One of the best games I've ever played. Interesting chips, gameplay, parkour, graphics are part of what I love about this product from Techland. Yes, the plot is a bit damp, it's hard to argue with this, but still, there is something in it.
The idea itself is very interesting - parkour in the zombie apocalypse, and it is executed at a good level.

    This game is a masterpiece.
First: it's Polish (im also Polish so that's a good thing)
Second: The gameplay is really good, it's not just "beat the fuc up out of everything you see", you need to avoid some of the zombies, like "that zombie is the one I cannot deal with so i need to find a different way to my objective", plus the night is so scary, if you haven't played the game you don't

My favorite game ever. Outstanding story, sometimes when I zoned out I felt like I was in game for a moment. Best music soundtracks in comparison to the games I've played, they really have a unique unexplainable vibe. Something about the zombies was different from the rest zombie games... Parkour is also outstanding and insanely fun to do.
    Easily a 11/10 game.

People complaining about starting game with trash weapons but they probably only playing Asian games which is starting with 20 Meters long swords. You'll getting really epic weapons after few hours. You'll addict the game give a change for a short time. Unlike that games with paperish mechanics and garbage ragdoll mechanics this game is hella fun for action. You can feel any hit, drop, fell and climbing. Best Arpg ever made.

Great game especially for those who liked dead island.
Graphics are good, the soundtrack superb and overall "tone" is right. The parkour is top notch! Now, how could we ever play a FPS in the future without the "parkour" element? lol Once you get used to it, develop it and master it, its gonna be hard going back to the traditional FPS control scheme... And if you disliked Dead Island, Dying Light is worth a try. Lots of gamers hated it for the controls... they're way better now!

Thx Techland, you did a great job. I expected the game to be one hell of a console trash ported to PC, but yet the game is graphically and its gameplay and story are very high. Sad for AMD ppl, but in the days the PC market is heavily ruled by Nvidia+Intel, so you had to be smarter while buying a new rig.

I'm playing at 2560x1440 on a 4770K @ 4.4Ghz, 780Ti and 8GB RAM rig. All settings maxed apart from shadows on high (ultra isn't worth the performance hit) and a view distance of 50%, which is more than enough. Until Techland patch the game, running CPU at HIGH priority smooths performance acceptably. Apart from heavy foliage areas, the game runs at a 50-60fps constant.

Until Techland patch the game, running CPU at HIGH priority smooths performance acceptably. Apart from heavy foliage areas, the game runs at a 50-60fps constant.

Gameplay is very nice, the free running is very well implemented and once you've opened up some of the extra abilities and feel comfortable with the controls it's excellent. Weapons feel good and each has it's own realistic weight and swing speed. Tackling the different kinds of zombie is fun and it's not long before you are dancing around the slower ones, picking them off with various kicks and melee attacks.

I started the game with the XBox 360 controller, but it's a first person game, therefore, mouse and keyboard (with a well thought out binding setup) is the best choice for a more responsive experience. Also, the M&K offers more choice in how you deal with a situation; get stuck in a tight area - surrounded by moaning zombies - with a controller, and more often than not you'll need to make a run for it to survive. Playing with M&K offers agility, something that really plays it part in Dying Light.

The main story is fine and side missions bolster it further still. Characters are decent enough and most add a certain amount of emotion to the game, allowing the player to feel part of something rather than just a lone wolf hack and slasher. The crafting is well done and all sorts of crazy weapons can be made; the intrigue and excitement of what weapons the game has in store for you is almost enough on it's own to make you want to keep playing.

Graphics are very nice and people moaning about performance issues need to reduce settings or simply upgrade their hardware. Games like this are made for gaming rigs, not everyday PCs. I get similar performance to the likes of FarCry 3 but the visuals, in my opinion, are overall better, especially the detail and draw distance. Shading and light effects are excellent. as are particles and smoke. Both night and day look good, very good.

The audio is very good; moaning zombies, weapon slashes and bludgeons, environmental ambience, etc, all work well to provide the gamer with immersion. I play most games with music off - I don't want to feel like I'm in a movie - but the tunes in Dying Light are kept to a minimum and are adequate.

It may take parts from FarCry, Mirrors Edge, Assassin's Creed and it's own predecessor, Dead Island, but it does it with great aplomb. Techland deserve praise for this open world game. It's ticks all the boxes for me and if it wasn't for the iffy performance (the odd slow down during certain combat and cut-scenes) it would be a 10/10 from me.

The only real negative I have for the game is the lack of an option to turn off the film grain effect the game insists on using. I do understand the reason is for immersion but having clean graphics should be an option and also definitely better for those of us who do not have top of the line graphics cards.

    1. Intuitive RPG system where new skills are either useful or fun and most of the time both. You will eventually get all of them so no remorse when selecting those.

    2. Good difficulty ramp-up. Monsters get stronger as you go deeper into the main story (you get to discover more variety), so feel free to stop main quest any time and get new skills if you feel like it.

    3. Lot of things to do on the map. There is lot of interesting sidequests and random encounters on the map that keep exploring the map interesting. Some of them have long-term reward: you can learn how to craft new and interesting item, unlock safe-house or just get to a new part of the map that you never were before. There are also different challanges - kill X zombies withing Y minutes with given weapon. Run this track within time limit - even competing on internet ladder with other players. There are also random encounters where you get to help fellow living citizens or get necessary supplies for your side. Good stuff and this is where Dying Light surpasses Shadow of Mordor.

