    This game was an awesome surprise. I was not expecting it to be that good after all those years. One of my favourite RPGs for sure. I love the atmosphere of the wasteland. The characters and various monsters are great. Eery time I was exploring the vast, empty land, I was finding something super interesting and worth the time to visit and look a little bit closer.     Really Good One of The Best RPG's of All Time. It's An Open World Even Though In 2018 It's Graphics Are Some What Outdated It's World Is Big It's Story Is Pretty Good. I Like The Side Quests And Even Though The World Could Maybe Just Be A Little Bigger It's A Great Game.

    i have not been let down by any of Bethesda's games. They are all masterpiece's, that will probably never be forgotten, this also goes for Fallout 3. I played this first when on my ps3 when i was about 11 or 12. I am now 16 and have completed the game once again on the pc. And the game is still as great as i remember it, i would suggest this amazing Post-Apocalyptic RPG to anyone who lovesi have not been let down by any of Bethesda's games. They are all masterpiece's, that will probably never be forgotten, this also goes for Fallout 3. I played this first when on my ps3 when i was about 11 or 12.     This is a classic game. Now that is is approaching ten years old, I can say that it is still worth playing today. That being said, it doesn't have the best animations, gunplay, or textures, so mods are definitely encouraged. That being said, the side quests and a large map that doesn't just siphon you towards certain areas (I'm looking at you New Vegas, still love you though) are veryThis is a classic game.     This game is bugged like hell and it actually killed one of my hdd back in 2009. But I would recommend it because it somehow beat the trend and in my POV successfully transformed with the technology advancement. The mod community is huge and after you beat it once you can always mod it for better gaming experience. It never gets old.

    I think this game is as good as the previous two but better by having a much larger world and details for exploration. People thinks that you have just a few locations with beings to interact with but this is what makes it real. I won't expect to have packs and packs after such a tragedy on top of the evil humanity without law boundaries. The main story line is too short that's true, but i really have fun in exploring all those abandon buildings with no related quests. That's the point that you have to pay attention to the NPC in order to get to without a game guide. You could learn much better by checking out the fan wiki and find out that almost all of those are a reference. I would say after all these years it worth you of that 20 bucks if you found it in a bargain bin.

    Edit: You can turn the game into a TPS or FPS anytime you want, you can always shoot by using VATS. That's what make me liked the game more and more since I hate shooter.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The First Fallout game made by Bethesda.
    As a first step into the Franchise, I gotta say its a decent start.
    The biggest difference between the first Fallout games and 3 is that this game is a shooter, but you're character's ability with weapons depends on you're skills with the many types of weapons that were present in the past games. This includes small guns, big guns, energy weapons, explosives, unarmed and melee weapons. The better the skill, the better you can use this weapon as your damage and accuracy goes up. However, the gun play has definitely aged as it is very clunky and it can be annoying to see you're weapon constantly spread out shots. But, the game uses V.A.T.S like the previous games where you can use it to quickly pot shot at certain points of the enemy you choose to die. This was the same for the past Fallout games as well.
    As an RPG, you're decisions will effect the outside world and everyone's opinion of you. You're character will engage in dialogue a lot as they make decisions, speech checks and even interesting dialogue options based on certain perks you have. Ah yes, there are other skills as such barter, science and more that allow you to do certain actions with certain things.
    However, I cannot recommend this game to new players due to it's clunky gameplay and "meh" gun play. But if you wanna take look into the Fallout games, this is a decent start.

    I've always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Fallout 3. At first, I disliked the game for its buggy and clunky gameplay. After giving the game a chance I enjoyed it, but after spoiling myself with the greatness of New Vegas, I came back not liking Fallout 3 as much. I modded it on PC to my liking and enjoyed it for a while until it started repeatedly crashing. Despite my back andI've always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with Fallout 3. At first, I disliked the game for its buggy and clunky gameplay. After giving the game a chance I enjoyed it, but after spoiling myself with the greatness of New Vegas, I came back not liking Fallout 3 as much. I modded it on PC to my liking and enjoyed it for a while until it started repeatedly crashing. Despite my back and forth feelings for this game, I believe the overall feeling is positive. Keep in mind this review is based more on personal enjoyment rather complete objectivity, which is only fair because I gave New Vegas a 10.

    First of all, as someone who was introduced to the Fallout series through this game, I was never familiar with the previous installments until much later, which is why I believe I didn't like the game for a while. The game ditches a lot of the things that make the original two games so great. It leaves out a lot of the true RPG elements. Sure you can choose what to say, you can be good or evil, you can level up and choose perks, but you never feel like you really are your character. Fallout 1 and New Vegas do a fantastic job at making your character feel realistic and relatable which is why your actions and choices are important. You feel no connection to The Lone Wanderer. Why do I want to find my Dad? He's in the game for like 20-30 minutes, the only connection I have to him is that he's voiced by Liam Neeson.

