    The first 2-3 hours and my first playthrough was just a snoozefest. The twists of the game are cool, though, but I ended up just watching a YouTube spoiler because the "game" portion is just not fun. In my first playthrough, I had 0 fun, not a single second.     Pour ceux qui découvrent le jeu aujourd'hui en connaissant ce qu'il se passe c'est beaucoup moins bien mais pour l'avoir découvert à sa sortie j'ai été choqué de tout ce que le jeu était en réalité et c'est pour ça qu'encore aujourd'hui c'est un de mes jeux préférés.

    Un gran juego, teniendo en cuenta que es una novela visual, es un juego que tiene momentos impactantes, pero su gameplay se basa en leer, puede llegar a aburrir, pero sus momentos impactantes, final y el juego que se le da a los archivos del PC, suben la nota considerablemente. Al ser gratis y pesar poco, está 100% recomendado, pero se requiere paciencia

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a masterpiece. Of course, Act 1 is pretty slow and boring, but that has a reason. The reason is that you should forget the warnings. You're supposed to forget about the psychological horror disclaimer and tags. You should start to like the characters and to just love the game. That's why Sayuri's death also hits so hard. It was unexpected. The situation was going well. But then something like that happens. You suddenly remember about the disclaimer, about Monika saying "You kinda left her hanging this morning" before you find her hanging herself. The clues were so obvious that you didn't even notice. Only after finishing the game and breaking your head about what the fu** just happened will let you remember it. Even the easter eggs, such as the character files and the lore of the game is just so well done. I can't believe how good this game is. Even those, who don't like anime that much, should play this game. It's worth it. And personally, it even changed a lot of stuff in my mind. Especially how I think about others. And I tend to think a bit deeper into people's personality.… Expand

    Often compared to Undertale it is,IMHO,not at its level.I started playing this game in a skeptical way,i was prepared to play a **** dat-sim game.This game surprised me,it's a really good game,with a good plot twist.I was really shocked after finishing it.Definitely a game to play.

Желаемого эффекта, мне кажется, можно было добиться только, если бы главный прикол сюжета, раскрылся неожиданно. А так он читался, благодаря множеству отсылок, оставленных автором по ходу.     At first sight, Doki Doki Literature Club! appears to be a typical romantic visual novel. As the game goes on, many of the clichés and tropes are explained through dark and intimate themes which develop into 4th wall breaking mechanics that make you feel more personally connected with the characters.

I love how it subverts your expectations by being a psychological horror instead of a cute anime dating simulator. I remember watching a playthrough of it in school (although I shouldn't have) in 9th grace by a YouTuber named Joshiball since my friends were talking about it and it was interesting to me. Seeing Sayori's death scared the living crap out of me as a 15-year-old struggling with OCD. I mean that messed with me for the rest of the day when I first saw it. I hated this game for months afterwards. Eventually I exposed myself to the image of Sayori hanging more and more, and now it doesn't bug me so much. As a result of this game, I now really like horror as a genre, whereas before I was always scared of it. The best thing about it is how it portrays mental illnesses and gives warning signs for them. I replayed it recently and unfortunately it wasn't scary to me at that point, most likely because I already knew everything that was going to happen. In addition, it takes quite a bit for it to get going in the first act. Despite its flaws, I love this game, as it has helped shape me into the person I am today.… Expand

    Doki Doki is one of the most unpredictable game that i ever seen, on of the few games that i feel bad
    for what appears on my screen, capable of giving me grief and sorrow, the final is magnific, but only problem is that it takes too long for the scenario to change in the game.

For the roles in this game, they are not independent individuals but a whole with many possibilities. The chosen you make (the role you prefer) can be reflected by others.     Another point is its interaction. There is a whole part that the player can have a talk with one the of roles. (really talk, not the script)
    I always think that galgames are usually laugh, a bit sad and laugh. But this work changed my mind (maybe just I do not play much, and I felt a bit pain when I finished the first chapter actually).
    For its background, the poets (I think they are) have strong personal emotions. This makes this game more realistic. Under these circumstances, these four roles get together created this complex and defective home called “literature”. That is why they need an “outsider” and why they need a “player”.

    A mastapeece. I literally have not played this game and it is phenomenal. Within such a short span, you're sucked into the game and everything feels so surreal. Despite the game only being a couple of hours, you really do feel for the characters and they all feel like actual human beings. The writing is amazing, no matter what people might say. I will admit, the first half of the game is quite boring. Very simple, and standard VN stuff. But the reason that's so is because it really makes the second half of it all that much better.