Also the dev team keeps improving the game adding some random new features that may just make you try the game again. For instance just for two days last weekend devs disabled cooldown on grappling hook so you could move around the Haran like spiderman. I can definitely recommend the game.

As much as I was disappointed by so many games in the past year, I was at first surprised and then delighted by Dying Light. Sure, the story is mediocre (but it does take 30 hours to go through it all), characters are barely fleshed out and the vast majority of what is in Dying Light was somewhere else before (Far Cry 3 comes to mind most often). But as with Shadow of Mordor, all of the diverse influences come together to make something amazing. Parkour is a lot of fun and stays fun as new skills are learnt and give new movement options. A new environment appears 2/3 through the story and you can finally run along rooftops like a true parkour champion. Melee fighting is well-balanced and feels great and also changes significantly as new skills are unlocked and better weapons found - at first (and by that I mean many many hours), running is the only option, then some moderate fighting, only towards the end does fighting make sense, still without being too easy, as the zombie hordes can still easily overpower you and there are new types of much tougher zombies. Then there are the nights that change things around even more - adding stealth, making things more scary, making you run away in terror every time you are spotted by the much faster night hunting zombies.

It's a good game. There is so much in it and despite being somewhat repetitive, it doesn't get boring. Some gameplay moments are pure gold - having to cut a path through a hall filled with a 100 zombies, trying to save a friend on the other side. Your first fight with an enemy sporting an assault rifle, shooting at you from a roof, making you plan your approach so that you can find a way to rush him with your baseball bat without being headshot. And so many others. Some other moments are not so good - the ending fight sequence comes to mind.

Still, this is by far the most pleasant gaming surprise I've had in the past year. Thank God this is nothing like Dead Island.

The only problem I see with the game so far is that when you play with four people it is a little too easy to kill zombies, and therefore you get a crazy amount of loot and can make endless flares and molotov cocktails. This makes the game even easier. All in all this game was an excellent purchase and I am glad to say it was well worth the $60 price point. Expand

Free-movement laterally and vertically through an urban environment is done very well (and gets smoother with skill-ups) never gets old, and the environment reward exploration with valuable loot, blueprints, and trophies. Urban verticality means there is often a way over your problems, and sparser outlying areas make you very aware of how vulnerable you become without a plethora of obstacles to put between you and your pursuers.

Enemies that don't seem tedious because they always present a 'fight or run' decision at every turn (and running is still fun). At night, this turns into 'run or run like hell' if you get spotted (night is skippable, as is day).

Anyone who complained about wildlife in Farcry 4 will find DL's zombies a reprieve. NPC's don't exist as badger and eagle fodder (making their often quirky/appalling subquests a part of the story as well as often reward you with unpurchaseable/uncraftable weapon upgrades (or even blueprints for craftable ones).

As you develop your skills, the hordes grow more numerous and diverse, always posing significant risk to your well being. Expect to get beaten and killed, often, depending on your approach and ability to weigh risks. Firearms are powerful and become more available as time goes on, but will attract measures of unwanted attention which, again, may or may not be worth their use in any given situation. The risk/reward balance feels well measured, and trading an obnoxious threat for a more predictable one can sometimes be worth it.

Disposable melee weapons keep you on your toes and makes upgrade components all the more valuable as you progress; there's no reason to hoard. Keep the best, upgrade them, use them 'till its last breath, chuck it into the skull of a zombie as a parting celebration, and remorselessly move on to the next. Weapons are tools (literally), and there are plenty of them in Harran, so sell off the spares.

Dying Light lands as a solid experience well worth the expense, both in story and gameplay. Sound and graphics play perfectly together as you jump, loot, and bludgeon your way through the streets trying to save as many people as you can. NPC's do their best to hold their own, protect their own, and know their city better than you do. Helping them feels rewarding, and I'd give them better than even odds against your average honey badger; having to combat the living is a completely different affair. I've seen pairs go toe to toe against rebar-wielding monstrosities with somewhat even odds, making my casual intervention feel worth it in the end.

    Pick it up.

The running and climbing is a really interesting addition to the "Zombie melee FPS" genre. Feels very much like Assassin's Creed to climb up those tall buildings :)

The weapon degradation system is however, terrible and is just a way to artifically try to make the game more difficult. The first thing I did was to turn off the degradation completely by modding the data files. With proper weapons, you can enjoy the story and focus on surviving and fighting, and not worry about a friggin sledgehammer breaking up after hitting 5 zombies with it. I mean, imagine if Michonne on Walking Dead had her Katana breaking up after 10 uses. Ridiculous. I would understand if wooden weapons like a table leg, of a stick, WILL break. But a sword, and axe? Come on. And even with the "unbreakable" weapons, the game is still a real challenge, just one less thing that will annoy the hell out of you.

Plenty of sidequests to enjoy alongside the main missions. The area in the beginning "slums" were not too appealing, later on, when you get to "Old Town" it's much more like a kind of European city, and is really quite impressive.

A solid game that got better and better the more you play it.

One more important note, I also modded the graphics to remove film grain and chromatic aberration. Those two things that are in the game engine normally, make the game a pain in your eyes to look at. Later versions gave the choice to remove film grain in the game, but Chromatic Aberration was never removable, without mods. So get over to Dying Light Nexus and make the mods needed to enjoy the game.

