It is a quite enjoyable Far Cry 3 experience. But it is dark, sometimes it was difficult to make out things even though the enemies have neon lights on them. I was also plagued by the very first mission and the lack of save: 2 crash to desktop, 3 mission failed. After that, everything worked out fine. The jokes are relatively funny, the audio is good.

A deliberately cheesy, and funny 1980's B-movie video game homage. Michael Biehn has cool voice, so he is doing a nice job as Rex Colt, the protagonist. "You don't mow down lawns, you mow down lives!"

This game is so ridiculous it's good. The sound is great and the guns have a nice "pop" to them. The visuals are better than decent and the campaign is 3 or 4 hours long.

Essentially a total conversion mod for FC3, Blood Dragon offers a few hours of delightfully cheesy gameplay that retains the rock-solid open-world shooter mechanics of the original game.

It's OK. I loved FC3 and Blood Dragon as a DLC is decent given the low price. Interesting environment and theme is worthwhile. The dialogue is a bit weird, SLOW, and at one point it's like "get on with it already." But I would recommend it.

Great for what it is, though 100% completion is advised to make the most of the relatively short story missions. Its a condensed Far Cry 3 for players to test it out, and more than likely they will buy it.

Play as Rex Power Colt: Half Man, Half Cyborg, All Badass. Blood Dragon is a solid shooter that holds its own against the overhyped triple-A releases of the last 2 years. Ironically, I had more fun playing BD—a mere quasi DLC—than I did Far Cry 3. This is because BD trims off the fat and focuses on Far Cry’s core elements: Open world campaign and smooth combat.

Ironically, I had more fun playing BD—a mere quasi DLC—than I did Far Cry 3. This is because BD trims off the fat and focuses on Far Cry’s core elements: Open world campaign and smooth combat.

BD spoofs how 1980’s Hollywood portrayed the future. The game’s 2007 setting is the past for us, but in 1984 that was “the future”. Some of us are still waiting on self-lacing shoes …. After reading reviews, I can tell a lot gamers missed this entire premise. How sad for them.

Spoofing one of the finest forms of flattery, and underneath its humor, BD pays homage to the 80’s action/sci-fi movie genres. Numerous iconic movies came out during the 80’s which set the gold standards for those genres. Despite their groundbreaking successes, many movies employed overflowing machoism, paper thin stories and characters, gratuitous violence, explosions, and babes. Blood Dragon evokes much appreciated nostalgia by shamelessly poking fun at all those aspects while making tongue in cheek jabs at current issues. The humor is a tad forced at times, but overall the game feels like an 80’s B-movie laced with GIJoe cartoons.

Like FC3, the campaign consists of a main story and side missions. Players can easily log 10+ hours. The first hour is linear and scripted, but after that, the world opens up. There are noticeable differences between BD and FC3. The island playground is smaller and there is less wildlife. Foraging is gone, so no infinite syringes. There are fewer weapons, but upgrade options are way better.

Garrisons are fun to wreck. They are large, multilevel bases. Their design accommodates every style of play. Jumping off catwalks to knife a cyborg on the way down and then decapitating its ally with a throwing star is badass—and easily done. Stealth in FC3 is less exciting, except to players who enjoy creeping with a bow. And being a cyborg, Rex’s movement is greatly enhanced, so motion is quick and smooth.
The game weighs in at a lite 3Gb. Hurray!! This is impressive since shooters have become hefty at 15Gb+. Yet, no serious compromises were made. BD doesn’t pack in a gazillion textures like FC3, but it’s still visually stunning. The game takes place at night, and the missing day/night cycle irks hardcore FC fans. But this absence is necessary to highlight the retro effects—or should I say pyrotechnic light show. Laser beams and glowing enemies light up the dark landscape. Beside, who plays laser tag in broad daylight? The game is fairly demanding, but that is par for the course with Ubisoft titles these days. Players need a beefy graphics card and plenty of memory. Players have complained about poor gamma and floating horizontal bars on their displays. That effect is an artifact of VHS tapes. It isn’t a glitch, just a piece of the 80’s some of us had to endure. Annoying ain’t it?

