The environment is not just a huge national park but also a psychological landscape you traverse, filled with unanswered questions, and sometimes paranoia. There is a mystery to unveil indeed, and that's only part of the whole experience.
It's a game that you can play to take a reflexive vacation from other games. A game that doesn't ask you to master a core mechanic but to explore the difficulties of figuring things out, especially the relationships between people.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I went into Firewatch with no expectations other than beautiful scenery and the game being story driven. Cool.

I started off totally engrossed into the game, the nature of the relationship with Julia, but I found myself curious as to where things would lead to with Delilah. Then the mystery kicks in. I found myself thinking a bit of the TV show LOST at times. After an hour or two the mystery is revealed, and it seems like it was rushed, a bit of a cop-out as well.

I don't know how to make this game better, but I will say that I enjoyed the first half a lot more than the second half.

This is a game well worth playing, especially due to it being a short game, but I wouldn't recommend it at the $20 it's for on Steam. I think it's super polished in controls and scenery, but the story is too short and a bit rushed. $10-$15 seems more appropriate.

Edit: I'm changing my score from 7 to an 8. The further removed I am from this game the more I think about it and remember it fondly.

I have no qualms with this just figured I'd point that out. Story wise I think most of it is great. The setup of your character and the complex relationship is wonderfully done. You can play Henry (main character) anyway you please. He has a complicated backstory when it comes to romance so it's up to you how you wanna make Henry approach this new romantic situation. I played him as being on the fence-wanting to bang but not ready to bang. The mystery that takes place has an underwhelming finish that feels bizarrely tame.

A lot of mixed or negative reviews here seem to be by people who didn't understand what they were getting themselves into. As long as you know what kind of game this is and you are interested in it there is no reason why you shouldn't play it.

An incredibly well made game, that I suggest every gamer who has just a tiny bit of good taste and sense of quality should try. The story is well told and very intriguing. The only reason the game doesn't get 10 in rating is because it is a one time play through. At least in my opinion. But truly it is an amazing game Panic. Inc has created here :) Highly Recommend it...

A spoiler-free note on the ending, I've seen many criticisms of the plot and its conclusion, but almost all of those criticisms ignore every note from the prologue and the characters' development. From the very start, as you craft Henry's backstory and get to know Delilah, Firewatch makes it very clear that there are no clean and easy paths in life. The sort of plot that most people seem to have wanted would have conflicted jarringly with Firewatch's entire philosophy.

Firewatch is certainly not for everyone, it wasn't necessarily even great for me. But considering how many books that I've started and never finished it's worth pointing out that I finished Firewatch, and did not regret the time put in.

How their relationship plays out is almost entirely up to you, and it makes the characters feel much different. -Plot (6): Many folks say that the game has a **** ending. THAT DEPENDS ON HOW YOU EXPLAIN THE STORY. Personally thinking, the story is pretty intense except the ending. And it lack of explanation or predictive things we expected. But overall the story itself is fine. Not satisfying but fine. Consider it is an indie.

-Performance (7): I think my computer's spec is way higher than the recommendation. But the framerate sometimes drop to 40 fps. Considering there's nothing GPU intense scene, I think this is due to poor optimization. But overall it is fine.

-Control (8): There's no unresponsive control. And the overall control design is fine.

    -Pros:
//The comm system. It's very creative. And I enjoy the deep dialogue. And it's an important element in the game.
//The entire firewatch concept is nice. A place without crowd and living with natural.
//There're many thing trying to express during the gameplay. I think you should try it yourself and you will know what I'm talking about.

    -Cons:
//There're only one story and the dialogue you choose doesn't effect anything at all. Maybe it's because I played a few visual novel before. Then the dialogue may show nothing to some gamer.
//To tell the truth, I don't spend much of time exploring. But the devs use the map just for story telling, which is kind of pity.
//The lack of interactive around the environment and the collection. There are few things you can take, or it's meaningless to take it.

-Overall: I will suggest you to play this game. It's kind of refreshing and creative.

