Best game I've played in last few years. If you like the good dialogs, nice story, beautiful scennery then this is your game! I think we can call this as an interactive film / adventure game. So if you like this genre this four hour worth the money!

Fiction tells us to love at all costs instead of teaching us how to make decisions within a romantic relationship that aren’t ultimately centered on selfish motivation. This creation centers on making right decisions. It teaches us to let it go when it's necessary.
This beautiful and short story is accompanied by a delightful graphics and an excellent theme music.
The game has it's logical ending, and it's very disappointing to see how many gamers haven't understood it.

What an amazing adventure it was - it sucked me right in. The ending was a disappointment though. I expected something else. But it was all right most of the time. And the game isn't too long - I like that since I don't have much time for video games these days.

Very interesting and innovative game. I got drawn into the game pretty quick and kept wandering until the end. Short game as can be done in few hours, but well worth it. Like watching a movie, but somehow directing it too.

Firewatch is a short game, but very interesting one. It has got an awesome graphics, gameplay (which is so-so... just walking), strange story. Albeit the cost is very high, I definitely recommend this title for picking up! But my advice is to wait for sale.

The visuals are beautiful and overall I really enjoyed the game and just wished it played for a little longer.

As an adult, I really enjoyed this game. It was short but sweet. I was genuinely scared during lots of it and kept looking behind me while traversing the forest. It's a somber game overall. The voice acting and plot are realistic and top notch.

A very beautiful and story-rich game. It's like a movie but in the version of a game. This game involves a lot of walking, so don't play it if you expect action. The game conveys a strong message, if you are smart enough to figure it out what it is. One of the best games I've played so far!

Tackling some very serious subjects, the game is beautifully directed, I really felt like I was in Henrys shoes and after a short time, I was completely absorbed by the story. There is a lot of plot twist, strong emotional moments and some very creepy parts that made me wish I wasn't playing alone in the dark.

The atmosphere is great, the art style is wonderful and animations are well done. The only thing I could say against the world itself is the lack of animals, you are in the middle of the forest and you encounter very few living creature during the whole game.

I give this game a 9 out of 10 because it kept me searching for answers. I did not want to interrupt this beautiful adventure, I wanted to know more, to know wtf is actually going on. The story, atmosphere, voice acting and the lack of dull moments makes this game a MUST. Campo Santo is an independent developer and this is an example of what gem can be created when you think outside of the box, they hit the bullseye!

This "experience" works best when you bring zero expectation to it. It may put a controller in your hand, but a lot of the interaction you will have with this world is baked into the game play.

I would love to see another game from them as this was a very fun game for me. I felt the narrative driven by just two people seemingly alone just using their radios was pretty well written, and the story exciting and thick up to a certain point... you begin to questioning your own sanity, the others, if there is something bigger going on... but in the end the trailer shows a much more dramatic and sensationalist version of this game (which I'd have liked to play instead)

    Pros:
    + Atmospheric

    Cons

The scripted sequences that progress the narrative and the interactions through relationship building and dialogue are the finer points of the game and make the experience one that I would say is entirely worth it even though the second and third acts gradually slack off and leave a sour taste in the mouth. What starts as a mystery I would love to uncover gradually morphs into something that even X-Files would shudder at in terms of just how much it seems to retcon earlier information and make liberal use of “video game logic.” What is at first an entirely believable and enjoyably realistic experience seems to hoodwink even the player themselves and end with a less than stellar thought.

Concept: Explore the wilderness and a potential cover up and other intriguing events in the backwoods of Wyoming over the course of a summer with your fellow fire watchers.

Graphics: It certainly has its own unique look and reminds me more of graphics or posters sometimes than a realistic or cartoon style of visuals in games.

Sound: Although characters never meet face to face per se, the voice work is well done and showcases an incredible level of detail and emotion in the way it conveys the words from script to realization.

Playability: It is quite literally a stroll through the woods and an enjoyable experience lacking difficulty but not lacking for substance.

Entertainment: Games in this genre are slow going but if you can get into the story then you’ll be right at home for at least seventy percent of the game or so.

    Replay Value: Low.

