    super good game, fast paced, high skill cap, graphics are good, animations are good, so many hero to choose from (102 and more to be port from DotA), some of the heroes are funny with good voice acting and funny lines and have unique and interesting character, all heroes are free, with accessories drops every game end, etc...

    I was happy back in the day HoN got launched because of the features. With DotA 2 it's possible to play the original with these features and more. Still the deepest and most complex game of the genre, whatever the name should be.
    If you like to get punished for stupid mistakes and get your deserved reward for great play, then you are right.

    Dota 2 is nothing more than an attempted effortless cash in by Valve. You wanted a fresh new game with lots of new ideas that gives you a real reason to improve at it and come back every day to play? Well TOO BAD.

    Instead all you get is - original DOTA with a new coat of paint - questionable art direction - EXTREMELY SLOW gameplay and matches - NO RANKING SYSTEM - a community that    Dota 2 is nothing more than an attempted effortless cash in by Valve. You wanted a fresh new game with lots of new ideas that gives you a real reason to improve at it and come back every day to play? Well TOO BAD.

    Instead all you get is
    - original DOTA with a new coat of paint
    - questionable art direction
    - EXTREMELY SLOW gameplay and matches
    - NO RANKING SYSTEM
    - a community that is nothing but trolls that will literally trap you in the environment to troll you
    - A TERRIBLE report system that simply counts the number of reports against a player and eventually punishes them in some minor way for 5 minutes
    - A complete lack of literally ANY originality, no new ideas, systems, modes, maps or anything else folks!
    - A god awful tutorial that does nothing to go into the much more important and deeper mechanics of the game
    - A lack of ANY WAY to concede the match so 9/10 games you'll end up sitting in your base for 10 minutes watching the enemy very slowly get closer.

    In short, as I previously mentioned, DOTA 2 is nothing more than a redone version of it's original with nothing to offer and certainly no reason to keep going back to play it unless you're a troll.

    If you want a decent MOBA game and LoL is too easy, shallow and casual for you then I HIGHLY recommend you try out "Heroes of Newerth" the best, most complicated, competitive, skillful and unique of the MOBA genre with a lot more to offer than this!    … Expand

    First of all, I want to say to you guys, that MOBA is not new genre to me. I played League of legends like 2 years, Heroes of newerth like 1 year and few times original dota.

    Dota 2 is lilttle bitt different if we compare to other MOBAS, there is alot more things you can do.     Game is very friendly for players who havent played before MOBAS, there is long training before you can go and play against other players (For me it took like 40mins, after that you can continue or skip straight to play with other players)

    Anyway, since its more new player friendly there is problems. First of all, Ive been playing alot MOBAS and im pretty good in those. Problem is that game is pretty full of casual gamers, who actually dont use brains even people who haves like 500+ wins, may be pretty bad players.

    Lets talk now little bit about good things. In dota 2 waiting lines are not big and also you can choose region near your country there is alot options.

    You can also buy new items to your heroes to make it look more unique, you can use items from different sets. In League of legends and Heroes of newerth you can buy "skins" and you cannot took gloves from skin X and boots from skin Y.

    You are also able to buy several different ancouncer voices, ward skins, HUD skins and couriers.

    Next lets move to settings. There is not much resolution options, but you can modify pretty extensively other settings. I hope valve is going to make more resolution optison in future.

    Gameplay in dota 2 is pretty intensive and few heroes are able to use terrain very advantageous, which is cool. Most of heroes are aldready known from original dota version.

    Last but not least, I want to talk about gaming community. First of all you are able to make teams and play with your friends. You can also make guilds, which havent that big role in dota 2. There is alot people in dota 2, who dont communicate in game and that is such a shame mostly it leads to lose. Of course there is people who communicate aswell, but I have had always bad luck with teams...

    I prefer this game for people who look more "hardcore" way to play MOBAS and for those, who are bored to LoL, HoN etc.    … Expand

    This game is amazing. They patch it often enough (though some would say that missing a seasonal holiday patch dead game). Endless gameplay possibilities and awesome art, best MOBA I've ever played.

    Despite all the anger from the 12 year olds mad about not getting a halloween event, DOTA 2 is a well programmed game with very good mechanics. While it is true valve does not communicate with us they still give some nice patches. The community isn't as bad as it seems. People say please and thank you at least unlike in LoL.

    Even League of Legends have better communication between developper and the commnunity.Valve abandoned the game and don't realease updates it's been 4 months since the release of a new heroe.

    Valve and Icefrog made a good game.They did a great job bringing the game to the ideal. Community you are unhappy with one of the opening event go play in other games.