The voice acting and music really shine. The cheesy one-liners and over-the-top character voices are so fitting, and Michael Biehn’s role is a definitely a treat for older gamers. The soundtrack is awesome. The most notable songs reference Terminator, Predator, and Above the Law. It’s definitely one of the best video game soundtracks of the last decade. It’s up there with Mass Effect.

So what’s the bad? Nothing really, but I do have a few complaints. Foremost, the story is short. Without mixing in side missions, expect 4 hours of play. Next, the mission zones have invisible barriers. So once a garrison or objective marker is activated, players cannot leave the area. More annoyingly, they can be activated from far away. And going just a few steps outside the invisible barrier causes death. This breaks the immersion and works against the open world concept.

Rex feels powerful, but not cyborg powerful. Overall, his abilities are underwhelming. And character progression could’ve been more interesting. Abilities automatically unlock as Rex levels up. This didn’t bother me too much. It’s a shooter, I ain’t got time to allocate skill points. A more valid complaint regards weapon unlocks. Players can’t purchase items until they complete side quests and collect dozens of collectibles. Each unlock is tied to a specific mission or collectible. So unlocking everything requires grinding.

And like FC3, there isn’t much enemy variety (animals aside). However, the baddies in Blood Dragon are more interesting. Laser shooting dinosaurs!! I miss the 80’s….

At $15, Blood Dragon delivers huge bang for the buck. It’s a shining example of quality over quantity. There are no tacked on elements to drag this game down. The complaints above are minor considering the over-the-top fun factor. Level design is solid. Gunplay is smooth. Visuals are slick. FC3 is fun, but offering gamers a similar experience in a different neon packaged spinoff is better than milking it to death with DLC.

The game is based on the Far Cry 3 engine, and developed by the same people. It's basically just a re-skin, with a couple of new voice actors and a stereotypical 80's B-movie story, and it works for what it is. A great parody on the movies I grew up with, I loved every minute of the experience, but the again. If you're too young to have seen or understand what the game is about, the you're probably better of with the original Far Cry 3.

Set in a parodic 80s SF action movie world it features cyber-soldiers, cyber-sharks, and yes, you've guessed it, cyber-dragons. The emphasis is on guns blazing although there are missions that require stealth as well. The dialogue is often funny, sometimes hilarious, and the story and voice acting are pretty good too. It's a fairly short game, but it's not bad value for money (I got it for free, as part of the Ubisoft 30 celebrations so I'm not complaining). I enjoyed FC3BD every bit as much as FC3, perhaps even more so in some respects; mainly because of the emphasis on humour. It's a laugh, it's great fun, and the number of collectibles isn't ridiculous (I collected all of them). Highly recommended.

This was a fun game filled with tons of goofy, cheesy throwbacks to the 80's. It's not super long, but if you've always wanted to play like you were the Terminator, this is definitely a feels-good game to play for a night or two.

Unfortunately, I couldn't give the game more than an 8 for two reasons. The first being that each main mission takes a long time to complete and it isn't possible to save in the middle of them. This means that if you have to quit for whatever reason, you can't save your game mid-mission and must forfeit all the progress you made up until that point.

The second reason is that in MY particular case, I had the game BSOD and crash on me several times during my playthrough, which exacerbated the frustration I had from the first reason. YMMV, of course, but I found it rather irritating having to go through the same areas over and over again because of how long each main mission was.

The ending was a bit underwhelming and the majority of the map is unused and reserved for side missions, but overall, I recommend trying out this game because of how unique it is. You probably won't find another one like this for a very long time.

Story is okay. Definitely not the strongest point of the game. Some nuclear war happened and our character fighting against cyborgs or something.

Gameplay is same as fc3 but some mechanics are dumbed down. Crafting and learning skill is removed.

Neon light atmosphere and some references.

Pretty good overall. Ridiculously fun spin off.