    Overall Score: 7.0

I felt the ending was a great, if not bitter-sweet finale. But it was undoubtedly rushed. Characters that ought to have made a visual appearance conveniently left before the game really had a chance to explore them properly and then Firewatch just kind of fizzles out. This is really evidenced by the running time, which is about 4 hours (and I’m being generous there.) Given that the asking price is £15/$20, it’s hard to recommend Firewatch to anyone other than those who truly love a well told story. While I’m really glad I played it and I'm totally torn up about having to give this review a bad ending, I can’t help but feel that there are much better value-for-money games out there right now. Playing Firewatch is like being served the tastiest food in the World and then only being allowed to have a few bites of it before having your plate yanked away and being told to leave the restaurant. The conversations between Henry and Delilah are ok, but its hard to pay attention to them when trees pop in and out of existence, or when the ground disappears. The 15 FPS is great too, I have a pretty nice Pc and I'm above the system requirements but I still have to endure a god awful framerate. [[SPOILERS]] The endings piss poor, the second they introduced the weird hiker guy with his son I knew that he would have a big role to play. In my case I had way too much fun exploring the area and interacting with objects, so I ended up putting way more time into it.

You play as Henry, a married man who's wife had a mental disease and he couldn't do anything to help, so her parents decided to take care of her as they didnt trust Henry for that.
Henry then took on a job as firewatch, mainly to try and run away from those problems.
In his first day at the job, Henry is called by Delilah, his new "boss", through radio. The game then starts, and Delilah sends you on missions around the area. And thats basically what you do through the game.
It doesnt sound like much at first, but the exploration part is really enjoyable. It actually made me wanna get a job as a firewatch just so I could get out of the big city and explore the wilderness. And maybe, just maybe, I would get a fun boss like Delilah to order me around.

OH GOD, DELILAH! HOW I LOVE YOU SO!!
Delilah is the main reason I enjoyed this game so much. She keeps you company while you explore the forest.
She is a woman with a fun personality, so its hard to get bored when she is talking.
The voice actors did an amazing job. Delilah and Henry conversations really feels natural.
I wish the game was longer so I could listen to more of their dialogues!

But alas, thats pretty much all the game has going for it. So you will either love it or hate it.
There is a plot, but in my opinion it was one of the worse cases of "wasted potential" I seen in a game.
Wont talk much about it so I dont spoil anything. Just dont think much about it and enjoy the ride.
The game is short but very comfy, so buy it and play during the weekend. It will be worth it.

But, the story unfolds organically with your exploration and doesn't leave you wandering the park aimlessly for too long. Those who prefer solitary pursuits will enjoy the minimalist ambience, and there is just about enough to keep a demanding nit like me entertained. The world is beautifully rendered, the routes wonderfully realised and the voice acting is simply sublime.
Throughout the game there's a prevailing feeling of something unseen up to no good which will have you forever looking over your shoulder. Unfortunately after such an eerie and well-crafted buildup of suspense, the ending was somewhat of a busted flush and also failed to tie up all of the loose ends.
The game is also extremely short, but I felt that the concept would be tired had more been squeezed from it.
At times it feels that indie games of this type are overly ponderous, and made ambiguous in an attempt to seem thought-provoking. Firewatch is refreshingly grounded in this respect. Perfect to get in the sales and to play through on a Saturday afternoon.

For those of you who may be thinking about trying it out I will give you a little insider.

If you are into seriously good gameplay and that's pretty much it please don't buy this game, this game is more of a narrative its the story and the overall presentation that makes this game good not the gameplay, the environment is severely limited in interactions and roaming around so don't expect that at all. This game is very linear in everyway but it is also very original from the story to the gameplay and the overall concept of it. this game is only about 4 hours in length and replay ability is not very high.

However this game does show you what is great about gaming and how games can portray a story and emotions without everything being overly complicated, FIREWATCH is an example of what games use to be and are still capable of before multiplayer and sandbox style games became a thing it shows you that if the basics of game creation are done right it can be just as immersive as any other game and pull you in entirely for those 4 hours and make you sad but satisfied when you are finished.

Overall I would give FIREWATCH a 7.5/10 because I don't personally believe that its worth $20 in todays market only being 4 hours in length, but the story itself propels this game up into the 7.5 range.

