This port is pretty well made and includes most of the creature comfort features of modern shooters, while not straying too far from the original Doom 64 release. The guy who worked on the infamous Doom64EX source port conversion worked on this official rerelease as well and the quality shines through. The guy who worked on the infamous Doom64EX source port conversion worked on this official rerelease as well and the quality shines through. It's a little too easy for keyboard and mouse users and there are small bugs here and there but it's very smooth and runs at modern resolutions up to 144hz refresh rates. If you've never tried Doom 64 I'd highly recommend as it has a different spin on Doom and has interesting types of puzzles along with updated enemies and weapons. Expand

Even if you only will play this game on Bring It On difficultly, it is still a game that I can recommend to many people. It's a criminally underrated classic.

A great game. A great release for the the PC/Steam. The movement of the enemies reminds me of Wolfenstein. I'm glad that the mouse is useable. The weapons look awesome. They did a great job to port the game to the PC from the original Nintendo 64.

DOOM 64 does have its shortcomings - most notably, unskippable logos, a few less-than-fair traps, and tanky enemies dragging things on in higher skill levels. However, despite standing out, those flaws are undermined by everything else. The creepy atmosphere provides strong immersion, the level designs are well-structured and rewarding, and the action remains satisfying. This is a unique take on DOOM, and it works astonishingly well.

Aside from higher resolution support and a modern savegame feature, this is more or less the original Doom 64 experience from 1997. Which is fine, since the game holds up pretty well. Despite some confusing level design, Doom 64 still offers tons of fun for those craving a retro FPS in the tradition of the first two Doom games

DOOM 64 is considered a cult classic, meaning that the people who love it, really love it. The one writing this doesn't though. It is way too slow, tries to have a horror atmosphere (and almost succeeds), although it is in no way a horror game, and, most importantly, the level design is mediocre at best, as it's more about flipping switches than killing demons. Those who loved the original will be glad to know that this is a very good port, with FHD resolution and an improved frame-rate - just don't expect any new content.