    The world of Fallout 3 is interesting on the surface, with towns full of interesting characters and long questlines, but behind this is a landfill of worthless locations with nothing of interest. Half of these locations exist only to give extra Super Mutant, Raider and Enclave camps to clear out and loot. Going out of my way to explore all of these locations showed me that each uninteresting location has the same exact formula. Kill everyone inside that is a threat. Look around and loot everything that has any worth. There is no lore. There is nothing that adds depth to the world. It's all there for you to shoot and loot.

    Speaking of shooting, the shooting mechanics in this game are pretty bad. You pretty much need VATS in order to actually be able to shoot anything. Not to mention the lack of Iron Sights. Having to aim with the inaccurate crosshairs that barely even show where your bullet is gonna go. Whats even worse is that VATS is immersion breaking and unattractive. If you're going to turn a turn-based RPG game into a modern FPS then at least to do the FPS part right!

    Oh man not to mention how TERRIBLE the optimization of this game is. First of all, its a game of roulette if the game even launches when you buy it if you play on anything later than WINDOWS XP until you go into the code of the game and fix TWO LINES. Even then the game will constantly crash until you install Third-Party Mods to fix the game. Even AFTER you fix the game with mods, it still crashes after 5-10 minutes of playing. WHAT THE ****

    While I know I've been trash talking Fallout 3 this whole review, there is something to love about it. The characters are fantastic (even if half of them are done by the same 20 voice actors) and each questline is interesting and unique. There are things to enjoy in Fallout 3, for me it's finding small details that require me to use my own imagination to fill in gaps (even though that's not really something to credit to the developers).

    Would I recommend Fallout 3? No. The game is buggy, broken and uninspired. Despite me enjoying some of it, I would recommend Fallout: New Vegas or the first two fallout games    … Expand

    Fallout 3 nailed the atmosphere of the series and did really good job at transfering Fallout universe to 3D environment. Exploring Vaults and settlements in capital Wasteland is a blast.
    But the main story, dialogues and combat are very weak.

    This game is one of the Top 15 RPG of all-time. With the great Mods available for it and just the massiveness and content in this game, it will provide literally 100's of hours of enjoyment.

Typical for RPGs, you'll allocate points into base attributes: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck (S.P.E.C.I.A.L). The game fast    Fallout 3 is one of the most immersive, gut-wrenching, and rewarding RPGs of all time. Period.

    You literally start your adventure from the womb, learning the controls of the game as you navigate around as an infant. Typical for RPGs, you'll allocate points into base attributes: Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck (S.P.E.C.I.A.L). The game fast forwards you to pre-adolescence where Dad teaches you how to use a gun on your birthday. The whole thing plays like a first-person shooter, with several dialogue choices to pick from when you talk to other characters. Your character is YOU, and looks like you want him/her to.

    After the "tutorial" is through, you walk out of the "vault" you grew up in, into the radioactive, post-apocalyptic world of Fallout. Your quest is to find out what happened to your father, who has gone missing. If that doesn't sound open-ended enough, it's important to note that you can literally do ANYTHING at this point. Feel free to head off in any direction and start your new life as a Wastelander.

    Whatever you choose to do, you will be rewarded. Along your journey you will find many interesting guns and weapons, and pieces of clothing and armor to wear which will change your appearance. There are a ton of weapons to collect in this game, and you can even create your own from schematics you will come across, provided you've collected the right materials. There are rifles, all sorts of explosives, and even a gun that shoots garbage at enemies! As you level up, you'll be able to improve skills such as Lockpicking, Speech, and Science, which will allow you to more easily unlock doors, persuade others, and hack computer terminals, respectively.

    The combat initially seems like nothing special, at least unless you use V.A.T.S, a combat mode that essentially pauses the combat (it really slows things down to an imperceptible crawl) and lets you target limbs, each with a different probability to hit. This basically allows you to treat firefights as turn-based combat, which is cool from an RPG standpoint, and awesome when you realize how exciting it is when a Super Mutant's head flies off from the blast of a shotgun. Regardless, the combat is fast, exciting, and punishing.

    The enemies in Fallout 3 are of the creepy, mutated kind, for the most part. They make weird noises and the ones that can talk will sometimes curse at you. This is definitely not a "family" game, the whole thing has a very bleak, edgy feeling to it. It all adds to the atmosphere, however.

    The Capital Wasteland is sprawling and alive. As you travel throughout it, you will find groups of people, settlements, lone wanderers, etc. that all have stories to tell and quests for you to complete. This all makes for very good plot and immersion, and most of it is done fantastically. The dialogue choices are very interesting and allow you to "react" in character. A high Speech skill will allow you to convince stubborn characters to do things they would otherwise be resistant to. While the environment of the wasteland is not "pretty" in the classical sense, the soda machines, propaganda posters, and lots of other little touches make it real and fascinating.