P.S my grammar sucks I know that eat a dick.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the reason so many people are upset with this game is because of how they are used to all these Grandiose endings which in this games case would have meant a revelation of some big conspiracy or something along those lines. However anybody who actually felt the game as they played it and didn't just spend their time thinking forward to the possible explanations of the many questions the game created who have realised that this game is way to Human to end in any kind of Epic manner. This is a game about escapism and its futility. The game serving as both his physical Haven and a metaphor for his psychological one. The which started small then grew into an roaring beast was his Demons and problems back home which he could only every distract himself from but could never get rid of. always lingering in the back of his mind increasing in presence until it was once again brought to the forefront of his thoughts. This goes for all the characters in this game who are all on some escapist type situation as well. As for people complaining that Henry never got to meet Delilah, I honestly think it was better off this way. Imagine how horribly typical it would have been for Henry to meet Delilah, fall in love, and go off with her. The games purpose was too show the futility of escapism and how Delilah was only ever an escape for Henry and how the real woman in his life was Julia his wife back home. A happy ending between the two would have been i completed conflict with what the game was meant to represent. As for him never seeing her in general, I quiet liked that because it leaves Delilah seeming like some sort of perpetual mystery which only made her more interesting. Expand

It's very frustrating to me to see this walking simulator well reviewed because its creators are part of the hipster video game former-editorial club.

"ZOMG ITS THE GUYZ FROM IDLE THUMBS THEY ARE MISERABLE HIPSTERS LIKE US, THE REVIEWERS!" Dialogue is trite, gameplay is as boring as its close cousin Gone Home. **** game, save your money.

This game goes all the way to 11, on the scale of 10 of course :) I think all the positive reviews have said everything there is to say about this game, so I won't add much in that department. But I wanted to mention that this game stays with you long after you have finished it. But I wanted to mention that this game stays with you long after you have finished it. The experience was so immersive, that even 3-4 days after completing it I miss the characters and world it all happened in. I want to go back to my tower, look at the breathtaking view, push my walkie-talkie's button and ask Delilah: "Hey, what's up?" :)

But what I am worried about is a new trend with players complaining about the cost of the game. Since everybody is downloading games on Steam, there are no more physical packages. So that kind of gives a feeling of games and money quickly moving both ways and some players feel that they always have to have a say on this subject. Steam has (too) consumer-friendly refund rules and some players have started to become vile and childish exploiting those rules.

Good example is Firewatch. Some reviewers here say it is too short and it's not worth the asking price. That the "fair" asking price should be 2-3 times lower. How can someone judge if the price for a product is fair or not? If its too expensive don't buy it. If you bought it and didn't like, tough luck. That's life. Then in the future avoid games from the same developer. Same thing with movies and books. If the movie sucked then you don't go to movie theater's website complaining and claiming that instead of 8 bucks the ticket should have cost 2 bucks. If you saw your first Michael Bay movie and you think it was horrible, then suck it up and in the future don't go to another Michael Bay movie. It is that simple.

Is there a manual how to evaluate games? Reading the negative reviews here it seems there is. First and most important criteria must be - more hours of play equals a better game. If a game leaves you a deep impression then whats the difference if play time is 3 hours or 30 hours? My humble opinion is that the value of a game should be measured in the amount of positive emotion not in hours played. So if you didn't like the game, or you didn't understand it then just say so. It is ok to say that you didn't like the game. Complaining about short play time is absurd.

And last but not least - this is a game for adults. By that I mean someone older than 14 :) Main driving force behind this game is a quite layered and somewhat complicated relationship between the main characters. Middle aged and older people are not really into games, that is changing, but slowly. So most reviewers are younger and you can really see that in the users reviews here. This game should be reviewed like a movie or a book. On that scale this game is a full 11 :)

The only pretty thing about this game is the atmosphere. I literally had to go and make an account to just rate how terribly mundane this game was. It had so much potential but honestly, the end was just really annoying. People call it "realistic." I honestly thought it would be good because of the hype but trust me you do NOT want to board the hype train on this one.

If you read this, but have been put off by the critical assessment of the ending, let me tell you this. The game does not end in a James Bond, Die Hard or X-Files climax with guns blazing and explosions everywhere, but more nuanced and gradual. For me, this is a realistic depiction of the world we live in. People wishing for a more exciting, staccato ending might have watched too many movies where they should have gone out in the world and experience life as it is.

Why a 7? The game perfectly achieves what (I think) it aims to do. The main meat of the game, the relationship between Delilah and Henry, shines and the voice acting is great. However, the game is short and linear and the plot is okay but has some holes and is not fully believable. An extra couple of months of writing would have served the game well.

If you like atmospheric and thought-provoking games, I urge you to buy The Witness instead.

    - It's not even appealing to look at. At the very least it could have given us that.

The gameplay consists of making your way through a beautifully crafted Wyoming wilderness from points A to B while talking to a fellow Park employee.

The best part of this game is its dialogue, the voice acting is top notch and realistic, it really feels like two adults conversing with one another. You can shape your own character through dialog choices, but it is severly limited, as this genre tends to be.

