This game is just perfect, mostly for me: a guy who played dota for a long time, this game can be played by anyone, thing is, DotA 2 is not an intuitive game, you have various tutorials however. I know people can be a bit hostile, I am too, that is because in this game, if someone mess it up real hard, then you most likely lose the game.     Valve actually destroyed the soul of DotA 1. I believe that they did it just because of money. Game has been changed literally over night with this new patch, so they can sell new sets for heroes and earn more money. BRING BACK OLD DOTA GAMEPLAY!

    buut... Valve(or volvo) have completely abandoned it to a point where the updates are just hats, i mean come on. If anyone is new to the game, it would be fun, and i suggest trying it out, and playing it if you like it.     Valve is TERRIBLE at communicating with their community and patching anything but cosmetic items into the game. I'd imagine Dota 2 would surpass League of Legends when it comes to the number of people playing it if Valve had more than one person dedicated to updating dota.

    There have been about 120+ days since the last hero, that should tell you something.

    The lack of communication with the community from Valve is an absurd. This is not about Diretide, but the total abandon from the developers, who just work on hats and more hats.

    At the beggining of Dota 2 beta there were frequent updates, and ported heroes, but for the past year the tempo slowed down drastically, even though the game is growing, valves effort goes down.    Rating 0 not because of Dota but mainly of Valves approach to the game, hence the community, i dislike the fact that valve is not communicating in anyway with us, and being blatantly ignorant.

    I don't understand why Valve has not responded to the community fanbase. They have made lots of money from Dota 2, and it's very popular, but they let Halloween come and go without any communication whatsoever about a special event they promised last year.

    Dota 2 is an amazing game, made by an absolutely terrible team. Hasn't been updated in almost a half a year, no community interaction on what's going on, while the only thing that gets added is cash shop items.

    I really couldnt get into this game... I really didnt want to spend 1500 hours (as some reviewers state) playing a game that seems to me to be very repetitive and dull. And unless you have no life at all outside the pc, then you will be simple fodder for the rest of the players. The "tutorial" is absolutely woeful and lacking in explaining the most important overarching aspects of theI really couldnt get into this game... I really didnt want to spend 1500 hours (as some reviewers state) playing a game that seems to me to be very repetitive and dull. And unless you have no life at all outside the pc, then you will be simple fodder for the rest of the players. The "tutorial" is absolutely woeful and lacking in explaining the most important overarching aspects of the game, and don't bother trying to get help from anyone on the servers. They are one of the worst groups of people on the face of this planet. Gameplay is just like playing a dumbed down RTS map... Maybe its one for those that love spending DAYS refining characters and strategies, all so they can get a little bit closer to beating one dull map after another.     Valve has weird fetish of tantalizing its fan-base by being a secretive and exclusive creep.
    It devises ways to make learning the game and following competitive games as hard as possible.
    The devs have put so much effort into creating the game, yet the company is treating Dota 2 like a hated hell-spawn bastard child.

    The development team has absolutely no contact with their players. They completely ignore all complaints, they do not update the community in any way on the status of the game. They just ignore everyone and take as much of your money as possible.

Once it became the top played game on steam they completely abandoned the game. Along with being completely miserable to be around, they frequently never speak the language in the region you're playing and nowhere else is this more apparent when russian is spammed into the chat at all times on European zones from 3 different sources at once.     This Game is pretty fine. I'd give it a 8/10 without any doubt, but there are no updates anymore (except new hats). Though worst thing is: there is no DIRETIDE. How can anyone commit such a crime ?

    Been playing LoL for about 3 years and had to come check out the hype. It isn't there, DOTA 2 will never take the Esports scene like LOL. Go on twitch or azubu right now and LoL will be number 1... 95% of the time the only game that passes it is SC2 and that is ONLY when a LCS isnt goig on. You will never see 250k viewers watching DOTA. As for a Moba it is solid, no better than league, butBeen playing LoL for about 3 years and had to come check out the hype. It isn't there, DOTA 2 will never take the Esports scene like LOL.     Matchmaking really doesn't work.. no events for the community.. 400 mb updates just for new cosmetics items..forced tutorial for new players.. unbalanced heroes.. community just hates everyone, there are no games without people hating each other.. just cool to play with friends..