    Who you are in Fallout 3 is your choice. You can choose to steal, murder the innocent (I believe you can kill almost EVERYONE in this game), and do "evil" things, which could be objectively advantageous, but will reduce your Karma. Likewise, good deeds increase your Karma. If you have low Karma, unsavory characters will take more of an interest in you, and honest characters will dislike you. This adds to the immersion and excitement of the game, especially when playing "evil", as the guilt will start to sink in rather quickly. I like to roleplay a certain temperament and act accordingly. The choice is yours.

    If aimlessly wandering around and amassing wealth and weaponry isn't satisfying enough (though it really is), the main storyline in Fallout 3 is phenomenal. There are many exciting missions and moments that will not leave your memory, and will shake and challenge you to your emotional core. When it's over, it's very likely that you will have only explored a fraction of what the game has to offer. Should you choose to start over, you owe it to yourself to make different choices and see how the game unfolds. It may surprise you; as much as the Capital Wasteland can change you, you can change the Capital Wasteland.    … Expand

    I first played the game sometime in 2010 and It was love at first sight. The map was enormous, choices were everywhere and the mass amount of junk you could pick up was perfect for that one spot in my Tenpenny tower that was starting to get a little lonely. I played    Fallout 3, you're SPECIAL....
    For a game that came out in 2008, it still brings me much enjoyment to this very day.
    I first played the game sometime in 2010 and It was love at first sight.

    The map was enormous, choices were everywhere and the mass amount of junk you could pick up was perfect for that one spot in my Tenpenny tower that was starting to get a little lonely.

    I played it non-stop, all day every day on my ps3 for longer than I can remember. I probably had about a hundred hours in my first week on it, it is just so gripping.

    Once I completed the main quest I had thought about backtracking and completing all the side quests I had once neglected, but I didn't. Instead, I restarted from the very start, created a whole new character and finished every single mission I found in bliss.

    I have lost count of how many times I have replayed Fallout 3. There are so many different options and dialogue choices I could never resist the urge to play it.

    Only recently I added mods to the game to add some graphical enhances on top of many new quests and new items and played through its entirety once more. I enjoyed every single moment of it.

    On Fallout 3, you have many different skills to level up. You can choose to go into sneaking, pickpocketing, lockpicking, speech, unarmed, big guns, explosives, barter and many other skills.

    On top of skills to learn there are 58 regular perks, 5 special perks and 7 quest perks in the normal game. More can be added through certain mods and DLC but there is really no need as the vanilla amount is already very high.

    On top of skills, you have a Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting (VAT) installed in your pipboy (a device you wear on your arm to access menus) which brings time to a halt and allows you to target your enemies and have a chance to shoot their limbs, so long as your confident with the percentage to hit them that is.

    Honestly, if you have not played this game yet you are truly missing out on an amazing game.

    Sure, its graphics have aged and there may be bugs (It's a Bethesda game after all) but graphics and bugs are easily fixed with a mod or two.    … Expand

Сколько раз я брался его пройти и никогда не могу осилить его до конца. Скучнейшая, примитивная история, скучные квесты убей/принеси, скудный игровой мир, нпц с этой дурацкой системой автолевелинга. мочишь всех супермутантов на изи уже на первых уровнях. НетПрежде всего хочу сказать, что нью вегасу я поставил 10 и это моя одна из самых любмиых игр. А вот фоллаут 3 я просто не переношу. Сколько раз я брался его пройти и никогда не могу осилить его до конца.     Melee and unarmed attacks are completely useless. This is because Fallout 3 armor seems to reduce damage as a percentage rather than reducing damage by a set amount. Suppose your armor in Fallout 3 reduces damage by 30%. How many bullets do you eat before you land a single melee hit on an enemy? That adds up. You take massive damage while closing the gap.

    That damage reduction system works in both directions. In Fallout New Vegas, there are a lot of enemies you can't kill within the first hours of the game. Giant radscorpions in New Vegas have a very high damage threshold, so most guns don't do any damage. Attacking them requires a bit of strategy, and you need to think about which gun you are using. High damage with low fire rate is better than low damage at a high fire rate, and shotgun slugs are very effective while shotgun shot is useless. Fallout 3 is nothing like that. Every enemy in the game can be killed with any weapon in the game. It might take a lot of bullets, but you certainly can kill a Deathclaw in Fallout 3 using the SMG.

    Grenades are hilariously overpowered in Fallout 3. The VATS aiming thing stays in slow motion until the grenade explodes, and I think you are invincible during VATS. This means you can go nuts and grenade kill everything. The VATS aiming will land the grenade close enough, the enemy can't run away because it's slow motion, and they can't kill you during that time. Some would say this is a positive for Fallout 3 because it gives an easy "i win" button to any problem. Fallout New Vegas did away with all of that. Grenades in New Vegas will aim like the grenades in Fallout 3, but the slow motion ends when the grenade lands, and you can be killed during that time.