Where the game falls apart is in its narrative. At a measly 4 hours, one can easily finish and be done with it in one sitting. The ending will leave you unsatisfied, its anticlimactic to say the least. I get why Campo Santo chose the ending they did, but they tripped up with the games length. To create something that truly resonated with me at least, they should have extended the games length, giving more time and dialogue to truly flesh out the games two main characters, as it stands, the game was so short that I did not even have the time to become invested in either of their lives.

Firewatch is a game which shows potential, but ultimately falls flat due to a seeming lack of ambition.

A spoiler-free note on the ending, I've seen many criticisms of the plot and its conclusion, but almost all of those criticisms ignore every note from the prologue and the characters' development. From the very start, as you craft Henry's backstory and get to know Delilah, Firewatch makes it very clear that there are no clean and easy paths in life. The sort of plot that most people seem to have wanted would have conflicted jarringly with Firewatch's entire philosophy.

Firewatch is certainly not for everyone, it wasn't necessarily even great for me. But considering how many books that I've started and never finished it's worth pointing out that I finished Firewatch, and did not regret the time put in.

The entry only prepares mentally prior to the game, but is well done in my opinion - already written above, a good book could hardly have started better.

The game itself would have still potential in terms of "side quests" because things unfortunately "hunted" only through the main quest, which is a shame, because the world itself is very beautiful and harmonious.

I'm impressed by the fabulous speakers! They bring at any time over the mood without fumble. The many possibilities of conversation (dialogue tree) leaves little to be desired, because if a conversation is reached, not dull the next play, but reference to the already conducted talks - stunning performance at the storyboard!

Technically the game is okay - animations operate smoothly and broadly only minor blunders. Unfortunately, some times my graphics drivers crashed, what first is an indication to me that here trifles with graphic engine are not quite round.

The price (€ 19.99) is justified only because of the good speakers - hopefully they have been well rewarded for it.

Conclusion: I had more a game with Fire Watcher quests and sidequests hoped, but received a outstanding coherent Mystery Adventure.

More of an interactive video than a game, It should be noted that Firewatch contains absolutely zero actual gameplay besides walking and occasional interaction with items. There are no puzzles to solve or obstacles to overcome. There is no challenge present, it is entirely narrative-driven.
The illusion of choice is present to add an element of drama or suspense, though ultimately nothing you say or do makes the slightest difference in the plot or progression of the game.

That being said, It's a beautiful experience with amazing graphics and incredible voice acting. I enjoyed the brief experience this game had to offer, and unraveling the mystery kept me entertained for it's duration. However, the plot really falls short at the end, and you're left with even more questions than you start with. The relationship you have tended throughout the game disintegrates into nothing, and I was left feeling a bit underwhelmed and unsatisfied.

I have no qualms with this just figured I'd point that out. Story wise I think most of it is great. The setup of your character and the complex relationship is wonderfully done. You can play Henry (main character) anyway you please. He has a complicated backstory when it comes to romance so it's up to you how you wanna make Henry approach this new romantic situation. I played him as being on the fence-wanting to bang but not ready to bang. The mystery that takes place has an underwhelming finish that feels bizarrely tame.

A lot of mixed or negative reviews here seem to be by people who didn't understand what they were getting themselves into. As long as you know what kind of game this is and you are interested in it there is no reason why you shouldn't play it.

Unfortunately with a game like this the story is key, there is no real skill in the gameplay and whilst the environments are a joy to explore without something driving you through it's all for nothing. That said the story does a good job of driving you through the game, it's offers mystery and suspense, however the ending (explanation of the events) is utterly mundane and delivered in a very direct manner which counter acts the prior more subtle delivery methods on display in the rest of the game. Firewatch is part of an ever growing selection of exploration story games, and it adds some great things to the mix, but ultimately all of these games live and die on the story and unfortunately this one just doesn't round off well at all. In short you'll have fun playing it, but probably won't remember it with much fondness. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Excellent game for the non-gamers and gamers alike. It requires a certain maturity and attention span to play. Most cellphone-addicted teenagers wouldn't find this very interesting. It's a very short game, which is its best strength: it's great for casual gamers who want a fun experience without too much time commitment, but also a quick change of pace for most hardcore gamers out there. But if you're someone who wants a lot of content out of his game, you should probably skip this. This is all about the ambiance and the mystery.

