A simple enough racer, #DRIVE Rally is the next evolution from Pixel Perfect Dude's last #DRIVE title. Whilst the racing is fun and competent, the lack of anything else to do might be a little off-putting. But for those that want cute arcade racing, this will get your engines revving.

Undemanding car races will suffice for less experienced racers, but they certainly won't inspire much enthusiasm. There are several shortcomings, including the weaker driving model.

It's all very disappointing because every facet of #DRIVE Rally is something that really could've been something special had it been thought through or fleshed out more than it was. The only strength is the game's presentation and art style, but when the remainder of the package is an arcade-style rally game that has no progression and a series of rough edges, it becomes impossible to want to keep playing for very long.

#DRIVE Rally delivers on its intentions to be a fun, arcade rally racer. You can quickly get into a race if you are short on time or are just looking for something less demanding than a more realistic rally racer. The game launches on September 25, 2024 on the Steam, Epic, and GOG game stores. [Early Access Provisional Score = 75]

DRIVE Rally is a well produced, fun rally experience. It’s imperfect but there’s plenty of time for tweaks before the full release in 2025. With a unique artistic style, arcade style handling, four charismatic co-pilots and a plethora of stages, there’s more than enough on offer for both beginners and rally veterans alike to enjoy in this early access release. 3. Outside the co-drivers, I enjoyed my time with Drive Rally. While the career mode is bare bones, the actual rally driving is wonderful. It strikes a balance between being approachable and having the depth to keep you playing and improving. Well worth a look if you miss the glory days of 90s era rally games. [Early Access Provisional Score = 75]

As the title suggests, #DRIVE Rally is a rally racing format driving game. Rally racing means that rather than racing side by side with other vehicles, you are solo racing through treacherously twisty tracks and against a stopwatch to see how quickly you can reach the finish line. At the end of the race, your score is presented against other players locally and globally, as you all compete to have the best time on each track. [Early Access Review]

It’s a good step from a developer in Pixel Perfect Dude that’s gradually branching out from a background that mainly looks to be mobile-centric. With a bit of further refinement, it could turn into a very good addition to a mini-genre that’s proven through the likes of Art of Rally - though that is a very different game vibe-wise to #Drive Rally - that it has space for smaller studios offering quirky takes that help equal things up in our current sea of uber-realistic racing. However, if it’s going to hit those heights and build on what is a fun core as it races on down the early access trail, there’s some work to be done and maybe some lessons to be learned.