Perhaps the best change that's been made since Far Cry 3 is the removal of tedious crafting and the constant need to run to a trader to sell your collection of miscellaneous junk, although the 2-second looting animation still remains. Your character's ability to sprint indefinitely, jump high enough to perform death from above takedowns on enemies standing right next to him, survive any fall and stay underwater indefinitely are also vast improvements over FC3.

The writing is awful in an excellent way, I especially enjoyed the perfect deadpan of your unlikely ally/mount toward the end of the game.

Blood Dragon is an interesting off-shoot of the Far Cry franchise. It seeks to fit every 80's cyber punk cliche into one game and it succeeds. However, that's about all it has going for it that Far Cry 3 didn't already do better. The game is much more shallow than the original. The skill tree is fixed and you have no say in what unlocks next. half of the upgrades are simple health upgrades as well. You unlock attachments by completing missions and then you need to go purchase them at a shop, but it's really not all that worth since you get the best weapon in the game after 3-4 hours of gameplay. The story is full of cliches to make you laugh but it isn't interesting at all. The cutscenes are bad and you have no idea what you're doing in missions other than killing enemies. The worst part is how laughably short the game is. Even for a $15 title, a 4 hour story is quite bad. I even went through and liberated every camp, found every secret, and obtained every achievement and my game time didn't pass 7 hours. It should also be noted that this game requires the Uplay client even if the game is purchased on Steam. Uplay is slow, but I've never had a huge problem with it. Overall, Blood Dragon is an enjoyable game but simply doesn't live up to the standard set by Far Cry 3. Expand

But it isn't unplayable, or anything near it. It's a good, albeit short. A condense AAA gaming title for those who loved the Far Cry 3 engine and want a bit more, but at the same time something a bit different. You'll enjoy it just don't expect miracles in terms of depth or replayability.

Dr. Darling is cool though. The gameplay is much more fun with cyber weapons and upgrades. The best thing thoughis that THE HUNTING IS GONE. Just running over animals got me a better rifle. Where the game falls short though is it's originality from farcry 3. Garrisons are just bigger outposts and there arent any super cars like i hoped. I prefer the open nature of Far Cry 3. BUT THE WORST THING A GAME CAN DO IS NOT AUTOMATICALLY SAVE YOUR PROGRESS - so I close the game after 30 mins of play and I find I am returned to an earlier part that took me ages to get through. This is a complete no-no. I dont want to keep replaying something I completed. It should check point better than this.. also it is not possible to save "because you are in a mission" so nightmare!

I dont like the green alien nature of this game. However, there is something about ii that makes some aspects better than plain Far Cry. Perhaps it is the AI - seems a little more intelligent. But I hate the dragons. And the aggressive animals are not enjoyable at least in Far Cry you felt like you were hunting them for fun. In this game they just make a difficult situation irritating.

I am about to put this game away because I dont want to repeat same levels again - there is no doubt this is the worst feature of this game, I hope this and the lack of openness are dealt with in future releases then I will become a fan!

    Plusy:
    + ogólny klimat
    + zabawne dialogi i cut-scenki
+ czysta frajda płynąca z rozgrywki
+ nawiązania do klasyki kina science fiction
    + dinozaury strzelające laserami! ;-)

    Minusy:
    – nie każdemu te klimaty przypadną do gustu
    – mało zmian w stosunku do oryginału
    – krótki główny wątek fabularny
    – zbyt ciemna stylistyka otoczenia