    I hoped this game would be fun but it isnt, first you need, when lucky, wait for 10 minutes for a match, only to find yourself with people you dont even understand, the community is horrible and it is not beginner- friendly at all

They are one of the worst groups of people on the face of this planet. Gameplay is just like playing a dumbed down RTS map...     Before that, all was bearable until Valvil not released fit and offerings ... I was disappointed in the event, and even more from the offerings. Over 40 + pages of rare eventually got no use to anyone. So let oppressive VALVE on!

    I have been on-and-off with this game ever since its beta status in '11-'12. I remember in my very first game, I picked and played Axe. Because I was brand new to the game, I had to also endure the annoying typings of angry teammates. Just from the flamers it took me months to even bother trying again.    Sluggishly-paced abyss of some of the worst humans you will find in video games.

    I have been on-and-off with this game ever since its beta status in '11-'12. I remember in my very first game, I picked and played Axe. Because I was brand new to the game, I had to also endure the annoying typings of angry teammates. Just from the flamers it took me months to even bother trying again.

    Ever since Valve's takeover of this title, the pattern seems to be letting the game sit stagnant until the pro scene did something to prompt immediate (and often heavy-handed) balance changes. There are an absurdly high number of characters to choose from, and because of that players are often expected to fulfill a "role", or subset of heroes that will work well in a job for each game. Mastery is attainable, but not after thousands of hours grinding and learning as you go. Some of that knowledge is even rendered useless on the occasional patch when heroes, items get reworked or released. In the ideal, games would go for 30-45 minutes before being done but there is no real cap meaning if you stalemate you could see yourself being stuck in this game for a lot longer.

    The punishment systems are a joke as well. Valve seems to think that they can monitor a community without actual moderators. Instead, you have a fully-automatic system in place that punishes people based on how many people rage-reported them. This player could have not done anything legitimately wrong, but would still get punished under the right conditions. Leaving / AFK'ing a match guarantees punishment as well which is harsh for anyone who is liable to be interrupted during the game or doesn't want to waste another 10-20 minutes for the enemy to wipe their team for the 15th time and end it.

    Dota is also one of the only games I know that has a huge amount of fanaticism. Any complaints no matter the legitimacy are often met with posters trying so hard to deflect the blame onto the complainer. Dunning-Kruger has even become a household term for lazy fanboys of this game. The counter-criticisms sometimes go away when issues are proven correct... but there will always be very vocal and swift response to laments like "this game sucks."

    The graphics and the character customization are great points for this game. To be honest, it's hard to collect and enjoy hats in this game because of everything else weighing it down.

    Overall, this is a miserable experience that you should take a pass on. I've had friends try this game and quit within weeks. I've had to take extended breaks, some of which I thought I was quitting the game "for good." This was hard to do at first because of the game's F2P accessibility, but it's gotten a lot easier with glaring problems like unsolved bugs, balance issues, and toxic community remaining prevalent for so long.

    Don't play DotA 2. It looks nice, but it's absolutely unrewarding unless you've already established yourself as a world-class player.    … Expand

    For 2 years of my expirience in dota 2 i can se no changes at all. Look how much heroes per week was relised in 2011 or 2012 and now. The only one thing valve is thinking about is hats and money from marketplace.