As someone who hasn't played a great many story-driven single player games, I found myself interested in this one. I didn't feel overwhelmed with things to do, because it's driven by a single "quest" every day, and you have a friendly voice guiding you. The mystery is effective. The ending is slightly disappointing, and you'd have hoped of at least finding a picture of Delilah in her tower or something. When I saw that she wasn't there, I started thinking it had all been a lie, until I found her drawing. So the mystery does keep going until the very end.

The biggest flaw with this game is how you can't go past certain objects and terrain elevation that looks like you easily could. It takes away from the immersion tremendously. The small list of actions gets repetitive as well. I would have liked to see a little bit of extra content/hidden areas that aren't related to the main story, and having the opportunity to explore the area that you can see a little more would have made this an absolutely amazing game.

Despite its flaws, it's a gorgeous game with great voice acting and an effective, realistic mystery. Recommended.

No, I was actually sick, and didn't have much better to do.

And, may I say, it was most certainly worth it.

Now, despite being of the same genre, unimaginatively titled "walking simulator" by some (which i think is biased and has a negative connotation out of the starting gate) and having the same musical composer, this title and Gone Home are succinctly different.

By the way, that composer, Chris Remo, really knows how to create atmosphere with a limited but soulful instrumental palette.

Anyways, Firewatch is beautifully rendered and colored, and does a bang-up job capturing the midwest with an art style that isn't too samey, even as you walk through trees, trees, and more trees. Its environments are built well and I found that it was fairly easy to navigate if you've read a map before, (I turned off the player indicator for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles/to test my navigation skills) though I am not a fan of only contextual jumping. Let me jump on things that look jump-onable, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥it.
That being said there is a reasonable amount of environmental obstacles that you need to traverse, and they are perfectly reasonable and flow well with navigation.

Now, if you read my review of Gone Home, you will know what matters most to me in this interactive story experience is just that: the story.
I found myself easily falling into the protagonist Henry's shoes as he is a bit like me, though considerably older, (and in terms of hobbies I'd probably be more like Brian Goodwin). I found his story at the beginning heartbreaking, but enough to bring you up to speed, and the dialog/story options were and interesting feature, though I have a feeling all roads lead to Rome, so to speak.
I really felt the connection between Delilah and Henry as well, very well acted and the amount of dialog choices was plentiful enough to feel like you are actually influencing the conversation. In fact, early on I made a comment that made Delilah annoyed and leave her radio for a second, and I felt genuinely bad for having reacted the way I did.

I felt the story arced well at the beginning, but once it hit the turning point, where things got weirder, it lost its stride. Soon weeks and months were passing, and everything was a rush, and I needed to run all over the map to chase a mystery I didn't really feel was pulling together all that well. It was a lot like putting together a puzzle with no idea what the outcome will be, and being spoonfed pieces that don't fit together, and in the end it came together into something you wholeheartedly didn't expect and didn't really feel satisfied with.

The big reveal, the climax, wasn't really much of one. It left me depressed mostly because the ending to Henry and Delilah's relationship plotline ended in a somewhat lazy way. The mystery started out like it was Scully and Mulder exploring an enigma in a remote location in one of the better early episodes of The X-Files, but ended like one of the crappy episodes without Mulder in the 8th season, where the two cynics leave things completely unfinished.

Now, despite my complaints, I do think if you loved Gone Home, or enjoy interactive storytelling games (or *spits* walking simulators) you should play this game. It is more of a game than Gone Home, as I didn't find myself bored, or running through locations just to unlock the next story bit. Its also a lot more engaging to play with the conversation with a living voice, which you choose your words for. But, unfortunately, I don't think it is worth the price. I would disagree with the price of Gone Home as well, but I got it in a humble bundle, and this is coming longer after I finished that game than my review of it. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that. So, buy it on sale and play it. Love the characters and the location and even the gameplay.

But don't expect a great ending.

The game's story relays on mystery and tension that gets built up by the large amount of quiet time created by hiking from place to place, making moments of high level action and suspense all the more effective at scaring or intensifying you. Gameplay revolves around hiking from place to place to do things (I'm using things as speaking about any plot points is going to take away a large proportion of the game away as I will later elaborate on) you get a map and a compass and for some reason the game automatically has it so you know where you are. I instantly changed this as it allowed for a more immersive experience, having to accurately read a map in order to not get lost was a real treat. The graphics are cartoon-y and stunning and really goes to show that photo-realism in gaming is not always (or at all) the way forward, however, for an indie developer making a game of this scope seems to have taken its toll. The game has a tendency to have lag spikes even on my high spec pc (I just thank god I'm not on ps4) and I had two crashes while playing (one game breaking and incredibly annoying one during an important moment). Aloe as you probably know its only 4.5 hours long. For the £15 price tag its pretty bad even if the game is polished and is consistently good as I've been saying it is. But the last third of the really sucked and was appallingly unclimatic and disappointing. It seems like the writer built up the tension then had no idea what to do with it so he panicked and wrote this in at the last second.
I like Firewatch, despite its shortcomings and found the first two thirds of the game so strong and the conversations between the two characters so good I couldn't help but like it. However, I can't recommend it due to its crappy ending.