No, it is not better than the original Far Cry 3. The thing is it doesn't even try to a better game. Damn, it doesn't even want to be a great game. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon ended up to be exactly what it tried to be: a quick, silly, caricature, parodic but full of fun game. This game doesn't try to be immersive or teach you a lesson - on the contrary it reminds you you are playing a video game every time it has a chance to. It is as though it says "Relax. Turn off your mind and have fun. I will take care of everything else." Because FC3:BD is actually a parody of movies from 80's and is a parody of videogames as a whole the ceiling it set for itself is pretty low from the very beginning. You can't create a strong, coherent, deep, moving story when your goal is to create a parody but on the other side you can create a quite funny and action-packed story. That's exactly what Ubisoft did with Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. The gameplay is full of action and shooting and all sorts of explosions. The dialogues are funny thanks to the constant self awareness and self irony of the characters and the caricature nature of the game but the story... That's where the parodic nature of the title shows its flaws: it is hard being a good story while at the same time you are trying to exaggerate and make fun of other plot's flaws. For me the story wasn't consistent or coherent. I remember different missions but don't remember exactly how they all came together, what unites them, how one was necessary for the other, etc. The end also doesn't make much sense to me and the whole ending feels abrupt. Overall it feels like the story in Blood Dragon exists only as a reason to give the player a reason to headshot cyber soldiers, fight dragons and yeah, save the world.

We could get a great videogame but in the end all we got is a promising game in the begining but which got crippled by the idea of not getting itself too seriously. Yes, Blood Dragon is a mediocre game but it is exactly what it wanted and intended to be. Anyway, it will be hard for you to find a better mediocre game ;)

The game was sold as a standalone, but i wonder if it was necessary. It should have been a DLC for Far Cry 3 since its pretty much the same game polished with crappy neon lighting graphics . Well a $15 DLC would have raised eyebrows, so they released it as a standalone $15 game and everyone is going "WOW UBISOFT FAN SERVICE FTW !!".....People are praising its humor but its pretty lame and cheesy, in the 7 missions you get there are some lolz moment but not that much to the extent that it may be used to describe this game.
The game is very easy. its the first game where i haven't died even once. You just jump on people and its insta kill with bonus exp. You dont have to be above them, just run to someone and press Spacebar..If another enemy is nearby u score a bonus comb kill on him too. This is what modern FPS shooters have come to, kiddie friendly game play with no challenge at all. I'm sure there will be a video on YouTube showing someone finishing the game using a knife only.

The storyline is really short and there's no indication it's as short as it is. It doesn't really take you through the whole map even. So you have to go around and somewhat aimlessly complete the map yourself before completing the storyline. The weapons weren't fun to use.

The game is almost identical with Far Cry 3. Gameplay is the same except of the skill tree and the animals and characters have just been rebranded to look 'futuristic', which they really don't. The only difference in terms of new enemies/characters are the blood dragons. However Far Cry: Blood Dragon is a game where the developers kinda just left when the game wasn't done. Under detailed enviroments and similarity is one of the most worst things of the game. All the quests seem much similar, way more than in Far Cry 3.

The game however does have its charm with all the its jokes that kinda made me laugh in the start, but just became lame after a while.

I'd give this a 5 out of 10, because the game would offer a lot of fun to players which haven't experienced Far Cry 3 and just want to get a little nip of it, without cashing too much out.

In Far Cry 3, some things like sidequests were simply bad, but here they are deliberately so bad, they're good. This does feel like a far cry 3 mod though, with a lot of recycled content, and the story is very short, but if you felt mixed about Far Cry 3, you will probably enjoy this more, as long as you don't take it seriously.

B-Game that crams as many references in audio, dialog and visual as it can from famous 1980's films, such as RoboCop, The Terminator, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back. These are just a few of the many. There is no story, and that's fine, that's what it was made to be, something so stupid and ridiculous you can't help but laugh. However as fun as this may all seem it ends almost as soon as it begins.

The first thing you're going to notice is how fast you run and never get tired, add that with how shockingly small the map is there is no need for auto/fast travel. You will never take any fall damage and it is almost impossible to die, even on Hard. While the cyber vision is a cool feature you will never use it making it worthless. It claims to help point out enemies, but every single enemy is drastically highlighted in a neon cloud before you even see the enemy itself, in fact, everything but the grass and trees are covered in neon lights. The A.I. is borderline non-existent, a liner script of walk to point A to point B and shoot the player. The side-missions only add an illusion of a sandbox game. There are only two types, Hostage Rescue and Hunt. The fort capture adds more to that illusion. There's also T.V. sets and V.H.S. tapes to find around the map to complete the illusion of a sand box game. Yet if it wanted to be a sand box, it would be much larger and would not have every single item, animal, base and enemy on your map.