    I believe Fallout 3 also has a lack of gun options. The first rifle you get is the hunting rifle. It's pretty good, but it doesn't scale well. It has a low fire rate and low damage, so it becomes useless at higher levels. The next long range gun is the sniper rifle. The sniper rifle is a great gun, but it's rare and it breaks very quickly. The game basically forces you to use Chinese assault rifles at the higher levels. How did Fallout New Vegas differ? It has a .357 rifle, a .44 rifle a .45-70 rifle, a 5.56 rifle, a .50 rifle, and each gun has a variety of ammunition types (a .357 can fire .38 special). New Vegas did it right. You are never forced to use one or two guns. There are so many options.

    Is Fallout 3 a good game? Yes it is, but I can't play it anymore because I know that Fallout New Vegas is so much better in every possible way.    … Expand

    The graphics are horrible, even for the time. I can't recall seeing something that wasn't grey in the entire game.

    In contrast to everything looking grey, all choices are pure black and white. They took a **** all over the worldbuilding of the first games, and now the Brotherhood of Steel are the hollywood good guys while the Enclave are the hollywood bad guys. Every choice in the game is either 1. I'm a hollywood bad guy 2. I'm a moustache twirling villain 3. I'll do it for money 3. [Intelligence check to even further explain the plot in case you have a mental disorder]. None of the choices matter at all, either. I won't go into spoilers, but the game even at the end explicitly prevents you from making a choice that has no downsides for absolutely no reason other than **** you for trying to get out of our cinematic storytelling and make your own path"

    Megaton for example, one of the earliest quests: 1. I'm gonna save the town 2. I'm gonna nuke the town for no apparent reason 3. No involvement. And that's not to mention that it makes absolutely no sense for them to have built a town around an active nuke.

    I could talk forever about the plot, but suffice it to say that I think they stole a 12 year old's fanfiction.

    They shifted the game to a first person shooter, because middle schoolers don't like isometric RPGs, but they kept in VATS to try to keep a semblance of turn based combat where it doesn't belong.

    The shooting mechanics are simply not well implemented and not fun. There are no iron sights, and gunplay is based off of stats, which of course doesn't work well.

    They introduce difficulty by giving enemies a lot of health and severely restricting your healing items, ammo, and weapons. The way durability and combat works generally is this: It takes 5 shots from a hunting rifle to kill a super mutant. I have 100 bullets and there are around 30 super mutants here, all better armed and more dangerous than I am. I shoot my hunting rifle 8 times and kill a super mutant, missing 3 shots due to the ****ty aiming. Now my gun is broken and I need to go find 3 more hunting rifles to make it usable again. Note that I say usable, because not a single weapon in the game feels truly strong.

    Another obvious change they made to dumb down the game, the introduction of quest markers. Gone are the days of paying attention, reading dialogue, and figuring things out and finding your own way. Now you just choose your generic good or bad guy options, and mindlessly follow quest markers until you get to go shoot more enemies and break all your weapons.

    All effort in the game clearly went towards sheer amount of content, because literally everything else in the entire game is bad in every way. I cannot think of a single redeeming quality for this game. **** Bethesda for making this absolute joke of a game, and destroying the Fallout series.    … Expand

This is just a shooter, "glorified" with a terrible story, awkward voice acting, AND you have to buy a dlc to continue playing after you finished the main story. Not to mention, the game is really easy due to the fact that the player could just rush the story. Also, in the last mission, you can't even really kill anybody, and you actively have to hunt enemies so maybe you can get the kill. The only reason it's even playable is the atmosphere of a post apocalyptic DC, and wandering in the totally unbalanced wastes.     This is definitely one of the greatest games of all time. I started playing it a couple years ago and at first was not sure if I liked it, but after a few hours I was completely hooked. This is way more than just a game, it's really a great new world. The graphics, the stories, the characters, the gameplay are brilliant.     A free RPG game, inmense world, full of quests, a very nice plot, and a lot of action. The V.A.T.S system is very nice, and it may save you from a bad situation. The leveling system is nice, choosing some perks depending on where you place your points. You can make your character in a lot of different ways. The    One game we all should have played. That's how i would define Fallout 3.

There're plenty of bugs on the game, some of them very funny, others quite disappointing as they limite your progression. But, given the opportunity to play this jewel on a PC, with the console enabled you should get rid of all of them.

    Another good thing i would like to speak about is the reborn of this saga. Fallout 3 was a risky production, reviving a saga and trying to bring it back, with a complete new feature, new type of game, but trying to maintain the good aspects of the classical games; interesting story, a complete devastated world, where the last remnants of humanity are placed against a wall and punched one time and another in the jab. In this world, the player may decide the fate of humanity; give it a try or send everything away and be completely naive.