    The visuals are also quite nice, being in the normal anime style and all, and also has some good detail and design to it as well. The backgrounds are also very well drawn. The OST is very simple, yet really leaves a lasting impact on you once you finish the game. The characters, in tandem with the writing are phenomenal also. It's essentially the same thing as the story. On the surface, you have some really standard stuff, you have the quirky, happy childhood friend who introduces you to the girls, you have the big **** girl in the form of a dandere, you have the cute and tiny tsundere, and you have the popular, pretty girl. Really normal stuff, but again, once you delve in deeper you really do feel for them. They have all these characteristics that make them feel truly like humans, really giving you a unique, and heartbreaking feel to it. If you do end up getting to the ending, you feel absolutely heartbroken man. It really breaks you inside, and leaves a lasting impression on you; something not a single game has done to me prior to watching the game.

    The game isn't amazing because of these amazing, incredibly fun gameplay aspects, but rather, because of the great writing, and ability to really make you feel something after finishing it. That, to me, is something simply irreplaceable, and despite the fact that I still haven't played it, this game will always have a special place in my heart. Mastapeece.    … Expand

    Through the paranormal and forth wall breaking aspects of DDLC I believe lies a hard hitting commentary on mental health and social dynamics among young people. If you are interested in horror or psychology at all I recommend this game heavily.

    Прошел я эту визуальную новеллу и получил тильт и дипрессию. Жаль что в игре официально отсутствует руссификатор но спасибо мододелам что сделали. В стиме спокойно можно найти и установить. Короче хотите поиграть в визуальный хоррор тогда вам рекомендую. Есть красивые вайфу на вкус и цвет большинству зайдет. Много модов от фанатов и фан сообщество живо и здорово.

I like the basic idea: an innocent visual novel suddenly turning into a bizarre horror. After the turning point unexpected and wicked things happen. Some of those were shocking and cool, but some of those just felt weird. I have to admit I was disappointed that the game wanted me to believe that choices matter but it was only an illusion.… Expand

    When I first saw this game on Steam, I genuinely though the "Psychological Horror" tag was just people abusing the system. Given the game's positive reception, its catchy cover and popularity, I    This is one of those games that you should experience without reading a review for it. So, if you haven't played it yet, please go ahead and do so, taking the game's warning seriously of course.

    When I first saw this game on Steam, I genuinely though the "Psychological Horror" tag was just people abusing the system. Given the game's positive reception, its catchy cover and popularity, I decided to give it a go. After reading the reviews and being 2 hours in, I actually feared what might come next. I've never been so apprehensive about finishing a game due to its shocking nature. And sure enough, this game truly is disturbing, even if you prepare yourself for the worst. But it's impossible to keep the game's depth a secret when that makes up 90% of the appeal. So why am I giving this a positive review?

    Well, the game breaks the fourth wall like no other. I encourage you to play this game in windowed mode and after about 2 hours in, open your steamappscommonDoki Doki Literature Clubcharacters directory. These are real files with a different extension (one is a PNG, another is Base64 encoded message etc.).The game itself, written in Python2, actually changes the files (and not just those in that folder) as you play, which makes it feel truly real.

    But that's just some gimmick, right? Anyone could do that, it'sn ot the most creative idea. So, again, why am I giving this game a positive review? Especially after the ending it gave me. I assure I was most certainly NOT impressed. It left me more upset with the game and the writers' decision to end it like that, so much so that the shock factor was outweighed by my dismay of how it all happened. But you realise that's not all this game has to give.

    What truly sets DDLC apart is that it serves a much deeper purpose than your ordinary game. As a visual novel, this genre has very limited interactivity, and despite my inexperience with VNs, I've always wondered what the purpose of them is compared to an eBook. Yet Doki Doki Literature Club makes the best possible use of the medium. Simply put, it is a tool to raise awareness of mental health issues. It truly creates a sense of empathy that cannot be expressed in any other medium. As you "read" through DDLC, you begin to get a sense of how truly horrible loneliness and depression must be. You start to feel bad yourself. Then you wonder how it must feel like to live with this. Even if you can relate to some of the themes explored in DDLC, you begin to realise just how deep they can go. It's frightening, concerning, yet what makes it so impactful is that this is not a joke. Yes, it is taken to the extreme. But it's absolutely real. These things do happen, and even if extreme cases are not so common, even milder issues must be... just awful.

