Open world gameplay at it's finest. I had loads of fun just exploring the vast Capitol Wasteland rich with countless interesting set locations as well as random events/encounters. For the vast "emptiness" of the wasteland, I never felt bored once. You can even essentially choose to not play the story at all and still have loads of fun. Definitely worth buying.

If you like either FPS or RPG, buy this game, you'll won't regret it!

No, you don't need to have played the first two titles to appreciate this one.

Though this is an FPS/3rd person adventure, do not come in expecting it to be CoD/BF with a gripping storyline. It's far deeper than that.

This game stole my childhood. Bethesda crafted what is, in my opinion, the best RRG ever made. Although not perfect, it has some issues, the game's story, gameplay, side missions, characters, setting, DLC, dark humor, and exploration are incredible and blend in to make a wonderful journey in an otherwise dangerous and bleak world. It is a masterpiece without equal.

Although its follow up game F:NV was an excellent game, it had less story telling, a smaller world and invisible walls that really took you out the experience. It had good potential and the name to back it up but would have gotten a lot lower rating if not for the elements introduced in fallout 3 by Bethesda. You need to actually expirience this game in order to truly and fully appreciate Fallout 3's story. Three issues I have with the game. Number one, the game will not work properly on Windows 7 or above. Now this CAN BE FIXED. If you cannot figure it out, message me because I want you to enjoy this game. Number two, the visuals are not impressive. This was to be expected with a huge open world RPG such as this. Like most other games, you can modify this game. Taking the visuals to a whole 'nother level. It rivals SKYRIM and BIOSHOCK INFINITE. That said, you need a beefy graphics card to handle the visual mods. With advanced shaders, blue skies and better looking textures, this game looks phenomenal. I don't enjoy the fact that you have to modify the game to make it prettier, but what has to be done must be done. Having siad that, the game isn't unbearable vanilla. I said the visuals are not impressive, not that they are bad. Number three, Fallout has a reputation for being one of the BUGGIEST PIECES OF LOVELY **** It isn't as bad as DayZ but the fact that the two can even be compared is saddening to me. Fortunately, most common and random bugs disappear when playing on pc. They occasionally occur and most are easy fixes. Most. Crashing is eliminated with a 4gb patch and stuttering is solved with a simple mod. At long last you can enjoy your childhood once more at 60fps (good graphics card) and no crashing as it did on console. I rate 10/10 vanilla on PC, 9/10 on console and with mods 11/10. I would recommend this game a million times if I could. Expand

The leveling system is nice, choosing some perks depending on where you place your points. You can make your character in a lot of different ways. The graphics, always thinking back on 2008, are very good (not the better of their epoca, but very good given the immense world it places around the player).

If there's anything bad of the game, it's all the bugs you may encounter playing it. There're plenty of bugs on the game, some of them very funny, others quite disappointing as they limite your progression. But, given the opportunity to play this jewel on a PC, with the console enabled you should get rid of all of them.

Another good thing i would like to speak about is the reborn of this saga. Fallout 3 was a risky production, reviving a saga and trying to bring it back, with a complete new feature, new type of game, but trying to maintain the good aspects of the classical games; interesting story, a complete devastated world, where the last remnants of humanity are placed against a wall and punched one time and another in the jab. In this world, the player may decide the fate of humanity; give it a try or send everything away and be completely naive.

This is why i decided to give the game the maximun score. It is a reborn of a saga, giving a very interesting story to tell, a lot of side-quests, a vast world full of things to be discovered. The bad thing are the bugs, but as i can't put a 9.5 i decided to give it a 10.

The map was enormous, choices were everywhere and the mass amount of junk you could pick up was perfect for that one spot in my Tenpenny tower that was starting to get a little lonely.

I played it non-stop, all day every day on my ps3 for longer than I can remember. I probably had about a hundred hours in my first week on it, it is just so gripping.

Once I completed the main quest I had thought about backtracking and completing all the side quests I had once neglected, but I didn't. Instead, I restarted from the very start, created a whole new character and finished every single mission I found in bliss.

I have lost count of how many times I have replayed Fallout 3. There are so many different options and dialogue choices I could never resist the urge to play it.

Only recently I added mods to the game to add some graphical enhances on top of many new quests and new items and played through its entirety once more. I enjoyed every single moment of it.

On Fallout 3, you have many different skills to level up. You can choose to go into sneaking, pickpocketing, lockpicking, speech, unarmed, big guns, explosives, barter and many other skills.

On top of skills to learn there are 58 regular perks, 5 special perks and 7 quest perks in the normal game. More can be added through certain mods and DLC but there is really no need as the vanilla amount is already very high.