The game needs to be played with keyboard + mouse, that is the most natural way. I tried playing with xbox controller, but the default button layout made it almost impossible. Also that could be modded, but all the precise aiming while running is only possible by mouse. So mouse and keyboard s the best option, definitely!

I'm not completely finished the main campaign but so far but it is good, nothing mind blowing but it isn't bad.

The world is really neat and fresh, finally not being set in North America like every game today is. The world is also packed with stuff to do, collectibles to collect, side quests to do, random world events like helping survivors and airdrops that help to make the world feel very real.

Coop is amazing and really fun, if you are thinking of buying this game, i recommend not purchasing it alone, as if you get some friends together for this game your experience will be far better.

Parkour is slow at first since you are new to the game and also the character in general at first because he isn't a parkour master right at the beginning like in some games, but as you parkour around you become much faster and go get around the city with ease, giving off a real nice feeling of accomplishment when your character is a really high level and is so much faster than when he was a low level in parkour.

Be The Zombie mode is fun, although at the time of this post it is broken and no games can be found, my only gripe with it is that when it was working, i had to turn off zombie invasions because if i i had it on for night, as soon as it turned night, a hunter invaded me, as soon as that match ended, another invaded me, they need to add some sort of cool down after you are invaded to give the player a break without having to turn invasions on and off. It is also really nice that they made "Be The Zombie" mode available to all players rather than just pre-orders.

Combat is intense and fun, and unlike dead island which got extremely repetitive after 10 minutes there is a lot more creativity in Dying Light. In the start it is sort of boring as your character is a low level and doesn't have many abilities or weapon blueprints, and it is just you whacking zombies with floorboards for a while, but once you unlock awesome abilities like grapple, allowing you to toss zombies into spikes or off of buildings it gets a whole lot better. And once you unlock elemental ninja stars like exploding stars that you can toss at a red barrel sitting next to a group of 10 zombies and watch them all go flying the combat really starts to stand out.

Some reviews of people that have 10 minutes on the game state there is no day/night cycle, and that is completely false, the game disables nighttime and freezes the time for the first few missions to allow the player to get a hold of things and learn what the heck he is doing, and then enables the day/night cycle. And when it becomes night the game goes from zombie slasher to full on horror stealth game. The Volatiles may take a bit to spot and can be avoided if your smart but if you get caught, damn is it hard to get them off your tail, and you will likely die. My only gripe with this is later on in the game once you unlock equipment such as the grappling hook it becomes much to easy to lose the Volatiles and the game overall becomes far too easy for my liking.

For the most part the game is not glitchy, once or twice while playing me or a friend fell through the map and died but that was the only glitch we encountered and it was nothing game breaking, so if you are worried about this game having bugs galore no need to worry.

Port wise this game is good, nothing stellar but it is good. All keys are easily rebind-able which is nice, game runs well (Note that this is on a Nvidia card, and some users with AMD have been complaining about performance issues), though the main trigger for FPS drops is view distance, which heavily bogs down your computer and if you are having performance issues i recommend immediately checking that your view distance isn't set to really high.

Overall great game with lots of content, as of this post i have 36 hours of game play and am 80% done the story and 50% done with total completion. Definitely worth your $60.

Gameplay- It plays much like a cleaner, better looking, more fluid, and more fun dead island. It feels like dead island with a larger budget. Running up walls to escape a horde, finding safety as night approaches, using upgraded abilities to kill more zombies with greater zest- it all works and works well. In terms of game play it was everything that dead island was supposed to be. My only complaints are breaking weapons, old school health bars, and stamina meters. I think these things restrict you, but it still works out. [9/10]

Graphics/sound- The sound is effective at creating a serious atmosphere- when a zombie is right on top of you, you hear it. When a horde is approaching- you hear it. It is all done well enough to keep you engaged though it is not really stand out to me. The graphics are nice, clean textures- great environments, and good character models really sell the experience. Expect some frame rate issues when game play picks up- and also I experienced a crash time to time. However there were no broken quests. In a game this size you have to expect a few bugs right? [8.5/10]

Story- This is the underwhelming portion. The story is far more serious than that of dead island. No dark humor, no super cheesy characters (well not as cheesy). You find yourself helping the few survivors in the city with fetch quests and the typical point A to point B. There are a couple surprises- and a passable story to match. None of it is bad, but none of it is great. It is clear the time was put into the gameplay. On the plus side the game is sizable. If you are a completion you could get 70 hours out of this game, though the average gamer can expect 30 to 40. [7.5/10]

In all this game is a great zombie experience. Fun gameplay, great graphics, and a very well done open world make this an adventure worth having, even if the story falls short... An 8.5 out of 10

It is 100% and apocalypse simulator. But the real fun happens when the sun goes down. Then it becomes a nightmare simulator. The Volatiles are ruthless and brutal. The first time you kill one you have such a feeling of satisfaction. Which is shortly thereafter ruined by his friends coming to rip you to shreds.

Also, you can tell which reviewers didn't actually play the game for any length of time by the ones complaining about the size of the world. There is a whole other city you go to later in the game besides the area you start in. It's not as big but the buildings are taller so it's comparable in size and things to do.