    This is why i decided to give the game the maximun score. It is a reborn of a saga, giving a very interesting story to tell, a lot of side-quests, a vast world full of things to be discovered. The bad thing are the bugs, but as i can't put a 9.5 i decided to give it a 10.    … Expand

    Technically this game doesnt work on Win 7...lol... you need a mod, that users made. This is inexcusable.
    Speaking of mods: there are plenty of them and many are useful, so download them.
    After many hours the game starts to repeat, because many things are just copied and pasted in the world: the houses, the enemies. Level scaling is a key word: Even in the later game you will still fight with RAD Scorpions for example -.-
    Many things are restricted: the story and dialogs are linear, so you will not have many decisions to play a quest. The same goes for your character: The most fun is still a sniper/ shooter character.
    The strong women characters were annoying: 50-55kg woman fighting with a big minigun (hmm 10kg?). They are very unfriendly, masculin. Gender politics, brain washing and so on... easy to see through. As a bad guy I killed many of them for being too rude and vain to me :)
    The idea to listen to radios is fun, but the moderator Three Dogs could be less childish.
    The DLCs are dissappointing: too much shooter with a bad AI, especially Anchorage and Zeta.

    But there are improvements in the game: Graphic with some mods looks great of course.
    In F1 you could choose 1 new perk every 3 levels, in F3 you get an extra every level, which is better in my opinion.
    The main story and the side quests are very well written and motivate to play the game more and more.
    There are many areas just for exploring without any quest and still got a lot of content + stories to tell. This way exploring makes fun.

    Overall a very good game, but not perfect. It has a high fun level, but too many elements are too annoying. 8,5/10    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fallout 3 is the Fifth game in the Fallout Franchise and the first game in the series published by Bethesda. The game runs on the engine used for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and brings the games from a top-down perspective to a third-person/first-person perspective.

    FO 3 departs from the original setting of the West Coast of California and centers itself squarely in the ruins of Post-Apocalyptic Washington, DC. As Bethesda itself is in neighboring Maryland, it's no surprise that the ruined DC looks great. There's a nice atmosphere going, aside from the excessive green tint to everything.

    Your character is a Vault Dweller, raised in Vault 101 by your single father, James. James tries to instill virtues into your character as you grow up, and then when you're 19, he ditches you and escapes the Vault for who knows why. And that begins your quest to catch up with him out in the Wasteland.

    As an RPG, the game is rather primitive. When you have a choice, you tend to only have two - good vs. evil, with a third option far too rare. And even when you make a choice, it generally doesn't affect more of the story, which is a failure of the writing team. Instead, the game relies heavily on combat and action, so having more charismatic or 'intellectual' characters in the Wasteland rarely fits.

    But as an action shooter, it's inconsistent, especially early on. Your ability to hit is based on your 'skill' from the RPG mechanics, so having a low skill those will put you in trouble rather quickly. Many of the areas you have to travel through as part of your quests are set up as linear 'action stages' - some of which deliver a healthy dose of combat, while some miss out on great opportunities. I thought the big climax fight of the main story from the Citadel to the Purifier could have been much more grand if Liberty Prime weren't involved and it was just you, your follower, and a squad of elite Paladins assaulting the enemy forces.

    Ultimately, Fallout 3 doesn't know what it is. It's not a great RPG because it relies on action and shooting. It's not a great shooter because it relies on RPG mechanics and fails to deliver at key moments.

    The result is somewhere in-between shooter and RPG. It offers more choices to a fan of shooters than they usually get, but pigeonholes fans of sandbox RPGs into linear action sequences.    … Expand

    As a huge fan of Fallout 1-2 and also Elder Scrolls series this one of the best thing that could ever happen to me in the gaming world. I remember Fallout 1 was one of the game that really helped me to learn English and I believe Fallout 3 is decent sequel.

    There still are obvious flaws though, including some old classics which I thought had been banned years ago. For instance:

    - The insufferable level cap. Here a record offender: I reached it at about 20% of map exploration. Sure, you need one, since you made the mistake of capping your stats and skills, but what about balancing the progression then ? Oh, right, you can't because...

    - Respawn. I've been hating those for decades. It's one of them games where you have to kill constantly to get a piece of quiet, then redo it every time you pass by the same place. Because repetition is fun ? Nope, because more "content" for cheap. A secondary issue here is that spawns' levels are related to mine. And since I reach the XP cap very early, my fellow humans start dying very early as well. Bye caravans.

    - There is a karma system so, of course, strange things will happen, like moral biases and a karma display on your forehead for everyone to see. My favorite ? Pickpocketing is evil: better kill the mark and loot his body. My least favorite: Tranquility Lane; it's so bad, I heard Buddha is coming back to sue.

    - Two skills use both a threshold and a mini-game. The designer couldn't make up his mind. The lock-pick game is a particularly annoying time waster, probably spitted out by the same sadistic bureaucrat who designed the worst lock-picking of all time in Oblivion.