    Probably the deepest and most meaningful pvp experience you can have in an online game. From Hero choices, to lanes and item selections, this game has the possibilities of chess wrapped around a ridiculously skilled rts game.

    the servers are down or not available in parts of steam/dota almost every 2-3 days for 1-2 days in duration. its a total pain in the ass. it's horrible if normality is people talking reacting to lag issues like "ah steam again. how long will it be this time?".
    - no diretide even though it was announced as an annual event
    - commending and report reasons are too few. for example why isnt     the servers are down or not available in parts of steam/dota almost every 2-3 days for 1-2 days in duration. its a total pain in the ass. it's horrible if normality is people talking reacting to lag issues like "ah steam again. how long will it be this time?".

    I love DOTA 2. Love it. A lot of people have dropped the user review score, because they are petulant children who did not get the temporary Halloween event they expected, so that would be my only complaint the user community can be immature. But, that is not a reflection on the game itself, which is engrossing, engaging, and frankly the best MOBA game out there. It is truly F2P, unlikeI love DOTA 2. Love it.     If you have ever played WC3 DotA on which this game is based, it has improved a lot and constantly evolving. Not only is it free to play, but also the purchasable content is strictly cosmetic.     Nice game, but crappy community, the only bad thing i see about the game, is the matchmaking, it has to be improved ASAP, i love the game but joining pubs alone is a bad experience.

    O nobody of them (if you have any lol) play this.
    Solution-> be polite sharpen your skills be a good player and ask other people you played with (that you consider good in any meaning of the term) to play again with you.
    In conclusion be a good gamer enjoy a good experience or be a dick and enjoy a dick growing up your ass. MUAHAHAHAHA
    Pointless to say that every team PvP community is toxic as and mobas are hella elitist so deal with it you will get insulted where you go, accept that or take this quote made by a LoL player: cry me a river you lil and put a ward on it.

    Yes you my dear valve... who took my favorite game to make it a chicken that poops golden eggs. Stop making hats and make some content or you will die of thirst to better teams, i have a free keys to open the chests of your minds: good games MAKE MONEY, good teams developing good games MAKES MORE MONEY, listening to your community to improve your game with a good team MAKES EVEN MORE MONEY.

    Seriously awesome game, even though it's a bit addictive, so watch out for that.
    - Not ONE gameplay aspect requires payment.
    On a sidenote though, this game is more about competition than it is about "fun", and while playing it you may find yourself on a toxic environment, this being especially true for new players.

    WRONG

    I've never even SEEN a matchmaking system more broken. Every god damn game of Dota 2 is a steamroll for one side. If you're winning it just gets easy as hell and you can play as sloppy as you want. If you're losing there is pretty much nothing you can do to make a comeback, and you're then forced to watch the other team toy with you instead of ending the game. And you can't agree to a surrender in like oh I don't know EVERY OTHER MOBA GAME EVER MADE. Seriously.. why the can't your team agree to a surrender? Why do you have to just sit there while the other team kills you IN YOUR FOUNTAIN? You can't leave the game because you basically are tracked for games you leave, so what are you forced to do after this game you already spent 20 minutes waiting for and 50 minutes playing a lopsided unfun steamroll on? Wait 10 more minutes and just watch the other team toy with you, like happens every god damn game.

    Horribly horribly inexcusable to not have a surrender option. The lack of a surrender, long match making times, and horrible match making of skill is where I downrate this game mostly. The other reasons I downrate it are the before mentioned horrible snowballing this game employs. If anyone on a team feeds AT ALL it's GAME OVER. disgraceful.

    The other thing is the game simply is laughably imbalanced. For instance, some characters just suck complete ass, like the brood mother. You can't ever use her spiderling skill because a.) they aren't even that good, but more importantly b.) They give the enemy experience when they die, and most importantly c.) They give the enemy gold when they die. Considering how weak they are, any decent AOE spell is going to kill em all and put the enemy WAY ahead of you, like basically a heroe kill's worth of gold and exp. It's ridiculous. And it's pointless to use the spiders in any other way than bunched up, because on their own they can't do ****

    Compare that to a phantom lancers illusions which give NO GOLD and basically NO EXP when killed, yet they are probably close to 100x more useful than a spiderling. SO MUCH SENSE BEING MADE BY THIS GAME.

    And you can easily see on the stats that the game is horribly imbalanced, broodmother has something like a 37% win rate, so I have facts to back up my statements. THAT IS NOT A SIGN OF A WELL-BALANCED GAME PEOPLE.