The only reason this game does not rate a 10/10 is because of a few niggles I have such as some of the mechanics are ripped straight from other games. Now this isn't necessarily a bad thing (lock picking right from Skyrim) but I've seen so many of these in other games now everything is a little too familiar. All I know is that apart from the fairly demanding specs for the true visual glory the game is an incredible experience for zombie gash and smash fans. The multiplayer is enjoyable and for me the story actually quite enjoyable. Time had obviously been taken to pad out the huge game world with events and side missions and the visuals are just fantastic on the PC. Add to this the crafting system and the choice to gun wield at high risk of alerting the zombies if you so choose makes for an exceptional game for the next gen era. Only cons for me were the forced-checkpoint save game and loss of dropped items in secure environments. These however, pale into insignificance once you absorb yourself in to Harran's plight and bring your feet down on zombie cranium from a great height. Expand

Graphics: they are good enough. Requirements are a bit steep and it suffer of some fps drops but nothing huge. I play it at almost highest settings possible with a 280x.

Storyline: this is the weakest point of the game, you are the usual good guy out to save the world, end. The antagonist is pretty much ripped off the Far Cry style, you know the crazy-badass-phylosophical-psycho style. Sidequests are more entertaining though and kind of saves the game's plot telling.

Environment: pretty huge but you'll go around pretty much the same areas all the times, still it is really well made and plenty of details and stuff for you to go around parkouring or fighting. There are random encounters so you'll always have something to do hanging around.

Combat: this is one of the best thing about this game, in fact you are strongly discouraged to combat at all. Most of the times you are better off running, at lower levels you need 6-7 hits IN THE HEAD to kill a simple zombie. The game really challenges you to use your brains instead of just clicking into some zombie head. When special zombies appear you're gonna have to run scared sh*tless like a little girl.

Nightime: when nighttime approaches the game morphs into a survival horror, special infected appears (called volatiles) which actively hunts and RIPS YOU TO TEARS. You have to be fast and cautious but you gonna have lots of fun and exp playing at night.

Multiplayer: it's fine, coop is good but I found that I'd rather be playing alone. There's also a special kind of PVP similar to Left 4 Dead 2 pvp mode or Evolve where a player invades your game in form of a super badass zombie and you - with your friends - have to kill its nest. nice.

Overall it is a 910 game, it's good, lenghty, has coop and pvp, good gameplay and mechanics. Some sort of a dead island but made well. In fact, I don't see why anybody would play Dead Island 1 or 2 anymore, this is by far the best first-person zombie survival.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "It's like far cry 3 with zombies"

    Real Score: 8.5/10

I'll give it a 9 because they announced some really cool content coming in the future.

Gameplay: Killing zombies with different melee weapons never gets old, really, it's so much fun to just run around the map killing zombies, opening chests for better weapons, doing these little random events like save some guy from zombies or from Rais's (bad guy) men. The way the game scales is simply brilliant, you start weak, you have to avoid zones full of zombies most of the time because your weapons are weak, after some missions you get EXP, you start leveling and getting new skills, finding better weapons until you get stronger, and you'll just 1 shot zombies or multiple zombies at the same time, your parkour skills will get better aswell so jumping from house to house will get easier and more fun. On top of all that, during the day the game is a survival game, find loot, get weapons, do some quests, lvl skills, during the night is more of a horror/stealth game, because at night, really strong, fast and vicious zombies roam around the map and they will chase you and pretty much shred you to pieces if they catch you. The multiplayer (COOP) (Recommended) is really fun, people can just join your game and help you around with some quests of main story, you can get invaded by a special zombie, controlled by another human. The coop is up to 4 players. 9/10

Story: Now serious, it feels a lot like far cry 3/4, and it's full of cliches: the bag guy is crazy, you appear out of nowhere and you volunteer for everything, you can do everything people there couldn't do for ages, long story short you are the typicall hero. So for the story I would give 6.5/10

Graphics/Environment: The graphics are amazing, the environment is perfect, it does feel like you are in a post apocalyptic city, it's really immersive. The 2nd and last place you go to is actually really beautiful. 8/10

Content: Main story, around 40 side quests, lots of challenges, little events, some chests/cars to lock pick to find better weapons and outfits. I finished the main story, all side quests did some challenges, events and wandered around just killing zombies and lock picking chests/cars to find better weapons, and I have 35 hours of gameplay, but I'll probably play more later since they already added (free) new content like 50 new weapons, new weapon rarity, some outfits and difficulty, and they teased us with CARS! to be added in the future. 8/10

The Antizen is supposed to be coming in airdrops, right? So why is it when you're good enough to collect night drops, beat Reisz's men to the drops, or beat up Reisz's men for the drops, why is there no Antizen? Extremely frustrating. The side quests range from dark and serious to so-bad-it's-good ridiculous bloodfests, and they manage to keep things fresh enough that you can get over the fact that it's either "kill 30 zombies" or "fetch the person/glasses/book".

The strongest aspect is definitely the parkour. First person parkour systems don't usually work well, Mirrors Edge is the closest they've managed and honestly it was always a little unreliable for my taste, but it was so linear that it varied wildly between "incredibly fun" and "tedious platforming". Dying Light takes that system, simplifies it a bit, and puts it in a well designed open world where you can get from A to B in a myriad of entertaining ways. Want to run through the city and dodge zombies? Go ahead. Path across the highway by jumping on wrecked cars? Safe and sound. Race through the slums on rooftops? Watch out for those cheep plywood covers, and don't fall. Extremely well done.

