The unique system of hacking and freedom of thought make Else Heart.Break() extremely engaging game, in which the freedom will make you almost clueless. The possibility to program the world to you own image, however, is worth a little awkwardness.

Else Heart.Break() is blazingly modern in design, antiquated in execution

Pushing the envelope in several key ways that will appeal to those who are adequately equipped, else Heart.Break() is that rare game that’s enjoyable and yet can’t be outright recommended for all to play.

Else Heart.Break() is a strange non linear adventure, deeply based on exploration and hacking mechanics. Perhaps the lack of details provided to the players and the slow pace of the story make this title not for everyone.

  1. The story and dialogue itself is also super simplistic. I actually appreciated this more and more as the game went on. The whole thing had a flavour of Final Fantasy about it – you join a band of activists in an unfamiliar city, fall in love with one of them and fight against a mysterious and dodgy regime.

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Past a certain point the narrative funnels the player into following it and doesn't give the player time to explore. If anything it punishes the player for following it by forcing them to choose between the narrative or their world-hacking exploits. Furthermore the plot doesn't even advance at the start unless the player is in the right place at the right time and turns up at a series of parties (which isn't exactly an obvious thing to do - hackers aren't exactly known for going to parties and mingling with people). There are a couple of glaring bugs in the quest system. I know of at least one quest linked to the main hacking group that the narrative entirely skipped over in my game (specifically the Casino Heist). And when I was trying to complete a quest to find out the Mayor's secret, one of the hacking group burst into the room, interrupted my conversation and started me on the next story quest.A game with so much potential that ultimately falls infuriatingly short of what it could have been.

Else Heart.Break() its a fantastic and unusual game.

Is a complex game, in which we have to discover by ourselves, how to do, where to go... a true exploration game.
Visually is very interesting and detailed, just to mourn the camera that sometimes gets in strange positions not allowing us to see as supposed.

Overall a fantastic game. An excellent and unusual experience.
