I did not expect it to be so fun. I was addicted like whole weekend and days after. Its not perfect, but its addicting as hell. Love it! What a surprise game. I choose aston marting, fired all 3 drivers and hire young talents. Play everything manually, P1 always put reserve driver, if you are clever enough, you will hunt back with 2nd driver all bonuses back. I will not spoiler you, butI did not expect it to be so fun. The game is a must have for every F1 fan.
It gives you some great insights and is fun to play.
Unfortunately there are some fixes they'll have to do, especially on tire degradation which seems strange to me that they haven't fixed/realized this before the release of the game. I'm hopeful they will fix some of these issues with an update and then the game will be a clear 10/10.

For my part its like watching and management a real F1 race and since you can adjust the speeds (1x-16x), it takes at least 60 minutes for me to just finish the race without Qualification etc.

Great first installment from Frontier on F1, the game is really good but it could be even better. I assume that they will add more in the future patches or next game (I hope!).

sprint weekends, simulated F2 and F3 races (so the junior drivers improve "organically"), drivers academy (could be generated, starting from F4, maybe), custom team entry, pre-season testing (proper test, not computer simulated saying that your car parts are bad...), receive updates from the drivers you've scouted (this can only work if there is simulated F2/F3 races), the races lack the reliability issues from all teams / motors (which in real life, are common to happen)

Still, game is worth it's pre-order cost. Hope they can step up in future patches or the F1 2023

Writing after playing it for several days in early access - the game is quite enjoyable especially for F1 fans who want to get a glimpse of what goes on inside of managing an F1 team.

It is quite satisfying to come up with a tire strategy and adjust it as you go to outsmart your rivals.

    Some cons:
    - Cars with a new engine have FAR TOO MUCH pace, if you have a driver with a fresh engine while the rest of the grid is on old engines with >50% wear, your driver's pace will rival that of light speed.

    - It's way too easy to overcut with tire strategy if you have a good driver. Good drivers will extend the lifespan of any tire compound far beyond expected levels, and you might turn what should have been a 2-stop race into a 1-stop race. Meanwhile the AI will always stick to one of the suggested race strategies no matter what, even if they have top-tier drivers. These two cons make the game feel a little too easy.

    - Some animations like spinning out or crashing are janky, with cars teleporting or snapping to positions before going back on track.

    - Radio chatter can sometimes be off, for example Charles Leclerc almost always complains about the race being "incredibly difficult" while swearing in between, even if he finished 1st with a huge gap. Where's the celebration of winning a Grand Prix? Radio chatter is also not voiced half of the time and it can be a bit disorienting.

    - Cars return directly into the garage when boxing during Free Practice and Qualies? A bit lazy that they didn't animate the garage crew taking the car in.

    - Graphics feel blurry even on 1080p max settings, there's too many post-processing and anti-aliasing filters going on and there is no customization beyond choosing "medium, high, ultra". At least let us turn off all of the blurry settings! The game graphics often feel like nearsightedness with no glasses.

My opinion about this game has been changing throughout the 35 hours I've played it until the moment I'm writing this. It's not bad, it's just not enough.

My opinion about this game has been changing throughout the 35 hours I've played it until the moment I'm writing this. It's not bad, it's just not enough.

For me, the reference on the genre is not Motorsport Manager, but Grand Prix World, a 1998 season management video game released by MicroProse. Well, in the first few days I thought it was inferior, but that some things were better than GPW. My biggest points on this were both setup perfectioning and development focus on car parts. I thought it was very interesting to configure your new parts for better performance on some tracks, so I thought of focusing (let's say) in high-speed corners with rear wing and low-speed corners with front wing. And the car setup part during the weekend seemed similar to MM, but harder, so it was pretty interesting. I don't talk about graphics because obviously, a game released 25 years ago is much worse than F1M on that side. Implementing team radios, even though they're repetitive, is quite original.

The rest is very inferior. Strategies are always the same, and when it rains, it's very easy to pit first and gain lots of positions since AI usually pits one or none of their drivers in the first lap of rain, which is the one where if you keep your cars out, you can be dead last in the next lap. Driver and staff contracts are weird to manage, you can't say 'I will hire this guy for next season' because the moment when you hire someone, his contract comes to effect immediately, and you're forced to pay a lot of money in some cases to release your current employee. Sponsors are non-existent, you can only decide some things for which they will pay you more but on which you don't have to do anything. At first I thought you could negotiate them from season 2 onwards, but there is nothing about that here, which is pretty dissapointing (since the tutorial says you can do it). Driver and staff development isn't any realistic, I don't think giving them points is the best idea, giving them some potential rating like in FIFA games could be much more useful if it was implemented correctly. HQs are basically MM remastered, regulation changes are quite basic and that's all in the team management side. When you move from one season to another, you can change engine suppliers, but engines are always the same every season and at the same price, not even changing values in reliability (which I understand would be the point since real engines are frozen until 2026).