There is almost no interaction aside from the "dialogue" (which was good), which at the end doesn't matter, there is absolutely /zero/ gameplay, the story was okay (aside from the terrible ending) and that's Firewatch.

The game had great potential but it didn't really live up to the hype they generated with their excellent (albeit sensationalized) trailers.

The premise of the gameplay is fine. I don't think it needed any more features, but the ones that were there could have been developed a bit more. I had read an interview about how they put effort into making an outhouse so that your guy could use the bathroom...but its just a model. This is a good example on how the developer doesn't seem to quite understand what is lacking from their game. All the "things" you can do rely on the players imagination.

You need to imagine that you are wandering in a vast forest (when its really on rails)
You need to imagine you are fishing (when you are really just walking to the next scripted event)
You need to imagine how Henry feels about his situation (because you aren't given any insight into this)

I don't think the decision to funnel players to destinations by limiting where then can walk (due to downs trees that any normal person could hop over) was a good one.
I don't think the game needed a conspiracy theory arc.

I do think the game needed more from the antagonist, as hinted in the trailer
I do think that their could have been more stress from the missing girls in the game (as hinted in the trailer)
I do think there was opportunity for some cool options, like losing you map and compass and needing to either camp out or find your way back on memory alone.

Overall I'd say that the world is very pretty, the dialogue can be charming, but the story ends up being terrible despite starting strong. It starts to fall apart when the conspiracies start. It sort of reminds me how Indigo Prophecy fell apart near the end with A.I and the like.

Decent game, not stellar. I'm a bit sad regarding its unrealized potential.

So it's good then that these two parts of the game really are excellent, there is real chemistry in the radio banter between you and D. and the exploration is also fantastically done. I really applaud them for going with a handheld map and compass rather than just an automatic mini-map, it really makes the game that much more immersive and realistic.

I also think that the graphics and audio design was very well done for such a small studio, there is a lot of love put in here. However - the problem I have with this game (and why the score stays at a seven) is that the game pretends like there's choice and consequence, but there really isn't. No matter what choices you make basically everyone who play this game is going to have the same emotional roller-coaster and the same ending.

And while I understand that branching story lines and alternate endings take time and money to create it's especially painful this time around since I think this game could have been a real masterpiece, had we been allowed to explore some different endings depending on our choices. The net effect is that rather than feeling like we've been given something decent, the feeling I have is that I've been robbed of greatness. Video games are a unique medium in that they have the possibility to allow for choice and consequence, and to not take advantage of that in this case almost feels like a cardinal sin.

There is so much that could have been done here in terms of keeping quiet on the radio, or not saying certain things on the radio, or delaying saying certain things to a certain someone, or not falling for someone's obvious trap. But nothing of that ever happens or pays off, this game is a "corridor-adventure-game" for a lack of a better term. You might initially think that there is choice and consequence, but this game is sadly a lot dumber than it initially makes itself out to be.

I will also say that while I personally liked the current ending I think it may be a little too realistic, mature and underwhelming for mass-market tastes. Had the current ending been one of say three possible endings it would have been stellar, but since it's the only ending I think many will find it underwhelming.

I debated long and hard whether I should give this game a 7 or an 8. In the end I decided that I can't reward coming this close to greatness and then falling short of the mark. This could have been a 9, or maybe even a 10, score game with the right branching story treatment but it simply falls short, and that is indeed painful

The above might have been forgivable if the game had a strong story to keep you interested throughout. Unfortunately, while the story starts off strong, it proceeds to jump of a cliff near the end, which is almost as bad as having it be bad all throughout as it leaves a very sour taste in many people's mouths.

The only positive aspects of Firewatch are the dialogue and the environment design, however, this just adds fuel to the idea that Firewatch would have functioned much better as a story then as a game, as well as having a story that didn't stop giving a **** near the end.

Finally, it's extremely short for it's asking price of $19.99 US.
