being anything other than an upsettingly safe open-world RPG.

For all its ambition, Forspoken doesn't bring much new to the genre, and instead falls into various pitfalls common with open-world games. While the combat is serviceable and fun in spurts, the game's narrative, characters, and exploration all come up short. It's too bad it seems like Forspoken won't get a second chance, because I think there is some potential sitting dormant underneath all the imperfections, but it looks like Frey's journey will remain a missed opportunity.

Its initial teasers promised a gorgeous magical world full of incredible sites. Instead, we’ve been given something boring, that runs terribly and has a story full of overused tropes.

Doesn't matter that the effects and magic look great, or that the art stylization is breathtaking at times, when you're standing on a desolate plain and looking into the fog most of the time, because the creators simply couldn't manage a decent visibility. This is how games were made a decade ago. The only thing I wouldn't be afraid to praise the authors for is the action, which has pace, and the magical abilities bestowed on the protagonist by the magic bracelet. [Issue#325]

Forspoken is not worth either your money, or your time. Even were it offered for free, perhaps as part of a free weekend promotion on Steam, or as one of the rotating weekly free game giveaways on the Epic Games Store, it would still be too high a price to pay, as the time investment costs far outweigh the doubtful pleasure of experiencing what little Forspoken has to offer.

  1. There's no incentive to actually fu.king do anything, and in between the things you can't be arsed to do are just vaste swathes of nothing. I'm convinced everything in Forspoken would be 100% improved if it was about 60% smaller. The world would be compact, but it would be dense, more interesting, and appropriately scoped. It might have characters in it beyond the same few urchins standing on the streets in Cipal dong one of three "I'm scared" poses, and cutscenes that don't have a fade to black every five seconds for no apparent reason. It's so annoying, because I think a lot of the core ideas here are very cool, and it's one of those games where I want a sequel where they do everything better. Given the nature of these things, I expect we never will.

It ain't good, chief. Lame combat, seriously unlikeable characters, and an incoherent story all make for a very poor outing by Square.

Bref un vrai désastre, bravo Square Enix pour ce chef-d'oeuvre
