Some of the elements are well realized, the environments look good and the sound is well done, but the AI and repeated “terrified” civilians, fails to elevate this title to the ranks of solid tactical combat shooter.
-
The games biggest problem, as I have said before, is that it is coming into a market that is ridiculously over saturated with WWII and Vietnam shooters already, and it does not do enough to separate itself from the pack, so I have a feeling it will be doomed to slip by the wayside unnoticed by most.
-
If you are looking for a great military game set during the Vietnam War then I can rattle off a list of about four great games and three good games. Unfortunately, Elite Warriors: Vietnam will not appear on any list other than war games to avoid.
-
Just a bad game, and unless they patch it thoroughly, I can't recommend it to anyone in good conscience.
-
Neither especially tactical nor satisfyingly action-packed.
-
The execution leaves a lot to be desired, though, and all-too-often feels more like work than play.
-
It doesn't look bad, and it certainly doesn't sound bad, but combat is alternately vicious or easy.
-
Cheat Code CentralEWV is not half bad but guess what the other half is? Not good!
-
Even as a budget title, Elite Warriors: Vietnam is an underwhelming game. The AI is buggy and ineffective, the missions are stale, and the strategic elements feel hollow and, ultimately, pointless.
-
Computer Gaming WorldIf this game is any indication, the SOG soldiers were blind and deaf, and had the tactical sense of lemmings. [Aug 2005, p.76]
-
PC GamerA bug-ridden quagmire that rivals the 'Nam itself. [Aug 2005, p.57]