Through this, Firewatch explores the degradation of relationships and the tendency for escapism. This is accompanied by a very fitting ambient soundtrack and an occasional dose of wit and comedy. I thought the resolution to the mystery/thriller aspect was a bit contrived, and perhaps the setting could've felt that more authentic if there was more wildlife and things to see and interact with, but on the whole I found Firewatch to be a fulfilling experience. But, the story unfolds organically with your exploration and doesn't leave you wandering the park aimlessly for too long. Those who prefer solitary pursuits will enjoy the minimalist ambience, and there is just about enough to keep a demanding nit like me entertained. The world is beautifully rendered, the routes wonderfully realised and the voice acting is simply sublime.
Throughout the game there's a prevailing feeling of something unseen up to no good which will have you forever looking over your shoulder. Unfortunately after such an eerie and well-crafted buildup of suspense, the ending was somewhat of a busted flush and also failed to tie up all of the loose ends.
The game is also extremely short, but I felt that the concept would be tired had more been squeezed from it.
At times it feels that indie games of this type are overly ponderous, and made ambiguous in an attempt to seem thought-provoking. Firewatch is refreshingly grounded in this respect. Perfect to get in the sales and to play through on a Saturday afternoon.

You play as Henry, a married man who's wife had a mental disease and he couldn't do anything to help, so her parents decided to take care of her as they didnt trust Henry for that.
Henry then took on a job as firewatch, mainly to try and run away from those problems.
In his first day at the job, Henry is called by Delilah, his new "boss", through radio. The game then starts, and Delilah sends you on missions around the area. And thats basically what you do through the game.
It doesnt sound like much at first, but the exploration part is really enjoyable. It actually made me wanna get a job as a firewatch just so I could get out of the big city and explore the wilderness. And maybe, just maybe, I would get a fun boss like Delilah to order me around.

OH GOD, DELILAH! HOW I LOVE YOU SO!!
Delilah is the main reason I enjoyed this game so much. She keeps you company while you explore the forest.
She is a woman with a fun personality, so its hard to get bored when she is talking.
The voice actors did an amazing job. Delilah and Henry conversations really feels natural.
I wish the game was longer so I could listen to more of their dialogues!

But alas, thats pretty much all the game has going for it. So you will either love it or hate it.
There is a plot, but in my opinion it was one of the worse cases of "wasted potential" I seen in a game.
Wont talk much about it so I dont spoil anything. Just dont think much about it and enjoy the ride.
The game is short but very comfy, so buy it and play during the weekend. It will be worth it.

You actually feel that you are playing the role of Hank (He doesn't like that name) through the choices that you make. Tho voice acting is absolutely amazing and the art style reminds me of a Disney film (Kinda like UP) aesthetically. The only knock on the game is the pseudo-open world. There were times where I could not cross a rock because of an invisible wall, but luckily this wasn't very annoying. I managed to finish it in just under 4 hours or so, but I have the feeling that there is ALOT that I did not manage to see in my first playthrough, such as how the relationship with Delilah would have turned out had I perhaps been more harsh on her.

Is Firewatch worth the £15 price tag? If you are someone who judges the price of a game on it's gametime, then maybe not. But if you value the experience of a game and how it makes you feel more than game time, then £15 is a near steal for the sheer emotional rollercoaster that it will manage to take you on in just 4 hours.

Note:This is the first review I have ever given for a game, so forgive me if I done a shoddy job of it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Excellent game for the non-gamers and gamers alike. It requires a certain maturity and attention span to play. Most cellphone-addicted teenagers wouldn't find this very interesting. It's a very short game, which is its best strength: it's great for casual gamers who want a fun experience without too much time commitment, but also a quick change of pace for most hardcore gamers out there. But if you're someone who wants a lot of content out of his game, you should probably skip this. This is all about the ambiance and the mystery.

As someone who hasn't played a great many story-driven single player games, I found myself interested in this one. I didn't feel overwhelmed with things to do, because it's driven by a single "quest" every day, and you have a friendly voice guiding you. The mystery is effective. The ending is slightly disappointing, and you'd have hoped of at least finding a picture of Delilah in her tower or something. When I saw that she wasn't there, I started thinking it had all been a lie, until I found her drawing. So the mystery does keep going until the very end.