The combat is a big step up from Techland's previous entries as well. Gone are the zombie levels and click spamming to clear a path through the horde. Some zombies are tougher than others - Goons, for example, can take a lot of punishment - but even early on you can kill almost anything. Number's are the zombie's biggest advantage due to the weapon durability and combat endurance. Both are easy to adapt to - don't flail at a bunch of zombie torsos, strike the head and back off - but if you decide to start smashing skulls you can expect to get bit. A lot. Especially in the early and mid game, it does a good job making combat an option, but typically not the best option, for getting past obstacles.

The crafting system is pretty basic, and kind of ridiculous. Grab everything, because only weapons take up inventory space, and use it to create ridiculous weapons. Baseball bat with a cattle prod, butcher knife with a butane torch, hammer with a syringe, why not. Consumables are a bit more reasonable at first, with throwing knives and Molotov cocktails, but they you start crafting elemental shuriken and grenades and it gets just as ridiculous as the weapons. It's more useful than, say, Far Cry 3's crafting system, but a bit out of place.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the night time. At night, some pretty nasty zombies called Volotiles come out. These are a bit like the zombies from I Am Legend - they're sensitive to UV light, which can be used to weaken them (or supposedly kill them if you catch them in a trap, though I've never managed that), but they're incredibly fast, incredibly strong, and very durable if you don't first burn them with the UV light. For the most part you don't have to go out at night except for a few main story quests and you can just sleep in safe zones where nothing will bother you, but if you do go out you get double experience, plus a bunch of extra exp for escaping Volotiles and even more for killing them. That's not counting the chance to kill Bolters for valuable crafting supplies and a few quests that require collecting and/or activating things at night.

Overall, it's a great game that shows a lot of polish. Hopefully Techland will get a chance to refine the formula down the line, maybe shore up the tone and story which seems to be the weak point of Dying Light. Big props to the developers though for putting time in after release to add modding (with multiplayer matching no less) and Linux support.

People are haters, but this game is on par with Fallout 2, best game in a while and the parkour will make your hands sweat. the modular weapon and crafting is simple and fun, the story is great. the multiplayer sucks, but thats not why you buy a game like this, multi is cool for co-op with friends. you will not regret buying this game.

I have been a MetaCritic user for years. The somewhat lower than I expected reviews prompted me sign up and write my own review. I prefer reviews which mix the good and bad. I can then reject the comments (good or bad) that I feel don’t apply to me. So here it goes:

    Pros:
The open sandbox, parkour style free running is excellent, and very well done.

I parkour’ed my first night away from the enemy without getting killed. And then continued to avoid nights until I realized, you gain too much experience at night to avoid it. And when the grappling hook is available (Level 12), it’s like a whole new game (day and night)!

Fighting zombies, and different types of zombies, and groups of zombies, and groups of different types of zombies … and having a day/night difference. Fun, fun, fun. And the game gives you your choice of many ways to approach this when you choose to fight: different weapon types (upgrades, modifications, etc.), skill trees for better moves, tonics for increased skills, grenades/mollies, throwable weapons, traps (both game provided and user created). I’ve played through twice (once on normal, once on hard), and I still haven’t tried all of the techniques available.

Dying Light is a gorgeous game. It demands high end graphics, so I had to tune things down on my laptop … but it was still gorgeous. But when my new PC game in … oh wow!

And then hard mode came out. I’m a huge fan. It’s like Bioshock Infinite’s 1999 Mode, but better, because what they do is shut down all of your “easy” buttons (Survivor Sense is allows you to “see”/”guess” where supplies might be hidden, and this is disabled), etc.) … it makes you play almost as if it were a real apocalypse. Don’t get me wrong, the Survivor Sense actually makes sense … if you raided a random house, you could easily find “unsearched” locations and search them quickly – the game just provided a button for this skill to help you out. But I liked how they handled this, and everything else with hard mode.

The story line is enjoyable and professional. The voice acting excellent.

    Cons:
First play through was on laptop, and they put a post card sized 1024x768 window in a 1920x1080 screen. NOTHING I did changed this. I could even change my Windows screen resolution to 1024x768 … and they would change it back! Very weird. I got used to it, but am not a fan.

Cut scenes are well done. But what I call “cut scene” actions … I cannot stand. Some people I am sure are fine with it. But when the game wants me to push “A”, then moves through the scene a little and says push “D”, then moves some more and says push “W” … in order to progress through a “scripted” portion of the story line … honestly, I’d prefer to either see the video … or, better yet, let me use those learned skills to kick some butt. But no.

Speaking of skills, to make things difficult, the game will, many times in the story, artificially hamper your abilities (no grappling hook, no inventory/weapons, no health kits, etc.). Man, if they could have just thrown 4 more bosses at me and let me keep my skills and weapons … I would have been much more happy about dying.
    ---
I have 131 hours in the game (so far). I paid opening day price for it (I don't even remember...call it $60). That's less than $0.50/hour of entertainment. Where else can you find this kind of value for this much fun?

    That’s it. Great game TechLand!

