I haven't been this engaged by or engrossed in a game in a very very long time. Truly a fantastic release, and hopefully the first of many. The only thing that drops my score from a perfect 10 are technical issues. Save often, it's not the most stable game currently, and if you're playing co-op you can expect desync and disconnection issues fairly often. These issues are a minor annoyance though, and do nothing to diminish the awesome time that this game provides.

    Unreal.

I couldn't imagine that a game like this would be made and released in the year 2014. Larian knocked it out of the park on every level AND gave us a level editor, so we can start making our own content.

Best cRPG in a decade. Nothing even comes close.

This game is on the top 10 list of my 30+ years of gaming. The intense care and attention to every detail, the level of freedom, the sheer amount of options you have to solve quests is mesmerizing. My only hope is that it will not finish quickly and there will be a lot of DLCs and mods. My hat is off to Larian Studios

I have not played an RPG this interesting . People say it is like Ultima VII. I wouldn't know, have never played any games in the Ultima series. It is the kind of game that gets me excited to explore, to see what is just around the corner. And, even in the starting zone, it manages to not disappoint. There is always something interesting to do, to see.

Oh, you can talk to animals. And like i always suspected cats are well spoken and dogs are lovable retards. 10/10. Have never played anything like it, and i can't get it out of my head. 10/10.

Also, there are so many average or even mediocre RPGs released in the recent years, so this game just shine like a diamond in a sea of sand.

Although sticking to the formulas of old classic RPGs, let alone the plague of technical issues and quest related bugs, this rushed game still need more polishing before it can be a great game with good experience to most players.

Here are the areas that need further polishing:
    - rock, paper, scissors argument system is just plain boring, it never comes close to the epic conversation of Bahdur's Gate
    - the self-talking mechanism between the main characters is just odd, it should have another ways to develop characters' social skill
    - there should be a general direction hint of what players should go, just like Divinity 2, so players will not just move to areas they are not supposed to go yet
    - traveling and picking up items are just chore, as it takes too many time and clicks
    - no balance of combat difficulty and the use of enviornment, tacticial variety should be allowed for player to pick from, but not a death is guaranteed if not following particular direction
    - equipment and character models should have a greater diversity
    - imbalance between quest types, there are just too many puzzle solving quests, and if not followed in particular orders, player will just get stuck
    - there are still improvement areas for how those puzzles are presented and solved
    - combat accuracy is too unreliable, resulting in just a save or load attempts, since enemies are generally overpowered
    - there should be more adjustment available for font size and camera angles

Overall, it can be a great game just like Divinity 2 in the past, once all the issues are sorted out, but again it may take around 2 years again.

Even extremely average RPG's such as DA:O were more to my taste. I regret buying this game and should have waited for Torment and Pillars of Eternity to be released. The character creation is completely lack luster with a one size fits all body type for each of the character, I hope to hell that this is just because it is in early access, the skills are also lacking not including basic skill choices such as dual wielding. The story is average at best although it is one of the stronger points of the game. There are some innovative features for this genre such as combining different elements much like in games like Magika. All in all I wouldn't buy this game yet. Expand

Great interactive world with an internal logic that lets you try all sorts of approaches to problems. Really really steep learning curve. Seriously you will likely scrap your initial party and restart after playing a couple hours. Read some online hints to avoid it. If you're a hardcore player you'll probably love it. If you're used to more forgiving modern RPGs you're in for some frustration.

The only unwieldy part seems to be the crafting system, which puts you into the role of Macgyver trying to figure out what you can combine with what, and if you need an anvil for this, or if you skill is high enough for that.

In short the game looks great, the fights challenging, the quests diverse, and the storyline engaging. This game will be a breath of fresh air for many if not all who play it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Divinity: Original Sin reminds me of why I love games. For over twenty years I have been a passionate gamer, and Like many adult gamers, I often fondly look back at games and the experiences that will stick with me for life. The games I look back with on with nostalgia aren't perfect, and neither is Divinity: Original Sin, but that's not what makes gaming great. If you are a gamer you will understand that unexplainable feeling of excitement and charm that truly makes the game perfect in your eyes. This is what Divinity: Original Sin is to me.

    The Good:
    - Beautiful World
    - Tons of exploration
    - Great story (often comical)
    - Amazing combat (I hated turn based combat before this game, so don't let that stop you)
    - Large amount of content (I spent 30 hours on the first section of the game)
    - Obviously a labor of love for Larian (A game for gamers by gamers)

    The Bad
    - Very rare stability issues
    - muddy textures up close
    - minor bugs
    - Strange difficulty spikes

It should be said that this is not the casual gamers RPG. Divinity: Original Sin can be very challenging at times, especially on harder difficulties. Encounters may require multiple attempts and careful planning to overcome. The same can be said with the many environmental puzzles/secrets in the world. Finally, there is no quest guidance, you explore, discover, and complete without any "go here to complete quest" arrows. the difficulty and lack of hand holding is refreshing, and adds to the games value. Like I said before, Divinity: Original sin is not a perfect game, but it is truly rare gaming experience that should be experienced by every RPG fan out there.

I gotta say, I am so glad I was a backer of this game. Originally I was hesitant and a little apprehensive at backing a Kickstarter game because it was my first and I had read about other projects that failed and people lost their money. But considering how much I enjoyed the original, and a few of their subsequent games. I was willing to take a chance. And I'm glad I did.

