    The European version of Dragon Nest is far from perfect, but It’s really entertaining if you’re looking for a simple and fun MMO experience.

    Its combat is deep and rewarding, and pits you against some truly interesting encounters. The care put into each and every bit of character dialogue is also evident throughout, and adds a great deal to the charm of the world.

Some of the quest writing really is good and has made me laugh a number of times. I like that I can play it a single-player RPG with the option to group when I want to. The PVP is pretty fun too. The only real downside seems to be limited content, if you are the kind of person who puts crazy hours into grinding an MMO until you hit the level cap it will probably take you < 1 week, but me being a casual player I've still got a ways to go.… Full Review »

The biggest problem with this game, is the bottlenecking to the cash shop, and always will be. If they toned down on the bottlenecking, this game would be much more successful. I searched for awhile to find an MMO with similiar combat, but Tera which was similiar, was not even close to this near perfect combat system. There enhancement system is also similiar to TERA, its completely RNG. But, it makes gearing up a lot slower unless you invest some $$ into it. The story is pretty good for a "free to play" MMO, and has several cutscenes. PvP is very fun and takes a lot more skill then WoW or GW2. The "raid" content is also very fun, and UNFORGIVING. The effects are also top notch and demand a lot from your GPUs but man....what a light show. You feel powerful. Very fun, but expect to invest into the cash shop.     While it is easy going on the eyes and skills, and has a intuitive approach to play, I will talk about what makes this game particularly frustrating.

    I don't think one can review a game just by playing a month or two. At higher levels, the game becomes predominantly cash based. Buying items in the store(purchased with real money) adds to your stats. But some of the more valuable items in this store are lottery based. So you buy something called a dragon egg which has mostly useless items. About one hundred eggs later you still haven't found what you want. Whereas a chosen few players within the community seem to have a suspicious amount of luck. I found out that some of them are nexon employees/ related in some way to Nexon.

    You can earn small amounts of gold doing quests and selling items on the market place to other players. But the really valuable items that would fetch you decent amounts of gold are extremely rare and limited.

    The other part of this in game economy system is that almost anything decently valuable needs to be stamped which needs to be purchased with real money. Most times, an item becomes not worth trying to sell because it wouldn't pay for the stamps. Again some people do get loads of free stamps. A person I know got 5*100 stamps as a reward. How? I and almost everyone else I've talked with have only gotten 5 at the most.

    The gold is important, for equipment.

    The community, I have found to be generally elitist, there is a culture where in you are judged easily by your equipment and costumes, which relates to the amount of money you have spent. This culture is something Nexon promotes because it puts peer pressure on you to spend money.

    If you don't, you dare not join any teams because players will inspect your gear and kick you out if it is not the best. And this is basically what the 'nest' in dragon nest is about. This is the actual point of playing the game. The raids give you valuable materials and equipment. But you need equipment to get in there. And you need to enhance your equipment, using cash for protection jellies bought in the Nexon store. And it enhances on a lottery, which means your enhancements can fail or worse, like me, you can lose the item that you just spent 50$ real money on trying to make enough gold to buy it in the first place because the game crashed. And as again, there are a few people who have no problem with this. And they will sell you weapons for 25k gold. (Gold can be purchased at the rate of, approximately, 5000g = $100 from other players)

    My advice: It's really not worth playing past lvl 25. Which is a shame, because it is otherwise a very well designed game. Or buy a game for $300 - 500 upfront in which you do not have to spend money in game.    … Full Review »