Dying Light takes a bunch of pages out of the cliche zombie game handbook and refines them to make them feel new. You play as Crane, a employee of the GRE (some government organisation i think) to obtain a top secret file that is even disclosed to you. you get doped into Harran which is quarantined off from the world due to a huge infection. After being attacked by a groups of survivors and zombies your saved by two people (one of which dies) and taken to "The Tower" where you are told to meet the boss, instead you talk to a kid in his teens named hasan. At this point you get your first mision and where you learn the mechanics of the game. Hasan has you go through a parkour puzzle and then sends you out on a fetch quest. The gameplay mainly consists of running to a place, avoid zombies, kill zombies, retrieve item, and run back. The game emphasizes using the parkour system to jump on the roofs of building to avoid zombie since most of the zombies can not climb. Most of the time it's better to use a melee weapon since guns make lots of noise and attract zombies. Your starting weapons and horrible and deal no damage and break quickly. It is important to spend the first hour of gameplay searching for parts and money for weapons that can actually kill things. You can earn skill points by killing zombies, doing tasks, climbing, etc which allows you to unlock new abilitys. You can also craft weapons and items such as medpacks and lockpicks. You also can unlock safehouses by killing the zombies in a certain area and sealing off. Safe houses pretect you from zombies and give you a place to sleep and buy stuff. At nightime the zombies become more aggresive and night hunters come out which are very fast and strong zombies that if they see you will chase you through the city and you have to use traps to evade the hunters. The overall variety of zombies are limited but most of the time I found myself just jumping over and running away from most zombies especially the hammer zombies which deal massive amounts of damage and are hard to kill. The parkour system is a little clucky at times but works fairly well most of the time. The story is pretty interesting especially Rais (the main villan) who had a interesting personality. He is a phyco but not in the traditional way. He will kill his own men for little reason and teases crane throughout the game how crane always takes orders. Other characters like Jade I didn't really like. Crane somehow managed to fall in love with her even though they barley talked to each other. The story overall is pretty good and engaging. The multiplayer is a little dull. One the the gamemodes is where one player takes control of a really overpowered night hunter and the player(s) have to destroy all the nests without loosing all there lives. the survivors can using there UV flashlights to burn the hunter before he latches onto them which burns the hunter and gives the survivors and chance to kill it. The other modes involve killing zombies and collecting loot and other tasks. The level editor is intresiting and it allows you to download user made maps off the workshop to play and adds more replay value. I do not own any of the DLC so I cannot give my opinions on those yet but they don't look that bad. This game is a deffinate overlooked gem of 2015 and may be one of the best games of the first half of 2015. A fun story, good mechanics, and tense gameplay make this a really fun game to play. The only downsides are the repetitive fetch quests, no fast travel, and the abundant use of quick time events. At the 33% off ($40.00) it's 100% worth it and a must have for any zombie game fan. Can't wait to check out the DLC and mess around in the city of Harran some more. 8.8/10 Expand

    PROS:
    - You have the ability slice anything off of a zombie
    - They crawl if you chop their legs off
    - Parkour (devs did very well on)
    - Crafting (all sorts of crafting of "steroids" and elemental weapons)
    - Skill tree upgrades (adds some flavor to leveling up)
    - Challenges (Bovak challenge is nice and in-game challenges are difficult)
    - Nightmode (adrenaline rush)
    - Map (absolutely huge and gorgeous)
    - Side quests (fun, full of references and never really get in the way)
    - FATALITY moves (skills enable fun ways to stun and utterly dominate zombies)
    - Map editor and workshop (opens up to developing and testing maps which creates an after-game experience)
    - Excellent human AI (Walks up with a rifle to two enemies with melee weapons. They surrender, you shoot both and take the goods.)
    - Co-op- I don't have too much experience with it because none of my friends decided to buy the game, but if it's anything like Dead Island's Co-op, I would be more than happy.

    CONS
    - UPDATES (the game hasn't been updated in a logn time making it hard to say "would buy again for $60"
    - Zombie difficulty: the common zombies are difficult at first and easy in the end which is how it's supposed to be. The problems I had were with demolishers and the volatiles (night zombie in trailer.) Demolishers are waayyyyy to strong in health and sometimes do an instant triple back (glitch?) making it hard to avoid them or kill them. Also, confining them to an enclosed spawn area takes away from the fun of having them chase you through the like the chargers in Dead Island did. The demolishers' ability to throw rocks is also OP due to the fact its nearly impossible to kill them with ranged or throwing weapons anyway. Ironically, my next point being volatiles, are way too underpowered. You can argue that they have bulky health making killing them difficult, but they are fairly easy to outrun. They are limited to melee attacks, run slower (maybe same as sprint speed of character) and can't grapple you quickly. This could all be fixed by adding a minor ranged attack (less powerful than toad, but slows you down.)
    - Storyline: not extremely rich (like Far Cry 3), has a little less of a Dead Island feel where its there, but your too busy killing zombies to care until the finale. It's simply too linear.
    - Guns: Everything was nearly perfect with balancing the power of firearms in this game from making ammo scarce as well as killing zombies with headshots. The diversity of them however was extremely slim. There were like 7 different guns in the entire game. Only ONE shotgun (double-barrel) , two rifles, and 4 (one being obselete and the other is one you get once per game, so more like 2) pistols. If they provided at least an automatic shotgun, I would be somewhat less disappointed. This was one of the main buzz kills of the game in my opinion.

    NEUTRAL
    - Multiplayer (THIS ISN'T A DEVELOPER OR GAME ISSUE, ITS A PLAYER-CAUSED PROBLEM): Think of all single-player based games. Now think of one where the multiplayer is actually good. Be The Zombie mode let's you join into someone else's game and kill them which may seem harsh, but the players can beat you too by destroying "nests." This game is a great representation where the multiplayer is somewhat fun, the only problem is that nobody plays it. Everyone wants to go off and explore by themselves or with their friends (I'm one of them) without disturbances from op super-mega-ultra zombies. This can be enabled or disabled at the player's disgression, but the only "problem" is that everyone has it disabled meaning that there is a scarcity almost in the amount of "servers" that are available. If more people were open to it, it would be fine. Or if they came up with a separate game mode. On the bright side, being the zombie lets you have your own zombie skill tree, you get to kill people and eat? (they kind of explode after you grapple them) and it opens even more room to experience the game.

