Not to be outdone by "Winning Eleven 6," EA Sports has pulled out all the stops and created a soccer game that is second to none... I dare you to find a soccer game where the ball moves so dynamically and realistically. [Nov 2003, p.108]

Offers the most significant changes the game has seen in years. The core gameplay is changing ever so slowly from super arcade play to a more comprehensive, more realistic style of soccer, and the series is better for it. But it's not quite there yet.

Other than the lackluster practice mode, everything in FIFA 2004 is spot-on.
  4. Updated and revamped, FIFA 2004 is a whole new ball game.
  5. But however much positive energy we lavish on FIFA all the areas that EA beats Konami on - bar online - are simply gloss. In a straight tussle between the games, we just don't enjoy playing FIFA as much as we do "PES3," and, for most of you, that's what matters.
  6. The game has a bit of a learning curve, and unfortunately, the Practice mode could've been more intuitive, like "Madden 2004's" Minicamp mode.

An entertaining game, and though it still can't quite match Konami's "Winning Eleven 6" on PS2, it's heading in the right direction. [Feb 2004, p.74]
  8. The controls simply ruin the overall experience.
  9. Despite its many positive attributes, its most important element--gameplay--simply doesn't seem to be advancing quite as quickly as it should.
  10. Long time followers of the series will likely not find much new aside from the addition of Career Mode in place of Season.

It might be a rough console port, but it's still the best soccer game on any platform. [Feb 2004, p.89]

Even with its overly ambitious new 'Off The Ball' interface the FIFA series is still a long way from capturing the true essence of the beautiful game. [Dec 2003, p.127]

The worst thing any game can be is predictable, and FIFA Soccer 2004 is one of the most predictable sports game in recent memory. [Feb 2004, p.72]

Look how they massacred my boy Dinho, literally copied a monkey face above his body. If this game was made in this day and age Electronic ArtsLook how they massacred my boy Dinho, literally copied a monkey face above his body. If this game was made in this day and age Electronic Arts would be cancelled and bankrupt, without all the awful things pioneered by this capitalism giant, like stealing all the major devs from rival companies after a competitor game succeeds and child gambling. This game is the first hint of the evil nature of this disgraceful company, that should be publicly referred as the NestlĂ© of the gaming industry. Full Review »