The biggest flaw with this game is how you can't go past certain objects and terrain elevation that looks like you easily could. It takes away from the immersion tremendously. The small list of actions gets repetitive as well. I would have liked to see a little bit of extra content/hidden areas that aren't related to the main story, and having the opportunity to explore the area that you can see a little more would have made this an absolutely amazing game.

Despite its flaws, it's a gorgeous game with great voice acting and an effective, realistic mystery. Recommended.

Having just played Gone Home (another interactive storytelling experience) just yesterday, I immediately preordered this game, and pre-loaded it. I may or may not have also called out of work to play it on release...
No, I was actually sick, and didn't have much better to do.

And, may I say, it was most certainly worth it.

Now, despite being of the same genre, unimaginatively titled "walking simulator" by some (which i think is biased and has a negative connotation out of the starting gate) and having the same musical composer, this title and Gone Home are succinctly different.

By the way, that composer, Chris Remo, really knows how to create atmosphere with a limited but soulful instrumental palette.

Anyways, Firewatch is beautifully rendered and colored, and does a bang-up job capturing the midwest with an art style that isn't too samey, even as you walk through trees, trees, and more trees. Its environments are built well and I found that it was fairly easy to navigate if you've read a map before, (I turned off the player indicator for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles/to test my navigation skills) though I am not a fan of only contextual jumping. Let me jump on things that look jump-onable, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥it.
That being said there is a reasonable amount of environmental obstacles that you need to traverse, and they are perfectly reasonable and flow well with navigation.

Now, if you read my review of Gone Home, you will know what matters most to me in this interactive story experience is just that: the story.
I found myself easily falling into the protagonist Henry's shoes as he is a bit like me, though considerably older, (and in terms of hobbies I'd probably be more like Brian Goodwin). I found his story at the beginning heartbreaking, but enough to bring you up to speed, and the dialog/story options were and interesting feature, though I have a feeling all roads lead to Rome, so to speak.
I really felt the connection between Delilah and Henry as well, very well acted and the amount of dialog choices was plentiful enough to feel like you are actually influencing the conversation. In fact, early on I made a comment that made Delilah annoyed and leave her radio for a second, and I felt genuinely bad for having reacted the way I did.

I felt the story arced well at the beginning, but once it hit the turning point, where things got weirder, it lost its stride. Soon weeks and months were passing, and everything was a rush, and I needed to run all over the map to chase a mystery I didn't really feel was pulling together all that well. It was a lot like putting together a puzzle with no idea what the outcome will be, and being spoonfed pieces that don't fit together, and in the end it came together into something you wholeheartedly didn't expect and didn't really feel satisfied with.

The big reveal, the climax, wasn't really much of one. It left me depressed mostly because the ending to Henry and Delilah's relationship plotline ended in a somewhat lazy way. The mystery started out like it was Scully and Mulder exploring an enigma in a remote location in one of the better early episodes of The X-Files, but ended like one of the crappy episodes without Mulder in the 8th season, where the two cynics leave things completely unfinished.

Now, despite my complaints, I do think if you loved Gone Home, or enjoy interactive storytelling games (or *spits* walking simulators) you should play this game. It is more of a game than Gone Home, as I didn't find myself bored, or running through locations just to unlock the next story bit. Its also a lot more engaging to play with the conversation with a living voice, which you choose your words for. But, unfortunately, I don't think it is worth the price. I would disagree with the price of Gone Home as well, but I got it in a humble bundle, and this is coming longer after I finished that game than my review of it. Hindsight is 20/20 and all that. So, buy it on sale and play it. Love the characters and the location and even the gameplay.

But don't expect a great ending.

A background story with a lot of depth and a story which might as well have been in a good book.

The entry only prepares mentally prior to the game, but is well done in my opinion - already written above, a good book could hardly have started better.

The game itself would have still potential in terms of "side quests" because things unfortunately "hunted" only through the main quest, which is a shame, because the world itself is very beautiful and harmonious.