OVERALL: It may look as if my CONS section is huge, but in reality there are only 4 of them there (I just like to critique the cons for the understanding of the reader) and there more than double that amount in PROS. Overall, it's a fantastically made game and I would definitely buy it for a reduced price. This beautifully made game will not entirely disappoint and is overwhelming in zombie/human decapitations. The graphics are gorgeous and the map is huge and fun to explore. whether you buy it or not, know that this is an excellent game and the best in the zombie-action genre currently.

I played Dying Light once not long after its release (without progressing very far), and once again two years after with a friend (an experienced veteran who has beaten it many times and rushed me through the game this second time).

I feel that the game looks and feels amazing on the outside, but truly lacks depth on the inside. If you want to make the most out of your experience, I strongly recommend NOT playing with someone who has beaten the game already. Otherwise, the game will lose its shine very quickly if they rush you through, and you won't get much enjoyment out of it. Moreover, co-op makes the game easier because of the added fast travel and player revival features, so it is strongly advisable to increase the difficulty.

Although this is an open-world game, it follows the same formula other open-world games use: You follow a main quest and do hundreds of seemingly never-ending side quests. Time flies by while you do them, making it seem like the game's extremely vast and has a ton to offer.

It's really cool to explore and to have the freedom to do whatever you like because of the parkour element to the game. Unfortunately, I realized quickly after playing with my friend that most of the quests and events were actually unnecessary and don't benefit you in the end. Most of the side quests were tedious errand runs.

Most players starting Dying Light would expect the usual human-versus-zombie action, but it's really not the main focus of this game. Zombies perpetually respawn, meaning it is pointless to waste your time on them. Avoiding the zombies is the best approach except for self-defense or when required to progress. Also, weapon balancing is pretty awful in this game because some of them become useless later on, meaning you can't keep favourites for long. Some mechanics like using traps and whatnot are unfortunately more effort than they're worth.

One thing that you will be pleased to hear is that the DLC "The Following" is essentially the sequel of Dying Light, but jam-packed into a single DLC. The DLC is so massive, you might as well call it Dying Light 2 (I'm not kidding). The story follows the original campaign but takes place in another map that's been built from the ground up. There are a lot of new mechanics that make the game even better than before, and a ton of extra stuff that you can do without getting bored. Why wasn't the DLC released as a standalone game? Who knows.

My two peeves with the DLC is that first, there are a lot of climbing areas that are intricately designed but can be easily skipped by simply using the grappling hook (which takes the fun and skill out of climbing), and second, that the final boss is absurdly difficult and tedious to beat and really not worth the effort since the ending itself isn't particularly interesting and can just be watched on YouTube.

Overall, I will give Dying Light a solid 9 for the amount of content it has. It was one of the first games to pioneer a true open-world zombie experience (unless you want to count its predecessor Dead Island), and comes with Steam Workshop support to give you even more to do above and beyond an already massive game. The difficulty is balanced enough to give a realistic feel, although on harder difficulties it can be annoying to keep dying.

I haven't tried out the PVP aspect of the game yet so I can't give an opinion on it, but according to my veteran friend, it requires significant skill since pros dominate it now, meaning it is difficult for newbies to get into it without getting constantly stomped on. He does not recommend trying the PVP unless you really want to.

This game is extremely fun, the graphics are really good and the parkour is just insane!
The game can be a bit boring in the first missions but as you progress you get awesome weapons.
I don't know why this gave received bad reviews, it's really good.

My game of the year 2015. Extremely fun, violent and mature first person zombie survival game with great parkour mechanics - Basically a cross between Mirror's Edge and Dead Island (fun fact - Dying Light is developed by the same guys who made DI!).

9/10 instead of 10 - for those weird solutions like QTE fight with Rais or weirder one with Tahir. However, compared to so many modern games DL1 will be 12/10.
Chrome Engine 6 looks great even in 23` - and much better than c-in DL2.
Story line - many say its too simple, but I say its believable; main Evil ones - surprise, Techland predicted WHO of 20-22 spot on (WHO=GRA obviously,