    Poor implementation, nasty community and generally rather slow paced. I wanted to try this as i loved DOTA 1 and have played a lot of MOBA since but actually it is palid by comparison to LoL and the main thing is Its Just Not Fun!!. My advice is go with LoL

Then, the nightmare started, they yelled on me, they called me a noob, they insulted, reported, I was in low priority a lot of times but guess whatwhat, I didn’t cry like some of the losers I saw here, I knew I was a noob, sometimes I attacked heros being attacked by creeps at the same time early game (and that caused death), teammated said to me “stay close to towers and you will be fine” I watched playes that owned others and screenshoted their builds to try to understand how it’s done, and I deserve it I felt bad because it was a hard game but when I saw the international that confirmed my desire, I wanted to LEARN that freaking hard and amazing game, the fact that I saw a giant roster of heros, a lot of ways to build a hero, a lot of combinations, wow!, I knew I wasn’t playing a little thing. THAT motivated me to improve.
    Because I have internet, instead (and not knowing at all) I decided to READ heros descriptions and LEARN I watched videos, viewed builds/guides (if you played a MMORPG you know what Im talking) is not a big thing, just a little learning, then, something magic happened, I started to improve, I started to buy courier and the team won, and I FEEL GOOD.
    For the first time in a single game I felt I learnt a very hard thing, to communicate English properly, to teamfight, to PLACE WARDS, but most of all to LEARN.
    A lot of months have passed since the greeviling, and I felt a high income of new players, that was good, new people playing, its ok if you have a nice tutorial, not everybody can have the same passion about hard video games like me to search and learn, so most of the people will get bored and abandon the game before extracting its potential to be super fun, matchmaking take a lot of minutes, sometimes you could had waited like 20 minutes for a single match? Like if you wanted to play a match, you can play one on your mind while you wait. That’s ok, I thought there isn’t a lot of players with my number of wins/skill level (at that point I knew game basics, ward, courier, but not deward, dust/sentry when necessary yet) that allowed me to play something tolerable. The nightmare of being yelled cause was my fault (actually it was) that team lose, but another worse nightmare started now…
    Actually the matchmaking system will make you hate this game, not even be able to want to learn, finding a match takes a lot less, but I get matchmaked with people that doesn’t have 50 wins (and I have around 900) if Valve wanted cooperative learning Valve failed (until now) because we have a bad tutorial, we actually have like 5 stages of tutorial (yea, long and tedious) but still don’t talk about the philosophy of the game! I still don’t see to tell the new people that if you pick a support and you don’t buy wards/courier you will increase to lose since minute 00:00, same for wards, same for sentry/dust. So playing with these people is like talking in another language, they pick venomancer/lina cause are cute and they got bored of play a drow/ursa and you tell them to buy courier, they say “buy it yourself, you are mid, you buy, I don’t have money” then you get muted for being a noob and know how to play the game and telling them that we will lose if you don’t buy anything for the team, only 1 newbie with no desire to learn in team and you are enjoy 30-45 minute sitting back in your sit and get confortable, because that will be a looooong ride to sure lose and wasting your time, why team game if tutorial don’t tell you that you are a mere piece of a cog and not the superman or a nice frager that will save the team being a support and say at the end of the game.

    If you never played MOBA’s or don’t have a real interest to LEARN the game just don’t play it, you will end hating the game at the first week, you need to wait until they fix the matchmaking system and above all, a GOOD and not tedious, long tutorial that encourages people to LEARN, not giving all the food in a dish to their mouths like a freaking baby, I know most of us americlaps, want a easy game, and start fragging right away and feel like a pro at the first week, people, this aint team fortress 2 or counter strike, is a hard ass game and you will suck at start no matter what, you gamer powers that no one cares but you will fail here at start, but the only thing that will not fail is a desire to LEARN with that Valve, with that, you will achieve a masterpiece, until that, this game is in pub matchmaking, just fun when u play with friends (full party or at least 3) for now, is only a troll matchmaking and tutorial.    … Expand

    And this dichotomy is perhaps the best descriptor I can attach to Dota 2. It is frequently a game which occupies two opposite spaces simultaneously. It is the best game. It is also the worst game. No game has ever made me as miserable as Dota 2 has. But no game has made me feel so consistently rewarded for my time, and as consistently, wonderfully connected to the friends I play it with.