And then, race management comes to place. Probably the messiest part of the game, there are countless bugs or irrealistic things. DRS trains last for the whole race, you can keep up with new tyre holders with your driver on 40-50% until your tyres get to 30-35%; in the rain, when pitting for inters or wets, you can't overtake cars on slicks and all cars but one or two stay on single line behind them, so if you avoid backmarkers you can easily finish in the first positions and even win the race, especially on monsoon conditions. Apart from this, both fuel and ERS management are nonsense, you can be saving fuel and on -5 laps and pushing hard with +2 laps, it's just very random. And then with ERS you can put overtake mode and your drivers will start trying overtakes in the most unusual places, most times backing up and losing a whole second or even more if it happens in the middle of a straight. Finally, you can't unlap yourself, which is stupid in a Formula One officially licensed game.

This game has a lot of potential... if his reference wasn't Motorsport Manager. Even though it has its flaws, I consider it to be better, but it's miles behind Grand Prix World. Most fans who never played a racing management game or who played Motorsport Manager and F1 Manager from EA will consider this to be a nice game, since both of those games lacked depth and were ridiculous as you could have the best drivers and staff in the first day of your career. But most classic people who know Grand Prix World exists will probably agree with what I said.

For those who don't know, GPW had the only ever existing (and obviously best) sponsor negotiation system of all-time in a game of this genre, very strict conditions for driver and staff contracts, and a 10-year-long career mode on which just making Minardi or Tyrrell score points could take you two seasons perfectly, obviously much more to win or even contend a championship. I still don't get why F1M doesn't follow those steps.

And to finish: NO, ALL BUGS OR ISSUES NAMED PREVIOUSLY AREN'T FIXED WITH PATCHES. THAT IS THE PROBLEM OF RELEASING A GAME WHEN IT'S NOT EVEN FINISHED.

This Formula 1 manager game seems to have a flawed formula.

Free Practice isn't very fun and the impact on performance is so little. Qualifying is also too simple and straightforward. There isn't much to do.

The racing aspect of this game is lackluster and disappointing, primarily due to the ineptitude of the AI opponents. Their flawed strategies often result in them using incorrect tires during rainy conditions, which is frustrating for players seeking a realistic and challenging racing experience.

The game's focus seems to be on the visuals, which are admittedly impressive. But once you get past the shiny graphics, you'll find a game that's devoid of any real substance. The gameplay is shallow, and the parts attributes are just there to make the game look more sophisticated than it really is.

If you're looking for a challenge, this game is not for you. It's a walk in the park, with no real sense of accomplishment when you win. The management aspect is just as lackluster, with no real depth to speak of.

To add insult to injury, the game uses Denuvo, a notorious anti-piracy measure that has been known to cause performance issues. It's like the developers are punishing players for buying their game.

There's also too much copy responses from the driver, doesnt really happen in real life and seems to be added for the sake of it.

Graphics and presentation are top notch, proper camera angles around the track that give a TV style broadcast feel. Good choice of onboard and trackside cameras too.

However, commentary is also a let down. Very robotic and wrong. Someone locks up and the commentator goes mad and the team are showing as going crazy, not realistic!

For me what the real let down is the strategy in the game. Seems that undercut/overcut as well as different compounds dont have any simulation.

I am not one of these sad people who give such low reviews to the game because they decided to dig into the game files and read stuff of reddit. My review is purely as an F1 fan and someone who wants a fun game.

The other disappointment is doing things to manage the ERS, this should be managed by the driver as team boss its not really something I expected to see as a gameplay feature.

I dont think I will be buying this next year unless they sort out these things because then you go down the route of buying an unfinished game each year hoping they fix it.

That being said its better than that rubbish from Codemasters and if you had to spend your money on a game I would spent it on this rather that poor excuse that is F1 22.

    Negative Aspects:

    Monotonous Progression:
The Manager Mode can sometimes create a sense of monotony in progression. Some years may not differ significantly from previous ones. This could lead to players feeling unsatisfied with the progression process.

    Lack of Timing Integration:
Team management could have been more deeply integrated with the race calendar. More interaction and balance between race weekends, events, and team tasks could have been implemented. This lack sometimes makes the manager experience feel superficial.