I'm impressed by the fabulous speakers! They bring at any time over the mood without fumble. The many possibilities of conversation (dialogue tree) leaves little to be desired, because if a conversation is reached, not dull the next play, but reference to the already conducted talks - stunning performance at the storyboard!

Technically the game is okay - animations operate smoothly and broadly only minor blunders. Unfortunately, some times my graphics drivers crashed, what first is an indication to me that here trifles with graphic engine are not quite round.

The price (€ 19.99) is justified only because of the good speakers - hopefully they have been well rewarded for it.

Conclusion: I had more a game with Fire Watcher quests and sidequests hoped, but received a outstanding coherent Mystery Adventure.

    Rating: 4/5 or 82/100

Now some negative things. The story is really short, a few hours max, the ending left me wondering "is that it?" and besides following the story there is almost nothing to do. And 20€ on Steam really is way way too much for this game considering there really isn't any replay value in it...

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the reason so many people are upset with this game is because of how they are used to all these Grandiose endings which in this games case would have meant a revelation of some big conspiracy or something along those lines. However anybody who actually felt the game as they played it and didn't just spend their time thinking forward to the possible explanations of the many questions the game created who have realised that this game is way to Human to end in any kind of Epic manner. This is a game about escapism and its futility. The game serving as both his physical Haven and a metaphor for his psychological one. The which started small then grew into an roaring beast was his Demons and problems back home which he could only every distract himself from but could never get rid of. always lingering in the back of his mind increasing in presence until it was once again brought to the forefront of his thoughts. This goes for all the characters in this game who are all on some escapist type situation as well. As for people complaining that Henry never got to meet Delilah, I honestly think it was better off this way. Imagine how horribly typical it would have been for Henry to meet Delilah, fall in love, and go off with her. The games purpose was too show the futility of escapism and how Delilah was only ever an escape for Henry and how the real woman in his life was Julia his wife back home. A happy ending between the two would have been i completed conflict with what the game was meant to represent. As for him never seeing her in general, I quiet liked that because it leaves Delilah seeming like some sort of perpetual mystery which only made her more interesting. Expand

Then the game finishes... and with a terrible ending that makes you feel you've been losing your time.

What looked like it could be a huge interesting plot ends with an extremely disappointing lazy outcome, and then you realise you paid 20 bucks for a game you've only been playing for ~3 hours (the game is no longer than that), doing nothing (it's one of those annoying walking simulators) and with a storyline that you will forget after a couple of months due to its bad ending.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was divided into two parts for me.
    ...
The good part: Great and very emotionally deep storytelling. Even with very simple graphics, you are imbued with a hero. Even with a very primitive gameplay, you love every walk in this park. A very interesting thing with a drawing that Delilah did about you.
    ...
The bad part: I really disliked the invisible walls, when you can jump over this log, but you can't do the same with that one. Exactly the same!
Yes, yes, the entire "gaming World" was divided into those who liked the ending and those who did not... I'm in the middle :)
I completely understood the plot of this game, and I understand those who say that it is good. Like "The game played with us, as we did with it. All this is a wild surprise from the opposite direction. That what we find at the end is just as cool and emotionally heavy". Yes it is... but it does not change the fact that we do not know a thing about what kind of camp it was behind the fence with all those computers. Why did Delilah not know about it for so many years, although she can see perfectly far from her tower? What was this conversation that we overheard(in case you forgot, it was AFTER the wire was cut)? Why did she almost seduce us the whole game, and in the end everything was cut off - "go to my wife", "I won't wait, I'm leaving now"? Plus, she constantly lied on little things and cheated, judging by the note from the box, which did not add credibility to her leaving in the end.
    ...
I consider myself to be in the middle because I liked the game, I liked the ending, but it also disappointed me. Not because I was waiting for some Hollywood action or like that, but it looked like as if they decided to change the story or end it, leaving something else behind that was given in the middle of the game.