    - I sometimes resent that I am the only person in the world who needs spare parts to repair my equipment.

    - Not for everybody, but important for low perception players: the RPG is bad at visual clues. Many things happen, and often end, before I even realise. Noticing anything but a Quantum soda is hard, even a corpse I just sniped. I had to replay every scene in the rotunda, as each time the story decided to develop out of my reach. Talking about visuals, the map itself is a disaster, useless inside buildings, clumsy outside with no colours, no filters, and with 1 miserable personal marker.

    Anyway, there are many things that could be improved, but it's still fun the way it is. There is one true disappointment though: in many if not most locations, you have two options and two options only, either do nothing, or kill everyone/destroy the place, directly or indirectly. That's true for the vaults, 2 major towns, villages, every raider camp (raiders aren't even considered humans,) and much, much more !    … Expand

    There's the germ of a great game here, but it's buried under a big smear of flatness

    Look to New Vegas for a much better experience.

With advanced shaders, blue skies and better looking textures, this game looks phenomenal. I don't enjoy the fact that you have to modify the game to make it prettier, but what has to be done must be done. Having siad that, the game isn't unbearable vanilla. I said the visuals are not impressive, not that they are bad. Number three, Fallout has a reputation for being one of the BUGGIEST PIECES OF LOVELY **** It isn't as bad as DayZ but the fact that the two can even be compared is saddening to me. Fortunately, most common and random bugs disappear when playing on pc. They occasionally occur and most are easy fixes. Most. Crashing is eliminated with a 4gb patch and stuttering is solved with a simple mod. At long last you can enjoy your childhood once more at 60fps (good graphics card) and no crashing as it did on console. I rate 10/10 vanilla on PC, 9/10 on console and with mods 11/10.     I got a copy of this game at a Gamestop for less than $20 on the Xbox 360 along with a few other miscellaneous titles. At first, it just sat on my shelf gathering dust, but eventually, after getting frustrated with the disgrace that was Halo Reach, I finally plunked it in not knowing what to expect. What I got was an experience like no other. It was my first time with a western RPG, I gotI got a copy of this game at a Gamestop for less than $20 on the Xbox 360 along with a few other miscellaneous titles. At first, it just sat on my shelf gathering dust, but eventually, after getting frustrated with the disgrace that was Halo Reach, I finally plunked it in not knowing what to expect. What I got was an experience like no other. It was my first time with a western RPG, I got lucky that it was a Fallout game. From The Interesting characters to the wondrous landscapes and not to mention the humor spread throughout this masterpiece, it was enough to make me buy it again on the PC. Even though it was the same story and the graphics were starting to show their age there was still more to explore and more adventures to be had. The added bonus of mod support gives this game even more replayability than it had on its on. Even after playing Fallout New Vegas, even after playing Fallout 4, This is still my favorite Fallout game and my favorite game of all time. Only reason I'm not giving it a ten is because of the immersion breaking bugs that Bethesda is famous for. This was somewhat acceptable back then but is 100% inexcusable for their modern titles like Skyrim and Fallout 4. For the love of god, test your games Bethesda.… Expand

    Very good game and super cheap on steam. The world is massive with hundreds of hours of replayability. The shooting is interesting as it's impossible to hit anything if your accuracy is bad. Overall just really fun and worth the $10 it is on steam

    This was my first fallout game and the largest open world game I’ve ever played. It can be said that the main story is short and not all that good, but the beauty of this game is how much there is to see and do outside of the main story. I racked up 160 hours exploring every section of the map and I’m sure there are still things I missed. Fallout New Vegas is the better of the two, but still, you'll have plenty of fun with this. So if you like open-world post-apocalyptic sandbox games with an actual story and worthwhile experience, you can't go wrong with a game that makes drinking water feel so refreshing.… Expand

    Bethesda games are always released broken, due to that you should download some mods from the nexus to fix the game to your liking, mostly the combat system and aiming.    … Expand

    Growing up in a vault, all hell breaks loose and you take your first steps out into the world.

    The Lone Wanderer from vault 101 they call you.

    A big world to explore and alot of fun to be had.

    You are equipped with the Pipboy, one of the coolest gadgets in gaming, really helps this game be even more fun.

    As much as I like this game, it felt pretty sub-par compared to New Vegas. The environment and story felt so much more like a post-apocalyptic game, however, it just felt pretty...dull. I enjoyed FNV more than this, for the sake of the environment and the liveliness.

    When you develop or publish a game, and you somehow manage to have Liam Neeson in it, then that means that you made an excellent game. The graphics may be a bit mediocre, but the gameplay and the atmosphere are top-notch, and the voice-acting, especially Liam Neeson as the father, is amazing.

    Boy did I love this game. It's what got me into the western RPG games. Everything from the rewarding aspect of exploring to the quirky far reaching writing, to the blending of 3rd person and FPS. First game where i'd set the camera shot before shutting down for the night. Good times.

