A clever lampoon of what certain games have become: D'ya wanna use a car that doesn't suck? Pay for teh DLC. D'ya wanna enlarge your map? Pay for teh DLC. D'ya wanna know how the story REALLY ends? Pay for teh DLC. In DLC Quest you'll have to unlock DLCs even for getting the ability of jumping. Brilliant.

Bit of a simple easy game, it's interesting but it's never different. Once you've beaten it once, there's no reason to try again or ever play it again. So an hour of gameplay and it's all over (unless you're an achievement hunter, then a few hours of gameplay).

Ah, dlc quest, when you start playing this game you cant stop, yeah you gotta "buy" dlc that allows you to use game menu! It is a fun game but i think it can be expanded!

Çok eğlenceli ve keyifli bir oyun. Sıkıldığın bir zaman girip, oyunu bitirebilirsin. Gayet güzel eğlendirir ve kahkahalarla vakit geçirmeni sağlar.

DLC Quest is a small indie game filled with humor and satire that will make most people laugh. That being said, it doesn't take much to fill this game, because it's disappointingly short. This game only costs a mere 80 Microsoft points so one cant really expect much from this game. What you get is basically satire of DLC. The game play consists of collecting coins and buying DLC which consists of basic features such as jumping or the ending. Aside from the humor the game suffers from being VERY short. it can be beaten in around 5 minutes and has no replay value. DLC's biggest problem is that it delivers its punchline too early: the description of the game in steam already spoils the joke of having to buy pause screens, jumping etc. After that, the gameplay just isn't that enjoyable. If the game would emphasise and compliment the elements of for example, having to buy a DLC that requires jumping, this would easily be a much better game. Instead its design doesn't really give you a chance to have a laugh at only being able to go in one direction as you're unable to jump as you are granted the ability within the first fifteen seconds of gameplay.

Complaining about DLC's gameplay issues could be missing the point, though. The game throws great jokes about how modern games are designed, and for the >hour of entertainment it provides you'll be blowing air out of your nose with increased velocity.

DLC Quest offers good laughs, but on my opinion, with slightly better gameplay design the joke would run more fluently and the game would be more worthy of the 3€ price tag.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I bought this game very cheaply and I'm glad I did as well, it is rather enjoyable for a while and it's supposed to take the mickey out of DLC and Free-to-play games that require you to pay up to win, and it does that very well.

Although the world is small and it is a very basic game, I still had great fun with this, and the humor is very well pulled off, I don't normally laugh at the jokes in a game but this really made me chuckle.

However, no review is complete without criticism and I do have a couple of complaints on this game, for one, because of the Pause Menu DLC that you have to buy to get the "These used to come standard" achievement I couldn't pause the game, I realize that this game is trying to make DLC look extreme but I just cannot get over that. Another thing are the controls in the game that are unchangeable, which is a real blow to the game.

But other than those things I had fun with this game and I'd totally recommend it to anyone with a Steam account and a couple of quid.

A game that parodies the gaming industry. DLC Quest is a very simple 2D platformer at its core whose main premise is to regularly deliver humour to the players in a form of various video game memes and parodies of questionable business practices of gaming corporations.

The game consists of a number of small locations which can only be reached once the player has collected a certain number of coins and then used those to purchase a fake DLC from the in-game shopkeeper. These fake in-game DLCs spoof the way many DLCs are done in the real world, such as offering access to certain areas, adding irrelevant content, and even allowing the player to use some of the core functions such as jumping and pausing the game.

The jokes in the game have given me plenty of laughs during the course of my playthrough, but the platforming itself is rather basic and can get kind of repetitive after a while. Most of the game simply requires the player to collect coins in various areas, some of which are harder to access than others, but apart from spikes in certain places, there aren’t really any enemies in the game that can hurt you.

The whole game consists of two story ‘campaigns’ and it took me about 2 hours to complete both (about 50 minutes on the first and the rest of the time on the second), so it is a very short game, but at the same time it hardly costs anything. I don’t really see it being very replayable and overall it’s probably the kind of game that’s more fun play in a group of friends where one plays and everyone else watches, since its key strength are the countless jokes and not really the gameplay itself.

My score for DLC Quest might not be overly high, but it’s not because I didn’t enjoy it. I did have a fair bit of fun going through it. I just wish there was more to it. It’s too simple and too short at the moment.

Just the mere title of this game called by attention, it is an indie 2D 16-bit platformer that mocks the industry's DLC orientation by exaggerating it even more. The mechanics are extremely simple and are not anything that will make you be astonished, however it is still fun to play it. The soundtrack does not stand out at all which is disappointing for a 16-bit game, but that can be ignored. What gives this game points is the awesome humour that mocks videogame elements, which I will not spoil for you if you decide to buy it. The problem with this game is that it is extremely short, 30 minutes is probably what you will get out of it and maybe 45 if you are a completionist, the thing is that it has absolutely no replay value, so it is just there after you complete it, so unless you have some money to throw away I cannot recommend it just yet. Add some in-jokes and references to popular game franchises, and you've got a game that makes it impossible not to laugh. It's also only 3 bucks so if you're an avid gamer that keeps up with what's going on in the industry, it's worth it for the LOLs. Expand

One of the funniest games i play recently.
If you think the actual DLC-madness is ridiculous, and doesn't understand people who buy them, you'll find some funny too. But if you are a DLC-maniac, don't buy that game, you can be angry about the jokes. :D

Some people tell that game is too short. It takes me an hour to "beat" it unless 2 achievements. Actually is not about beating, cause there's no real difficult to finish him. But i think that kind of game can't be long, it'll starting to be boring after 2hs or so.

That's a critic to the gaming industry, and i have to say that's clever and truth. I'll play it again, no doubts, to grab all achievements and to making funny screenshots.

The game is cheap, and is funny, but has limited appeal and is too easy. The game doesn't really poke fun at DLC and it feels more like a chore having to head back to the merchant to get new DLC. It is only 3 bucks though, so for a cheap, 40 minute game, you get your money worth.

While it's definitely not a 10 on the scale, it is a good overall game. DLC Quest is a joke on the industries use (overuse) of DLC. The gameplay isn't anything special or something you haven't seen before, but the way they present it is fresh and funny. At such a cheap price DLC Quest is a quality platformer that pokes fun at the rising, and ridiculous DLC quota.

Given that this game was a dollar and that it is clearly satire, it was super worth the money. It's super short, not very deep, but it does a great job making fun of the DLC or upgrade mechanics in games.

At the very least, you'll get your money's worth, which often cannot be said for the many games DLC Quest owes its creation to.