The soundtrack is amazing. Special thanks to this free-roam mode at the end of the game, which allows you to play with the music you love the most (I have to go with the 'Prologue' one).
The map is large enough to offer many different scenes and environments without being huge or boring to navigate.
We can complain about the ending, but it feels like it was premeditated. because there are way more clues than we actually think there is. It is like the more you get into it, the more you invest yourself in the mind-blowing plot.

Ora analizzerò il gioco per punti.

    Audio e grafica:

    Storia (no spoiler):

    Voto: 8/10

You know, this kind of warmth that comes from hands of your grandma which you visit once or twice a year, this warmth that comes from candles on your dinner table on the Christmas night, this warmth that is radiated by the bonfire you and your father made one cold summer night beside a calm river. This "game"... Forgive me but I can't call it "a game". It is not a game - it is an interactive story. So this INTERACTIVE STORY from the very beginning with its visual style, music, setting, even the animation and gameplay makes you feel comfortable, cozy, peaceful. Campo Santo created a beautiful place where you want to come back to after a stressful day and just walk around that dream-like forest...alone. Kind of. You have your colleague: Deliah. This is where the game shines the most - the characters are developed beyond any praise. The dialogues are one of the best in history of videogames. The voice acting is top notch. From the very beginning Deliah feels like a real person and Henry isn't just a character - you become Henry after some time thanks to the great job the creators made in the beginning by introducing Henry's backstory and giving you a chance to play your role in that as well.

Though it is a story-driven "game" the plot here isn't something phenomenal so don't expect to be blown away by some crazy twist that turns everything upside down. But that what makes it special, in my opinion. In the end of the day you realize that all what happened actually could happen in real life and that makes the whole experience more relatable and believable. I think the goal here was to tell a really grounded story in order to provide the most immersive experience possible even if that experience consists out of just walking and talking to your colleague over radio - I even will go as far as saying that the main focus of the game is on the dialogues and everything else is a backdrop, a driving power for these dialogues and I wouldn't mind to experience the whole story just as an audiobook.

Conclusion: This game isn't for everyone - this game is for those who are looking for escape from their chaotic and tumultuous lives. In Firewatch you don't fight monsters, you don't seek revenge, you don't try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, you don't save the world - you "watch fire".

Firewatch's biggest strength is the dialogue. Its some of the best writing for conversations that I have ever heard in a videogame. The game has many positives, but also many negatives. I think the gameplay could have been a bit more interesting. And the overall story was pretty good. But there could have been more. I think the ending is surprising yet disappointing, but in a way brilliant. And I think, if it were a movie, this ending would work perfectly. But here, I have a few issues with it. But its still a good ending. Thematically, this game approaches issues like grief, acceptance, disappointments and trauma so well. This is why the ending works. It is a story about TEMPORARY escape. And its biggest strength but also flaw are the visuals. They are incredibly beautiful. But sadly, after 1 or 2 hours of playing it, I got bored. It just looked all the same in the end. And this does not just apply with the visuals but the game itself:it needed more variety.
Its overall still a good game and I like the twists and turns but it was just rather disappointing, since everybody was hyping it up.

The game has its strong points on the visual design, the story-line, the characters, the sound mixing & the graphics. Its weak points are hard-to-use navigation system, clunky movement & something personally about me, ambiguous endings, just not for me. So yeah, I like the game, but don't love it.

One of the features that I like is the game doesn't have many gameplay mechanics; which lets you fully dive into the story and don't get distracted by your health or inventory. Of course, this does make the game boring and short, but I don't think Campo Santos was planning to make Firewatch last for 10-15 hours.

Chris Remo, a composer for Firewatch, did an amazing job at creating soundtracks and organizing them to add more tension and relief into your walkthrough. The switches and smooth entrances of each soundtrack can give you goosebumps, and even without looking at the game, you will know when something is about to happen, or you are about to find some clues.

The graphics of the game are simple yet very complex and well made. The whole designing team did an amazing job translating light and full forest into a video game. I was satisfied to walk through it and enjoy the sound of singing birds and the beauty of the sunset through the leaves of many trees that fill up the game.

