Going into this game, I had extremely high hopes, most of which were smashed against the cliffs of mediocrity. Dragon Age II is nothing more than a half-hearted attempt to cash in on the incredible success that was Dragon Age: Origins. That said, the game has both positive and negative features that one must take into account.

Combat was really fun BUT the story is short and boring . The side quests are very repetitive with the same locations over and over again
Hawke was a very likable character , but unfortunately was the protagonist of a forgettable and mediocre game

A big step back from the first part.

It can be seen that the developers were in a hurry to release it. Everything happens in one city and it's tiring. The story is not as cool as the first part. You need to try very hard to complete the game and not quit it in the middle. You just have to push yourself and force yourself to play. Unfortunately, the ending was disappointing, as well

I believe this to be a very good game, just not as good as Dragon Age Origins. EA did a number on Bioware, forcing them to release the game at this state but the story has some very good twists, especially a few dark ones i did not see coming. The characters in this game are more interesting than the ones in Origins, and the tactical mode is set aside - which is good for me.

Well, they tried to do Mass Effect with dragons to approach more casual gamers. And they failed miserably.

Reasons: 1. Best feature of Origins (origin stories) is missing. 2. Stupid and useless conversation wheel that nobody asked for. Your character can either be well to nice, complete douche or comedic dufus that takes nothing seriously. And half of the time the character says

    3. Horrible color pallet (everything is shades of brown and gray). Lifeless city of Kirkwall as the entire setting for the game.
    4. Atrocious one dimensional companions. The dog from the first game has more personality than most of the new ones combined.
    5. Awful anime style combat, with endless and boring spawns of same enemies.

It is 9:30 Dragon. The Hawke family arrives in Kirkwall. Sometimes with a brother, sometimes with a sister, always with a mother and a sarcastic elder sibling. They look up on the chains of the city of Kirkwall, hopeless as an old drunkard reveals his lies.

It is early 2012. Those chains shall be yours, for the next sixty hours.

It is early-to-mid 2012. Friends exist here. People you care about. But... but. You tire of the walls. Walls, everywhere. Brick and sandstone, gravel and stone. Linearity and repeated cycles. It is 9:34 Dragon.

It is mid-2012. The outside has walls. You cannot see it, but you know they are there. Invisible walls, a linear path, the same grass, the same stone. Same as the sandstone and brick. Everything has one road, everything repeats, again and again. New places are old, but old places are never new. It is 9:34 Dragon, it is mid-2012.

It is late summer 2012. You reach an end. The city burns, the chains seem to break. It has been six months, it has been sixty hours, it has been seven years. It is 9:37 Dragon, it is August 2012.

It is late 2012. You return. It is 9:30 Dragon. It is early 2013. You return to your friends. It is 9:34 Dragon. It is late 2014. It is 9:37 Dragon. You look down. The shackles were never broken. One ties you back, the other ahead. It is late 2016. It is 9:30 Dragon. Sandstone and brick, friends and companions, also locked in the walls of the prison that you can see and not see. Friends you return to. To make sense of it all. It is late 2018. It is 9:30 Dragon.

It is late 2019. It is 9:34 Dragon. The shackles never released you. You are tied, backwards and forwards. You may never leave here. You shall always return. It is mid-2021. You are tied, backwards and forwards. It is 9:37 Dragon. The walls. Sandstone and brick. Invisible and visible. It is mid-2022. It is 9:30 Dragon.

This game itself is not bad enough. But against the background of the first part, it looks rather weak. I would call it more of an extension than a separate full-fledged continuation of the Age of Dragons series.
An interesting big town with different districts. Slightly improved combat system. Interesting characters with different stories. Good graphics and sound.

But the plot is not very interesting. Monotonous locations that are repeated many times. Poor sidequests. Backtracking. Lack of diversity. Global decisions that you made in the previous part are almost not reflected in this game.
Unfortunately, this game does not live up to its status as a sequel.

The game doesn't deserve so much hate. It's still a good game despite the small game world. The atmosphere, plot and companions are excellent.

You can tell that the game was made in ONE year.

Story is meh Characters are really good. Your choices do not really matter and in the end your Protagonist is not important in the Story as all the things would have happend even if he was not there. The Rival system is cool The Fights are a hit or miss, it is fun for the first 10 hours but it gets boring. The map is ugly and

Its amazing to think that despite how invested Dragon Age Origins got me into this world, I could barely stomach playing 2 hours of this game at first. I had to quit after that for a while but eventually forced myself to play a few more hours.

Every element of Origins has been either simply done worse here, been removed, or made more casual and shallow.

This game is not even close to the master piece DAO is, and considering all the issues with development, It's ok game on it's own way.

Better graphics and more stylish fights than in Dragon Age origins, but you cant really move around the world like you did before because you are stuck in one city.

Moving even further from the classic RPG, strong story and clever combat are nonetheless still found within Dragon Age II. [May 2011, p.52]

Despite some advancement in storytelling approach and liberal borrowing from Bioware's Mass Effect approach to gameplay, Dragon Age 2 on the PC has a lot of bugs and is populated with re-used settings that make this feel like a play performed on a stage with two sets.

For a rushed product that is still battling bugs, the currently offered product still provides 40 hours of challenging and engaging gameplay. This combines to provide a good, but not great gaming experience.