For anyone who longs for the days of the Ultima series, or the Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale (Planescape too) series of Isometric PC games, this is it. Larian has crafted a true successor to those games. Since it's release, I have been playing it almost constantly (all through 4th of July weekend). It has depth and character and is a joy to play. It's challenging too. Even on the normal level, you'll be challenged by the enemies and bosses. Learning which Player Character types do what and using their skills to the fullest is a must. Likewise, learning which enemies do what and what their skills are are also a must.

The graphics are beautiful (running this on highest settings) and detailed. The game (so far) runs smooth and I have had no crashes. Though I have had the occasional (not game breaking) bug (one bug was sometimes not costing anything to repair gear at a vendor), so far and overall, the game is pretty polished. I will say the limited camera rotation frustrated me to no end. There is an option for full 360 degree rotation, but enabling it comes with a warning that the single player campaign was not designed for it and could cause graphical glitches (or something to that affect). I took a chance and enabled it and I'm glad I did. I have yet to run into any noticeable graphical issues. Having the full camera rotation is so much nicer. Include the Co-op and toolkit and you have a game well worth the Steam price. For those of us who backed it at the lower tiers, we made out like bandits. :D

I really can't recommend this game enough. It brought back fond memories of those early RPGs and I found myself lost in the game and losing track of time once again, something I have't done playing a game in a long time.

It draws heavily from old masterpieces like Ultima or the Baldur's Gate serie, giving the player a world to explore and enjoy. It feels like a real, living world and there are a lot of quests and stories all around, dozens of things to do, from crafting to fighting to investigating a murder and so on, all interspersed with excellent dialogues and a nice enough backstory: you could spend hours just exploring and talking to NPCs and you'll always want more.
It's a party based RPG, you'll make two characters - and can recruit two more or play coop with a friend - and they could have different personalities based on your liking, so they can end up bickering and bantering all throughout the game.
The combat is awesome, very tactic, hard but not frustrating with a clever use of magic combinations which can turn the tide of a difficult fight.
The classes are very customizable, you can decide to take every single skill or abilty with any character, leading to a very open game experience.
Technically, it's good but not something jaw-dropping. The engine is light and runs well even on old computers, the graphics are good, clean and easy readable and the magic effects are appropriate but not too uselessly flashy so you rarely get confused in the action. The music is also good and it never gets annoying.

    The flaws:
I really feel the need for a "undo" button, even if there's the problem that it could be abused (but you can also abuse save/load and the fleeing mechanic, so...). Too often I click on an enemy and get a misclick, moving my character where I don't want him to go. Also, finding the right spot for backstabbing is a tremendous pain.
Another useful thing would have been more keybinds... the classic shift+1,+2,+3 for the quickbars and one for trading with the npcs... I would have mapped many more things.
I don't really like the random loot. It's silly in a game with predefined encounters and no respawning enemies.
Sometimes it's very slow. The wait times on save/quicksave/load/transition van be insanely long.
Also I personally detest the rock/paper/scissor... it's a terrible way to handle the arguments and kills immersion (also it always looks like the PC is cheating which - true or false - it's annoying).
And, more than everything, a full world like in the Ultima games would have been fantastic, instead of a series of maps like it is.

But those are just minor flaws, and all in all, it's undoubtedly one of the best RPGs of the last years: it's an awesome game that is making hard to turn off my PC.

I wont **** and moan on the state of gaming right now, but I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling like I am being used, patronized, and financially milked by the empty, shallow cookie-cutter games we are offered these days.
As far as my review of the game goes I really only have good things to say. Its an incredibly engrossing world, with interesting stories and interesting characters, that keeps you wanting to play; NOT through cheap tactics like we see in Diablo clones, MMO's, or other gear-treadmill/unlocks type shenanigans, but because of genuine desire.
I know, I know, how can I not find anything wrong? That's impossible right? Wrong. Honestly, Ive not experienced any bugs or crashes of any sort in the short 40 hours I have spent in-game so far. The game was ready to come out of Early Access. (FYI the devs have not stopped to rest and have been hot on the case post release, with updates and fixes).
Who knows, maybe I'm unable to be critical because I've been totally enchanted by it all. Jumping from a solo play-thru to a co-op play-thru (on 2 separate profiles, and I've nowhere near finished the game on either) I am pleased with both, and we only have more to look forward to in the form of developer content and player created mods.
I highly recommend Divinity: Original Sin to lovers of authentic cRPG's with intelligent design, or if you just fancy trying something new to you, this is a great place to start!

It's a conscious decision on Larian's part to resurrect tried-and-true threads that run deep into the bones of the CRPG genre. It's a culmination of those efforts and an unapologetic celebration of battle-tested concepts backed by solid co-op. Most of all, it comes together as a grand adventure that hearkens back to sleepless nights buoyed by the roll of a die and a pad of grid paper shared between fellow dungeon crawlers.

As much as I loved the bulk of the game, by the end I was burning out, and burning out fast. Despite that, I'm glad that some studios are still willing to show an almost insane level of ambition in realizing the games they want to make without compromise, even if it does lead to a few dire moments here and there.