Firewatch has also a great future that I think many games should include, which is Play with Developers. In this mode, you can play the regular story mode, but have little stands with tape stands around the map, where developers talk about how they came up with a certain thing or the general work that went into the specific level. It was interesting to listen to how for example Chris Remo came up with the tracks, or why there are tons of books in the game.

I recommend buying the game and trying it out yourself. Yes, many people say that the game is short, but it doesn't mean it's bad, just a good mystery story made into a videogame.

The game pretends to be something it's not for the entirety of its length until the "mystery" is solved, which is going to annoy a lot of people.

The scripted sequences that progress the narrative and the interactions through relationship building and dialogue are the finer points of the game and make the experience one that I would say is entirely worth it even though the second and third acts gradually slack off and leave a sour taste in the mouth. What starts as a mystery I would love to uncover gradually morphs into something that even X-Files would shudder at in terms of just how much it seems to retcon earlier information and make liberal use of “video game logic.” What is at first an entirely believable and enjoyably realistic experience seems to hoodwink even the player themselves and end with a less than stellar thought.

Concept: Explore the wilderness and a potential cover up and other intriguing events in the backwoods of Wyoming over the course of a summer with your fellow fire watchers.

Graphics: It certainly has its own unique look and reminds me more of graphics or posters sometimes than a realistic or cartoon style of visuals in games.

Sound: Although characters never meet face to face per se, the voice work is well done and showcases an incredible level of detail and emotion in the way it conveys the words from script to realization.

Playability: It is quite literally a stroll through the woods and an enjoyable experience lacking difficulty but not lacking for substance.

Entertainment: Games in this genre are slow going but if you can get into the story then you’ll be right at home for at least seventy percent of the game or so.

    Replay Value: Low.

You'll spend 90% of your time either exploring the wilderness or talking to your fellow fire-watchman, a woman by the name of Delilah, over the radio. So it's good then that these two parts of the game really are excellent, there is real chemistry in the radio banter between you and D. and the exploration is also fantastically done. I really applaud them for going with a handheld map and compass rather than just an automatic mini-map, it really makes the game that much more immersive and realistic.

I also think that the graphics and audio design was very well done for such a small studio, there is a lot of love put in here. However - the problem I have with this game (and why the score stays at a seven) is that the game pretends like there's choice and consequence, but there really isn't. No matter what choices you make basically everyone who play this game is going to have the same emotional roller-coaster and the same ending.

And while I understand that branching story lines and alternate endings take time and money to create it's especially painful this time around since I think this game could have been a real masterpiece, had we been allowed to explore some different endings depending on our choices. The net effect is that rather than feeling like we've been given something decent, the feeling I have is that I've been robbed of greatness. Video games are a unique medium in that they have the possibility to allow for choice and consequence, and to not take advantage of that in this case almost feels like a cardinal sin.

There is so much that could have been done here in terms of keeping quiet on the radio, or not saying certain things on the radio, or delaying saying certain things to a certain someone, or not falling for someone's obvious trap. But nothing of that ever happens or pays off, this game is a "corridor-adventure-game" for a lack of a better term. You might initially think that there is choice and consequence, but this game is sadly a lot dumber than it initially makes itself out to be.

I will also say that while I personally liked the current ending I think it may be a little too realistic, mature and underwhelming for mass-market tastes. Had the current ending been one of say three possible endings it would have been stellar, but since it's the only ending I think many will find it underwhelming.

I debated long and hard whether I should give this game a 7 or an 8. In the end I decided that I can't reward coming this close to greatness and then falling short of the mark. This could have been a 9, or maybe even a 10, score game with the right branching story treatment but it simply falls short, and that is indeed painful

Overall the game was enjoyable with a great atmosphere, I spent a large portion of the game on edge, with a feeling that something terrible was about to happen to me. The audio was top notch with amazing voice work from all involved, especially the main characters themselves, this was definitely the high point of the game. Visually it was just OK, with some low quality assets and textures that just looked off at times. Technically once again just OK, being a Unity engine game it did have some jank like asset load stutter, hitching and random frame rate drops even when installed on a SSD with a PC capable of running the game maxed out at well north of 60fps, it's definitely not the worst Unity title I've played, though.