    Conclusion:

The Manager Mode in F1 2022 stands out with both positive and areas that need improvement. Elements like realistic team management and the development system add depth to the game. However, the monotonous progression and timing integration shortcomings might prevent the experience from being fully satisfying. We hope future updates and versions will shape the Manager Mode into a more balanced and compelling experience.

What ISN'T there right now are deep management systems, a functioning economy, interesting races and technical defects, any real challenge past the first couple of races and absolutely not long term (since even the worst team can easily be turned into a title contender by season 2),...
And then there are the bugs. Lapped cars suddenly stopping in the middle of the road holding up traffic, cars with broken rear wings driving super slowly around the track for ages, safety cars not following rules, in general some occasionally very weird behaviour by the driver AI, gearbox bug,...

But outside of races there is nothing to do. You dont have option to change sponsors, you dont need to worry about money pretty much. In midfield teams once you develop 2-3 parts you start to fight for wins. You can see anyones stats without scouting. No ingame interviews. You can win a gp with Williams and no one gives a f, no email anything. Oh and achievment are really boring generic crappy ones.
I can only hope that Frontier will focus on off-track things in next years entry, because if they would add little bit of personality, managing crew training, working on car reliability, and something to do outside races (interviews, checking news where some rumors can generate).

The driver AI is poor overall and they make very strange decisions. I had a driver run into the back of the same car 4 times in the same corner during the first 10 laps at Miami - he lost over a second every time, but has not learnt anything, it would seem. The events were not registered as incidents, there was no damage. Drivers overtake faster drivers thanks to DRS, when they should stay behind and go faster as a result. Then they get overtaken and the story repeats itself. The way you micro manage drivers during the race is a huge letdown; the drivers (and engineers) do not have any intelligence, experience or autonomy. If you tell your driver to use the highest engine mode, the mindless drone will follow the order until they run out of fuel. It feels like all drivers could be described with one single parameter - pace.

Race strategy does not seem to matter. Tyre compound/condition does not seem to matter.
Cars racing side by side through corners don't act like racing cars, they act like toy cars being pushed by children.
Most/all? drivers are a 'they', not sure why.
Graphics are nice. The drivers look great.
The commentary is irritating and feels fake.

There is so many things wrong with this game.

    - Tyre simulation non existant.
    - Stupid AI, makes bad decisions in game
    - Very shallow gameplay between races
    - Stupid setup minigame, which also feels very shallow
    - Way to easy. WC with Aston Martin second season. Doing the exact same thing between races
    - No sponsorship interaction
    - No media interaction
    - Very limited staff and driver interaction
    - Idiotic fluff to fill out game, like building maintance
    - And the list could continue.

What is most freightning is that these things where in the last two decent F1 manager games, GPM2 and GPW. And these games are 26 and 24 years old. How can these two old games have more depth than this brand new AAA title.

A game that gets worse the more you play it. A fun experience that is very easy to exploit once you understand how the game systems work. The first 5 hours are fun but every hour after this becomes an unenjoyable, disappointing slog.
DRS trains are terrible. Fuel saving for 50 laps yet not reaching the finish? Overtaking fails and forces a car to simply stop for 10 seconds for no reason.

Honestly, and it pains me to say this, the game feels unfinished and after 50 hours, I have to call it a day. It's just not as good as it could be. Better UI than Motosport Manager and that game is no perfect product either but it is far deeper and a better experience than this.

Is this mobile game? Planet zoo had better tire management than this game, absolutely broken mess, if this is supposed to be yearly release maybe in 2035 it will be playable

All the main feature are broken... tyres, fuel, slipstreaming, safety car etc. The graphics are nice but what's the point if the underlying game is totally broken!! This will not be fixed by next year and I 100% will not be buying next years incarnation.

You get to enjoy each race in real time, with highlights of the most exciting action and commentary from Will Buxton. And that's what this game is all about - the authentic experience of driving your own stable. That's all you need. [Issue#322]

F1 Manager 2022 drives a perfect line by clearly taking some inspiration both from that game as well as from the series' own (distant) past, but it feels like something fresh. Every element of it feels refined in a way that is clearly specific to the real-life sport, and it is both defined by and pays homage to reality. It's a game that has shockingly few true flaws, and while it is also very much geared toward a specific crowd, I had a great time elevating Haas to (just a little bit more) glory.

F1 Manager 2022 does a terrific job at recreating the atmosphere of Formula 1, but the simulation itself needs huge improvements, because poor balance and terrible AI strip the races of realism.