There are two types of enemies you're going to run into. Animals, and Androids. The models are the exact same for the androids except for some very minor change to look like a different class. The animals can be said the same for their type. The weapons again are made on references to films, while there are upgrades for half of the weapons, they are worthless and do not help in any manner.

The gameplay is the now required linear go to point A, shoot and blow up, rinse, repeat. The story itself (ignoring the side missions, bases, etc.) will be completed in under an hour, and because the weapons are so powerful and no skill at all is required to play any part of this game you may even do it in under 45 minutes. Adding in the other things, you might get about 2 4 hours out of it. All in all, if you want to relive an '80's experience, are a fan of Michael Biehn, or want to laugh at pure stupidity then this is it, but for $15 it's not worth it, maybe for $10 or $5

The trailer accurately shows off the main drawcard of this game- the cheesy homage to 1970s-80s action sci-fi genre. Had the plot paid this homage with wit and satire this may have been more interesting- instead it is a montage of predictable cliche that quickly wears thin faster than the recycled wisecracks uttered by your hero.

    But what about the gameplay?

Well it's dull. The hardest difficulty truly is laughably easy for even the most casual FPS gamer and the main campaign can be completed in a couple of hours. This lack of content is filled by an "open-world" approach. Unfortunately this open world is distinguished by repetitive terrain (exposed hills, windy roads, water) with repetitive side missions (2 types- save hostage or kill animal) and repetitive enemies (6 types; blood dragon cyborg with either pistol, submachine gun, minigun, flamer, or molotov) on an unimaginative map (island with 4 identical sectors). Supposedly adding more depth to this is a collectible system where those with a completionist streak must wander the landscape one-shotting animals, and picking up TVs, notepads, VHS tapes etc. Collectibles and side mission will grant you access to weapon upgrades which will increase their power. These enhancements are superfluous for progressing the main story and entirely unnecessary for it's completion in the late stage- I'm avoiding the use of spoilers here but I mean "unnecessary" in the most literal sense possible. Finally if you thought the final boss in Aliens: Colonial Marines was an epic disappointment then you'll be even more surprised by this one!

Essentially this game plays like an ambitious mod by a small team. But such mods are meant as fun, and temporary, distractions from a bigger game. If you are looking for such a distraction, and are intrigued by the setting, then you may find Blood Dragon worthwhile for a few dollars on sale- just do not expect to find a complete and engrossing game. Personally, however, I believe better value can be found from among Steam's Indie selections.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game has WORST GAME SAVING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. You can't save a game during a mission, and when you try to do so, it brings you an error that "you cant save game during a mission, the game will be saved automically when you reach the checkpoint". I am at the dam level, and reached a lot of checkpoints, and reached the scientist. I have leaved the game here, and guess what? When i launched the game again, i had to do the whole mission again! The game is very nice, has nice graphics and is a good recreation of a '80 film, but this bug doesn't let me play the game normally, thats why i gave it a 5. Expand

Unplayable bad lag on a computer than can run Far Cry 3 on high-ultra. Don't know if it's a problem with my graphics card or lazy coding but at this stage I should be able to get above 10 FPS on the lowest settings.

Was really looking forward to this game and I can't be sure if it's the dev's fault so I'll leave it at a five.

Game poses absolutely no threat or challange, no matter which difficulty you set, doesn't matter if you put yourself in deep sh*t with few dragons on your back. You will get out yawning in the process. The quality gap between classic Far Cry and this title (and any other post classic for that matter) is just unbelieveable.