    Aside from all that the game plays well, a lot of the heroes actually are designed well, such as spirit breaker and pudge. The game requires much more skill than LoL to play which is something that I like. Landing a Pudge hook from long range or concealed areas is infinitely cooler than landing any skillshot in LoL, and the heroes are much more dynamic in their move sets.    … Expand

Then to take that, plus a team of VALVe employees and re-create a completelyReally, if you think about it, Dota2 is one of the most unexpected things to come along in gaming. VALVe somehow got DotaAllStars head developer, IceFrog, to work for them, and then manged some brilliant legal maneuvers to land the Dota trademark (being unable to secure the full "Defense of the Ancients" title). Then to take that, plus a team of VALVe employees and re-create a completely faithful, responsive, and entirely competitive re-creation of the original game (warts and all) in VALVe's Source engine. It's unexpected in the first place, and then unexpectedly good top of that. There are a hundred ways this could have gone so wrong for VALVe, but the fact that they feel it is enough of a success to put it out there at the cost of ZERO DOLLARS. Talk about unexpected.

    Sure the competitors are also free, but the competitors are "babby's first moba" and "Costly McCostHuge."

    All the heroes are unlocked for you to play with, FROM THE MOMENT YOU DOWNLOAD. This is huge to a Moba, I believe. It's worth a download, play the tutorial, a couple bot matches and see if you don't find at least ONE hero that doesn't click with you somehow.

    All the negative reviews are LoL fanboys.

    ok, I am 17 and move from game to game for about 3-5 years spending sad amounts of time on each franchise for example CoD, Battlefield, Halo, Minecraft and hundreds of games inbetween, this is important because I have tried lots of A*** games and This is genually the best because of:

    A) The competitive scene and youtube videos that are related, Purge gamers, dota cinema, join dota and    ok, I am 17 and move from game to game for about 3-5 years spending sad amounts of time on each franchise for example CoD, Battlefield, Halo, Minecraft and hundreds of games inbetween, this is important because I have tried lots of A*** games and This is genually the best because of:

    A) The competitive scene and youtube videos that are related, Purge gamers, dota cinema, join dota and lumi are the ones I watch the most.

    B)The sheer enjoyment you get from playing the game, including getting kills, getting items and learning in general.

    C) Valve, I think this game is amazing because of valve, they constantly update it, balance the heroes, patch any glitch within literally minutes unlike Infinity ward, cough 6 month.

    GET THIS GAME, PLAY THE OUT OF IT, and dont feed,

    I'm from Ukraine, and I do not care whether or not Diretide, I thing in this game is a team game, and because of the lack of Diretide, I'm not going to put this game a bad score. But, I will say only one thing, Valve, do not forget about the players, and they will not forget about you.

    I refuse to believe valve is a bad company because some immature people want to spam websites and other peoples property because they don't get what they want. Please be a little more reasonable who cares about Halloween. Everyone complained about it last year so get over it. This is one of the best games out right now and people are being childish.

The balance of the heroes is great, maybe someone can think that some heroes (like Riki) are OP, but that's not, they think that because they doesn't know how to counter them (how can you fight against an invisible hero without wards or dust?).
    The matchmaking could be better, but it's still great, i was in team with a friend yesterday    This's the best multiplayer game that i've ever seen. The balance of the heroes is great, maybe someone can think that some heroes (like Riki) are OP, but that's not, they think that because they doesn't know how to counter them (how can you fight against an invisible hero without wards or dust?).
    The matchmaking could be better, but it's still great, i was in team with a friend yesterday and we joined in a match where there were 2 teams (one of 2 players and one of 3 players) in each squad, isn't it great?
    Also they're releasing patchs over and over, the game is well maintained.

    deep and addictive game. been hooked since dota 1 came out on wc3. 3000 hours on dota 2 and i'm still learning stuff. community is great after you get out of low mmr. also diretide is a crappy game mode.

    I would have to say that this is one of the greatest games that I have ever play. I have probably spent more money on this game, even though it is free to play and you get no advantage by paying, than I have for any other game that I have ever played, even ones that cost $60 to get at the get go.     Game's visuals are great, gameplay is balanced and stable, strategies are virtually endless and there are always new tricks and tactics to play with or against.     The game is also officially available on LAN which makes it especially interesting for players who cannot benefit the most from online servers (you don't get any Dota2 player experience or cosmetic item drops if you play on LAN).
    The game is free to play, besides for purely cosmetic items which do not affect the gameplay in any way. Dota2 is not a pay-to-win style game.
    Besides Windows, it runs on Linux (Ubuntu) as well. This means that you have to pay NOTHING besides the hardware and bandwidth costs to play this game. That's definitely next level of free-to-play in the gaming industry.
    The cosmetic items are regulated very well for quality control and players can get random cosmetic item drops at the end of matches or each Dota2 level upgrade (which is different from in-game hero level upgrade)
    DotaTV, or the spectator mode, is great. It allows viewing the game from player perspective, event based automated camera, free camera or any caster's camera. DotaTV also supports in game casting with full audio commentary. The tournaments get great coverage and casters are good too. AND you get additional cosmetic item drop chance while spectating a tournament game (which have rather high community market value)
    All in all, a great game. Definitely a 10/10 in MOBA and also in free to play games.    … Expand