On top of skills, you have a Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting (VAT) installed in your pipboy (a device you wear on your arm to access menus) which brings time to a halt and allows you to target your enemies and have a chance to shoot their limbs, so long as your confident with the percentage to hit them that is.

Honestly, if you have not played this game yet you are truly missing out on an amazing game.

Sure, its graphics have aged and there may be bugs (It's a Bethesda game after all) but graphics and bugs are easily fixed with a mod or two.

You literally start your adventure from the womb, learning the controls of the game as you navigate around as an infant. Typical for RPGs, you'll allocate points into base attributes: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck (S.P.E.C.I.A.L). The game fast forwards you to pre-adolescence where Dad teaches you how to use a gun on your birthday. The whole thing plays like a first-person shooter, with several dialogue choices to pick from when you talk to other characters. Your character is YOU, and looks like you want him/her to.

After the "tutorial" is through, you walk out of the "vault" you grew up in, into the radioactive, post-apocalyptic world of Fallout. Your quest is to find out what happened to your father, who has gone missing. If that doesn't sound open-ended enough, it's important to note that you can literally do ANYTHING at this point. Feel free to head off in any direction and start your new life as a Wastelander.

Whatever you choose to do, you will be rewarded. Along your journey you will find many interesting guns and weapons, and pieces of clothing and armor to wear which will change your appearance. There are a ton of weapons to collect in this game, and you can even create your own from schematics you will come across, provided you've collected the right materials. There are rifles, all sorts of explosives, and even a gun that shoots garbage at enemies! As you level up, you'll be able to improve skills such as Lockpicking, Speech, and Science, which will allow you to more easily unlock doors, persuade others, and hack computer terminals, respectively.

The combat initially seems like nothing special, at least unless you use V.A.T.S, a combat mode that essentially pauses the combat (it really slows things down to an imperceptible crawl) and lets you target limbs, each with a different probability to hit. This basically allows you to treat firefights as turn-based combat, which is cool from an RPG standpoint, and awesome when you realize how exciting it is when a Super Mutant's head flies off from the blast of a shotgun. Regardless, the combat is fast, exciting, and punishing.

The enemies in Fallout 3 are of the creepy, mutated kind, for the most part. They make weird noises and the ones that can talk will sometimes curse at you. This is definitely not a "family" game, the whole thing has a very bleak, edgy feeling to it. It all adds to the atmosphere, however.

The Capital Wasteland is sprawling and alive. As you travel throughout it, you will find groups of people, settlements, lone wanderers, etc. that all have stories to tell and quests for you to complete. This all makes for very good plot and immersion, and most of it is done fantastically. The dialogue choices are very interesting and allow you to "react" in character. A high Speech skill will allow you to convince stubborn characters to do things they would otherwise be resistant to. While the environment of the wasteland is not "pretty" in the classical sense, the soda machines, propaganda posters, and lots of other little touches make it real and fascinating.

Who you are in Fallout 3 is your choice. You can choose to steal, murder the innocent (I believe you can kill almost EVERYONE in this game), and do "evil" things, which could be objectively advantageous, but will reduce your Karma. Likewise, good deeds increase your Karma. If you have low Karma, unsavory characters will take more of an interest in you, and honest characters will dislike you. This adds to the immersion and excitement of the game, especially when playing "evil", as the guilt will start to sink in rather quickly. I like to roleplay a certain temperament and act accordingly. The choice is yours.

If aimlessly wandering around and amassing wealth and weaponry isn't satisfying enough (though it really is), the main storyline in Fallout 3 is phenomenal. There are many exciting missions and moments that will not leave your memory, and will shake and challenge you to your emotional core. Very interesting story, big map not too full with enemies but also not too empty *cough NEW VEGAS *cough
On the downside are definitely a lack of weapons, also the sound that the chinese rifle makes tends to get annoying after a while and from my 3 playthroughs that I had, some quests got bugged here and there but no biggie. DLCs are just amazing, especially Mothership Zeta.

What do you get when you combine the storytelling and irreverence of Fallout 2 with the jaw-dropping 3D realism of The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion? Not this! But that's okay! It's still one of my top ten games of all time. (And there are only about thirty games in my top ten!)

One of my personal favorite games! The story is deep and well whiten, and the characters have great personality. A few bugs get annoying, but nothing to bad. The graphics still look great to this day. I love the perk system! I suggest getting it on Xbox one via backwards compatibility. The best game in the fallout franchise for sure.

Once all the bugs were fixed and the DLCs came out for the game of the year edition it is a fantastic game with a great story. I think it is the best fallout. It has choices that are consequential and the fact the aiming system isn't perfect adds to the combat. It makes it more of an rpg not being able to rely on aiming so you have to use VATS. Along with New Vegas this is my favorite Fallout.

