    It's debatable whether making players responsible for creating content is genius of laziness--doing so helps bond players to the game, but since Faces as few players to being with, you'll likely end up bored. [Sep 2006, p.70]

Volunteered on some of the beta-test servers and backed the Kickstarter for the rebrand (more details on that later).

    Face of Mankind had huge potential as an open PvP MMO with interesting skill-based gameplay and a social order built around that gameplay, not to mention the RP potential of having a game with a player-run police organisation that attempts to maintain law and order. However, this potential has been wasted by staff members who hold serious grudges and developers who don't understand how to maintain the systems that made the world work. Saw lots of friends leave when they would either get sick of the tsunami of crap spewed by staff (especially to justify changes to the game or moderation policies), or banned when they made good points against it.

    I have personally been kicked from the game by staff / developers for:
    - Talking to faction members about how we were threatened with removal from our faction leadership for not using a developer-hosted TeamSpeak3 server (in which they gave their staff members privileges to ban / remove players they didn't like, who were friends with us)
    - Using sniper rifles in a populated area to kill Law Enforcement and Military players (the game is open PvP, but we were doing too well and players were complaining instead of fighting back)

    And banned from the forums for:
    - Pointing out flaws with the handling of Kickstarter funds / rewards
    - Pointing out flaws with the logic used to justify huge game changes that were ultimately negative
    - Suggesting that players who were banned for no good reason in the past be unbanned in order to get more feedback for a "community-driven development" initiative (my personal favourite for the irony)

    This game has gone from 500 players on at once to 30 in the last few months (source: http://steamcharts.com/app/299700 ), and wasted $60,000 of community money from a Kickstarter on making the game worse (subjective game experience aside - the game is infinitely more buggy and less responsive than it was), with several players not receiving the things they were promised with their pledges (in-game rewards of certain item schematics were never delivered), or receiving items of seriously low quality (i.e logo t-shirts peeling with a single wash, etc).

    Fortunately, the game is no longer F2P so you don't have a reason to check it out - they have gone B2P + half the benefits of the old premium model for a slightly reduced price, with the intention to discount the game massively to gain advertising space on Steam's frontpage as their Early Access and full release attempts have lost 90% of the players they originally got in. They haven't locked out old free players who can still continue to play with restrictions, and will automatically upgrade any Kickstarter backers who might still be playing (not many are) - however they haven't been clear as to how you upgrade your backer account while your forum account is banned. I'm glad I don't have to handle that issue, but if they ever sort out the game then I'm sure it will be a pain in the dick to resolve.

    If you're reading this before potentially spending money on it (you made a good decision not to rush in), don't be fooled. This is a game that has alienated and banned more contributing, useful people than it currently has active players. The only reason this game might be for you is if you've just gotten out of an abusive relationship and want some reminders of it in video game form, though there are probably better free alternatives like wrapping your genitals in barbed wire pulled from a fire. The whole game is center around making new players feel as unwelcome as possible.

    I reached out on MULTIPLE occasions to different guild members and quit after about 3 days of BS!!

    The most unique and refreshing MMORPG out there. Quite difficult to learn the ropes, though.