    A brilliantly made, extremely fun game. Though technically inferior to New Vegas, both in terms of story and content, I still vastly prefer Fallout 3. The sheer amount of detail, things to do, and unique setting make this one of the most interesting open world games around.

    I loved F1 and F2, and was really looking forward to F3. I played for about 10 hours, but ended up uninstalling it. I couldn't put my finger on it. It just wasn't compelling enough to continue. It felt very slow paced and uninteresting. Borderlands filled the void *really* well. :)

This game is a Post Apocalyptic RPG and depicts the Future in Downtown Washington DC after WWIII. The charm of this game comes from the Retro 50's style the game has. The game does have a few problems.While it truly shines in Exploration,I am over 110 hours in and still finding things that i have not seen. This game is HUGE. Not only is it huge but it is a world worth exploring. This game is a Post Apocalyptic RPG and depicts the Future in Downtown Washington DC after WWIII.     But overall the game is great, customization is not limited, you can play countless of hours of missions and side missions. As well as you can play in a Gained Karma/Lost Karma (aka good/evil) and you can change the fate of most events and you can shape the story in different ways.

    Overall I personally like it, it's one of my favourite games due to it's creativity but it does lose some points in some parts of the game. One the graphics and colour design just doesn't go well with the mood. And yes I know the gray colour scheme is supposed to present a "depressed" mood on fallout. But does everything have to be gray and gloomy. Also another thing I would have liked is cinematic scenes in fallout. I know it's trying to be a role playing game thus why you are always looking at a person at the front of the face. But lack of cinematic scenes makes the story too empty. I personally don't care about the story missions compared to the side missions because the story wasn't all that exciting to me. And cinematic scenes would have changed that.

    This game stole my childhood. Bethesda crafted what is, in my opinion, the best RRG ever made. Although not perfect, it has some issues, the game's story, gameplay, side missions, characters, setting, DLC, dark humor, and exploration are incredible and blend in to make a wonderful journey in an otherwise dangerous and bleak world. It is a masterpiece without equal.

    Awesome game if you like having to save every 2 minutes as it crashed to desktop constantly, and has to be restarted, i persevered as it was a lot of fun, but the constant crashing got too much and game was removed after about 30 hours game play

    The good: Fallout finally reaching first person makes this game nearly amazing. Your first steps out of the vault presents you with a dire wasteland that seems to stretch on for ever. The game retains many of the mutant creatures we've all become familiar with in Fallout, and some new and interesting additions are wandering the wastes. The world is flushed, and if you pay attention to the NPCs you'll get quests galore. The game also encourages you to explore, and the more you explore the better a position you'll be in when you reach the end game. There are some amazingly well done moments in this game, and like the rest of the Fallout franchise there's some big voice talent backing the cast. The game also retains the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. primary stats, skill based derived stats, perks and traits system Fallout is famous for. With several expansions in the form of DLC that add hours of game play and even more fantastic stories to play through this game really does shine inspite of it's flaws. The best part, for PC gamers at least, is the mod-friendliness of the game, which will give the game life long after you've explored all the possibilities through multiple play throughs. The GECK program which is free from Bathesda's Fallout 3 site is also great and gives you the ability to modify the game to your heart's content if the creativity bug bites you. Also the game retains the ability to cripple the limbs of enemies either in real time combat, or using the V.A.T.S. targeting system.

    The bad: Even when this game came out it had some issues, one of which is the graphics which were dated in 2008. I can't blame the game too much for this as it uses the same version of the Gamebryo engine that Oblivion used. Even with the latest updates this game has some bugs, though very few of them are game breakers. The story is a bit on the lack luster side until your father (voiced by Liam Neson) dies. As a hard core Fallout fan the biggest complaint is the fact that the game really eschews the lore of Fallout. There are quite a few things that don't fit, most of the energy weapons have been redesigned, the Vault doors look nothing like the ones in previous games, and worst of all power armor doesn't feel like well power armor. The game lacks a lot of the dark humor that populated the original two Fallout games, mixed with the depressing atmosphere this can make the game a arduous experience. The lack of any usable vehicles, or even a horse or mount of any kind makes treks through the wasteland exasperatingly long. The final offence is that you can only have 2 companions, while in previous game you it was based on your charisma stat, allowing up to 5 with max charisma, along with an extra with a certain perk.

    Side note: The V.A.T.S. targeting system can sometimes feel useless because of the real time combat of the game. On the other hand it's always entertaining to watch a slow motion scene of an enemies head exploding when using V.A.T.S.