The retro style of the "cinematics" could have been funny if they were not so horribly slow to a point where they become actually painful and get skipped altogether (not much to regret here as the corny story is by no means engaging). I could have forgiven the packaging if the game was actually to my taste. But I find the in-game graphics to be atrocious (a subpar Section 8 atmosphere, only uglier), sounds effects and voice acting are retro allright but above all grittingly annoying, the gameplay is clunky, with an approximative aiming, weapons have a very weird feeling to them. I know most of it is intended, but it ends just not being fun. It wants to be an arcade shooter but is bogged down by the pseudo-realistic physics of all modern shooters. My humble opinion, of course, but I don't recommend, even at this price. Expand

The graphic engine is the same of Far Cry 3, and many other things in the game are the same. Unfortunately seems to return back to old games of 90s, with story very very bland and no real upgrades of weapons. Also ambient is not so great. Too much easy, but i didn't like the idea of these stupid dinosaur without sense. All has no sense. No... disappointed.

Bought a steam version of the game and it was a huge disappointment. First Ubisofts Uplay annoys the crap out of me with their own DRM. Then the game itself is plain. It offers nothing that you haven't seen 10 years ago. Can't recommend this game to anyone.

Do not buy this game until they patch it. One more time Ubisoft released the product that is buggy as hell. On my GTX560ti it crashes every 35 minutes and won't save the progress between launches. From the looks of it (steam/uplay forums) by buying this game you are playing a roulette. For some it works. For many it doesnt.

This ruined Far Cry 3. For me, anyway. I used to see Far Cry 3 as a very survivalist, deep story and game. But 'Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon" does not serve as a good Standalone Expansion. I wouldn't even call it that. I'd call it a 'Same-Engine Shorter-Plot'. It is in no way connected to Far Cry 3.

The amazingly annoying tutorials, trying to pick fun, only amuses 14 year olds, whom just can't grow up yet. I recognize that the game conveys it as 'Ooh, this is what other games do, i hate that!'. But then they do it. Gameplay is exactly like Far Cry 3, only with reload animations that give a nice coffee time. The only okay one is the shotgun, as shotguns tend to take that long in most games, but the SMG is stupidly slower than it should've been.

Graphics. I wouldn't know if they're good or bad, as they're all red. The gamma is horribad.

All in all, if you're a 14 year old, go for it. Otherwise, play something worth while at the same price range, such as CS:GO, Don't Starve, Skyrim, KSP, L4D2, etc.

Then this which really is only cashing in on the Farcry brand and ruining it in my opinion. If they had called this something else and not ruined the farcry brand, it might have been a different story. But this is nothing more than a game that says, how little effort can we put into a game and rake in the money.

With a few months more work and a name franchise of its own this game would have been huge, it would have been like what Rockstar did with GTA IV engine and made Red Dead redemption. The didn't take GTA IV and call it GTA IV Cowboy just to cash in on the brand.

The cut scenes are aweful, thank god you can skip them, the training sequence, painful. The attempt at humor is bad, intentionally bad that we shouldn't care, but its just mindless dribble. The efforts to implement 2D graphic cut scenes that arent from 2007, more like 1987 just ruin the beautiful engine that lies beneath.

This coupled with seriously graphical glitches that lots of people are having with shadows, a game that constantly has 50 missing files when verified in steam and the extremely painful first set of missions where you have to protect some idiot who likes to die by running into fire, all while not being able to save at any point until you pass this hell makes me hate this game.

Perhaps once the graphical glitch has been addressed and they add an option to auto skip all the cut scenes and they change the name, this game might get a score around 5. This does not compare to Farcry 3 and shouldn't be given a score like it does, it's about 1/10 the effort that went into that game and deserves a score as such.

The game may or may not be good, clearly I was willing to bet 15 bucks it was good. However customer support is as much a part of a piece of software's attributes as its graphics/level design/etc, and if I created a piece of software with graphics/level design/etc that were as bad as the customer service I recieved, then I would expect a 0/10 rating from reviewers. Like wandering through a theme park dedicated to the excess of 80s blockbuster entertainment, Blood Dragon takes Far Cry’s proven gameplay formula and adds humour, a new coat of paint and a script free from qualms of narrative dissonance.