    Not really understandable why they did not just take the real Dota as it was improved graphics and wiped out some flaws of the game. Also silly and unexplainable new features like no surrender option which in case u have an afk in ur team makes it impossible to finish the game quickly even though its long lost. Support and cummunity are the worse than any other i have ever seen.

    6.79 patch basically made Dota 2 into LoL 2.0 and no diretide after promising to give it last year. Horrible matchmaking continues to plague the community. While valve is busy making new HATZ for the game. Full hero roaster have not been released even months after the so called "official release". Dota 2 is simply the bastard child of Valve.

    been a fan of the game since warcraft days. Can't fault the game play at all. HOWEVER, it literally disconnects be at least 5 times a GAME. There is NOTHING wrong with my internet nor am i running anything else. i know its free and all but this is TERRIBLE. I've stopped playing looking to start playing on League of Legends.

    what a let down, sort it our valve.

    It is an excellent remake of the original mod D.O.T.A. or Defense of the Ancients, it adds a lot of the old aspects with new ones to make the game play more fair and easier to play for some.

    Although a game that takes a while to understand the mechanics, the way how things are done, and your objective, once you know how to do it, it is probably the most fun game that you will ever play.
    Though if you don't have a tough skin to not receive flame, it will probably not be the game for you.

No server lag here since I have been playing it, cosmetics are nice but wish there was more to purchase than hero sets,courier skins and hud skins.The only complaint I have is the the dota loading emblem, on start up it tends to pixelate very harshly.

    Any low score this game receive if from whiners that want everthing easy this game is not easy and you need practice to master it.

    I like some of the graphics, but other parts are too dark, too murky and make it impossible to see what is going on. Some of the character art is amazing, but some is just bad for no reason. The shop system is too complex and should have been much improved from DOTA.

There is no need to run around and look for the desired artifact you all for sale at a dealer and you can buy all the components for the artifact Some artifacts are only sold in secret stores which have to be reached .

    Garbage game engine results in 9 games without someone being able to load and you reenter the queue
    0 communication and 0 visibility no visible MMR no ladders)
    No region locks.
    You take a perfect game and turn it into worst game ever created.

    Hey guess what? No Diretide 2013!!!!! Woooo great job valve for dropping the ball on this one! Since I need 150 characters, I'll also say that we all wanted Diretide 2013, but valve was irresponsible enough to not even tell the gamers that they weren't doing it this year.

    Awesome game, but as you can see it has the most terrible, pathetic, childish, immature entitled whiny idiots of any gaming community. But during game, this can be solved with a press of a button to mute them. Or team up with friends.

    This game has an insane learning curve. If it's your first time playing an action RTS style game then it will take you ~200 games just to be decent and that's if you watch pro games and actively work on improving your play. Of course you can approach the game casually as well but you will be missing out the insane depth and complexity of the game. This game really shines when two evenly matched teams battle it out for 40-60 minutes where everybody gives it their all and works together as a team. Those matches are rare though and they have nearly become extinct with Valve's changes to matchmaking. The reason I gave this game a 7/10 instead of a 10/10 isn't because of the gameplay itself, it's because of Valve's current direction they are taking the game. The mute system and recent matchmaking issues have negatively impacted my dota experience to the where I no longer play the game. After 3 months of bumbling around Valve finally improved the mute system but now the matchmaking problems have taken center-stage. Maybe once they iron out all the wrinkles I will return to this great action rts.… Expand

    A great game, I have been playing for 7 months now and I'm still not bored of it, A little disappointed that there was no seasonal event this year but that can be excused, I will continue to play this game and I don't think it will get boring any time soon. Thank You Valve for such a great game.

    And this dichotomy is perhaps the best descriptor I can attach to Dota 2. It is frequently a game which occupies two opposite spaces simultaneously. It is the best game. It is also the worst game. No game has ever made me as miserable as Dota 2 has. But no game has made me feel so consistently rewarded for my time, and as consistently, wonderfully connected to the friends I play it with.