    So, despite the sadness, this game serves not only as an educational tool but also an inspiration. An inspiration to care more about those around you, and yourself of course, if you can relate to any of the characters. It makes you want to hug not only your friends and relatives but even strangers. It's one of those experiences that will stay with you. Depending on your personality, it may be haunting and you'll regret having beared witness to such tragedies. But to others, it may be a valuable learning experience    … Expand

    This game for me defies easy definition without giving anything away, but it is great, and disturbing at the same time. If you're easily prone to panic attacks it can easily throw you into one. It did for me!

По содержанию же, это, пожалуй, разговор о любви и о том, что любовью не является. Неумение отличить любовь от привязанности или дружбы, а то и пагубной зависимости; невозможность пересилить себя, чтобы отпустить того, кого ты любишь. Мне выпала концовка, в которой Моника удаляет всю игру, по сути, сознаваясь в том, что она не любит героя (меня), ведь готова уничтожить всё, даже себя, чтобы не чувствовать страдание. Это вызывает одновременно и сочувствие и неприязнь, но... Здесь уж вступают в силу философичные рассуждения: что такое любовь, как пережить пик страдания - уничтожить всё? Стоит ещё порассуждать о том, что игра-то знает, что она игра, но это всё равно, как всегда, рассуждение о человеке. И конец - он как приговор: мы, люди, не умеем любить, не вторгаясь в автономию другого человека, руководствуясь при этом политикой физического и эмоционального захвата; мы скорее всё уничтожим, весь мир, чтобы избежать собственного страдания, была бы только возможность.
    Ладно уж, ладно. Есть ещё о чём поговорить, но основное я сказал. Упомяну ещё интересную фишку, которую я раньше никогда не встречал - она меня очень-очень удивила: чтобы продвигаться дальше по сюжету, нужно будет покопаться в папке с файлами игры. Пускай этому уделяешь всего с минуту, но этот выход за рамки - в папку с файлами - произвёл на меня впечатление.

When I first played it, I thought the subject or category of this game was wrong. However, I was very impressed by the measures he took to prevent problems that may occur during the game. It was nice that we noticed the big mistake we made and dealt with as the game progressed so well with the comic and anime characters. But the feelings and thoughts of the characters often shuddered me. I think it is a game that takes a short time to play, but it affects the person who plays in a state of loyalty to the characters.     This game touches on a lot of issues that I find very important to make media about in a very interesting and unique way. It also has a great OST, and there's little secrets hidden everywhere that add to the main theme of the game. VERY worthy of it's praise.

Po przejściu tej gry czuje się emocjoalnie związanym z każdą bohaterką. Piękność tej gry nie leży w fabule, BA nie leży nawet w straszności tej gry. Piękność tej gry leży w systemach i pomysłach. Świetny jest np. pomysł z plikami, pomysł z tym że gra DOSŁOWNIE się rozpada od wewnątrz ( Tzn.Pliki podczas drugiego aktu, gdzie wszystko oficjalnie się pierniczy wyskakują glicze i gra realnie psuje i usuwa pliki tej gry) I do tego ta fabuła ukryta pod dekodowaniem, szyfrowaniem i buszowaniem po plikach. Wydaje mi się że człowiek siadający do tej gry wiedząc że jest horrorem psychologicznym nie ma takiego wrażenia po przejściu gra jak ja. I ta muzyka końcowa... Coś pięknieo.     This is my favourite game of all time I am not joking when I say that, the game starts as a normal anime, highschool roleplay, life simulator kind of game with a literature club and disguises itself as that for one whole hour of gameplay and then.. its turn into something much more sinister.

    Characters:

    Yuri is edgy, dark and eerie.
    Sayori is funny, kind and also quite self-aware.
    Natsuki is a spoiled brat.
    Monika is successful and smart.

