Players who preferred last year's fast, arcade feel can boost up the speed in the options settings, but fans of more thoughtful, deliberate play will likely enjoy the challenge and pace of this year's iteration.
  2. I found myself playing all night, and well into the next day (8 AM). To make matters worse I'm not even a soccer (or football, whichever you prefer) fan really.
  3. Hard core and casual gamers will agree this is the best soccer game to date.
  4. Much more than just an annual rehash - it repairs whatever damage was done by last year's version, heads in a more authentic direction, and offers numerous new features.

The gameplay is a nice mix of intricate strategy and fast-paced action; online play is an option; and commentators John Motson and Mark Lawrenson are back, accents and all.

The increased pitch and graphics alone will probably appeal to you in a big way but the Internet play should be a big draw as well.
  7. Fantastic visuals and solid gameplay, and the addition of multiplayer increases the replay value considerably.
  8. You can finally enable player names to appear below each player on the pitch, and this makes is so much easier to tell who is who. The game is loaded with modest and subtle changes like this that end up adding a lot to the game.
  9. With the PC's internet potential yet to be realised it could well be the making of a classic.

In a field of one, it's king. [Feb 2001, p.71]
  11. The only real problem here is that the game still plays a bit too fast.
  12. If you bought last year's version of FIFA, you basically already own this game.
  13. I had a lot more fun with the PSX version of Fifa 2001. Sure, it's also an arcade experience, but the passes don't move as fast, the tackles aren't as vicious and there isn't the useless shoot bar. Fifa 2001 PC is a huge disappointment and it's time the Fifa series got a major overhaul.
  14. A solid, fun game that takes a baby step instead of a leap.