I'm a big fan of this genre and I do recommend Firewatch if you are too but it's not the cream of the crop, for that you'd want to play something like "What Remains of Edith Finch" which is just incredible.

If you read this, but have been put off by the critical assessment of the ending, let me tell you this. The game does not end in a James Bond, Die Hard or X-Files climax with guns blazing and explosions everywhere, but more nuanced and gradual. For me, this is a realistic depiction of the world we live in. People wishing for a more exciting, staccato ending might have watched too many movies where they should have gone out in the world and experience life as it is.

Why a 7? The game perfectly achieves what (I think) it aims to do. The main meat of the game, the relationship between Delilah and Henry, shines and the voice acting is great. However, the game is short and linear and the plot is okay but has some holes and is not fully believable. An extra couple of months of writing would have served the game well.

If you like atmospheric and thought-provoking games, I urge you to buy The Witness instead.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's a rather short game, which came as no surprise to me. About 6 hours and that's with me being explorative and often deviating to explore the game world and try to "cheat" the system by i.e. finding a way around some area when the game (rather, Delilah) - tells me to go through a cave. The game has a bit of expectations for that and there are dialogues for situations that can only happen if you are explorative (vs. just following the main quest).

These dialogues and side deviations don't affect the main story though. The main story is quite unpredictable and certainly not stereotypical. On a few occasions - it kept me on my toes awaiting something epic or dangerous to be around the corner. Without introducing any stereotypical horror game elements, it creates an atmosphere of "umm... I have a _REALLY_ bad feeling about this... Not exactly sure why though... So I'm gonna say that I'm OK and will go ahead anyway."

The game is for a very mature audience. This game is filled with dialogue and situations that teenagers just won't get. At times it gets so realistic that it's almost painful.

It kind of shows how horrifying our real world can be... without any fantasy monsters, alien invaders, zombie apocalypse or secret societies...
Just laws of nature, probability theory, human error followed by human weakness/fear of facing consequences... And so many lives can be ruined.

It's more of a story than a game though. Looking back I remember playing it more like watching a movie. Just follow the story line and watch it unfold. You can try to explore a bit and you'll find a handful of one-off dialogues and items here and there that are nice but don't really matter. All points it gets are for the story, because it has pretty much nothing else. But the story is quite decent.

If you are into seriously good gameplay and that's pretty much it please don't buy this game, this game is more of a narrative its the story and the overall presentation that makes this game good not the gameplay, the environment is severely limited in interactions and roaming around so don't expect that at all. This game is very linear in everyway but it is also very original from the story to the gameplay and the overall concept of it. this game is only about 4 hours in length and replay ability is not very high.

However this game does show you what is great about gaming and how games can portray a story and emotions without everything being overly complicated, FIREWATCH is an example of what games use to be and are still capable of before multiplayer and sandbox style games became a thing it shows you that if the basics of game creation are done right it can be just as immersive as any other game and pull you in entirely for those 4 hours and make you sad but satisfied when you are finished.

Overall I would give FIREWATCH a 7.5/10 because I don't personally believe that its worth $20 in todays market only being 4 hours in length, but the story itself propels this game up into the 7.5 range.

To summarize it was good, but could have been immensely better.

The story here has so much potential until the devs decided to be lazy and destroyed it with a disappointing ending by not concluding the story well enough and I expected an epilogue or multiple endings. The gameplay was very good, story was tense and compelling enough to keep you finish the game in one seating, The characters were interesting and their voice acting was very good. Firewatch is hands down the best, the most engaging first person walker I have ever played. Something doesn’t let me rate it higher though, and I guess it’s my common sense. [04/2016, p.50]

The look of this game is nothing short of stunning… Each detail is carefully designed and thought out with a charming feel to it overall.

This unconventional game combines strong story, beautiful natural surroundings and fantastically written and played characters. What it lacks in classic adventure mechanics, it makes up in great dialogue system between the main protagonists. [Issue#262]