    Everything is going well, but Sayori hangs herself and then all your save files get wiped you restart and the game is broken, Yuri stabs herself and it turns out this whole time Monika deleted everyone from the files, which is why they died. You delete Monika and the game ends    … Expand

It starts out with a great twist and the game changes to a more surreal experience that wants to screw with the player while also providing unique commentary and satire on the romance/dating simulator genre as a whole. The first half needs to be that bad so the second one can be as impactful as it and that ending is something special (the need to delete Monika's character from the game files, another great aspect of this game).… Expand

While it seems cute and happy and an average dating simulator, it takes a dark turn with an amazing twist that was hinted from the first act with Monika saying to remember to save the game implying that she knows its all a game. Team Salvato wasn't afraid to go to the extent of having multiple characters kill themselves and i love it. The soundtrack is lovely and the story is rich. Monika adds new files in the game files throughout and also deletes the character files when she makes them die. Act 3 and 4 are get intense and while you have to delete her file she still protects you to the end with Monika singing a beautiful in the credits and the images being removed to represent how Monika is deleting the past because she thinks it will be better for you.… Expand

The reason why this game is so unsettling and depressing if not because of the imagery and gore, but ultimately the fact that these unfortunate things happen to so many people around the world on a daily basis and we hardly even realize it, these situations are troubling to witness, as at some point in our lives we may feel these exact same emotions, we might live through the exact things same as these characters at some point in our lives. The player character, in this case, can either be a protagonist who attempts to free these characters from the existential hell that is the literature club, OR an antagonist who enjoys watching the psychological suffering of these characters.     Doki Doki Literature Club is of the type of games i usually don't play on PC, But this one was the exception. And it did not disappoint. The Graphics is on par with what this game seems to be at the surface. But just as you should not judge a book by its cover, you should not judge this game by what it seems like at first. It will take that wrong turn multiple times, and show you some of the darker aspects of human mental states.
    The narrative plays a big part in this game and it was done flawlessly.
    The plot will make you disturbed at some moments and sad at other turns, or it will simply mess with your mental state. The Technical part of the game is impressive, how the game deletes files and keeps running seemingly all bugged. Even more impressive on steam, as the script is kinda doing what malware would do. I will end this by saying this. Listen to the warning the game gives you before you start a new game, it might be beneficial to your mental health.    … Expand

From the first part to the ending, the game looks so beautiful. It's amazing how a game this good is free on steam. Team Salvato put a lot of effort into this game and i hope the next game will be just as good. Honestly, this is the best game I ever played. It's really sad at the ending too... I feel like i lost someone special to me... Team Salvato, you did a great job at the game, please keep it up.

That's a really interesting game, at the beginning of the it's really happy and don't seems to be a psychological horror game, seems to be a very cool Visual novel with a very cool OST. But the things is going to be weird when Sayori committed suicide. After that the things is going to be very, very weird, after that we discovered that Monika was manipulating everybody just to be with you in the end, and that's the main plot, Monika just wanted to be with you. After that you can delete her file and she will try to repair the game without her but we discover that Sayori want the same thing, so Monika come back, stop Sayori and the game end.

    For me, this game is a masterpiece, I'm just in love with this OST and the characters because, for me, this is not just a game, this game bring me a lot of memories and emotions that is hard to explain, I simply don't know how some pleoples can say this game is bad and stuff, This game is amazing and i can't describe in word how i love this game, For me, this game shoud be a 10/10.    … Expand

    One of the best games I have played. Technically, the game is rather weak, but its climate and emotions it evokes are arguments for me why I rate the game at 10/10. The rating of this game is quite subjective because it can be something different for everyone. For example, at the end of the game I cried, but I saw someone laugh at the end.
    If you plan to play this game, watch out for    One of the best games I have played. Technically, the game is rather weak, but its climate and emotions it evokes are arguments for me why I rate the game at 10/10. The rating of this game is quite subjective because it can be something different for everyone. For example, at the end of the game I cried, but I saw someone laugh at the end.
    If you plan to play this game, watch out for spoilers, because they are on almost every game graphic. Simply, if you want to play, download the game and play without prior inspection.

    Believe me or not, but this is my favorite of all time (sr Nier and Life is Strange). It gave me a week long depression.

    Doki Doki Literature Club is a mind boggling and hard hitting horror game that takes tried and tested formulas of both visual novels and dating sims and turns them on their heads. The themes and story pack a punch, and stayed with me long after I had finished playing. It may require commitment from some to get through but the reward for those who stick it is more than worth it

    A horror game disguised as a dating sim. First couple of hours are boring and written poorly to the degree of being hard to digest for me, then things get better, but the story is still shallow and the substance plays second fiddle to the form. [01/2018, p.61]