    The final word: While a great game that does manage to capture most of the feel of Fallout it just doesn't quite live up to it's Isometric ancestors. The lore is a bit broken and it feels less Fallout than other Fallouts. Still it fits well enough in to the Fallout universe and style that even the most purist fans can appreciate it. It's a fantastic RPG despite it's flaws and for Fallout fans it's a great jump back in to the post nuclear apocalyptic retro 1950's sensibilities of a universe we've come to love. For RPG, FPS, and Fallout fans this game is a great addition to your library. Though it does feel more family friendly than previous instalments with the lack of Fallout's legendary sleaze factor, and lacking the ability to shoot people in the groins.    … Expand

    First Fallout game I ever played. Loved it to death. Explored everything, went everywhere. Characters varied in depth, but overall I really got into the story. Vault dweller aspect was really cool.

    The graphics were also really good for the time. Variability of skins, armor and weapons was also pretty good, so I didn't really get bored with them. The marvelous open world of Washington D.C., post bombs, is a deadly place crawling with absurd mutations and Mad-Max like gangs of survivors, and you simply go from place to place shooting them in the face with whatever weapons you can find. Sounds childish, and is, but in a childish glee-like fashion. The game seems to run well on my mid-low end PC, and I'm having mindless fun. The gameworld is actually HUGE, full of discoverable places much like other Bethesda open world games. i'm having huge amounts of fun, even after 6 years of ageing on this game engine.

    I admit that I set off an atomic bomb in the survivor's town of Megaton, just to see the mushroom cloud.
    Killed dozens of innocent people in doing so, but hey, whatcha gonna do? Cheers to Bethesda for making a game that's actually enjoyable after 6 years of ageing.

    8/10 Would nuke innocent men, women , and children again. P.S., I thought that the early 1900's crooner soundtrack actually served as a chilling counterpoint to the wanton and gratuitous carnage.    … Expand

    FO3 is a great game my favorite of all time...I read a lot of the "poor" reviews and its kinda a joke...most of these guys who hate the game are upset Bethesda owns the fallout franchise so in their mind Bethesda "ruined" it and didn't "stick to the lore" well its all nonsense...they're upset Bethesda owns fallout...the story was plenty good actually and it had a lot of randomness to it,FO3 is a great game my favorite of all time...I read a lot of the "poor" reviews and its kinda a joke...most of these guys who hate the game are upset Bethesda owns the fallout franchise so in their mind Bethesda "ruined" it and didn't "stick to the lore" well its all nonsense...they're upset Bethesda owns fallout...the story was plenty good actually and it had a lot of randomness to it, unlike new vegas.....fallout3 did have some flaws but its a very immerisive game when you first play it...I was immersed in the world for a year or so...hundreds of hours of playing easily… Expand

    Unfortunately, if this game didn't have modders that have made it work right/better, this game would be a buggier mess than it already is. NOTE: You need mods to play this game correctly.     One of the greatest game's I've very played. It's just so damn fun, and there's so much to do. You wouldn't imagine how many hours I put into this game. The graphics are sexy, the Storyline is really interesting, and there's also tons of side quests and other tasks to do so as well. They did a well done job with the DLC as well, I definitely recommend downloading the DLC. The achievementsOne of the greatest game's I've very played.     Fallout 3 is a great game overall but it has a few flaws. The game is extremely "glitchy" and has crashed on me a few times. The graphics are dated. This game has the best video game intro ever. I also loved the storytelling in the game. I would buy this game with caution though because of its glitches.

    It was one of my best experiences in terms of immersion when I felt alone in the devastated Wasteland, its story is one of my favorites about leaving the innocence to a merciless adult world, I love the chance to choose to play in 3rd or 1st person (I prefer 3rd), also I love the free, open and endless world to do whatever I want.

    But it feels mostly oriented to casuals, it can't be    It was one of my best experiences in terms of immersion when I felt alone in the devastated Wasteland, its story is one of my favorites about leaving the innocence to a merciless adult world, I love the chance to choose to play in 3rd or 1st person (I prefer 3rd), also I love the free, open and endless world to do whatever I want.

    But it feels mostly oriented to casuals, it can't be played without DarNified, Fallout Wanderers Edition, NMCs Texture Pack, Mart's Mutant Mod, Fellout, DC Interiors Project, Reanimated, EVE, Project Beauty, Hair packs, male and female body replacers, weapons and armor additions, homes, Pip Boy replacers, or better, build your own mods!

    Vanilla it deserves not more a 6, but modded is a solid 10, yes, the polishing work have done by the community but this is possible because it has one of the bests toolset out there, well thought Bethesda!    … Expand

    What really sells Fallout 3 for me is it's atmosphere. It does a great job of pulling you into the mindset of post-apocalyptia. It has a lot of flaws, certainly. The plot isn't really that great, nor is the combat system, but in my opinion it really does make up for those flaws. When I play Fallout 3, I really do feel like I'm a waster clinging to the last vestiges of humanity in aWhat really sells Fallout 3 for me is it's atmosphere.     THE best Bethesda game to date in my opinion. With over 200 hours in Fallout 3, the game just keeps on getting better. Counting aside some typical Bethesda bugs, this might just be the perfect game.