    Story line - many say its too simple, but I say its believable; main Evil ones - surprise, Techland predicted WHO of 20-22 spot on (WHO=GRA obviously, especially when it comes to anti-humanity in actions);
Rais is super-charismatic bad guy, does evil, but speaks true wisdom to Crain, you hate Rais, but can`t deny his got a point.
Jade and Rahim - simply amazing, grab not just your attention, but feelings as well... so does Brecken - wish there was more of him in game (i know he was originally one of player`s)
Music - great and spot on in-game, 10/10
After DL1 will be impossible to play Dead Island or Mirror`s Edge.
Gameplay is good, but first-time night run to the tower (story mission) is simply unforgettable, and if you didn`t jump of the bridge (from the very top) - you didn`t play DL1.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Sound is a key factor in creating an atmosphere for a game; the music and environmental sounds should be pristine. This game doesn’t disappoint the player in this aspect. Dying Light has a distinct soundtrack that complements the gameplay very well with music that compares to ‘70s and ‘80s horror movies. It gives this game an eerie vibe, contrasting music that sounds playful and energetic with scenery that is quite the opposite. This contrast twists the brain’s preconceptions to intensify the feeling of delusion and hopelessness that is found in the game. Along with the music are the 360 degrees of environmental sounds submersing the player into the game, keeping them on their toes with random bangs and zombie screams. Zombies can be heard from all angles and the gamer knows where they are coming from before they can see them, adding to the effect of feeling like being dumped into the center of a very dire, yet exciting situation.
Although Dying Light was released in 2015, it is certainly able to stand up to today’s games in terms of graphical quality. Beautiful night and day cycles with sunrises and sunsets, along with weather aspects such as rain and storms look life-like and incredible. The game includes detailed shadows and lighting effects that have the ability to show themselves off in the darker environments. Because of this, the gamer is kept on edge as they are only given a flashlight and a weapon in many small, enclosed dark areas. This game gives a realistic depiction of a shredded city as light is playfully augmented with smoke, fire, lightning, and explosions to create an atmosphere of unrest and dread.
The gameplay of Dying Light does not detract from the level of detail and suspense the creators intended and gamers crave. From the very beginning, the player is thrown right into the action as the main character is dropped into a city street of Harran via airplane, where he is immediately bitten by a zombie. Dying Light is able to pull the gamer into the story and keep them hooked without them having any idea of what is going to happen next. Jump scares and plot twists keep the story fairly unpredictable and therefore interesting. The game mixes the genres of action and horror into one to make the storyline attractive to the end.
The side missions are the real treat of Dying Light. In the side missions, the character development is a quality factor as the player comes to understand the backgrounds of the characters and is given information on the factions that have formed due to the situations they have had to face. In addition, there are a plethora of DLCs (downloadable content) that can help further explain elements of the game, continue the experience of the main story, intensify the levels of horror, or increase the skills of parkour. Some of the downloadable content is so detailed that it could be a stand-alone game. All of these story options combined create a nearly unlimited amount of exploration and immersion into the progressively more difficult world that will most likely lead to many hours of intriguing gameplay.
Part of having a good storyline is having good characters, and the developers delivered with Dying Light. As the story progresses, the player learns more and more about the main character, his background, and his thoughts. He turns out to be a very dynamic character, changing throughout the game as he learns who he can and cannot trust. Players also get to learn about the different factions, their leaders, how they came to be, and who is helpful or out to do harm. Even the zombies have a diverse set of traits, with names like Biter, Virals, and Bombers, which describe their abilities to wreak havoc.
As for the replay value of this game, it could best be described as decent. For a game that has a fairly linear story line and skill development, once it is played through, that is just about the full experience. With that being said, Dying Light does have many features that lend itself to being played again and again, such as an open world with randomization of weapon, ammo, and material placement and the ability to craft and trade to earn money in various ways. Also, because the story is quite meticulously detailed, there are sure to be some nuances that players may not have picked up the first playthrough.
Overall, I would give this game a solid A. This definitely is not your dad’s glitchy and played-out Resident Evil from the ‘90s. Dying Light is one of the best story games I have ever played. Its storyline is able to take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride; in the end it leaves the player feeling happy that they had the experience, sad that it’s over, and a little shaken up from the turns, hills, and valleys. The music and setting were carefully crafted to make this game a full experience, as well as the detailed visuals and character development that add depth. While the replay value is of average quality, I would highly recomme

A very fun game to play and watch!
The gameplay is very fluid and fun, the visuals are good and the combat, despite some flaws, is solid and easy to learn.
And, of course, parkour [the main element of this game and the reason I bought it] is fantastic, maybe the best of the generation.

Невероятно зрелищная и залипательная игра. Паркур и шинковка зомби - две крутые вещи, которые вместе становятся ещё круче. Сюжет достойный, не чувствуется скучным, хоть и геймплейно всё сводитя к приди, собери, повзаимодействуй, спаси, убей и тд, но подаётся всё так хорошо, что ты даже не обращаешь на это внимание, ну и к тому же РУБКА ЗОМБИ ААХХАХАХАХАХХА РЕЗНЯЯЯЯЯЯЯЯЯЯЯЯЯ P.S.: неНевероятно зрелищная и залипательная игра. jogo bom pra caralho, jogabilidade bastante divertida e achei o coop sensacional, infelizmente acabei zerando rápido demais e provavelmente deixei de notar alguns ótimos pontos da história, mas amo a continuidade do jogo e tem belos visuais, sejam cenários ou até mesmo os zumbis. jogaria de novo!!

Something new in the gameplay, a good story, despite the fact that it is cliched and formulaic (protagonist always survives after getting into the most life-threatening situations
For example once he was shot by a crowd of trained people and he still survived)
Nice music and atmosphere, the gun sounds and the shooting is at a good level. Optimization is good, I have a relatively old

Don't let the Dead Island affiliation sway you one way or the other, Dying Light is its own game and it's rightfully fun, but it's not something that is Game of the Year material to me. If you like zombie games and open world games then this is worth the pickup, but otherwise I'd skip it until it goes on sale, because it's still a really fun game no matter how you dice it.

It’s a game of a thousand house calls, in which everyone needs something they can’t get or do for themselves. Catastrophe has made every doorstep a welcome place, with disease and death the justification for an openness that might seem unthinkable under other circumstances.

If you can get past the clunky storytelling and the repetitive missions, you might a diamond in the rough that really empowers you to revel in the design aspects of its zombie-infested sandbox.