Есть V.A.T.S. V.A.T.S.
Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition
The Last of Us, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, BioShock.

it really cast itself as a new genre called Atompunk, where nuclear energy is prominent and the semi-conductor (silicon-transistor) hasn't been invented until the near end of the modern world.

I would like to tell you the cons of the game but i don't have a single one - for me it is a perfect game and you have to be a douchebag or something to ask for more. Throughout the whole game you can feel that the game was made with love and soul. It is not even right to call Fallout 3 "a game"...it is a world. The fact it was released in 2008 perplexes me because the game feels like a pinnacle of gaming industry for me (please consider the fact I am quite new to the whole video games thing). This game is truly amazing. It’s so fun to explore and doing missions is so addictive and fun. The game presents challenges that are fun to adapt to. These challenges are not frustrating because it all depends on how you play the game (how much ammo you waste, what type of build you want, and who you ally with). Even in 2021, this game ages perfectly and is just a fun time.

It seems that some people bought F3 having already decided it was a steaming pile. Anything would be considered a steaming pile if approached in this way. F2 was considered a steaming pile by many players of F1 because they approached it in this way. Think about that before venting your nerd rage.

Overall amazing game...really a work of art. The only things I found wrong was: 1. the game crashed on numerous occasions (looked up online and got a codec fix) 2. The main story is EXTREMELY short. The first time I played I went straight through the story...got about 12 hours of gameplay. I started the game over and did the sidequests...I'm still playing and I've gotten 33 hours.

The game is (sorry but only a superlative will do) brilliant. I would definitely say it was the best RPG of 2008, in-fact quite possibly one of the finest RPGs of all time. I shit you not. I took away one point as I believe it takes some perseverance to truly appreciate it; I did not enjoy it immediately, and many others I have spoken to have said initially they found it hard to get into. I took away one point as I believe it takes some perseverance to truly appreciate it; I did not enjoy it immediately, and many others I have spoken to have said initially they found it hard to get into. But (and I know I'm using all the clichés in the book) it grows on you. Grows like a mutated third arm following some serious radiation sickness. Really, buy this game. Buy it even if you didn't like Oblivion, a game to which it owes a great deal, yet Fallout 3 is an entirely different beast, and I mean this in the best way possible. In fact, I urge you to buy it even if you don't like RPGs or FPSs: You WILL get hooked. Hooked on psycho, jet, buffout. I mean, it allows you to play at your own pace, yet it constantly gives you something to strive for. I haven't had a dull moment within the game were I really couldn't be bothered to do anything. When it comes to the time that you want to replay it, you should set yourself personal challenges; I decided with one character I was going to wear the tunnel snake jacket armoured with a baseball bat. And I felt damn cool. Especially whilst you bat some innocent NPC to death, who doesn't really deserve it, but you just like to admire the brutality in V.A.T.S slow-mo, with a host of different camera angles. Really, I cannot fault the gameplay, the atmosphere, the story, the graphics, nothing, aside from a few bugs/glitches here and there, but that's all due to the complexity and depth of the game. So, to re-iterate; buy it. Expand

I do admit that the Super Mutants should be a bit tougher than they are, but they're not easy especially if you run into a whole patrol. To each their own I guess. As a huge fan of Fallout and Fallout 2, I really give this a major thumbs up. Expand

This is one of the best pc games i have played in a while.Just a great game all together.I would have gave this game a 10 but there are two things i dont like about this game. 1.How you have to go through all these metro tunnels to get to places and 2. The ending.I was very disapointed with the ending , i thought you could keep playing and it just roll sthe cutscene and goes back to the main menu.

This game is truly quite miraculous and here's why: It combines in a wonderful way features of FPS and RPG. The playing area is large and flexible, you'll find that restrictions are very few in number. The weapon/item arsenal is very large and what's more, you can make your own weapons or other stuff. The fact that the game is situated to happen in Washington DC area (and outside) adds to the excitement. This together with the Cold War-type of background story cooks up an amazing game atmosphere. I could go on for pages, enough spoiling though: the goodies are all there for you to find. Bad sides? That's a tough call. If I was forced to dig out one, that would be the fact that the main story is so short. Compared to how large the area is and how much there is to explore and try out, the main storyline seems inadequate. This combined with the fact that once you finish the final objective the game ends is disappointing. Nonetheless the game is wonderful and if you're not in a rush and like scouting around, you'll find tons of stuff to do and even if you only did the main story line there will be hours after hours of gaming to do. I have no regrets of making this purchase even if it cost me $30 :) Expand

Even the sophisticated AI routines of the NPCs make them look alive and real. What more could you ask from a game? Nothing is my answer. I thank and bow to Bethesda team for this gorgeous game that will enter the videogame history for sure. Now come with me into the Wastelands. Expand

Bethesda did it's best to take this classic franchise and slap it on their Oblivion engine, but a few elements did fall through the cracks. And while it is a bit buggy, it's still a valiant effort. And while I'm an old skool bitter gamer, enough of the original managed to get translated into this title that I find myself forgiving its many sins. And while it is a bit buggy, it's still a valiant effort. And while I'm an old skool bitter gamer, enough of the original managed to get translated into this title that I find myself forgiving its many sins. There's a lot to hate (mono-chromatic environments, weak character models/ animations, Oblivion similarities, etc.), but there's a lot more to love. The notorious character progression system from Oblivion is replaced by the system that the Fallout is loved for. Item degradation and repairing them makes for a tough challenge in the wasteland. However, there's enough content that those who are perceptive and resourceful will be just fine. Distributing the right skill points and perks at the right time in line with your own play style will result in a very rewarding experience. This is a first person RPG and hardly a shooter. Shooter purists expecting one will be disappointed. However, the VATS / game play pause / targeting feature does a good job of making up for this. If you're looking for an exact translation of the Fallout franchise, this is as close as you'll find. My feeling is that the magic that came from Black Isle Studios is very difficult to duplicate. Take my feedback with a grain of salt, but I'm I remember the original F1, F2, and Fallout Tactics... this title isn't perfect, but I find myself loving it anyway. With a few patches, it should be much improved. Expand

Stable it ain't. I experienced frequent crashes under Vista until I started doing a clean boot before playing. And it still crashes occasionally. Fortunately the auto-save function fires every time you change location. The game is roughly comparable to Mass Effect in terms of play but with ten times as much stuff to do and better ambiance. I REALLY want to give this game 10 as I'm pretty sure that it's the best that I have ever played (X-Com being the other contender)! I dont think I'm giving much away when I say that hearing the radio presenter talk about what is going on in the world ... and then hearing him report something that you just did is awesome. Even more impressive was that he died (well, I killed him), and then a cleaner was left to try and take his place. Awesome little touch! However ... The game does crash and I actually created a condition that meant that it would always crash. However, given how utterly breathtaking the rest of the game is I can forgive it entirely. Also, anyone complaining about WFGL should just shut up. I'm guessing your using a pirated copy ... Expand

just to stay home and play a game, in my book they have found a great game. In a day and time when too many games, and especially shooters, can only offer one 10 or 12 hours of unrepetitive game play, Fallout's almost unlimited sandbox play is a lot gaming bang for the buck.

Tons of stuff to find and explore, lots of situations to deal with. The game's problems are significant, though, and this is where rating it is difficult. The graphics are pretty good on the highest settings, but I've noticed that it slows down computers (sometimes even the consoles) more than it ever should. A machine that runs Far Cry 2 flawlessly will still have trouble with F3 from time to time. Lots of oversights; floating objects/debris piles/buildings/etc. Many bugs and glitches that are potentially game-breaking. Character animations needed some work, and I did not like the built-in inaccuracy of the weapons. The fact that I still give it a 9 out of 10 shows that I think the gameplay is solid, and the game, at its core, is a great one. Expand

Despite the vastness of the landscape the surroundings still has a handcrafted touch - the world is full of small details, hidden caches and interesting locations to discover. Allright. Fallout 3 is a great game. You can use hours and hours running around in the wastelands and killing all sord of weird monsters and doing some Quest. But you will get tirred of this game when you have completed it. GREAT story line. I'll say this is a must buy. expect 40 hours of fun and dont buy any expansions (they suck too expensive and almost nothing new) I'll say Allright. Fallout 3 is a great game. I love it. I feel like I am wandering a post apocalyptic world. It is great. Oodles of atmosphere and just all around great game. However, I find the UI annoying. why press e, x, or tab to get out of different dialogs? Why not use a single key for all? Why do I have to scroll down to select "I have finished talking" why can't I just press escape of x or whatever?

You have to explore, pick the character traits that best suit your style of play, you have to build up your character's weapons and armour, and there is a real story with lots of real characters. So to me it's the best of both worlds. RPG's have depth but poor combat, and FPS's have good combat but are shallow. This game has the best of both worlds with great combat and lots of depth. A fantastic RPG. While the plot is a bit on the short side, any user with common sense and a sense of adventure will be able to happily occupy plenty of time with all the side quests and places to explore. Not to mention fooling around with reacting to the quests in different ways. Great world, good continuation to the Fallout series, but it's certainly not the originals.
